Germantown Heating has been doing routine maintenance on our heating and AC unit the last two years. A few weeks ago, they came out for the winter check and found that our circuit board wasn’t work and needed to be replaced. The cost would be $700. Given it was a 18 year old unit, we decided to get it replaced. We were able to get them to match a great offer we got from a competitor. It only took two days from when we agreed to the contract for them to order the equipment and come out to install it. The installation took a few hours, and the technicians worked very hard. They took the time to explain how to operate it to us, and everything seems to be working well. It was a very positive experience overall.

Everything went exceptionally well. They responded immediately to my initial call and were able to order the replacement unit the same day. Even though the unit had to be adapted to fit the existing space, all work was done in a day and a half. Everyone was very professional in their approach. I would highly recommend them for any heating/air conditioning work.

Danny came out very promptly to give me an estimate. His office even called to let me know that he was on his way but stuck in traffic , and would be a little late. I initially wasn't sure whether to replace a 10 year old system or to invest in a new one. Once he looked at my system, he gave me several reasons why the repair would not be a good investment. I was very impressed with his knowledge and that customer service was paramount-he was not just a salesman trying to sell me the most expensive system but rather recommended what was needed for my house. I was uncertain whether to purchase a whole house humidifier and Danny advised against it after discussing some of my issues with condensation. He also was very responsive and available to answer any of our questions. The day of installation, he and his crew arrived late in the afternoon, to begin the project. They expected that it would not be done until the next day but they were so efficient, that they finished the same night. .They were immaculate and went to extremes not to dirty the house.
I was initially a little concerned about using the company because I knew very little about them and had seen very little of their advertising. However, as I did my research, I discovered that several of my contacts had also used them with very positive experiences. There is a reason that they received Checkbook's excellent rating for BOTH quality and price. It was a pleasure dealing with Danny, who was not only the estimator, and installer, but also remained my primary contact throughout the project. I would highly recommend the company..

These guys are great. They have had the same capable servicemen for years. My first contact with Germantown Heating and AC was in the summer of 2004. My new house was five years and one month old, and the builder's 5-year warranty on the evaporator coil (on the heat pump responsible for cooling the upstairs level of my new house) had just expired. Germantown Heating and AC replaced the evaporator coil for a reasonable price ($740, August 2004). They recommended an annual service contract, and I am glad I took them up on it. Every spring and every fall, Mike, Paul or Ryan comes to evaluate both of my ventilation systems. They installed a whole-house humidifier, and they take care of everything. It is comforting to have them looking after us.
In March 2012, the upstairs unit finally showed signs of imminent failure. One of the company's owners, Danny Marley, came over to explain the options for a replacement unit. We chose a Bryant two-stage heat pump with a variable speed fan coil. It was expensive, but it came with a two-year labor warranty (and a ten-year parts and compressor warranty), and it has been wonderful. We know that Danny had advised us well. Recently, when the upstairs unit started making an unusual sound, Mike came over and immediately figured out the problem with the fan. Because we have an annual contract, there was no charge. Thanks guys.

Arrival was prompt. Behavior was courteous and friendly. At no time did he pressure us to buy anything additional. He only provided the service for which he came.

It went great. I have always had excellent results with this service provider.

They came quickly, worked with us on the quote. Gave professional opinions. Did the work on time.

The sale:
I reached out to GHAC after reading positive ratings for quality and price in Consumer's Checkbook. They were quick to answer their phone and set up an appointment for Danny ( the owner ) to come out and provide estimates for Bryant or Carrier systems. Danny suggested I look at Lennox which had a good rebate program in progress. He did provide me estimates for Bryant that were much better than the competition, but the Lennox prices were even better, for systems that were top off the line. Danny had many chances to upsell me on high efficiency furnaces ( he felt that they were more trouble prone and more expensive to install), electronic filter ( he was not a fan because of the ozone emissions), higher BTU furnace ( said that my current unit was over-sized already), 2-stage AC compressor (pointed to their lower reliability). It seemed that he was looking to sell me a system that what would work for me.
As I did my research on the Lennox units, including calling Lennox, I had a question on whether GHAC was an authorized Lennox dealer. When I called him back, he had the Lennox representative for the DC- Baltimore area call me back personally in less than half an hour to assure me that the GHAC was in fact an authorized dealer. After doing more research on the units and the rebates, I was able to verify every fact that Danny had provided me on the equipment, so I decided to go with GHAC.
Installation:
The GHAC installation team showed up right on time. An advance team came to start disconnecting the old system, and then Danny and another installer came to do the install of the new system. They laid out large cardboard sheets to avoid tracking dirt onto the floor. I was impressed by how the 4 people worked as a team, each one knew their role, working very efficiently. The work started at 8:30 am and was completed by 1:30 pm. They swept away all the dirt and dust and vacuumed the around the equipment inside and floor leading to the outside. The installation was very neat, the wiring was nicely secured and routed, and everything was very professionally completed. Danny and his assistant then spent half an hour with me showing me how to use the fancy thermostat and control the AC and heat, as well as how to connect the thermostat to the internet so I could monitor remotely.
When we went over the paper work, Danny's office had already filled out all the paperwork on Pepco rebates as well as the Lennox system rebate. Those were 2 less steps for me to do. The pricing was exactly as we had agreed upon - no extras, and no surprises.
In short the installation was painless.
Post Installation:
I have had the new unit operational for a month and it has been very effective in maintaining comfortable temperatures in 90 degree heat and in the cold spell in between. So it appears to have been sized correctly, though I will have to wait until winter to see how it handles very low temperatures. The system is very quiet - exactly as predicted and promised by GHAC.
I did receive a strange error message for the outside unit within one week of installation. The GHAC office was very prompt in responding to emails and phone calls, and Danny himself came over with his chief engineer at the scheduled time to investigate. It turned out the problem was called by a defect in the existing low voltage wiring that went from the outside AC to the inside unit. They replaced the wiring quickly and at no extra charge, and everything has been functioning smoothly since then.
Recommendation:
GHAC is a small company with personalized service and very responsive and knowledgeable technicians. The owner, Danny is involved in making sure the installation goes well, and in ensuring prompt follow up. I would use them again and strongly recommend them to others - for quality and for price.

