Gibbons Electric

They made quick work of it. They were quick, courteous, able, and they cleaned up at each location where they worked.||Henceforth they will be my go to electrician.||I attempted to get quotes from two other Angies electricians. One came in at $500 higher for the identical work, another did not bother to respond to my contact.

Very professional, quickly diagnosed the problem.

I made the appointment about 3 weeks ago, but this was the week that was available for this type of hourly work. He arrived promptly, and replaced my old ceiling fan with a new one. I had bought the new one, guessing it was the correct size, and it it turned out to be OK. I also had an old light fixture in my closet (a ceiling-installed fixture with a pull chain), which was replaced with a 2-foot fluorescent strip. (I was told that the building code requires that rather than a standard fixture.) The electrician was prompt, worked quickly, and both wore booties inside the house and cleaned up after himself. He even patched some plaster from the old fan installation, and patched a small hole left when he installed the new light. He was here for an hour and 40 minutes, and was very personable. This was a fairly straightforward job, I realize, but it was done quickly and easily. I plan to use Gibbons as my electrician of choice in the future.

The provider consisting of 2 very professional electricians who arrived punctually, were informative, had good listening skills, and demonstrated excellent skills as electricians. I say that because my father was a master electrician and I gauged them by the way in which my father worked. They replaced a 2 bulb sensor security light with a quality piece as I had requested that a durable and reliable light be used. The second job was a timer which controlled a pair of patio lights again providing overnight flooding of a dark tree-surrounded back yard. Both jobs were successfully carried out. I am pleased with their work.

We were experiencing random power fluctuations (lights dimming at various times) in one unit of our two-family house. Called Gibbons Electric and made an appointment. The electrician arrived 10 minutes early (a good thing IMO) and after I briefly explained the problem got right to work on tracing the cause. Within about 20 minutes of test (with meters and visual inspection) he found the source...one of the two 'sockets' on the main breaker was seriously corroded (from previous water leakage into the panel years ago). He cleaned the terminals in the power panel (using a Dremel tool of mine with a sanding bit...I offered) and installed a new mains breaker. He also found on visual inspection a corroded 20-amp breaker, which wasn't causing the fluctuations but recommended it too be replaced, and I agreed.

I was very impressed with his willingness to suggest an alternative that actually worked it out for me.

A worker from Gibbons showed up on time and was very friendly and professional until the very end. He did the work thoroughly and carefully, although perhaps a bit on the slow side. It took nearly 2 hours (at $140 and hour) to replace a single electrical junction box and hang a light fixture. I was satisfied with the work, but when totaling the bill, he tried to charge me for the 35 minutes it took for him TO GET TO MY HOUSE?! I absolutely refused. He said he would have to check with his boss. "Check if you want, but I won't pay you for time you spent driving to my house", I said. Were they really expecting me to pay for travel time? I don't know where he drove from or if he was stuck in traffic. Would I have had to pay more or less if he came during rush hour or from a job next door? It just doesn't make sense. I've had lots of work done, and no one has ever tried to charge me for travel time. So I didn't pay the additional charge. Unfortunately, this experience totally marred what would otherwise have been a very professional job.

It went very well. I thought they were professional and very good.

They did great. When they quoted me, the quote was for $140/hour for two guys to complete the work. I wasn't really sure about it because I didn't know how to gauge what that meant - how long they would take, was it expensive or inexpensive? They estimated it would take half a day, but they ended up doing it in less. There was confusion with our appointment and they didn't show the monday I had been expecting them, but were so immediate with their response when I called, and their follow through so quick (they were out the next morning @ 7:00am and had completed the work AND had it inspected before I got home from work at 12:00) I was really impressed. The price ended up being extremely fair and they did good, clean work and picked up after themselves. What more could you ask for? A++!

They were very prompt and reasonably price. I will follow up with a review of the service

They called to confirm the appointment, called to inform me when they were going to be few minutes late, and worked hard to compete the work and answer all my questions. My only concern is that their prices are on the high side. But overall a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or to call them again for any future electrical problems!

I called and got a quote for the services, explaining in detail the work we wanted done. We got a quote and a date for them to do the work. I did not have them come to the house to do an estimate, figuring that would increase the overall cost. The workers did an excellent job, leaving few telltale signs of the holes they had to make to complete the job. They cleaned up after themselves and were very respectful of our home. However, the work took longer than expected to complete. The result was a bill that was 26% more than the quote. I explained this to the man in charge of the job, and he said he would have the guy who quoted me call me. When he called, he explained that his original estimate was a "ballpark" quote. I said I was surprised at the variance between the original number and reality. He explained that he had over 40 years of experience and there was "virtually no way to know how long a job can take." Be forewarned. He did offer to take 8% off the bill, which we settled on. My advice: Assume they will provide a low quote to get your business, and expect to pay more. It may help if they come to your home to do an estimate, but maybe not, since much of an electrician's work is inside the walls and they have to build into their costs the travel time to work up the estimate. You might also ask if the work is taking longer than expected that they tell you that as soon as they know. But even then, it may be difficult to back out of the job. You don't have many choices at that point.

