Jeff Fisher was one of 3 contractors to give me an estimate on replacing the 3 very large double-hung windows in my newly-purchased condo. The bottom sashes in all 3 windows have to be made of tempered glass to meet building code. Mr. Fisher showed up prompt to his appointment, explained clearly why he preferred to use Harvey windows, and seemed highly knowledgeable, experienced, and efficient. I want energy-efficient windows both for my own comfort and to apply for the federal tax credit on energy-efficient window replacement. (All new windows carry stickers showing their U-factor etc. rating for energy efficiency, and the stickers have to show ratings below a certain number to qualify for the tax credit.) Mr. Fisher said he wasn't sure if Harvey windows made with tempered glass had been tested yet for energy efficiency congruent with the tax credit requirements. He called the company on the spot to ask about this -- left a message and told me he'd give me the answer as soon as Harvey got back to him. He then added, without prompting from me, "But I have a few extra stickers that I can give you to stick on the windows so you can claim the tax credit anyway." I didn't like being offered the means to lie and cheat on the tax credit. I frowned and shook my head, and we went on talking about windows and taking measurements. Mr. Fisher's estimate for purchase and installation of 3 Harvey commercial-grade vinyl replacement windows was higher than the other two estimates but within what I considered reasonable range. I said I would be interested in pursuing the installation as long as he could ensure that Harvey windows made with tempered glass would qualify for the federal tax credit. Mr. Fisher promised he'd let me know as soon as he heard back from Harvey and then, while writing up the estimate, he said, again without any prompting from me, "And, like I said, I install about 5,000 windows a year and of course some of those, maybe 50, are flawed so I have to send them back to the factory, but I keep the stickers, so if you want a couple of extra stickers, you know, to stick on the windows so you can claim the tax credit, I can give those to you as well." I really, REALLY didn't like this -- it was bad enough that he made this dishonest offer even once, let alone twice -- so I frowned again and said "I don't want to go there." He dropped the subject. Winding down our meeting, while we were talking about the installation process, Mr. Fisher said he didn't think it would be necessary to pull a Cambridge city permit for replacing my windows since I live on a quiet residential street, and he could complete the window installation in less than a day. So, he said, probably "no one would notice," that the work was being done and ask to see the permit. Even I, as a new home owner, know that city permits for such work are required by law. (In fact, my current windows don't meeting building code now probably because they were installed without a permit in the first place.) So in less than an hour, Mr. Fisher offered three different times, unprompted, ways to cheat on legal standards and requirements for the federal tax credit and for the installation work itself. Mr. Fisher did follow up to tell me that he heard from Harvey that their replacement windows made with tempered glass do meet standards for the federal tax credit. Whether or not this is true, I have no desire to employ ProWindows for my window replacements.
Description of Work: Jeff Fisher of ProWindows Replacement Windows seems highly knowledgeable and efficient; he is eager to please his customers and to serve them well. He gave a slightly higher, though reasonable, estimate for replacing the windows in my condo. And he offered twice, unprompted by me, a means to lie about the quality of his replacement windows in order to cheat on the federal tax credit. He also offered to "save me money" by not pulling a city permit for the work of replacing the windows, as required by law. These dishonest and unwelcome offers made me extremely uncomfortable and I chose not to follow up with him on the estimate. I have chosen to work with a different contractor who didn't breathe a possibility of cheating on the federal tax credit and who took it for granted that he'd have to pull a legal city permit to do the work of installing my replacement windows.

