They postponed the remediation so I miss my closing date. Then they were to have the work done by September 18 so that I could close on September 19, well that did not happen either. It was September 22 before we were able to close.
Description of Work: I was selling my house and the buyers inspector thought that there might be mold in the crawl space and attick. I did not see it and my inspector did not see it. But the buyer paid for the inspection through their realtor and mold was found in the crawl space never was I shown AND proof of molmold in the attic, NEVER! I had Mr. Basement come out and give me an estimate to remove the mold, just under $4000. But they did not want me using my guy.So they wanted Harford Radon and Real Estate Repairs to do the removal at a cost of $6300. The whole time I am asking for proof of the mold in the attic and never receiving it. The response that I received was that they do the attic automatically. All the while charging me double what my guy wanted . It seems to me that the realtor was in with the inspector and mold remediation group. The whole time that this is going on I am paying for two houses and they do not care. The would not respond to our phone calls and we're not on the job when the buyers realtor said that they would be. I will be writing a review on the realtor as well. I would not recommend the people to any one.

Description of Work: I was selling my house and the radon levels were higher than recommended. Harford Radon asked me a number of questions about my house and then gave me a quote to correct the issue. The appointment was scheduled and they arrived on-time. Wok was completed quickly and professionally. They clean everything up andprovided me with a detailed account of what they did and how the system operated before they left. Got the new radon test results about a week later and they are below the recommended levels.

Harford Radon came out to provide an estimate on mold remediation in our basement storage room. They were on time, and provided a thorough estimate via email within two days. A small, family-run business, the office staff was friendly and responsive, and quickly scheduled the estimate the same week that I contacted them. The property in question is going up for sale, so I ended up selecting another vendor based on a lower price available (and somewhat smaller scope of work). I would certainly contact them again if I have need in the future.

Description of Work: I have no complaints about the work they did. The services were paid for at closing by the previous owner of my house and the company didn't communicate anything with me until I asked my realtor to be involved. They kept communicating the results and such with the precious owner, even though it was a prepaid service. I felt the way they handled my inquiries about the results and what work would be done was really unprofessional. I understand the previous owners paid for the service, but I own the home. All communications should have come to me, not the previous owner.

Very professional service. Harford Radon had installed the original mitigation system for previous owners in March 2004. Replaced dead 10 year old fan with new fan; service call was $165.00 and new fan was $250.00. They completed the job within a half an hour and checked to make sure pressure levels were good and system was running properly before they left. Gave me paperwork for 5 year warranty on the fan. Very pleased with entire process. Our peace of mind was worth every cent.

It did not go well, and continues to not go well because the truth is not being told by this Company.
Description of Work: Terrible business that only cares about money. Were hired to remove mold from our home and left a huge amount. My family got very sick and still are. He refuses to return and remove any of the mold he left. He is also rude in the way he acts. He actually told me, knowing I was very sick from mold exposure to remove the mold myself even though he was paid 300/hour to remove it. Do not use this person or you will regret it. With insurance you get one chance to get your house clean. Dont waste that on this scammer. Reply to what Steve is saying below- Steve, what does a conflict I had with family at the time, which has since been 100% resolved, have to do with your incredible incompetence? I showed your mold report to my Biotoxin Specialist and even he said the report is useless, as is your testing. NEVER hire any company ot do mold testing, get online a purchase a ERMI test, its the only relevant test there is. Also, Steve again makes no sense, saying I didn't hire him. 100% UNTRUE!!!! My insurance company paid Harford Radon, I can produce the bills paid by the insurance and my name is on the policy. Lying will get you no where Steve. And I live there, the co owner hasn't stepped foot in the place in a year! How can he say whether the job was done right or not??? He has not been inside the home since the work was done! A huge amount of work was left to be done after Steve at Harford Radon was grossly overpaid. The person I had the conflict with that Steve mentioned thankfully referred me to a MUCH better company, Air and Mold Technologies in Perry Hall, MD. They came in and for a fraction of the cost installed a unit that fixed this place. I had a lot of work I had to have done before I found them, but they have a much better service. Anyone that is considering using Harford Radon can contact me and I will show that I am co-owner and the sole person living in this residence, I am the one that called Harford Radon and PAID for the testing out of my pocket, and my insurance policy paid the rest. SO how is it I am not a part of this? If I can't prove everything above I will pay $1000 to anyone who asks. Steve is a liar, he did a terrible job and won't own up to it, he charged way to much for what he did, and that is that. He isn't a terrible guy, before it got personal since he happened to go to School with the co-owner of the home, he was a decent guy. But after he found out the other owner his attitude quickly changed, and he went from working for me to correctly fix the issues to doing a favor for the person who doesn't even live here. I can provide great advise to anyone that gets mold, don't hesitate to email me at kevin020@yahoo.com. I can help with treatments, if you are really sick I have a great Doctor I can refer you to. My wife and I are in very bad condition from the mold. WE are and will be on medication for a long time. Harford Radon is the least of my problems at this point, I honestly am more concerned with anyones health being damaged due to his lack of correctly fixing a mold problem. If you are in the percentage of people who's body cannot expel mold, you are likely not going to benefit by this company, you need much more. The air test they do is not accurate, even the EPA states it only takes a "snapshot" of the air at that spot at that time, it in no way tells what is in the air and what is going into your body. Again, I would also be concerned at the lying- email me and I will show what he wrote back is mostly untrue, and again why does it matter who the contract was with? I am the person living inside the home, not the co-owner who he is referring to. How can a person who never lived in this home give a accurate review on the work done? After Steve was done, that person didn't still see the mold left behind, didn't smell the mold left behind, didn't in any way deal with Harford Radon after the work was done. I am the person who emailed Steve and told him mold was left behind, my family was extremely sick from mold exposure (which I have documented by two Doctors now), and I got a reply to clean the mold up myself. I will gladly forward that email to anyone who asks. He refused to come back and expected a person sick from mold to- clean up mold! Steve, a simple trip back to remedy the issues would have fixed this. Some respect would have been nice, instead of favoring the person I was in conflict with at the time because you happened to know him personally. You did in fact do everything I wrote above, I have twenty people that saw it, I have emails to prove you told me to clean up the mold myself, photos of the mold you left behind. All I can tell people is make your own decision, but I sincerely hope you have better luck out of Harford Radon then we did. Mold will destroy your life, it is nothing to mess with. ANY help at all with mold, don't hesitate to email me. I will help any one in any way I can that have have been affected by mold.

