The Narrow Lane Landscape Company

Seemed like a nice guy, but there was an undertone of proselytizing for his religion. After the appointment, I understood that this is reflected in the name of his company. I find proselytizing for anyone's religion offensive and unprofessional - therefore would not hire him.

We've been working with Ron and his crew for three years now, after first finding him on Angie's List in 2012. That spring, we decided to install a large outdoor hot tub in the back yard, which required significant reworking of some rock walls, installation of a crushed stone pad on which the hot tub sits, and installation of a wooden fence completely surrounding the back yard. The total price for that work was ~$30,000 (I don't remember the exact number - its been awhile). At that time, I interviewed two other landscape design companies, but decided to go with Narrow Lane because Ron really seemed to get what we wanted to do and his prices were reasonable. Although the work in the back yard took longer than we had hoped and there were few issues that came up during the construction process, Ron handled all of our concerns in a very professional manner and we were ultimately very pleased with the result. In the summer of 2013, with a budget of $10,000, Ron turned an ugly unused side yard where we had a significant erosion problem into a beautiful landscape complete with lichen-covered boulders, natural stone steps, numerous bushes, ferns and other plantings. We have had many, many compliments from the neighbors about how good this looks! At that time, we also hired Narrow Lane to maintain our property, and we have been generally pleased with their services. This spring and summer, Ron and his crew will be repairing the crumbling stone steps leading up to our front door (~$4,000 estimate) and hopefully installing some more landscaping in the back yard. Needless to say, we really like Ron and his crew!

Our yard was a complete mess as we hadn't done much of a fall clean up. The Narrow Lane people came in and cleaned up the mess, edged all the borders and filled all the landscaping with mulch. The cost seemed high but we live on a hill and mulching is truly a chore we are never able to complete on our own. There were 3 guys and the job took them the entire day. The work they did truly exceeded my expectations as they put mulch down in areas that a previous provider hadn't bothered with. They also put a nice clean edge on the border, we hadn't even discussed that so I wasn't expecting it and it made our yard look really nice. I would definitely use them again, we have many more landscaping projects, it's just a little pricey so maybe next year.

My experience went well. The Narrow Lane Landscape Company did an estimate and did their work. They’re very personable. The guy called back pretty quickly and he came out. He worked on us with time management and scheduling like what was convenient for us.

It was a pleasure working with Ron and his company. The design process went back and forth a few times and Ron was always very helpful and reasonable and had great ideas on how our landscaping could be improved. The final plan is something that we were very happy with. Given that experience, we decided to hire him to install part of the plan (we could not afford to do it all at once). We established our total budget with Ron and he determined, given our priorities, what could be accomplished with the funds we had available. While it was not inexpensive, it was reasonable given how much physical labor was involved as well as the materials that the Narrow Lane uses (all of very high quality). Once that was agreed to and scheduled, everything went very smoothly. Ron was totally available, friendly and responsive if I had questions (and I did). He stands by the work of his company and everything they did looked amazing. The patio and path that they put in for us exceeded our expectations in terms of how beautifully done they both were. The plantings looked good, but they were installed in the fall, so we will know better how they really look in a few months. I have confidence that they will be beautiful and if any do not survive in the first year, they are guaranteed by the Narrow Lane to be replaced. Ron was a pleasure to work with, oversaw the work effectively and is creative and has excellent taste with his design approach. I highly recommend him and his company and look forward to continuing to work with them as we install additional parts of the landscape plan.

INCREDIBLY RESPONSIVE AND PUNCTUAL! I needed someone to remove snow from my driveway on very short notice. When I checked Angie's List, I noticed that the first couple of entries for snow removal near my home did not receive particularly high marks for responsiveness and punctuality. Ron, however, got As in both categories. He deserves those As -- he completed the job for me less than an hour after we spoke for the first time in our lives. In addition, Ron was a pleasure to deal with. Although I have extremely high standards, I was very impressed.