Whew... that was a tough one to read. Sometimes I love this list... and other times it can open you up to a lot of criticism. I did see this customer about 3 very large windows in Cambridge. They were floor to ceiling windows and needed to have tempered glass to meet the code. I had been told by Harvey Building Products that their tempered products do not qualify. Technically the top sash does qualify, but the bottom sash that needs to be tempered is made by and outside glass company, and for some reason their products don't qualify. I must have made about 10 calls to the factory, and many calls to the manufacturing department... and finally Harvey found a vendor to make the glass that qualified. I did call this customer back to let her know... but had not heard back. I do my best to offer my customers quality service and professionalism... and sometimes that can be misconstrued. Some people want me to pull permits, some ask me not to... and yes a permit is required. I am an honest person... and I try to run my company that way... I am fully licensed and insured and we use energy compliant windows. We offer lifetime labor warranties... lifetime glass breakage... and I don't sleep if I feel like someone is not happy with us. I am certainly not feeling good about this report, but I will say that I still respect the way I run the company. Many of the members on the list tell me not to worry about some of the negative reports... I try not to. I offer to pull permits for every job... and I stand behind all that we do. Occasionally I try to help people too much... I will just keep trying to figure out what works best.

Gave his opinion that our 100 + year old windows were worth holding onto, and recommended companies/people who could do the restoration work required. Very informative, helpful and professional. Would definitely use his services if we needed a replacement window.

In December 2008 we had Jeff come out to give us a quote on replacing our storm windows. He was very knowledgeable and explained that given the quality of our windows it might be a better value to replace the windows altogether. He gave us a quote for both replacing the windows as well as storm windows. The quote was pretty good but still more than what we were able to spend at that time so we decided to put everything on hold. At the beginning of September, we contacted him again to get an updated quote as we were finally ready to go ahead and do the work. In addition to the windows we also wanted to get a quote for a storm door and an exterior basement door. Jeff responded quickly saying that in order to give us a quote he needed to come out again and asked when would be a good time. I responded the same day letting him know that I was on vacation and that any day would work and that he should call me. I am still waiting. We in the meantime have decided to go with another company that offered equal quality windows, are very professional and responsive at a very good price.

I did respond to this customer and have the measure sheets on my desk and copies in a folder that I carry with me that says ReMeasures. I was waiting for a response from them as to the time that could be set up to review the quote and add the storm door. I don't book my own appointments and occasionally we do miss a call, but in general we try to keep in touch with everyone. I will call this customer and apologize and try to figure out what happened. Spam filters can sometimes explain things. I am very surprised to get such bad grades... especially when I remember everything that happened... and was waiting to set up a follow up appointment. If someone does not respond to me for a couple of days I usually figure they may have gotten busy... or possibly they forgot to call back. So I touch base again. I really don't understand why this customer did not simply call or email again. I am certainly someone that cares a lot about my business, my customers, my employees and my family. Not necessarily in that order. The people on the list who use us know this much about Prowindows.

We contacted the company for a quote on replacement windows, having already decided we wanted Harvey. Jeff, the owner, came out, measured our windows, and was able to quote us on the spot. I appreciated the fact that Jeff did not use the "hard sell" sales tactics so common with other replacement window companies; he merely gave us the relevant information on the product, and a price. His pricing was right in the ballpark with other companies, but I felt his transferable warranty added extra value. His crew showed up on time, were extremely polite and helpful; they were able to install all 14 windows in under six hours, which meant less disruption for our family. They left the rooms spotless, which amazed me considering the amount of work they did. Overall, we had a great experience, and would recommend them to anyone.

Once again I appreciate all the kind words from the Angie's List members. We do our best at all times to have great reports like this and the constant feedback has been very helpful at company meetings and in setting new company goals. We always try to communicate as well as possible. This is a tough business in that there are lots of schedules to juggle... from the homeowner, to the office... to the manufacturers and our own installers. We are always changing on the fly... I also try to put a copy of each report in the installers files/weekly checks. This helps them with direct feedback, which is mostly the Angie's list reports. Most people that we meet are looking for an honest company that does good work at a fair price. Value for the money... that is always my goal. I will keep working to make things run smoother and keep the happy customers coming. Jeff Fisher, Owner Prowindows.

ProWindows replaced three windows in our home. The old windows had rotten frames. ProWindows came on time and did a good job. They cleaned up when they finished. They were supposed to replace all three windows in one day however when they came the first day they removed all three windows prior to checking that the new windows were the right size. The new kitchen window was the wrong size so they had to put back the old window but they had damaged it so they had to jury rig and use one of the old windows from the living room. It was not a pretty site. They ordered a new window for the kitchen which took about five weeks to get because the new windows were Anderson "new" contruction windows. When they got the new kitchen window they came promptly and finished the job. I suggested to the installers that they should check that the new windows are the correct size before taking out the old windows. All in all is was a good experience.