Germantown Heating & Air Conditioning is very good.  They were at my home last summer.  They charged me $350.  It was really good service, they don't overcharge, they don't try to look for extra stuff to charge you.  They are quick and very friendly.

Germantown Heating and Air Conditioning (and quot;GHACand quot;) was recommended to me by a long-time Montgomery County resident whom I trust and respect. They were one of three vendors which reviewed and proposed on the job and they were the ones who seemed to be more careful in their choice of systems and also offered the best value proposition. They were very accomodating in working with me on my schedule. They removed the furnace so I could then replace the floor and waited until I called them back to schedule installing the new furnace. Their installation was competant and professional and a crew spent most of the day installing the new equipment. I couldn't be more pleased and don't usually take the time to write referrals/reviews like this.

They were punctuual, accurate, clean, they did everything they said they were going to do and the called afterward to follow up to see if everything was ok. Yes I would use them again.

These guys are the best! I got about 4 or 5 estimates from leading companines in the area on the exact same system (Bryant Evolution) and they had the best price by far and their service was outstanding. Danny the owner came out to my house for the estimate and made some excellent recomendations and he was very easy to work with. He also came to my house on the day of the install to make sure that things were done as we had discused during the estimate. Besides being better priced than the others, by being a little more creative they were able to do some other things that the other companies said could not be done, like putting in a larger size filter due to space constraints. Best price, best suggestions, and great service - what's not to like? This is the first time I have ever rated a company on Angies List and I am happy to be doing it for Germantown Heating and Air.

Paul is very personable and comes out immediately. He found the problem right away and fixed it. The charges are very reasonable. He was efficient and professional. I would recommend their services to anyone.

I have had a service contract with Germantown Heating and A/C since 2004. Every season, someone comes to check the systems. They are always professional, knowledgable, and friendly.

They are very responsive. He likes my dogs, is good with animals. They frequently have coupons and always tell you what anything will cost. They are very honest.

Tim came promptly and began the systems check. He indicated that the thermostat would need to be replaced and that the humidifier needed new tubing. He did not have a programmable thermostat in his van nor did he have tubing to replace the cracked tubing on the humidifier. He requested payment for the systems check and when I asked when he would be back he said the office would call me to set an appointment. I pointed out to him that I had set this appointment specifically to check and/or repair the thermostat and the humidifier and asked why he didn't have those parts available. He simply indicated that they couldn't carry everything in the van. I further pointed out that we had purchased the humidifier, furnace and thermostat from Germantown Heating and it didn't matter. I canceled the next appointment, we will not be using Germantown Heating again.

Came in at 9 as advertised and left at approx. 4 PM. Lots of people here, perhaps to oversee the proper installation. WSSC guy arrived one day later and said everything was up to code. 1,000$ rebate from Bryant was quick and painless. Perhaps would have liked to see them not enter the rebate into their original estimate.

Firm called back promptly after we called them, made appointment for same day, arrived in a timely manner, explained what was being done, made repairs as described above. We liked them.

He showed up on time and quickly determined that we had two problems: the filters were clogged, and the fresh air intake from the roof was blocked. He washed the filters but said that unblocking the air intake would require a separate crew on another day. He charged us only for the initial 1/2 hour fee, even though he was there longer, because the job could not be completed on that day. I was very pleased with this company and will definitely use them again.

On a hot, humid September day, our A/C stopped working. When we called, Germantown Heating and Air Conditioning said that someone would be there between 1:00-3:00 p.m. At exactly 1:00 (within an hour of calling), Paul arrived. He performed all of the work described above, was professional and courteous.