It was an educational, and very expensive experience. We have primarily been do-it-yourselfers and have had little experience with contractors. What we've learned: Get a detailed estimate that breaks down the cost for specific portions of the job, and never ever pay the bill in full before you've had a chance to fully inspect the work, and get several estimates first. I checked this company out on Angie's List, and they had positive reviews, although none of the jobs had a price tag anywhere near what we paid. This project was more extensive than what other reviewers described. The realtor also recommended them. Steve did seem very knowledgable about mold, and seemed like a nice likeable guy. Another contractor had suggested a much cheaper, and less extensive fix, but Steve's plan seemed more thorough. As we both have allergies, it seemed like the better option. We were not allowed to be in the house for the initial phase of the work, while it was sealed up. The removal of the carpet, drywall and insulation seemed to go fine. The replaced drywall is the green colored anti-mold type. There were two small areas in the basement with sheet vinyl flooring, which appear to have mold at the edges against the basement walls (discolored areas underneath), but the vinyl flooring is still there. They removed a portion of the bottom (floor) of the kitchen sink cabinet, and painted that area. Replacing the cabinet floor was not included. We were there for a portion of the third day and did observe some of the wipe-down and final clean up of the job going on. The 'wipe down' involved dipping a rag in a bucked of mold-killing solution. We did see some of this going on. We paid the bill, in full. This was really our own fault, as under the contract the final third wasn't due until after the post-test results. Live and learn. As we moved in on 12/31 we started to unpack and discovered that about half of the cabinets in the kitchen were not touched. The same crumbs, spills and bits of trash that had been in the cabinets before were still there. Bathroom cabinetry also had spills and debris on the inside. Some fixed shelves, and light fixtures were still dusty. The moldicide solution left a visible film on the mirrors and other shiny surfaces. We understand that the point of this wipe-down wasn't cleaning, but to treat for mold. However, you can't wipe a surface with a damp rag and not move the crumbs or the dust around some. And this was only a day or two later, so it wasn't new dust and crumbs. At this point, it was New Years Day 2010, and we needed to settle in and be back at work on Monday. We spent much of the weekend going over all the cabinets, counters, shelves, floors, etc. with bleach solution before we could start to unpack. In some areas it was very obvious that they had not been wiped, but in spots that weren't very dirty in the first place, there was really no way to tell for sure. Did they really wipe down all the walls? There is alot of wallpaper in house, and white paint. I don't see the filmy marks, and I do see some dirty spots, but really there is no way to tell for sure. Steve did the post-test the day after the work was completed, and the mold levels did drop pretty dramatically, and were similar to the outside air. When I complained, Steve's response was they had made an extraordinary effort given the time constraints. So perhaps there was a communication issue between Steve and the office staff, but he didn't ask for more time at the time. He didn't offer to re-do that portion of the work or make other adjustments. They did send us a bill for another almost $1000 for the radon system, which we have not paid and don't plan to. The post-test sample was collected the morning after the work was finished, and results were fine, even given that this 'wipe down' portion of the work was kind of hit and miss. So now we're wondering if maybe it wasn't really necessary in the first place, and wondering why we paid for it. The person who did the initial home inspection had suggested, indirectly, that Harford Radon was over-priced, and maybe we should have listened to him. In hindsight, we should have asked that the post testing be done a few weeks later, since with the work going on, the fans, the doors open constantly, the outside air and the inside air would have been pretty much the same at that point. On damp days, I still smell a moldy odor in a few places, especially the basement. The price for the radon system does seem in-line with other places, so for that or for a much smaller job/less expensive job, or just testing, this company may be fine to use.
Description of Work: We were purchasing a home and Steve from Harford Radon did mold testing prior to the purchase. The house had mold on surfaces and carpet in the basement, which tested with the highest levels, mold in kitchen cabinet under a leaky sink, and the air had mold, so it was in the vent system. The house had been vacant and closed up for several years, with minimal heat and a/c. The basement has a finished area and an unfinished area. Harford Radon removed the moldy carpet in the finished portion of the basement, the bottom of the basement drywall in the finished area, and moldy insulation in the unfinished area of the basement ceiling. They sealed the basement off while removing all this, and used fans to pull the moldy air out of the house and prevent the stirred-up mold from spreading inside the house. They replaced the missing drywall (bottom foot or so) with anti-mold drywall and sprayed the new green drywall, the bottom of the studs and the open ceiling joists with mold resistant paint. They removed some old shelving and drapes. They had a dumpster to take all this away. They removed the moldy portion of one kitchen cabinet, and spray painted that area. They hepa-vac'd the remaining carpet and were supposed to wipe down all the surfaces - walls, floors, cabinets, including the inside of cabinetry, etc in the house with moldicide. Replacing the flooring and the insulation was not included. The plan included recommendations to fix some grading issues around the house, and to add ductwork to improve ventillation, but that was not included in the price. Re-testing the air for mold after the work was included. The work was done after we settled on the house but before we moved in. They also installed a radon system, but this was not included in this price. This was over the Christmas holidays, and scheduling was difficult. The person in the office at Harford Radon said they'd need three days (that's $5000 per day) to finish the work, so we planned accordingly and scheduled movers for New Year's Eve, based on that estimate.

