I would say typical contractor delays in getting back to you. Not terrible but not great: Contractor on 5/9 "We can fit your steps as soon as next week. I will be in touch with you once we are close to come over." Me on 5/15: "Hi Eder, any word on a date. Will definitely do the chimney after it is supported. Do you have any pics along the lines we discussed?" Contractor on 5/16: "Chris,Sorryfor the delay in getting back to you. We have been backed up the last couple of weeks due to rain, but do expect to be able to get to you on monday or tuesday next week, again this rain has really backed us up.I am looking in our files to find some pictures of similar work for your fireplace.Best. " Like I said typical but not too bad. Eder is a nice guy, I liked him. The work was pretty good, I am satisfied. I also asked for pictures of some chimney work they have done (inside, decorative) never got any pics.
Description of Work: Bricks coming off of my front steps. Fixed the steps.

My experience with Eder Bautista and his entire team was a pleasure from start to finish. Eder responded to my call promptly and met me at my house to discuss the job. While showing him the job Eder explained to me that there were two possible remedies for my problem. One was to rip out the entire floor of the deck and pour a new floor after making sure all the filling under the deck was compact, reducing the possibility of further settling and floor cracks in the future. The alternative would be to fill in the cracks and skim coat the entire area, giving it a new look at a much lower cost. Eder agreed to give me a cost estimate on both options, which he provided in a day or so. He did not push me in either direction and listened to my needs and gave me the pros and cons of each option. I ended up choosing the less expensive option (filling and skim coating). Eder's team showed up on the day the job was scheduled. They originally thought the job could be done in one day but when they showed up and got started they said they might need part of a second day in order to do the job correctly, which was fine by me since the most important thing is to get it done right. The entire Bautista team was professional, courteous, and respectful of my property. The porch looks fabulous and the team cleaned up when they were done. I would recommend them to anyone, and in fact am planning to hire them for another project at a rental property I own.
Description of Work: My concrete front porch floor and walls were cracking and crumbling after many years of quick patching and/or ignoring the problem. Bautista filled in all of the cracks and applied a skim coat over the entire area, giving it a like new appearance.

Eder responded promptly and visited the next week. His written proposal, received the same day as his visit, was based on repairing the stairs using the existing sub-structure if possible. If it became necessary to demolish the existing steps and re-construct them that work would be extra. He said they would be able to do the work immediately. The crew arrived the next morning, removed the granite blocks and cleaned and inspected the rubble substructure. The structure and foundation appeared to be in stable condition. The filled all voids and replaced the granite blocks in their proper positions. The repairs were completed professionally and the final dressing of the mortar was well done. All of the work was completed by early afternoon, and the stairs were returned to service the next day. Stairs constructed of quarry-cut granite slabs, once common in New England, are becomming unusual. I was glad to be able to return these stairs to their original condition with minimal disruption.
Description of Work: The main front entrance to our home includes stairs from the sidewalk down to the yard. They are mortared stone structures with five risers and treads made of 5” thick granite blocks. Over time the mortar beneath the stone steps had deteriorated and the granite blocks were loose. The project included removing the granite blocks, inspecting and stabilizing the stone substructure, and re-laying the existing stone with fresh mortar. From all appearances the foundation was solid, since the stairs had not moved in the 50+ years they have existed, however the condition of the stone rubble substructure was unknown.

Don't ask anything twice no matter how reasonable or innocent it seems or risk upsetting him.
Description of Work: The owner came and was very likeable and pleasant. I needed a retaining wall rebuilt that had fallen over. When he came, we reviewed all details and options and exchanged a # of emails which included a quote. I then visited 2 job sites where similar walls were being built and felt we had pretty much nailed down the deal. So far, the experience seemed great and was very happy with the contractor. Suddenly, when I was about to sign a contract and send a depost, he stopped responding to me. I never heard back. No returned calls or emails. Why aren't we talking anymore and is this an appropriate way to handle a customer? Was he sick? Busy? Should I wait? I had a hard time getting my head around this feeling confused. At this point, bewildered, gave a lot of thought as to why suddenly so uninterested and unprofessional. The only reason that I can think of was that I asked a question twice. Shoot me! Nothing else seemed wrong but I'll never know since he refused to converse or write me. I'm very easy going, and not at all pushy or unreasonable. I am interested in the completed project and wanted to express my thoughts. When orignally talking about details asked if he could match the stone to the brick house and/or mortar prefering grays/blues/beiges/tans in the stone over orangy colors that clash. He explained that he didn't have control of the quary's product. I understood. No problem. After visiting 2 current projects noticed that one wall was orange and the other my colors of choice. When I got home sent an email asking IF it were 2 different quaries, maybe he could order from the same one that produced the gray/tan/blue tones with the hopes that they will again duplicate those colors. No response. Really? I only asked a question. I was really disappointed and strangely, hurt by it.. All he had to do was remind me that the original conversation still stands or explain the stones where from the same quary but different colors. It would not have been a problem for me at all and was a shock to have him respond so badly. Again, I only asked a question. I was VERY disappointed in how he handled this.

