Motivational Movers was EXCELLENT. All of the guys were polite, hard working, and professional. They worked together as a team, with four guys doing the lifting and one supervising and keeping everything running smoothly. They had given me an estimate of 6-8 hours for moving most of our stuff, but when they arrived I asked if they could stop at around four or five hours (since we had already purchased the deal and didn't want to pay much more). They ended up moving A LOT more than we expected, and only took 4:15. It was very impressive. Throughout the move, the supervisor kept updating me about the time, and they also allowed me to keep adding boxes for them to pile on the truck. I was literally throwing things into any container I could find, and they were taking them out. We only stopped when their truck filled up! Overall, it was definitely worth the money, and would have been even if we had paid full price. I highly recommend this company.

At first it was great. They were very responsive via email and gave me a great price quote for 5 men for 4-4.5 hours. They showed up on time, but it all went down hill from there. 3 of the 5 men were incredibly LAZY! They weren't fast to move and the head guy of the team continued to whine about what little work they were doing. The guy in the apartment was friendly but eventually started talking about blacking out of rage at people and beating them up...what the heck? Totally unprofessional. They had 75% of the stuff out of my apartment in the first 1.5 hours, but then they slowed up quite a bit I suppose to be paid for their full 4 hours I was quoted. When I went down to the truck everything was packed in a very straight line, which is what was requested for this trailer; however, they had all of the incredibly heavy items in the middle of the truck not at the front (like any normal person knows to do when packing a truck). They even had an IKEA desk flipped upside down and on the very very tip top of everything! How on Earth were we supposed to unpack that when I reached my destination (long distance so I wasn't using them). When my trailer arrived SO MANY THINGS WERE DAMAGED! The desk that I mentioned has huge chunks of wood out of it because of how it was placed in the truck. My headboard and footboard were damaged due to how they were crammed in. My nightstands and dressers were damaged. My bookshelf with a glass door was completely torn apart because of the angle they shoved it in at. Even the head mover said it was a "game of tetris" to try and pack it and remove it. A glass table top, which was appropriately packed was chipped because of how it was placed in the truck. It was DANGEROUS for us to be on the truck attempting to remove items because of how it had all shifted! I gave them ropes and braces to use as they packed to prevent any shifting of my items and they didn't use one of them! What the heck?! It's like they had never packed anything before. I've never been more disappointed with a company that was highly rated on Angie's list. And to top it all off, I recently called their office. No answered so I left a message. It's been over a week and no one has called me back. Talk about terrible service. I would NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE and DIDN'T recommend them to a friend who was recently moving. You're nuts if you use them. REBUTTAL TO SERVICE PROVIDER RESPONSE: In the email I was provided, their minimum time of service was 3 hours. I have attached this email from Motivational Movers to your email. There's 1 blatant lie. When they stated that the "customer..inspected the load", I looked at the truck and it all appeared to be packaged. What more inspection can one do? I gave them a gratuity because I thought the move was difficult (4th floor apartment) and that that was what was expected. They WERE requested to not "lock" the load with the board that goes in the truck, as more furniture was added; however, this does not remove the fact that they packaged all of the heaviest items at the BACK of the truck NOT toward the front as everyone knows they should do when packaging a truck. At the time of inspection, how was I to know exactly how they had packaged everything? I don't have x-ray glasses. The boards were appropriately put in place and did not shift during the moving of the truck. I placed 4 ratchet straps on the back of the load to prevent everything from moving PRIOR to placing the board ("board the same widtch of the truck with metal pole and locking mechanism") and locks in the truck. AGAIN, I gave the movers EIGHT ratchet straps and ROPE to place throughout the loading of the truck to prevent things from shifting. They said they didn't need them. CLEARLY they did! I did understand the directions, but the board, as I explained to the movers, was not designed to withhold the weight of the packages. It's simply a divider mechanism. This was explained to the head mover and he said he had worked with one of these before, so he understood. None of the items loaded by the customer (me) were damaged. This included a dresser and several totes. The point of a "voicemail" system is to LEAVE A MESSAGE. I'm not sure how receiving my voicemail, meant that it was "making it impossible for us to leave her a message." There is no value to that point. I received a number of calls after my move from unknown numbers, and like millions of people in the US I screened my calls. No one ever left me a message.

