The project was done on time and within agreed budget. The team was on time, professional, clean and nice. I was home the entire time for this project and I never heard any swearing or loud music. Jeff collaborated with us regarding the design of the French drain and the placement for it within our property. He provided his professional experience yet also listened to our needs and incorporated them into the design. The new patio was designed to pitch away from the house. The house had a history of water getting into the basement due to the pitch of the property. Jeff's team installed the patio so that the pitch would drain the water away from the house and into the French drain. During the recent hurricane Sandy, there was no water in our basement. The team cleaned up their working area every day. The team repaired an old stone stairway so that it maintained its old look. They reseeded damaged grass areas at the end of the project.

since we hired masonworks we never have to worry about snow removal anymore, they always show up on time they always apply salt after they remove all the snow. The good thing about Bruno is the communication, when I need to know what time they will show up I send Bruno a email and he usually respond in 10-15 minutes. This is Great. I definitely recommend Masonworks for your snow removal.

Masonworks quickly responded to my email requesting a quote, scheduled a date to come out, and Bruno arrived on time. His knowledge was obvious and he discussed the job with me as he looked around. After comparing several quotes, we selected Masonworks for the job. They provided a contract immediately, then before I could even get it back in the mail called with an available day. With winter coming I was thrilled to have the job done as soon as possible. Everyone who came out arrived on time and was very pleasant. I was not around in the afternoon when work wrapped up, but was pleased to discover no mess at all and everything complete.
Description of Work: Masonworks re-pointed the front steps to our condo building, a 20-foot span and 8 stairs high. They removed the old cement and filler that had been patched over the years, and replaced it with fresh cement.

I don't like to call a company more than once. When a first call isn't returned promptly, I don't want to enter into a business relationship.

This client called us on Thursday November 22nd, i.e, Thanksgiving Day. This a religious holiday for us and we were closed. We did respond to her call on Monday and she was so rude that I couldn't believe how rude she was. We called to schedule a meeting and she said she didn’t need our help. Two things: 1-We don't service Stoneham for snow removal; 2- I really don't want nor need a client like this one. Can anyone imagine what it would be to work for someone like this? Life is too short to get into this kind of relationships. We are polite and do work for polite people who appreciate the work we do and as far as I can see all of my Angie's List clients are educated and polite people. This is who we want to work for

Work was done professionaly, not adequately. We did what we had in contract and did it to the maximum possible perfection that a concrete floor can be done. The client wanted to have a marble finish on a poured garage floor.

He didn't call the night before to confirm and I was surprised when he showed up. Also, they extended the stairs the wrong way but completely made up for it and redid it the correct way. Done in less than a day and a half, showed up fast to do estimate and work started less than 2 weeks from me hiring them. One of the best experiences I've had with a contractor. His estimate was the best also. Stairs look wonderful and they are coming back to get some cement off my walkway. GREAT Thanks Angie !!!!

The owner, Jeff Souza promptly responded to our request for a bid on the proposed project with a site visit. He took necessary measurements, offered helpful suggestions for designing the work, and provided a full discussion of how the work would be done. He brought a collection of different paver materials and pattern options that was most helpful to me in choosing the right components for our patio. He followed up with a well prepared, comprehensive written proposal for completing the job, including the specific nature of the work, the details about materials to be used and work to be done, and the cost and payment proposals. An unexpected event ( a hurricane in the Northeast) prevented us from returning home in time for the agreed start date of the project, however when we returned, we were surprised and pleased to see the work had been fully completed in just a couple of days time. My neighbor made a point of telling me that he was impressed with how hardworking and efficient the crew was. The layout was exactly as we had envisioned, and our inspection of the work confirmed that it was well constructed and professionally done. Jeff made a point of following up in person to assure that we were satisfied with the work. I would favorably recommend Masonworks to anyone looking for a high quality hardscape project.

The job was done in one day and so far no water in basement. Had a little miscommunication with Jeff Souza regarding work to be done and estimate. but resolved issue by bringing Bruno back and talking again in person.
Description of Work: We had a hole in our foundation [ Field stone ] . Rain was really coming in. Called this company, dealt mainly with a man named Bruno who was very nice. They dug a trench 4' deep trench in the problem area, applied cement stucco, foundation sealer and 6ml plastic against the foundation. They fixed the hole on the inside of the foundation also and connected 2 downspouts installed 4" pipe with emitter at end.

Our condo association hired Masonworks to do our snow removal for the winter of 2011-2012. Masonworks came to look at our building and talked to us about which areas needed snow removal; then they got back to us quickly with a competitive pricing schedule for our building. After we hired them, the Masonworks team arrived in a timely manner each time it snowed and did an excellent job of removing the snow from our common areas and surrounding sidewalks. I really enjoyed the luxury of not having to worry about shoveling whenever we got snow, and I highly recommend Masonworks for snow removal.

