I had 3 companies look at my furnace. All of them took advantage of an older single woman and quoted up to 1,200.00 for the job. I had to spend the last 2 months of last winter with no heat at all because I didn't have that much money. This year I called A.J Michael's and they fixed the problem for under $300.00. Bruce, my Service Man, was the most friendly, courteous and professional person I have ever dealt with. He gave me tips on how to keep my furnace working properly and took extra time to explain everything I needed to know. In my opinion, there is no better company than one that is honest. A.J Michaels has proven to be honest and trustworthy.

I had a small issue with scheduling the first go around. I needed the service at the latest time available which I was told was 330 pm. They called me at 1115 and told me the service tech was on his way. Had to reschedule for another time, this time it went very smooth. I left work about an hour early and good thing I did as i was driving home AJ Michaels called and told me they were on their way. No a problem as i planned for this. The service tech was great. went over everything he saw in my furnace and wrote up a very detailed reciept which i need for my home warranty. service was great tech was great highly recommend AJ Michaels.

I called AJ Michaels on a Monday afternoon, and they scheduled replacement of my water heater for the next day. The customer rep. I spoke to (Ashleigh) was great-- helpful and pleasant. The price she quoted for the work was exactly what I was charged--no hidden charges. I was told to expect delivery of the water heater ahead of the tech team and it arrived as promised on Tuesday morning. Kyle and Dave, the technicians arrived on time and went right to work. They laid paper to protect my floors and removed the old heater, then unpacked and brought in the new one. They managed to navigate a couple of sharp turns and a narrow staircase down to my basement without complaint. The installation was all done in about two hours. I couldn't have asked for a more seamless and easy transaction. Based on this experience, I will definetly use this provider again.

The customer service at A.J. Michaels was very nice and helped me get a refund for my service plan I purchased. However, I was charged nearly $250 for a technician to tell me what my problem was without actually fixing it. I'm not sure if that is standard rate, but I felt it was high.

Everyone that I interacted with was very professional, from the workers to the estimator. Paul was the lead guy on the job and he is fantastic, does a great job and even kind to my curious kids. The work was done on time and was nicely cleaned up afterward. The new furnace is beautiful and all of the piping work was meticulously done. My brother in law who is a home builder was impressed. We had an issue with a radiator leaking a bit after the change up. We were warned that this might be an issue since the radiators are old and have been used for steam heat for 80 yrs. They fashioned a new radiator for us and kept true to their original guesstimate for such a repair even though their original guesstimate was mistakenly 20% of the actual cost. I was glad that they had the integrity to stick by their word! Also had some issues with hearing harmonics as the water flowed through the old pipes. This was an unanticipated consequence of the change up but had more to do with this being an old house and not much to do with their work. They came out several times, changed the filter and even emptied the water out of the system to see if it would help. The humming sound remained. It has decreased over the past year and I have to say that my total gas and electric bill has been less than half of what I was paying for Oil alone. I don't regret doing this (the harmonics are less noisy than the steam banging that was going on before) and would definitely use AJ Michaels again for other work. Thanks!

Salesman courteous and explained the installation process.
Workers arrived promptly on time. Put plastic on surfaces traveled through rooms to keep carpet clean. Very careful not to damage anything. Workers very professional.
Old furnace and hot water heater removed without any problems. Furnace installed and tested and everything worked fine.
Job completed in one day. Called to follow up. Inspected by Harford County plumbing, HVAC, and electrical departments. All said it was a very professional job well done.

We are very happy with the finished job. We had to have them reposition the boiler and the crew chief had them repostion the hor water heater they had both been installed in a way that servicing them would be difficult.

Happy 2014 to me. My furnace died on January 4. I called AJ Michaels because I have seen their van in my neighborhood on more than one occasion. They immediately scheduled a service call, and a technician arrived within an hour. His assessment was grim, and he scheduled an estimator to come out and take a look at the cost of a replacement. I had estimated my furnace at 17 years old; it was 30 and had been living on borrowed time long enough.
The estimate was for an HVAC replacement, and the research I had done indicated it fell well within the realm of reasonability for the house size, etc. Costs lined up to what I had seen, and I was really impressed with AJ MIchaels' guarantee of workmanship as well as their warranty. It was a no-brainer; scheduled the work.
Unfortunately, the units needed to be ordered. But AJ Michaels brought me space heaters to use in the interim, which was very customer-focused and much appreciated.
The day of the install, Dan organized and performed the work, managing all the discussions with me and keeping me informed. I don't remember the last time any technician removed his boots when walking through a house - but every time Dan came out of the cellar, his shoes/boots were off. It reminded me of all the contractors my mom ever hired during our home renovations and how polite and neat they were. You just don't see that very much anymore. Another great example was toward the end of the job, Dan mentioned that there was a problem with the first furnace they had for me; they had to get a replacement from Hanover (about 40 minutes away, one way). I said, and quot;Wow, I didn't know that.and quot; He said, and quot;Yep, you didn't need to know that.and quot; THAT is great customer service.
The work was completed within about 5 hours, and before Dan left, he told me he was going to run down to the neighborhood hardware store and pick up a filter for me - because I didn't have the right size anymore. He came back, put in the filter, and within a few minutes, he was tapping at the door to let me know everything was done.
I would absolutely without reservation recommend AJ Michaels to anyone in need of plumbing or HVAC work - they are not kidding when they say that customer service is important to them. They are amazing.