I called for an estimate & Jeff came to the house a few days later. He said he needed to research what would work best for the windows I wanted to replace. After several weeks of silence, I called the office to remind Donna that he had promised to get back to me. She said she would remind him. It has now been 3 months, & Jeff has never followed up. As far as I'm concerned, the ship has sailed on this company.

I did go out to this job and I can't find the paperwork that I generally write a quote on. This would be my measure sheet. I do remember that this was a complicated oval porch structure that required a lot of carpentry and finagling of the current window system. Current windows were oval shaped at the top... called ellipticals. I did send a request to Marvin for the pricing... I remember I was planning to reframe them to rectangular windows. Very sorry if something fell thru the cracks. Every six months or so, I get too busy for my own good. I do try to get back to everyone.

The estimate was the lowest by far. They were punctual, left the rooms very clean even when we couldn't move furniture out of the way. The job took only 4 1/2 hours with replacing rotted sills. We are very happy with the windows. The acoustic windows make the room significantly quieter. We are looking forward to warmer winter nights as well. We will call again to replace more windows and doors.

Great experience - start to finish, I received a call back right away and scheduled to get an estimate. He met with my mother and then emailed me suggestions. I met with Jeff at his office and signed a contract. The intallers were great - professional efficient. A screen was damaged and they brought a new one the next day. They took the time to explain how the windows work, They even let me know that I had a wasp nest in the bushes.

The whole thing was great. Fast, no issues. The installation guys were extremely pleasant and helpful. Somewhere in the paperwork I think it says they put the curtains back up. When I asked the guys about this they explained this was not the case. They were very apologetic and even helped me put back a big curtain rod. They put some of them back up anyway. They left the house clean and neat, and the windows really enhance the house.
Description of Work: Jeff came out, we discussed what windows I wanted. He was very patient in going over choices and prices. He generated an estimate right then and there. Jeff and his team did an excellent job from start to finish. The sales process was straighforward and took all of about 30 minutes while the manufacturer's sales pitch lasts >2hrs. His installation team installed 23 windows over two days with minimum trace that work had been done other than the existence of the manufacturer's stickers on the new windows that had been installed. Very pleased with the experience.

After all the bad contractors we've had over the years, Prowindows was a breath of fresh air. Jeff was friendly, straight forward, and a complete professional. He gave us an accurate time frame for when our windows would be ready for installation. His crew was friendly, fast, and accommodating. They also literally left the place cleaner than it was when they showed up. It took them a day and a half to complete the installation. The office was absolutely helpful and friendly about getting me some information I forgot to gather during the installation so that I could file for an Energy Star rebate with our power company. They even send me a personally signed thank you card after everything was completed. Amazing. I cannot recommend these guys enough. This was the most hassle-free home renovation project I have ever encountered by a MILE.

I received a telephone call within hours of my contacting them by email. In order to accommodate my schedule, Jeff came over at 7:30 on a Monday morning. He listened to what I needed, made some suggestions, and we came to an easy agreement on the windows that would best satisfy my needs. I had a couple of conversations with Bob about how best to arrange coordination with my security system people to disconnect and then reconnect the alarms. Dave arrived exactly when he was scheduled to arrive and did a terrific job of removing the old windows and installing the new ones. He removed all the debris and cleaned up when he was finished. I am absolutely delighted with every aspect of the job performed and with all the interactions with Jeff and his staff. They made it easy and very pleasant.