I got Eder Bautista's number from a neighbor who had been in the contracting business for a while. Eder was prompt to respond to my call and sent me a quote by email very quickly. His price was quite reasonable considering the amount of masonry work necessary. The existing fieldstone bulkhead foundation was falling apart and not long enough for the new doors. He replaced just about all of the above-grade portion of the foundation while making it large enough for the new doors. He also installed a keyed lock so I could enter the basement from outside without having to go through the house. It was done in a couple of days and the water problems we'd had in that area during the winter stopped entirely.

Response from Bautista ws quick and professional. Family business that have a lot of pride in the work they do. Stated the job on time, and went right to work. Answered my questions and concerns along the way, and did a very professional job. They reused existing wrought iron railing, saving me added expense, and finishing the whole job off quickly and to my satisfaction. Reset of pavers make them look brand new. I could not have asked for more. Very satisfied.
Description of Work: Front brick stairs were decayed and in need of a face lift. Also, pavers leading up to stairs needed to be reset due to heaving over time. Bautista removed stairs down to solid base, and incorporated fieldstone on sides and front to match other aspects of house (retaining wall and other stairway). Topped off with granite treads that really show off house.

There was not work done. Can't do the work if you don't return phone calls.
Description of Work: I called twice and left very clear and precise voice mail messages. I explained I needed an opening in a brick wall in the kitchen enlarged to hold a new wall oven. NO ONE EVER called back. I get so tired of trades people who don't have the courtesy to return a call, much less two phone calls even if it's to say they don' t do that kind of work. They did a great job and were responsive when I asked them to come back and fix one step where the mortar had cracked. The mason was a true professional and worked until he thought it looked right - and it did. This is an interim step as the steps and walkway eventually need to be replaced, but they have given me a few extra years of time at least.

Eder's guys came out quickly and installed the walkway in just about 3 days. Quality was good, although the sand they used to seal cracks was not the best as it was all washed away. Should have asked for other sealing sands that wouldn't wash away so easily. Professionalism was great at getting quote, and his crew was reasonably easy to work with, however I had to ask them to come back to clean away excess sand and return other paver blocks that they took away by mistake. I would consider them again for future jobs, but may need them to inspect current work in the spring if the washed away sand causes pavers to move.
Description of Work: Was responsive and accessible by email to carry out a standard pavers extension of a walkway. Gave the best price estimate and was not like other companies that claimed our job was "too small" .

We got estimates from 5 companies. Eder Bautista was easy to work with, was very professional and promptly returned my phone calls. Their initial estimate was made in a timely manner and once the HOA made the decision to use them, they started work in just 3 days, which included a weekend. We paid half the total due when work started and the balance when work was completed. The two man crew they sent worked hard all day. Whenever we found an area that we thought could use attention, they took care of it without complaint; very easy to work with. They did a good job, on schedule and for the agreed upon cost. We would certainly use them again and would recommend them to you as well.
Description of Work: Bautista performed masonry repairs on our 1899 3 story brownstone in South Boston. We were getting water into our building during North Eastern storms which we attributed to gaps in our exterior brick work. Using a rented lift, they used electric grinders to clear out old mortar and refilled the gaps with fresh mortar. It was a time consuming process as they would first grind out the mortar on a wall, top to bottom, then go back to the top to spray the wall with water to clear the residue. Finally, they worked the wall again to fill the gaps with fresh mortar. This process was performed on all our exterior walls. It took them 6 days to complete the work, which was one day longer than initially estimated. They worked each day they said they would and worked according to the schedule we discussed. Our HOA, which has 3 owners, was well satisfied with their work.

Perfect. They were affordable and focused on what I wanted.
Description of Work: Bautista leveled and laid down concrete pavers in a small back yard. They designed a pattern that worked with tree roots, and worked with pea stone on the remainder. They were very focused on getting to a workable solution rather than the most expensive solution, which given the restraints on the project, made sense.