They are terrific and they come out pretty religiously. They are very responsive to whatever snow needs we have. They come out whenever we ask them to come out but they also come out on a scheduled basis. They do a really fine job and they charge depending on how many inches of snow they remove. We would definitely use them again in the future.

ron called back and we set up an appointment. he came by and took a look at all our issues - we have a stone patio which is sagging in numerous places and needs to be dug up and reset, and our front stone stairway is loose and needs to be redone. he was prompt, his written estimate came within days, and he was very nice/professional in person. i have not yet had this work done, but i'm pretty sure when it comes time this spring i will be calling him back. (he also gave me an estimate for lawn maintenance and snow removal, both were higher than what i pay now, although there is a lot of room for improvement for my yard!)

Ron is a nice guy. Response to my email quickly and showed up on time. I recently had 25-30 trees removed and need a landscaping company to remove the tree stump. I had several quotes from other companies and all ranged from $1600-$3000. The estimate I got from Ron was $12,000, which is 4 times higher than the others.

I did get an email response within a day from Ron. They're no longer accepting new customers this season but he did follow up to get my contact info for next season.

I took advantage of a deal on landscape lighting. Ron was responsive, provided ideas for light placement and completed the job a few days later. When a light failed, he ensured replacement immediately. I plan on using the services for additional lighting.

I have not made a decision yet on the work.

Ron was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. We made some changes at the last minute - decided to remove a couple of the trees from the original plan. Ron accommodated this without question and removed the items from our cost.

It was really very good. My budget was I think smaller than most of the projects Narrow Lane does. When Ron first came over, and I said I was hoping to keep the costs in four figures, he blanched a bit, but then came up with a plan that was as reasonably priced as he could to give us maximum bang for buck. (For example, he did it without producing drawings first, which they normally do, and charge for.) I agreed to it but told him I needed some time to secure a home equity LOC to pay for it. In the meantime, he was incredibly responsive. Usually you have to bug contractors -- in this case it was the reverse -- he had to bug me for status updates! (That's a compliment, in other words.) Finally, with the money secured, I gave him the go-ahead, and pretty soon afterwards they were at work. Halfway through, Ron gave me a walkthrough for final approval of details (like what goes where). The project was done for exactly the original quoted price except for two small change orders (one of which he suggested and I approved, the other of which I requested). The end results were great. The lawn looks fantastic, and they left the site in pristine shape (they even moved a basketball hoop that needed to go elsewhere). I would definitely use them again for future projects. They are a bit more expensive than other contractors, but Ron gives a very clear estimate, sticks to it, is extremely responsive, and gets the job done well and quickly. This is pretty consistent with the reviews I read before contacting Narrow Lane: they are fantastic to use, but you pay a bit more for it. I'd say it's worth it; I might have been able to save a bit by using some typically erratic guy who you can never reach on the phone, but it wouldn't be worth the savings.

Great! Ron presented a superb plan for our new stone pathway, guided us through available options, selected excellent materials, and his team expertly placed the path. It looks like the pathway had always been there, which is exactly the "natural" look we hoped for.

Process went well and we were very happy with the outcome. Workers were polite, professional and did excellent work. Ron was generally on site most days, checking in on the work and remained accessible for any concerns that may arise. Ron works hard to ensure you are happy with the work and when small issues arise, as they always do, he sees that issues are resolved to your satisfaction. Price estimate was initially higher than we expected, and we made a few adjustments; once we agreed upon the work to be done it proved to be a reasonable price for the scope and quality of the work. Ron provides a detailed contract with everything in writing so it is all clear, which we REALLY appreciated. We would definitely use Narrow Lane again and highly recommend them.

Narrow Lane was in the middle from a price standpoint among the five bids we received for this extensive landscaping and hardscape project. Ron Goode who owns The Narrow Lane was onsite promptly when we called, and interacted collaboratively with the landscape architect who had designed our project. There were some tricky aspects to it, including the angle of the driveway, placement of the drain, curve of the stone wall, etc. My wife and I were pretty picky as the work was underway about things like amount of mortar on the wall, placement of shrubs, etc. Ron was extremely patient in working with us and always demonstrated a good attitude. In some cases, such as lighting and removing roots to prepate the ground for sod, he made suggestions that really added quality and esthetics to our plan. The crew was onsite all day for more than two solid weeks, including some weekend work, so we felt the price was fair for the work we saw being done. We are thrilled with how the project turned out, and neghbors walking their pets past our house keep stopping to rave.