Response from Motivational Movers
We are sorry for the customers loss, but we do not understand this complaint. The points in this case are confusing to us because the customer states the team was lazy, yet the customer complimented us throughout the entire move. The customer states that we slowed to get paid for the full 4 hours, yet it is made clear prior to the service that we have a minimum time of 4 hours for services whether the service is finished in 2 hours, 3.5 hours, or 3 hours and 59 minutes and the customer is always billed for a minimum of 4 hours. We finished the customers service UNDER the estimated time. We also do not understand why the customer failed to mention that they inspected the load at the completion of the pack, and complimented the service and gave a higher than average gratuity. The customer also failed to mention in this complaint, that they instructed us not to lock the load down, because they were adding more furniture to it themselves at another location later. The supervisor explained to them exactly what needed to be done to lock this load down correctly. Hence, making the load physically impossible to shift as their tractor trailer rides over bumps and bridges. A board the same width of the truck with a metal pole and a locking mechanism was provided, and she was instructed how to use it properly to protect the load. The customer was also instructed on what she had to do to ensure a solid pack when adding to what was already done. At that point, she indicated that she understood the directions and was satisfied with our work and signed off on the contract. Noted in our estimate, our confirmation service letter, and in the contract that Motivational Movers, LLC does not accept responsibility for items, packed or loaded by the customer themselves. Our task was completed to customer satisfaction, what the customer had added to the load, and how they may have locked it down we have no knowledge of. We were not present, and we bare no responsibility for it. Once we received a voice message from the customer on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in regards to this matter, we attempted to contact her multiple times on August 5, 6, 7 and 8, 2013. Each time reaching her full voice mail, making it impossible for us to leave her a message. Based on the above factors (i.e. the progression of the service, the customers expressed satisfaction at the end of the service, the crew obliging her requests, and the supervisor further instruction for safely securing her belongings) we find this complaint extremely contradictory and confusing.

These guys are one of the best companies Ive found on angieslist. They arrived on time and instead of just the 6 movers we expected, the owner stayed all day as the 7th worker. He walked through and verified everything with me, we looked at the paperwork, and only when that was done did he start the clock. We brought them lunch and they worked for another hour until they hit a good stopping point before they ate, and when they did, the owner stopped the clock and didnt charge us for their break. Their price was great, much better than the other 3 companies that gave us an estimate. Their truck was very large, and they had a pick up to shuttle smaller loads back and forth. Very friendly crew, they all said thanks for lunch and were very nice to our 3 kids, calling them by name and letting the "help" some. Highly recommended.

Our family began working with a different mover and found the price was going to be $900. Then we saw Angies listing a special deal for moving for around $399; so, we canceled the first deal with the first movers because we believed that the Angies list person is going to be trustworthy. The advertisement on Big Deal stated a price for around $399.00 to move our three bed room house's contents. The reality is that the $399 price was just a down payment that turned out to be a $1300 estimate for the move. Since we canceled the first deal, we were out of time and felt that we had to stick with motivational movers. We discovered that the price was really going to be $900 more than first advertised; but, we felt that we had no choice as we had canceled the first movers and we were running out of time. We booked the deal, with much sadness, as we felt that the ad had misled us into changing our minds. We basically trusted the listing. When we thought about the incident further, we didn't want to support the company who we felt had misrepresented themselves; and, our stuff was a really small amount. We canceled the deal and they charged us $75 dollars for canceling the appointment. The sad thing is that we moved the stuff our selves with a small pick up truck with the contents being a very little job. Believe the Old adage that says......If it seems to good to be true....It usually is. Read the small print as your pocket book will appreciate it.

This was the THIRD time I have hired Motivational Movers for moving furniture and other items in the last year ! Makhi and his team are awesome ! They are prompt, efficient and were careful with all of my precious items. I had large amounts of antiques, crockery and glass. Nothing was broken or damaged. My two most recent moves involved the death of a parent and moving a disabled family member to a group home. Makhi and his team were very sensitive to these emotionally charged situations and put my mind at ease with their professionalism. They are the only movers that I am going to call from this time on - they have my business for life ! Don't waste your time looking for other movers. Makhi and his team are the absolute best !

Said on the Big Deal to call and make sure availability is there before purchasing the offer. Called company to schedule and get estimate. I was told that I had to find pricing information online. I filled out information regarding what type of furniture, size of the house, number of steps etc… I had the same furniture moved a year ago using 2 men for 4 hours, this BD is for 4 men for 4 hours, but according to the company it will take 4 men 8 hours, costing me $700 in addition to the $319 I paid for the BD. Called to question estimate and the person I spoke to said they didn’t handle estimates, and that the people who do would not change the price. I did not feel comfortable using this company because the additional cost is so high.

I spoke with them before purchasing the Deal and thought that we agreed on a price range. I knew not to expect an exact amount, but the bid they gave me seemed fine. After I bought the Deal, it turned out that the bid was on top of what I paid for the Deal, which increased the cost by 75%. I found their estimate very misleading, and ended up getting a refund on the Deal.