We were in the beginning stages of thinking about how to improve our home's entryway and patios. Our asphalt driveway extends right up to the back door so there was no real landing to set the entrance apart from the driveway. Our home apparently had a pool many years ago so the two continguous patios (separated by a 6 inch step) were just a plain concrete with a low wall on one side still containing metal pole remants from the old fence. We called MasonWorks and Jeff came by very promptly. We showed him the areas we wanted to improve and he quickly came up with designs that would fit the style of our home, an 1860s farm house. Within a very short period of time, he sent us a proposal and estimate. Since we were still early in the process, we were not ready to pursue the project right away. A few months later, we ultimately decided to go ahead and get the jobs done. Since MasonWorks had such a great track record for quality based on Angie's List reviews and because we really like Jeff's proposal and availability we felt confident going with the original proposal and forgoing other estimates. (We thus cannot comment on pricing comparison.) Bruno and his crew came at the designated time and the project was completed in less than a week. The crew left the work site neat and organized each day. The quality of the work was excellent. The entryway paving is beautiful. Jeff had proposed a 45 degree angle placement with cobblestone borders and we love it. The bluestone patios are absolutely beautiful and the wall and 6 inch step are veneered with lovely fieldstone. The bulkhead entryway concrete is now neat and level. We did notice that the bulkhead doors did not close properly at first. When we notified Jeff and Bruno, the crew came by and fixed the problem very promptly. They cleaned up the site and hauled all waste away. We are thrilled with the work. We found that it was very easy to communicate with Jeff or Bruno at any time we had questions or concerns so we felt confident along the way that the job would get done the way we wanted it. Overall we had a great experience with MasonWorks. We would definitely use them again and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: 1. Replace part of asphalt driveway at rear home entrance with brick and cobblestone pavers. 2. Install cobblestone pavers around two planter beds. 3. Install buestones over two existing concrete patios. One of the patios was enlarged. 4. Veneer existing concrete wall with fieldstones 5. Replace basement bulkhead and repair mortar and stones at bulkhead entrance. Create solid surface for the new bulkhead door.

I was very impressed with my initial meetings with Bruno and then Jeff Souza who came out, and talked about my options for replacing my front steps. We talked for quite a bit of time, including a walk in my neighborhood to show Jeff the design and type of stone I wanted. Jeff followed up with a quote, and a picture of a set of steps he had done. I replied to him in total agreement as to that was what I wanted. I signed the contract and they scheduled the work. Didn't have to provide money up front. Day of construction came and the guys showed up and got to work. I was a bit concerned as to the mess they were making and what it was going to do to my lawn, as nobody set my expectations as to what the job would look like. After the steps were completely removed and a huge pile of busted up concrete was on my lawn, they came with the materials and lots of sand, gravel and materials, all of which were dumped on the lawn. There was a bit of disagreement on my part as to how far down they should dig for proper footings and after a call to Bruno, he came out quickly and had them dig deeper. The next day or so they started to pour new concrete and start placing the stones. Unfortunately the type of stone and the way they were placing them were completely different than what Jeff and I had agreed upon. Several frantic calls to Bruno later, he came to the site and I expressed my concern this wasnt what was agreed upon. I had wanted and had emails back and forth with the owner Jeff as to what I wanted the steps to look like. Bruno informed me that those types of stones and that type of construction would involve a different method and would cost more. In my mind and I did express this to him, that I agreed upon and signed a quote based on a picture and an email. This wasnt what was promised. I got the sense that the type of steps he was building me was what they build for most customers. I showed Bruno the email, and he spoke with the crew. They decided to be creative and take the flat stones and put them on their sides to show a facade like appearance close to what I wanted. I agreed to let them proceed, because at this point I had a crew of guys staring at me, probably talking trash about me in portuguese, and wet concrete drying quickly. I trusted that the look would be what I wanted. After a full day of being concerned and raising my concern repeatedly to Bruno about this, the steps were done. They look ok, but they really are not what I wanted and I am very disappointed with the overall quality of the construction. The steps look a bit sloppy in places and I now have to live with them for the next 10-20 years. My lawn was destroyed in a large patch, and they put down loam on the lawn without re-seeding. The loam must have mixed with whatever sand and left over concrete mix there was because I am having a very hard time growing grass. They did come back in dump down a bunch of seed in spots in a non consistent manner only after I emailed them to ask if they were going to do it. When I questioned why there was so much damage the lawn, they told me that they pile everything on the lawn and not the driveway as the lawn is easy to fix. Well, my lawn isn't fixed and I spent a lot of money a few years ago redoing the lawn. I really never expected these problems with Masonworks, this is the first time Angieslist has majorly let me down. I am overall disappointed with the job. My suggestion for mason works: 1)Do what you say you are going to do 2)Communicate internally because it is clear that this didnt happen 3)Set your customer's expectations clearly as I was un-prepared for the damage you guys did UPDATE: Of course they would bash me and call me a slave driver, that's very professional. It was exceptionally hot when the service was done so I made sure his workers had plenty of ice water and stayed cool. All I asked was for them to deliver on what was promised by the owner and they did not do this.
Description of Work: Demolish old bluestone and concrete front steps, rebuild new steps according to agreed upon design and materials. Dig footings and properly pour concrete for new steps.