In both cases, Ron answered his phone promptly and asked that we e-mail the details of the property and our concerns. Within a matter of days he had visited the property and provided insightful ideas and repair estimates to solve our problems. Although we eventually decided to defer these projects and therefore can't speak to the value and quality of the final product, we found our interaction with Ron to be positive on several levels. First, we actually got to speak with Ron. In an era of overflowing voice mailboxes, we appreciated that Ron answered our phone call on the first try. Second, he communicated clearly regarding the timeline for his response so we knew when to expect to hear from him again. FInally, he did what he said he would do and got back to us when he said he would. Once we received his initial thoughts/estimate, we exchanged several e-mails to clarify certain details and get additional information. Overall, our experience with Narrow Lane Landscape was positive, and we would recommend the company to people looking for a quick turnaround on an estimate.

Working with Narrow Lane was wonderful. Ron (owner) is very responsive and wants to make sure his clients are satisfied with the services provided. We initially contacted Narrow Lane in early March 2012. Although it took a little longer than we had wished to get the work done at our property, Ron made sure to get the job done in time for a very important deadline (my husband's 40th birthday!). We are very pleased with Narrow Lane's work and would likely use again for future services.

We are extremely pleased with the work and experience. Ron designed everything from scratch and did a great job of listening to our preferences, suggesting a variety of approaches/plantings, and arriving at a design we really like. His crews did a high quality job and he was very responsive to any changes or minor fixes we requested. But more than anything, Ron is a true professional with a real focus on making his clients happy. We have done three major house rehabs and worked with numerous contractors. Ron is the most responsive, punctual, considerate contractor we have worked with.

First the positive: Ron has a good eye for design - and makes very good suggestions - he thinks things through about how one would really use the space, and what things you need to really enjoy the space. This crew is very professional and punctual - they worked tirelessly to get the job done VERY quickly. Bluestone patio looks great. The small nit is that the construction did create a ton of brown spots in the yard and although he put a few strips of new turf around the worst parts of the patio and we watered regularly, there are places where it simply hasn't come back at all - it's dead and brown...so I wish he and his crew had made more effort to take care of the yard where the patio wasn't going in, or helped fix the dead spots... Also I think the wire from the rainsensor to the sprinkler controller got snipped, as it no longer works - but I don't know if that was a result of the work or not.

Ron and his assistant Karen were very good to work with. Ron was responsive to our ideas about types of plants and did the installation work expeditiously. When they discovered that a large piece of stump from the tree had not been removed, they worked closely with the tree removal company to grind the remainder and prepare the soil. A cherry tree Ron planted died after a few weeks. He and Karen went out of their way to find another identical one, and to change the soil mixture. It is now doing splendidly!

We needed a certified plot plan to acquire a building permit in order to remodel our front porch. John provided the required plan at the time and price he quoted. There was a minor communication problem about the setbacks, but John provided the amended plan promptly.

The price for the tree removal was consistent with other quotes that we've got. We had to get back to them about how much money we wanted to spend on a design. We haven't followed up with that. He was wonderful. He really listened well and heard what you were saying. I felt that he understood what I was requesting and looking for. He couldn't really give us any design ideas at the time, because he needed some budgets perimeters. But based on what he said, it felt like he really knew what he was talking about and had experience designing landscapes. That was reassuring. He was responsive. He didn't seem to think that it was anything more than he could handle. He was clear that tree removal wasn't necessarily the thing that they did, but that he did have others who could work with him on that. I felt like he was honest about his particular expertise, but very accommodating as well. We chose another company, but I still felt like he provided us with a reasonable quote.

Ron and his team were very responsive. Ron and i went back and forth on a few different ways to do the job. We drove around once to look at other stone walls and fences to get a feel for what might look right for the neighborhood. Ron offered good advice. For example, one important question was how high to build the fence given what the neighbors were doing. i wanted privacy but Ron cautioned me against making it look like a fortress. Now that the job is finished, i can see that he was right. I didn't bid the project out so i can't compare the price to others. But i feel like we got a pretty good deal. We're planning on doing more landscaping maybe extensive in the next two years and i will definitely be reaching out to the Narrow Lane. I also just noticed that my neighbor two houses down is using Ron with similar stone a large retaining wall in their front yard, which is fantastic, since it gives some coherence to the street.
