The job was not done.
Description of Work: I made an appointment with Michael Bonsby to check and fix our Air conditioner yesterday, so I take one day leave to wait for the technician to come to our house. I received a message from Michael Bonsby at 12 pm said that a technician was on the way, but I didn't see anyone show up until 2 pm, so I call the company phone number (301) 990-7970, they told me they would contact their technician and let the technician call me. No technician contacted me. So I called the company phone number every hour and the answer was always that the technician will call me and they will come to my house yesterday. Obviously, no one contacted me and no one came to my house. I wasted my whole day and nothing happened. I would choose a zero-star if there is a zero-star option for this review.

Description of Work: This vendor installed a new thermostat for our gas-fired furnace on an emergency basis, and then replaced it with another that we bought online (a Lux 7-day programmable, TX9600TSa) when we were not pleased with their choice. The only thermostat they carried was a Honeywell unit without temperature cut-back capability at night. The technician told us s fixed temperature thermostat would save money, which is wrong. Among others, Consumer Reports advises that temperature cut-back at night saves money. | |While they are a little weak on heat science, these people are good technicians. The man who served us took the trouble to explain exactly how he was installing the Lux thermostat (in case we wanted to change it ourselves) and pointed out after inspecting the furnace that we had let the contact medium for the furnace humidifier get really, really cruddy. It works well after I bought new contact media! | |This is now our go-to vendor for heating and air conditioning issues. (They installed a new Mitsubishi heat-pump air-conditioning system in our home three years ago)

Description of Work: They did a heat pump in a rental with a dual thermostat to switch to propane. They did a propane furnace in another rental. My brother-in-law, my brother, my sister and my niece all quoted Bonsby and all went with Bonsby. All of them saved money. These folks are 100% on the level - good value, good work, exactly on time and good ethics. I think they should buy me a case of beer for all my referrals;>}

They worked five days on the installation. The technicians always were on time, starting each day around 8.30 am. They were very clean and didn't leave a mess during the whole week. They took time to explain the system. I strongly recommend Bonsby. I would use them any time again.
Description of Work: We decided to get an AC-system this year for our 1200 sqf, semi-detached, three-story house in DC (built 1935) After intensive research we decided to go for the Mitsubishi Mr. Slim system http://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/en/consumer. Compared to a central AC this system is energy efficient, not noisy at all, almost not invasive as you do not need duct work/dry walling, can do both cooling and heating, and the best, each story of our house can be cooled/heated individually (multi zone system). For example, if you want the first floor a bit cooler than the upper floor you can regulate it this way. Each unit has a remote control. The biggest advantage though is the not-invasive construction work compared to a central AC that requires duct work and dry walling (and you loose space...) Bonsby gave us the most affordable offer compared to other companies. Bonsby's offer included also electrical work and connecting the basement to the system (3rd zone). Both wasn't included in the other offers although their prices were higher than Bonsby's. We called Bonsby and they responded immediately. Scheduling an appointment wasn't any problem.

I called Michael Bonsby after being told by a another HVAC company that I need to replace my AC unit. I was expecting to hear the same but instead, the Michael Bonsby tech was able to get my unit running for a lot less than the 5k the other company was looking to charge me. The technician was prompt & professional and we discussed that while the unit is 10 years old, I should be able to get a few more years out of it. I would recommend