We have done whatever possible to please this customer. His attitude is that we were his slaves as we were working on his steps. Nothing that we did would suffice and would be good enough. Through the process he kept calling every hour, telling me, Bruno and my masons what to do and complaining about everything. We have done 115 jobs this year so far, and had two complaints - that is over 99% of satisfaction. Every now and then we find someone who will not be pleased regardless of what we do to please them. Let's put it this way: any and everything that was written in the contract was done to the very last comma. We do have an awesome communication with our clients and among us, Masonworks team. The fact of the matter is that the client really is out there to complain the same way he did against the roofers who were working at the property when we were doing the steps. Proof of our communication and quality of work can be seen by anyone who desires to read our 150+ Angie's List reports both on Masonry, hardscape, landscape, drainage. We are Super Services Award for the last 5 years in all categories we get into. Then again we cannot please everyone - we can just please 99% +, i.e., those who really can and want to be pleased.

I always contact at least three contractors, and then get prices and contracts. No contract, forget it. Mason Works explained everything, and their contract spelled out everything. So overall, the job went quickly and satisfactorily.
Description of Work: Mason Works took out my old front steps, and replaced it with new steps using concrete, stone and cement. The men were very efficient and cleaned up the area very nicely. They were quick about what they did, and did it during the time period I wanted it done. It was easy to work with them, and the job was done in a timely manner. I would recommend them to anyone interested in replacing their front steps. I priced several people, some were higher, some were lower. However, I always go with my gut when I am dealing with these people, and I usually find the right contractor for the job. With angie's list it makes it easier.

We chose flame bluestone (the hardest of the three main types of bluestone) for the treads and top landing, with fieldstone veneer for the sides. They did the job on a very hot and humid Saturday. It was amazing, the project, from beginning to end. And I never saw so many men work so hard and without break, except for a brief lunch in the shade. These guys are serious craftsmen and professionals. The Mason Works crew, led by Bruno, did a beautiful job transforming my old painted concrete stoop to the new focus of my home's front. The flame bluestone, as it turns out, matches the gray-blue trim, and helps pull together not only color but architectural elements of my home's exterior. Really, the work is stunning. This past week, they returned to acid wash the stonework (included in the price). It looks fantastic. I had ongoing questions before and after the job, and Jeff and Bruno were quick to respond. I highly recommend Mason Works!
Description of Work: My homeowners insurance company did a spontaneous inspection of my property and told me I had 60 days to get a hand railing on my old concrete stoop, at my main entryway. When I got estimates for the railing system, they said it would look ugly to just put a beautiful new hand railing on the plain concrete. I had to agree. So I checked out a number of stone masons, and I liked Jeff Souza's of Mason Works responsiveness, price, and what I saw online, including in their company web site.

Jeff called me within an hour of my inital contact through Angie's List. That was the kind of response we got throughout the process with Jeff. He met me at our house to listen to what I was looking to do and offered great suggestions to help me flesh out my ideas. He was very responsive in all aspects through bid and and build, including subsequent meetings with both my husband and my landscape designer. His team is professional, courteous and CLEAN! They work their butts off and the do excellent work. The masonry work is beautiful and the carpentry is solid. They take their time to make sure that everything is done the "right" way and don't cut any corners. They communicate throughout the process and make it clear that they want you to be happy with the end result. Well, we couldn't be happier with the work Jeff and his team did for us. In fact, we can't wait for him to come back in the spring to transform our front walkway!
Description of Work: Jeff designed and built: - a 20' circular patio with 180 degree ringing low (sitting height) retaining wall - a new walkway (approx 15 feet w/ 4 steps) from our driveway to deck stairs - extended our existing 11' x 14' deck by an additional 6', replacing all the existing damaged Trex decking boards
