I worked with YGC twice. A year ago, they put in landscaping/shrubs at the back of our property and fixed our yard/grass. We made an appointment and I switched my work schedule to accommodate it, but they didn't show. I got a call later that day. Then a few days later, they showed up unannounced to do the work. The work itself was fine. So I let it go. Last week, I got a quote from them to remove a big yucca plant and I approved it and asked to set up a time to do it. A couple weeks later, again they showed up unannounced, walking around in my back yard ready to do the work. Without telling me they were coming. And they didn't even ring the doorbell. This is odd and unprofessional. So in summary, their work is good but their communication is perplexing and bad. I would not hire them again, because I think it is unprofessional not to tell a client when you are coming to do the work.
Description of Work: 1) Landscaping, plant 7 shrubs, fix yard/grass 2) Remove big yucca plant

Once we got on the schedule, the work went great. They showed up while we were at work and completed the job promptly. They cleaned up after themselves and left a great looking garden. They also followed up to make sure we understood watering instructions. The only down side is trying to get on their schedule, which can take some time.
Description of Work: Planted 18 flowering perennials and 2 shrubs in front garden and city tree bed. Work included labor, soil amendments, plants and disposal fees.

Robert and crew were awesome about adapting to difficult site conditions: there was hidden ledge that made original plans unworkable. They took my suggestions, but also came up with a lot of good ideas on their own. Some adjectives: thorough, creative, organized, careful.
Description of Work: Demo'd and removed existing asphalt ramp. Constructed a set of steps out of landscape timber, with two areas of irregular stone surface fit to timber platform. Supplied 4-6 yards of topsoil.

Robert did a small job leveling some space in Dec. and a bit of pruning. The work was high quality and the price reasonable. But when I hired them to do more extensive pruning this summer, the experience was very different. After postponing the work, he sent two poorly qualified people who left after doing less than half the pruning. Robert came back a week later, and we went over everything. But he did not stay to supervise and the people he left to do that work did not do a high quality job. They actually pulled up a small herb I had planted that morning to put down flagstone in a place that I had explicitly said it should not go. Mistakes happen, but this was very discouraging.

We had a very positive experience with Robert (owner of Your Garden Curator) and his crew. We received an estimate sometime last summer and had hoped the work would have been done last Fall, but seasonal and other delays forced us to wait until the Spring. Having said that, once the work began we had men on-site for about 3 weeks. They worked long days and were easy to have around. Additionally the men doing the stonework were, in my opinion, artists. They took large, odd shaped bluestones (weighing between 60 and 100 pounds) and put them together like pieces of a puzzle. They always welcomed my input, which I very much appreciated. When the job was completed it surpassed my expectations. I look forward to continuing to work with them in the Fall and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They removed a large red brick patio and replaced it with a bluestone patio with paths leading to and from it. In addition, they installed 3 dry-wells and created a side stone pathway. After the work was completed, existing plant materials that had to be moved were relocated and planted. The entire area was mulched and is ready for Fall planting.

The team that serviced our house was absolutely fantastic. From the estimate through the end of the work, Your Garden Curators were professional, punctual, and courteous. They understood our budget limitations and worked with us to ensure that the items highest on our priority list got done first. They even hauled away the broken fountain and a dozen hideous garden statues left over from the last owner. They were able to fit us in quickly, and all of the work was completed in one day by a really impressive trio of guys who included me in any decisions that needed to be made while they worked. I cannot recommend them highly enough!
Description of Work: My husband and I moved into our house about a year and a half ago. At the time we moved in, the front and backyards, as well as the side yards, were meticulously landscaped -- lots of different plants, hedges, fountains, etc. We thought we would enjoy gardening, but as it turns out we both HATED it. Over the course of a year and a half, everything became extremely overgrown and messy and started attracting animals and pests to the yards. We called several places to get a quote on how much it would be to do the bare minimum (we're expecting a child, and money is tight!) - basically to just trim it all back, pull up all weeds and get us back to square one. Your Garden Curator gave us the best quote BY FAR, so we hired them to move forward with the work. The team toiled in our yard for hours and hours on a very hot summer day, never complaining or stopping or slowing down. They pulled up every weed, trimmed and shaped each plant, pulled everything back from the house (including some trees) and laid beautiful new mulch in place of the ugly old stuff.

The work went quickly, on time, and exactly on estimate. In fact Your Garden Curator was able to do the work three weeks earlier than initially scheduled. When the work was finished, Monahan left detailed instructions about watering the tree and the plants and said that we should contact him if we had any further questions.

Communication was good, Robert kept on top of the potential work. He called and followed up with me, he even came to my yard when I wasn't there to give me a rough estimate. We met in person, I changed a few things, and he came back with a new quote within a few hours. I hired him and he began work about 2 - 3 weeks later. The work was fantastic because we had a pretty bad situation. He planted all of the plants that he had listed on his quote, and to be honest I think the planted more than what's listed. Overall I am satisfied but the pessimist in me is worried about the durability of the project. I emailed Robert and asked for advice and how much it would cost for him to come out to maintain it once in awhile. He emailed me back and gave me some solid advice and told me how much it would cost for him to come out once a month. I have attached some before and after pictures. I would hire Robert again, but this time in the backyard.

Prompt response to email. Came to my house slightly late, but I didn't mind. Spent a few minutes discussing projects. I felt very good with this contractor and was looking forward to working with them. They seem very nice and professional. They left and told me at the beginning of the following week (this was on a Thursday or Friday), they'd send me a quote. Unfortunately, I didn't hear from them for nearly a week and a half. When I did hear from them, they just told me they were too busy to do my job and that I lived too far away for them.

I purchased the big deal and got a confirmation. They called back later and cancelled telling me I was too far away (30 minutes). Posted a bad review; Owner has since called, provided explanation, apology and indicates Angies list has the money and I can be refunded. Unfortunate circumstance as the owner seemed concerned. I cannot give a positive review as I did not get the service. Originally ordered spring 2013, owner last contacted me around May of this year to resolve bad review.

See above. Robert Monahan is easy to deal with and makes good suggestions as he does the work. He sticks to his price estimate. and is punctual and friendly.
Description of Work: He and his helper did extensive pruning of the Batlett pear in my front yard so that its branches no longer threatened the power lines for the street and my house. They also pruned branches away from the house next door and the neighbor's driveway. In the back yard, they pruned the weeping willow so more sun could get into the garden. They were fast and efficient and removed all debris and left everything clean and neat.

We arranged for the Big Deal of $99.00 for 150 daffodil bulbs to be planted. When the gardener arrived my husband directed him to plant half beneath the bay window in the front of our house and the other half "beside" our garaage. Well, somehow we had a miscommunication about just what "beside" meant. We wanted them planted at the right front side of the garage and the gardener took us to mean the entire left side of the garage (which indeed is sunnier). After talking it over with Bob we discovered the error in communication and all ended up well.