The team of workers did a great job and were professional but I can't say the same about management. When I spoke to them there sole solution was " Well we can cancel this and call our team of movers back...your choice this is what you told us and that is what we are prepared to do" I was very dissapointed in that response
Description of Work: The company relied soley on my estimate and I do not move furniture for a living...when my estimate was off they were not prepared. I do work in customer service and yes the customer is always right but I feel great companies are ready and prepared just in case the customer is wrong. I was prepared to pay what ever the difference was between my estimate and there's...the only problem is they were not prepared or flexible to do anything other than what my estimates said.

I bought a moving deal and I want to point out that the office staff was EXCELLENT! We had to change the move date and Amanda was terrific and very reachable and communicative throughout. All the pre-move paperwork was handled very, very smoothly. On the day of the move, the team consisted of a leader and three young men that the leader supervised. The work was done quickly, both the packing and the unpacking at the destination address. However, I noticed that the team did not put down protection on the carpet. Other movers I have used routinely put down protection over the carpeting to avoid staining and tracking shoe marks through the home (at no additional charge). One of the furniture pieces had not been cleaned and drained of water and beer. That was NOT the fault of the movers but to not say anything about the obvious soaking to the carpet was not excellent or good customer service. When I asked about the dripping, I was told, "Oh, yeah, it was dripping all through the downstairs, too, as we moved it." I asked why nothing was said, and one of the young men replied, "It wasn't our responsibility to drain it or clean it." I would have appreciated a heads up and to be asked how I wanted to handle the situation, not to have water dripped all over the carpeting from the family room up the carpeted steps and out through the carpeted living room. On balance, the move was completed at a reasonable price, with the administrative side done flawlessly and within the quoted time frame. The actual moving crew seemed a little inexperienced and it was there that the actual moving quality slipped to fair. The crew leader was personable and handled things that he observed and thought might be problematic. I think he did an adequate job supervising. This particular move is precipitating another move, and for that move I am using a different company that I used in the past. UPDATE: At the time of the first review, I was waiting for my daughter and son-in-law to discover what glass piece had been broken. Before the move began, I inspected the entrance to the home, sidewalk and walkway and they were clear and clean. After the movers' truck left, there was broken glass all over the walkway, the sidewalk, our yard and the neighbors yard. At the destination, over some soda and pizza, we asked the movers what had broken and they said nothing. We said that after they left we spent at least 20 minutes or more sweeping broken glass. The movers replied that the broken glass was there when they pulled up. I hope the owners and managers motivate their employees to be more honest and forthright. The broken piece was from a dorm size refrigerator whose glass shelf was broken on the pavement outside the front of the house that was being departed. That, coupled with the defensive tone about the heavy dripping from the beer dispenser make this company not one that I would use or recommend. Further, knowing other better movers, the price to quality on this move was worth it. Again, their office staff are awesome but their actual youthful moving team need more training, especially in customer service.
Description of Work: Moved a bedroom, office, living, bathroom, weight set and most of a kitchen from Silver Springtownhouse to semi-detached 3-level home in Frederick, Maryland. The movers moved already packed boxes and marked furniture. The entire move was accomplished in under four hours.

