They did a good job. They came promptly on short notice. They were a little messy while here, with the drains there is always the black ooze that comes with it that they got in a few places. They did a partial clean up and I had to go over a few spots. They were able to fix the problem which had been troublesome for some time. I was relieved that they fixed the problem. I would use them again.
Description of Work: They came out and cleaned a drain for me. They did this work a few months ago; it was the first time we had used them.

The pipes ended up breaking on Thanksgiving. I had to pay them again to come out since I would only be running on septic and well. I was upset that we had to pay them in additon to the $3000 for the repair work that they did not do correctly. I would never have them back in my house again.
Description of Work: We had just moved into the house and they reviewed the pipes to make sure everything was sound. They replaced some items they thought needed to be replaced. They did work for me two days before Thanksgiving. I had 67 people coming from out of town to celebrate.

I was very pleased with the job they did and also with the people they sent to do the job. I don't have any complaints about them at all and have since used them for other plumbing jobs.
Description of Work: They replaced one bathroom and also a half bathroom. Our house is fairly old and the plumbing had just worn out. They were able to take care of it for us, refinishing both of them.

What I liked is that they had a printed list of what they recommended and what the prices were. They're getting ready to come back out on Thursday to do the work. I was really impressed that they were able to do the work in the hail!
Description of Work: They came out to look our air conditioner and give us an estimate. We have an Eagle agreement with them where they'll give us priority if we need to have emergency work done, gives discounts on work they have done and also includes an annual inspection. We've used them for about three or four years.

They told me the blower needed to be replaced. They quoted me $1000.00, but after I researched the price I found I should not pay over $500.00. I addressed this with them and only then did they lower the price to $700.00. I was having company so I was forced to have them do the work.

We use them just to have a plumber when I need it. We also use them for heating and AC maintenance. I believe I pay more than the service warrants.
Description of Work: They are very aggressive about marketing their program. They charge $200 per year just to have access (Eagle contract) and they come out for a check up--always find things. I have frequently had the experience where an individual has come out to do a check up and generated a long list of items that need to be taken care of, sometimes with the admonition that we should have been taking care of something. I have had the experience where one employee has criticized the work done by a previous employee. For emergencies they are very prompt and do the job well. For minor things (changing hardware in a single sink to the tune of $400 which did not include the cost of hardware) they are fine but very costly in general.

We use James A Wheat & Sons a lot. For simple jobs, their quality can be uneven, and several have had to be redone. However, on a major job last year, they were superb. The pipe connecting the water from the county line to the line inside of our house was corroded and was restricting the water flow into our house. (Our house is 72 years old and maybe the pipe was, too). The company had to dig six feet down and about 45 feet over to reach the outside wall where the pipe being replaced met the pipe going into the house. Because of the vegetation in the yard, no heavy equipment could be used, and all the digging was done by hand. The men doing the digging had to dig under a 4' high stone wall, under slate stairs that run in front of the house, and between the bushes planted next to the house. They could not have worked harder, and they were careful not to damage the wall, the stairs, or the bushes. I know I drove them crazy insisting they tell me, before the work began, every detail about how they planned to do the job, and reiterating over and over that I didn't want any damage to the stone wall or the stairs. Inside the house, the pipe to which the new pipe connected was behind wallboard in a guest room. They removed as little of the wallboard as possible in order to get the new pipe connected, meaning an easy repair for us. We got our water pressure back and it was money well spent. I would heartily recommend this company for a major job like this. One thing you must NOT do, however, is assume that the sales person will communicate your concerns to the team who will do the job. Before the work began, I called the company to ask what they knew about my concerns. It turns out that the sales person had not communicated any of them to the team. The woman who answered the phone (sorry I can't remember her name) was EXTREMELY helpful, listened very well, and assured me she would relay my concerns to the team. And judging from the outcome, she must have. A few things threatened to go wrong during the week-long job. When this happened, I called the company, and they sent out a senior person to supervise the job. I recommend James A Wheat for this major type of job, with the caveat that you need to clearly communicate your expectations, understand the details of what they plan to do, agree with their plan (or negotiate changes), and then monitor the work while in progress.