Got 6 quotes on replacing the front steps on my two family house and Bautista was the lowest. After much research and learning about how granite steps are built I decided to go with Bautista. After a few questions via email, (it did take him a few days to get back to me), we set a date to do the job. He showed up on that date, did the job in the 3 days he said it would take (although the railings took an extra week because they had to be made) and it came out terrific. Can't really comment on quality. Just hoping they last a long time. He also honored his 5% Angies List discount.

When the old steps were removed, there was wood rot revealed which needed to be addressed before the new steps could go in place. Eder was able to complete the demolition and then shift to another job for a few days while I got those repairs done. He then returned as soon as I was ready and completed the job. Their work was excellent, and I am very pleased with the results. They left the site clean and removed all debris. I highly recommend Bautista masonry, and would use them again.
Description of Work: Eder and his crew completely removed and replaced two sets of brick and bluestone steps at our home, for the front and side entrances. They were able to match the brick on the front of the house beautifully, and were careful to provide a slight pitch to ensure runoff is away from the house.

Within six weeks of the installation the bottom of the railings that are in cement and also the ones that sit on the granite began to rust. I contacted Eder who was in charge of the project to come out and look at the railings. Eder came out and let me know that there was nothing he could do unless I was willing to pay more money for labor, gas, and supplies. I had two different masonry companies look at the stairs and they told me that they should never rust if the rails were scraped down properly and the correct cement and paint were used. There was a lot of defensiveness, poor customer service, and no resolution with the project. I have a 3 year warranty and he is not willing do complete the work based on the warranty because he stated that they did the job correctly. I would like to this project to be done correctly with no arguments or excuses. UPDATE Today. 10/23/12 the railings were sanded down where they had rusted and repainted. All of the rust on the railings was removed. The overall project was well done and the brick and masonry work was excellent. My issue was just with the railings rusting. I am hopeful that given that we have both taken photos of the rust and know where it was, that it will not come back and this problem will be resolved.I would hire this company again as their masonry work is excellent. Just wanted all aspects of the job to be as perfect as possible. I trust also that our relationship has been restored as I do recommend the quality work of this company. I am very pleased with how it looks right now, including the railings.

Response from BAUTISTA MASONRY CORP.
We’re happy to hear that you have no complaints about the brick and granite steps, however we are disappointed to not receive any positive feedback for our quality work. In regards to the railings, the agreement was that the old railings would be removed, painted and reinstalled. We suggested new railings be installed due to the condition of the railings but this option was not in your budget, and you opted to reuse the old railings. We did the best we could considering the circumstances, and we are sorry that you are not happy but there isn’t much that can be done. Our method is to wire brush, sand or sometimes even grind down existing rust, and then re-paint them using rustoleum outdoor spray paint. This is common practice for us and we have yet to recieve such negative feedback on the finished product. You can have the railings re-sanded and re-painted but they will eventually continue to rust, and unfortunately we cannot return each time rust becomes evident. We are very happy to provide this service to our valued customers and will continue to do so as we have a proven track record of success.

Bautista masonry's prices were competitive (one of, if not the lowest prices). Given that they had great reviews on Angieslist, I went with them and was not disappointed. Eder comes out to give the estimates, but it was his relative Julio and another guy that did the work. While doing the work, we had noticed that some of the flashing on the window sill was pitched "back" and not "forward" so that when it rained, the water will just sit on the sill and not roll off the sill. They said it would be $50 to fix each sill, and I agreed to it. Eder initially said he thought 8 of the windows might have needed this fix. At the end of the project, only 5 needed the work. They also charged $30 per window to recaulk two basement windows that were not on the original proposal. Julio was doing most of the work recaulking windows. I checked each window from the inside and had to send him back up the ladder a few times because he missed a few spots. He didn't complain or give attitude, which is good. But then again I don't think he could justify any complaint. If he missed a few spots, he has to fix them. The only complaint I have is really about myself. I should have been more careful and made sure the proposal was more specific. I thought I had asked them to apply silox to the foundation (and not just the brick) of two of the walls of the house, but after talking to Eder he informed me I had only asked for silox on the brick. I had talked to other contractors about putting silox on the foundation, so I think I got the two mixed up. This is by no means a complaint about Eder or Bautista Masonry.... just a note to myself to notice and to ask for more details on proposals. This would be a suggestion to everyone reading this...
Description of Work: I needed someone to:1) do minor repointing of brick around the house2) apply silox to two sides of the house because we had signs of water damage in three 2nd floor bedroom windows3) apply caulk to all windows of the home