Once we had a closing date for our house, I contacted several movers for quotes. I contacted some with good reviews from Angie's list, some that were recommended by my realtor, and some that were mentioned by friends. Ultimately I went with Motivational Movers and here's why: 1. More for the money. Most companies offered me 4 movers. Motivational Movers gave me 5 for about the same price the other companies were charging for 4. Plus, they had a great deal on their website that offered a discount on the first 4 hours of the move. 2. Easy quote option. I filled out a quote request on the web. Motivational Movers has a form on their website that pretty much inventories your whole house virtually. Later that same day, I received a quote from the company. 3. Friendly first encounter. Amanda in the front office answered ALL of my questions and was very helpful and friendly. I followed up with all the companies from whom I received web quotes, and I found Amanda to be one of the most helpful people I encountered. When I was worried that I might have underestimated my box count (and I did - I thought we'd have 100 boxes, turns out we had 200) she told me they figure that in to the estimate. Once I confirmed that I I wanted to go with Motivational Movers, Amanda walked me through the process to confirm my date and even gave me tips on things I could do to save time/money on the day of the move. 4. Straightforward prices. A lot of movers I contacted charged per hour from the time they left their headquarters until they finished the move and got back to their start point. Since none of the movers were around the corner, and since I was moving 40 miles farther out - I could see those fees adding up quickly. Motivational Movers had a flat mileage charge and a gas charge so I didn't have to worry about the clock ticking and charges racking up for movers were stuck in traffic. 5. Fast, friendly, and efficient move. On the day of the move, the movers arrived within the specified time frame. I even got a "heads up" call from Amanda letting me know the movers were about 10 minutes away. When the movers arrived, the supervisor introduced himself and we started the walk through of the house. I told him about furniture that I was especially concerned about moving and other issues I had. He alerted the crew and they took extra care with those items. He then went over pricing with me (which was the same as the quote) and reviewed the estimated hours to completion. He told me that they always try to beat those goals. I figured there was no way that would happen - I had under estimated the amount of "stuff" AND I still hadn't finished packing the master bedroom when the movers arrived. Anyway I was told they would move the master bedroom last to give me time to finish packing. I was able to finish packing that room at just about the time they were ready to move it. They were packed up and ready to go to the new house in what seemed like a flash. I was impressed how fast they were moving, but even though I was amazed at the speed they kept apologizing for how slow they were. I guess it took them a little longer than they are used to since I had so much stuff it had to be tightly packed in a tetris-like fashion to fit everything in. Still, even though they thought they were slow, I was impressed at how fast their "slow" speed is. When we got to the new house everything went very quickly and the supervisor was right - they beat the LOW estimate for how long the move would take by 45 minutes. 6. No troubles. The entire crew worked very hard all day. They were all polite and friendly. Everything arrived in perfect condition. The only hiccup in the move is that the ceiling in the new house had spot (not a dent, just a spot) from my very big, very heavy, very awkward armoire being moved down a tight, curvy staircase. I pointed that out to the supervisor, he assessed the damage (and determined the bump didn't dent the drywall), and since I had extra ceiling paint available, had one of the crew members touch up the spot. Now, you'd never know there was a spot and that was the ONLY issue in a move of over 200 boxes, lots of furniture, and lots of fragile stuff. Overall, the experience was great. Moving is a very stressful time, and Motivational Movers did everything they could to make the move as smooth as possible. I would recommend Motivational Movers enthusiastically and without hesitation.

The movers did an amazing job. They were polite, friendly, cheerful and super efficient. We had a 4 BR 2 BA house full of furniture and mostly pre-packed boxes and they moved all of our stuff into the new house in just 5 hours. We tried to move as many of the smaller items (such as clothes and knick-knacks) as we could ourselves beforehand to save time, but we were still really pleasantly surprised at how fast they got our stuff over. They were very, very nice and professional and we would absolutely use them again.
Description of Work: Four men moved our furniture and boxes from one house to another one approximately 5 miles away.

Went very well. Only hiccup was they had to repack a portion of the truck to make it all fit. This caused about 45 min delay which they gave me a credit for. Excellent price and service. Would use them again

I have never used professional movers before and so it was a new experience for me. I was extremely pleased with Motivational Movers. I took advantage of the deal of $270 for four men and four hours and never thought they could do it in four hours and all I could do was hope for that. They were so professional and pleasant and the move in fact was completed in the four hours. Money was tight for me and so I am so appreciative of the deal that I had. Also I was very appreciative of how helpful they all were to me. I had some questions on where everything would go in the new place and they were so helpful to me in that regard. To sum it up, Motivational Movers completed an excellent move for me and I am very appreciative of everything they did and the manner in which they did everything. I would highly recommend them to anyone making a move. In fact, I moved in with my daughter who moved from Woodbridge to the new place and she commented that she wished she had used Motivational Movers. Paula Eastes

I think I said it all in the first block. Until this mover gets experienced adults to handle the furniture and who do not take constant breaks forcing their manager to be there and to constantly be on their tail, I will never use this mover again. Also, the front office who I called was not nearly as accessible and pleasant as McKendrees in Waldorf. They also could not accommodate my need to move with little notice. McKendrees did move mountains to help me in a difficult position I was in. Why oh why did I not use them again???
Description of Work: Moving company- to move me a few miles to a new apartment I paid for 4 men to move me in 4 hours with truck. There was a manager and four men. The manager was great, funny, had lots of stories, nice person. His crew was young and except for one man, who seemed to become weary of the antics and laziness of the others, were inexperienced and appeared to be happy to stand around at every opportunity. The manager moaned and complained that his crew was not working or responding to him. The boys didn't seem to know that you should turn a chair or couch in such a way that it fits through a doorway. Even I know how to do that! The manager had to come and direct them on how to turn the furniture to get it through. I watched as the boys scraped my couch all the way down a long hallway without a thought. The leather couch was damaged. I didn't complain. My review may have been better (probably not) if I hadn't had such stellar service by a moving company in Waldorf MD, McKendrees Movers. They were all experienced adults. There were only three of them and they were professionals!! Not a word of discontent. Not a concern as I watched them expertly handle my furniture. They protected it. They carried a Humongous desk-VERY heavy and large up four flights of stairs expertly. Amazing. And the price was good. I would go back to them any day regardless of the distance and the price. I