SELECTING THE CONTRACTOR We contacted a dozen contractors and received five proposals. Three contractors proposed to give us central air conditioning by installing an outdoor compressor and refrigerant lines to our 71-year old heating ducts. The ducts are sound but uninsulated behind the walls. Only one of the three contractors, BGE-Home, admitted that our heating ducts would require some modification in order to properly cool our master bedroom. BGE-Home bid $6,237, a very good price with an attractive compressor unit rated to deliver 36,000 BTU/hour of cooling. However, it became clear that central air conditioning through our existing ducts is not for us: We never need to heat or cool every room in the house at the same time. We mostly need air conditioning in the living room during the day, and in the master bedroom on summer nights. At least a third of an add-on central air conditioning system's cooling energy would be wasted: First, there are inherent inefficiencies in adding air conditioning to old heating ducts. Secondly, we would have to cool the whole house just to make the master bedroom comfortable on summer nights. Our new Mitsubishi installation is EnergyStar rated at SEER 17.5 BTU/Watt-hour for cooling. BGE-Home rated their installation "up to SEER 15", but two other contractors told us the add-on ducted system would likely achieve only a SEER of 13 BTU/W-h. The BGE-Home system would be inherently less efficient by 17-35% depending on which SEER estimate you believe. When you consider the waste of having to cool the whole house just to cool the master bedroom on summer nights, we concluded the Mitsubishi system would use 33-50% less cooling energy than the add-on ducted system. CAPITAL COST We received three proposals for a ductless split system. Again, our cost to this contractor was $6,174 after an $1,100 energy efficiency rebate from Montgomery County. The other two proposals were more than $2,000 higher, even though one of the two proposed the same machinery as did our winning contractor. THIS CONTRACTOR?S PERFORMANCE During the evaluation, we asked to visit an installation. The contractor took us to a home in DC where the homeowner praised the contractor and installation. We also must give this contractor top marks in every category. The installation crew discussed proposed details with us before proceeding, was about as neat and unobtrusive as could be, took great care with installation details, and finished the installation over two days, as promised. PERFORMANCE OF THE SYSTEM It is still January, so we have not used the system for cooling, but we have been using it for heating. It is quiet as a church mouse and pulls a significant amount of heat from the outside air even when it is 29 degrees Fahrenheit outside. We are using our gas-furnace less, so it is possible the Mitsubishi heat pump will reduce our heating cost. We have told the contractor we would be willing to show our installation to prospective customers.
Description of Work: This contractor installed a Mitsubishi ductless split air conditioning/heating system in our Silver Spring, Maryland, home. These systems are called “split” because they are inherently zoned: The system consists of a single outdoor heat pump delivering refrigerant though tubes to indoor air distributor units (two such units in our case). Our heat pump is Model MXZ3B24NA with 22,000/25,000 BTU/hour cooling/heating capacity. There is also a line draining condensate from each indoor unit. The tubes and wires run together outside our brick home in vinyl ducting that looks like a downspout. The indoor units are mounted high on the wall of our living room and master bedroom. The wall units have no compressor and do not draw in outdoor air, but are otherwise similar in principle to window-mounted air conditioners, with a filter and blower to distribute cooled/heated air into the room. Each distributor is separately controlled with a wireless device similar to a TV remote control. The system is EnergyStar rated and our cost is net an $1,100 rebate from Montgomery County.

Called because emergency thermostat constantly staying on. Have used Micheal bonsby in past one time for an air conditioning repair. the technician determined the heat pump compressor was broken and given that the system was 16 years old i decided to replace the system. They sent their estimator 4 days later and he gave a price for a new system. I also obtained 2 other estimates and decided to go with Ron Air in howard county MD. They installed a Trane sytem and I would recommend this company. Micheal Bonsby gasve me an estimate on anothe brand which I decided against.

The work went well. I liked the guy that came. They were not the cheapest ones, but I really liked their system redesign. There were a few communications problems regarding how the system would be. Other than that I did not have any problem with them. They did a nice job. I would have been happier if were able to start and finish the work on time. They did a very nice job in cleaning up after themselves.

Bonsby and his guys did a great job and we could not be happier. They started by taking a manual J calculation to figure out how big of an AC unit we needed, which many companies don't do. This way we knew they weren't over selling us on a bigger compressor than we needed for our home. Tim Anderson was our estimator and he and Mike both spent a lot of time talking with us to discuss our options. We considered a traditional AC system, high velocity and Eco-i. We ended up going with the Eco-i option, though it is pricier than a traditional unit because it is so energy efficient. They started when they said they would and they finished when they said they would. I was particularly impressed with the fact that after they left each day you couldn't tell they had been there other than the hardware and units installed. Everything was cleaned up and nothing was left lying around. They also e-mailed us a daily progress report to let us know what had been done, where they were on the time line and what to expect the next day. When the job had been completed, they came by one more time to make sure we were happy and understood how to operate the new system. Though Mike is the owner, he was around a lot and we felt very comfortable with the whole team. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who is looking for HVAC installs or repairs.