My wife had been having serious headaches and subsequently found some mold in one of our bedrooms. It was caused by some a leaking roof get a collection of old books. Some of the books were damaged, which was angering, but it was the mold which caught our attention. The father/son duo from Harford Radon were very professional and detailed in their inspection. With many years of experience, they are capable of personally sensing the presence of common molds and fungi. After going into the attic to search out any evidence of mold/mildew, they concluded that there was none -- just what was visible. I would say they were here for nearly an hour. They were very thorough in questioning me on all aspects of our house (HVAC, water damage, previous mold), our health (my wife has allergies) and our jobs (my wife works at a craft store). It turned out that the allergic reactions my wife had been having wasn't due to a little mold in our house but a very large mold infestation at her work. Further, her job at the crafts store exposes her to high volumes of VOCs which can make her feel miserable as the day goes on. It was an educational visit and reassuring that our touch of mold was really no concern. They did treat the mold, but further testing was not necessary. I thought the price was a little high, but can you put a price on the health of your family?
Description of Work: Assessed mold situation in bedroom, caused by rainwater damage (leaky roof); educated us on types of mold, causes of allergic reactions and demonstrated their experience; determined that small bit of mold was no concern, but that my wife should look into mold and VOCs at her work (craft store); satisfied and relieved.

I felt they did a very good job. They showed up on time and did exactly what they promised. They made several helpful hints about preventing mold issues. They identified potential problem areas. Ultimately, they found no airborne problems and one location of non-airborne mold but did not pressure us to hire them for remediation.

Both Mike and Steve were very knowledgeable and courteous. They were on time for their quote and the schedule work. They worked hard and fast. I was pleased with how the installed system looked. We are still waiting on the test results to see if that system is effective enough. We choose them because they offered a tiered payment approach. I.e. they put in a 3 suction system. for $1500, if that is not enough they will come back and put in 2 more suction points and another fan for $1000. As opposed to other quotes who would just put in 3-4 suction points and 1 fan for $2300. This way we have a shot at a less expensive option.
Description of Work: They installed a radon mitigation system with 3 sub-slab suction points and a fan. They did all the drilling and sealing themselves. They resealed the drill points. The PVC piping was attached securely to the basement ceiling and to the siding outside. They were careful to find a path through the basement and outside that was most descreet while still maintinaing EPA standards.
