My initial call to Crocker was a pleasant one. They understood the scope of work and were willing to travel to my house to perform the work. We scheduled an appointment later in the week to get a detailed estimate. I called the morning of the walk-through to confirm the appointment and I got the impression that they had forgotten about it, but they said they would be there. Hours before the appointment I got a call asking to reschedule the appointment because someone was out of the office. I told them "no" because we did not take possession of the house, and needed to make this appointment with the realtor and current owners. The walk-through went well, they understood exactly what I wanted and even made some good suggestions on how to do the layout/wiring/switches. I then got a written quote via e-mail in a timely manner. I reviewed it and noticed it was not exactly what we had discussed on-site. I called them back, they gave me an e-mail response back with the additional charges (the quote was not re-written or updated). I called to schedule the work 9 days in advance. They said ?no problem?, the electrician will pick up supplies and be there between 9-10AM. 10:30 the day of, no electrician. I called the office; they gave me the name and number of the electrician. I called him; he did not have our job on his schedule. There was a schedule mix up, and he could not come till the following business day (Monday). This was tough because I had painters and flooring people lined up behind him; it pushed everyone out a day. When the electrician arrived, we walked through the scope of work, no problems. Then we looked at the materials he brought, they were wrong. I ordered (and was quoted) 6" fixtures. He brought 7" fixtures. I sent him back to the supply store to get the right parts. I am glad I was there because he probably would have installed the wrong ones. 3 hours later he returns to start the job (now 1:30PM). The electrician looked over the room, marked out the joists and brought me into the room to discuss the layout. Because of the joist placements, we had to modify the original plans. We discussed all our options and came up with a new layout. I really appreciated the electrician walking me through the process and my options. Because this was all done before he cut any holes, it reduced the amount of re-work and patch jobs. The work was to install two rooms of fixtures; the original estimate was to do the work over 1.5-2 days. He had to return a third day to finish up the trim and switches, so almost 2.5 days to do the work. I am happy with the quality of work and the products used and the end product. I appreciated the suggestions and recommendations of both men from Crocker. I was very unhappy about the run-around the day the work was suppose to start. (The office was giving me the numbers to track down their scheduler and electrician. I finally put down my foot and told them, they need to track their own people down and get back to me, I should not be tracking their personnel down.) The total bill was exactly what was quoted, but the delay start and extended work time was frustrating to me and the other contractors working in the house. In the end, I got what I wanted, but not without the headaches and constant monitoring. If you hire Crocker I suggest you call them the day of to confirm every appointment, review the written quote and to review the scope and the materials before the work starts.
Description of Work: I called Crocker's to install recessed lighting in two rooms. This was new fixtures in an existing house. No previous fixtures existed. So they had to cut in order to install fixtures and add switches.