The rep from AJ Michaels came within 24 hours of our first call. He quickly presented us with a proposal. We originally asked him to give us an estimate for a flexible tubing system instead of a metal duct system. He advised us against the tubing saying that it would cost 1/3 again more ($21K vs. $14K) and was not at all required for our sized home. We appreciated the cost savings and have not regretted their recommendation.
They arrived on time, spent full days working, cleaned up behind themselves (to the best of their ability), and provided us with a quality system. The work was done on schedule.
I added this review after reading a few and quot;Fand quot; ratings by folks who NEVER USED the services of AJ Michaels. I find that completely and utterly unfair.
I have recommended them to family and friends, most recently on 12/29/2013.

My wife and I came home from vacation to discover that our water heater had exploded and our basement was covered in water. I worked all night to clean up the mess, and called a couple companies the next day to see about replacing it. Their prices were pretty comparable, everyone was saying about a thousand dollars. Other companies offered to have someone out in a few days, but AJ Michaels scheduled an appointment for only an hour from the time I called. The rep showed up on time and assessed the situation. The next morning, two workers came out and had the whole unit replaced in about 2 hours. They were very thorough in their clean up and even mopped up where they had spill some water in the living room.

Our air conditioner broke in the last day or so and we called this company after receiving some good reviews from neighbors. We called this morning and spoke to an extremely friendly woman who said she would have someone come out today. Very soon after, someone called and said they were in the area and could be right over. He was very friendly and professional, had the problem figured out in no time (broken capacitor) and was had the parts available to fix on the spot. Between calling to set up an appointment, a service-man over to our house, and the problem fixed....we had our air up and running again in under 2 hours! INCREDIBLE! We were so impressed and happy with their service. Would gladly use them again and recommend them highly!

They fixed the problem without charge. Stood behind their work and I would call upon them again without any hesitation. They have repaired other problems in our home as well, they installed a new furnace/air conditioning unit and when we need service, we call and they respond promptly! The service was excellent. The two technicians - Dan (I think that's his name) and Kyle were obviously experienced, They were fast, focused and friendly. They didn't waste time but stayed focused on getting the job done. They were as neat as possible and cleaned up before leaving. They explained everything I needed to know and (this is really important to me) allowed me to perform the tasks of removing the filter and programing the thermostat rather then just doing it and leaving me to figure it out. Dan checked the leak in the bathroom, did some very minor adjustment and asked that we wait an hour to see if the leak started again. He then went back to working on the heat pump installation. His adjustment stopped the leak. A trouble shooter came to the house to determine if anything more needed to be done with the leak. A vice president of A. J. Michaels also came to check the work. While the salesman prepared me that the work might take a and quot;longand quot; day or into the next day, these guys finished by 4:00 and were out by 4:30. All in all, an overall great experience. The only reason I rated and quot;PRICEand quot; at a and quot;Band quot; is that I have nothing to compare it to - but the service made the price worthwhile regardless of any comparisons.

The sump pump died two weeks later and I learned how to replace it myself given that the quote provided for a replacement was extremely high. I also simplified the entire system and set up so that future replacements can be made with ease. While I was impressed with the professionalism and response of AJ Michaels, I'm not sure I truly received the thorough service that was needed in identifying the crux of the problem. I would consider using AJ Michaels again, but will do some cost and quality comparison before doing so.

During the holiday season, the absolute worst time, our steam boiler broke. Our home was built in 1930 and the system is very old but well designed and we wanted to replace what needed replacing but retain the integrity of the original system if possible. AJ Michaels' rep, Don, was very professional and willing to explain everything in detail. This was a pricey repair so we needed to think long and hard before making our decision. All during the process, Don checked in regularly to see we had questions or concerns. He offered to bring space heaters over. That was a nice touch. The guys got started as soon as possible, New Years Eve day. It took a whole day and a team of guys just to break down and remove the behemoth old steam boiler. Then a smaller team of guys installed the new boiler on 1/2/13 and 1/3/13. It was painstaking work getting the boiler in and then making all the connections to the steam pipes going in and out. The guy who did the piping work did a masterful job. It's like a sculptural work of art. Plus it works.
We have heat again. Hallelujah! So far, we are really pleased. There were a few little things to take care of post installation and AJ Michaels has been very responsive.

Everyone was fantastic(salesman, installers, technicians). I would absolutely use this company again. I obtained 3 estimates and they, for the price, were the best value. There were some calibration issues following the install and the company responded immediately and worked until everything worked correctly.