At first, I visited the Pella and Andersen showrooms and had Pella give me an estimate for the job. Though I liked some of their windows, they seemed expensive. Then I joined Angie's List and read the great reviews that ProWindows had. Jeff (the owner) came to the house and struck me as an honest person that really cared about his business and customers. I liked the fact that he sold several brands of windows and thus was able to recommend a product that was right for me. His price was just a little higher than the Harvey Classic windows I had installed in 2004 (but the same windows are now more energy efficient). The windows arrived when promised and they showed up to install the windows as scheduled. Derrick and Jeff (not the owner) completed the installation in 2.5 days and they were courteous, professional, and neat. I was very pleased with this company and would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Replaced 27 windows, 5 of which were in an enclosed porch and required additional carpentry. Old windows were either originals from 1896 or poorly installed and warped Home Depot vinyl windows from 2000. ProWindows installed Harvey Classic vinyl windows as recommended for my price range and desire for easy cleaning. I have them on the upper floor and have been happy with them so far.

Very professional estimate, very helpful. This was a small job so a young 2-man crew completed the install in 2 hours. They did everything very well and cleaned up after themselves. Only point of criticism was that I had to ask for the warranty sheet and the rebate forms afterwards, but that's really a minor point. I would definitely use the same company again.

From start to finish, ProWindows treated us professionally. Pro Windows was one of three bids we received for the job. While theirs was the highest bid, we knew that there would be complications due to the construction of our house (we don't have traditional framed windows; the siding covers the window frames). Jeff clearly was aware of these issues and and worked them into his bid. The other contractors did not appear to understand the issues involved. Based on our research, the price per window was still on the low end for the windows we picked. After agreeing on the initial price, we discussed a few minor changes which we were treated more than fairly on. Jeff spent considerably more time with us than the others discussing the pros and cons of particular choices of windows and additional features (we elected storm windows for our bedroom to further cut down on street noise, for example). His statements matched our outside research. The installation itself was done with the best quality and workmanship. Jeff sent out two crews to ensure that the core of the work would be completed in one week, at our request, and the work was indeed completed on time. All members of the crew were friendly throughout and clearly enjoyed working for ProWindows. We would not hesitate to use this company again and enthusiastically recommend them.

It seemed straightforward, but there was some damage to the trim of one window and another window was damaged when it came it so they had to come back. Jeff ended up doing the work on the trim himself since the other guy who came back to put in the damaged window didn't particularly try to repair the damaged trim. THIS JOB WENT SMOOTHLY EXCEPT FOR A SMALL BIT OF WOOD THAT THE PAINT FELL OFF. WE DID NEED TO COME BACK AS ONE WINDOW CAME IN DAMAGED... AND I DID END UP GOING BACK MYSELF AS THE TRIM THAT WAS DAMAGED NEEDED ONLY A BIT OF FILLER. MOST OF THE TRIM IN THE HOUSE WAS IN POOR CONDITION PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE WINDOWS... SO THE DAMAGE WAS NOT MAJOR. I ALWAYS DO MY BEST TO SATISFY EVERY CUSTOMER, AND OCCASIONALLY THE JOB TAKES A BIT MORE TIME DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCE. TIME OF YEAR, WEATHER CONDITIONS... AND OTHER FACTORS SOMETIMES CANNOT BE CONTROLLED. I'M LEARNING TO IMPROVE WITH EVERY REPORT, SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THE MEMBER FEEDBACK, BOTH GOOD AND SOMETIMES (RARELY) NOT SO GOOD.

I made contacted 5 different contractors to get an estimate for the work I needed done. Jeff was the only one that was able to supply me with an detailed and accurate quote. He followed up and completed all the work in the time frame that he committed to. The work that was completed by a very neat and professional crew.
Description of Work: Removed old double sash windows and installed replacement windows.

Jeff Fisher was very professional. He spoke a bit about his products - no pressure, measured the windows, pulled out his laptop and printer, and provided a quote in less than an hour. He even provided information on rebates that I could receive from the manufacturer. The installation crews were very friendly, great workers, they took great care in my home and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. The office staff was friendly and accommodating, as well. The job took a little longer than I expected, but it's a very old house with very large windows. I am very satisfied and will highly recommend ProWindows.
Description of Work: Replaced 40 windows in 100+ year old house with double-hung Energy Star rated low E/argon gas filled windows with full screens.