Overall, well. Had hot water all weekend, though the heater stopped working sometime late Sunday and I had to have them come out again Monday morning. Tim worked on it a bit more and was unable to resolve the problem himself so he suggested calling an electrician. They suggested an electrician they had used before, but they couldn't come out until the next day so I called another electrician who resolved the problems with my electrical panel. Once that was fixed, the heater worked fine. I would have preferred they be able to handle it in-house. I have no clue as to whether I paid too much. I wanted a quick turn around so I didn't get any other quotes (aside from one other company who said they couldn't even do it the following week so didn't even give me a quote). On the plumbing side, Tim did excellent work.
Description of Work: My water heater tank stopped working the Friday before Easter. Called several plumbers, only three called me back and of those three only Wheat and Sons were willing and able to do the work that day. Tim came out, checked the heater, drove to their warehouse to pick up the new one, came back and installed the heater in under three hours.

Excellent service, the service rep was someone who had previously serviced my A/C and heating unit and I was comfortable in his ability and technical skills, he was also friendly and very knowledgeable. My only complaint was that the company wants you to sign and pay for a "service contract" good for basically two inspections a year, one for heat and one for A/C. Everything that they "find" is then extra and above and beyond the cost of the service agreement. You are basically paying for an inspection for them to then tell you what you need - I felt it was a great opportunity for them to do a sales pitch, but the rep was not overly aggressive, just told me to call me if we changed our minds or if something stopped working and they would then come out. I really appreciated not being hassled or pressure to repair/purchase anything on the spot except for the two items I chose(replacement of filters) however, I do think that is a transparent business model and I don't really like that.

The technician told me I could either replace the fan motor or the entire furnace, as it's an older unit. After giving an estimate of $715 to replace the motor, he took the unit outside. Soon, he came back in and told me he did not have the correct tool to remove the motor, and since the furnace was old, the entire unit would need to be replaced. He gave me estimates ranging from $3900 to $5800 for a new furnace. I thanked him and asked that he leave and have a nice day. The cost was $125 for the 'diagnostic' fee. The next day I had a different company come to look at the fan. He told me that my run capacitor was bad. He replaced the run capacitor and hooked the blower fan back to the furnace. Everything worked perfectly. Total charge for the repair from the second company: $118.75. Though the second company said I would eventually want a new furnace, he told me there was no problem with the one that I have and that it may last for quite a few years more.
Description of Work: The blower fan in my furnace was not working, which resulted in no Air Conditioning in the heat of summer. The technician removed the blower fan from my furnace to see what was wrong.

OUR TECHNICIAN DID NOT FOLLOW COMPANY PROCEDURES TO COMPLETELY CHECK THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. THE CUSTOMER WAS REFUNDED COMPLETELY. OUR COMPANY POLICY IS TO CHECK THE ENTIRE CONDITION AND OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM FOR THE FEE OF $125.00. OUR TECH DID NOT DO THIS AND THEREFOR WE REFUNDED THE CUSTOMER IN FULL. The serviceman arrived on time (we called early a.m. on the scheduled date to find out where we were on that day's schedule), inspected the thermostat inside and the compressor outside. Salesman & installers were professional, courteous, & very accommodating of my pets & small children. Salesman stayed in touch through entire process, checking in during work & after it was completed- nice customer service! After installation, return was too loud; they came right out & installed a second return and that fixed the problem (no charge). A couple minor inconveniences: I don't like where they put the thermostat. Also, miscommunication on pipe installation, they offered several solutions and let me choose the one that suited me best. They did consult me on vent and return placement. Bid was best by thousands of dollars. I would definitely work with them again- minor issues well worth the cost savings, and the salesman and installers were terrific.