They arrived exactly when they said they would (on the same day I called), inspected a couple suspect outlets, verified the breaker was dead, and replaced it. They guys who showed up were friendly and professional.

We had a good experience with the people at Gibbons Electric, from the person who took my call and scheduled the appointment to the men who arrived and did the work. I will call them in the future if I need an electrician. I appreciated the speed with which I received service. Even though it was a snowy morning, they took my concerns seriously (water leaking from the light fixture onto a bed) and tried to get to our home quickly. After setting up the appointment, the electrician called to tell me that he was running about 15 minutes behind schedule. I appreciate this kind of forthright communication. When the electricians arrived, they were friendly and took steps to ensure that they wouldn't leave my house messy. They wore slippers over their shoes, and they put plastic down in the room with the leaking light fixture so that it didn't spill on anything as they removed it. The electricians explained to me what they were doing and what needs to be done in the future in terms of replacing the light. They were courteous and friendly to my child, too. The whole visit took less than an hour. We have been pleased with the service.

Everything about my experience was superlative. Gibbons returned my initial call promptly, scheduled an appointment at my convenience (only a few days lead time), called twice to confirm - both the day before and the morning of the work to be completed. The two employees who did the work were prompt, listened carefully to what I wanted, made good suggestions, worked quietly and consistently for the nearly three hours they were on the job and cleaned up continually as their work progressed. And, as I type this review, I'm drinking tea out of my Gibbons Electric mug, a gift they give to their clients at the conclusion of their work. It just doesn't get any better that that! A++ in my book - and thank you Angie's list for making it possible for me to find them (and all the other contractors I've used since I became a member.)

Their "estimator" Jack was able to give a rough estimate over the phone but wanted to come out to see the setup to give a more accurate quote. He made an appointment for 3 days from the initial call (he chose the date/time himself) and gave a one hour time-frame. When the day came, there was no show and no call. An hour later, I called the office and explained I was waiting for Jack to arrive. They connected me to him and he admitted he was at another job that ran late and was not able to make it. I asked if he could come that afternoon since I had taken time away from work to meet him. He said he was busy with other jobs and suggested the next week! I had already waited 3 days for that appointment, so I declined to wait another 3-5 days, just for an estimate. This wasn't a tiny 1 hour job either - it would have given them a day's worth of work and the according charge >$2000, but I guess it was still too inconvenient for them to bother with. Maybe they want bigger jobs. We had had them out once before for a half days worth of work, running cable and electric for a TV-over-fireplace, as well as adding an outlet in a half bath and fixing a 3 way switch. That experience was better. We probably would have used them again if the estimate was good. I know they have good reviews here on Angie's List, but I don't have time to wait around for them to show up when they say they will, only to be a no-show with no courtesy call. They are nice over the phone but if they don't show up, it's not helpful and a waste of my time. What a classic bad experience of waiting for a contractor who can't keep their appointment. Just be weary when they say they will show up for an estimate....

Gibbons Electric was absolutely spectacular! The returned my phone call very quickly and gave a great quote of work. They were so quick and efficient we are thrilled! They're such an upstanding company, they even gave us a call this Christmas just to say "thank you" for doing business with them this year. It just goes to show how much they appreciate their customers. We will most definitely be contacting again when we need more electrical work done.

Very well. I will have them return to install new ceiling light fixture after I purchase one. Will also have them tweak outside lights again (several cold weather may be a factor in the lights' malfunctioning),

My husband and I decided that we'd prefer to place our TV on the wall opposite from where the cable jack was originally located, meaning the cable would need to be routed up inside the original wall, across the ceiling and down the wall opposite. After comparing two quotes, we chose Gibbons to complete the job. The two gentlemen from Gibbons were polite, professional and very tidy. They were actually running ahead of schedule (!) and called from outside my building to announce their early arrival. Their work was completed within 2 hours or so, the holes in the walls/ceiling kept to a minimum and patched nicely. I will absolutely be using Gibbons for my future electrical needs, and recommend them unreservedly.

They answered the phone when I called, came when they said they were going to, and did what I asked. The guy and his helper were friendly and explained everything the whole time. All of this for a fair price. I'd refer them in a second to anyone.

Gibbons was excellent. I have a new condo that needs to do some electrical wiring, upgrade a washer/dryer outlet, and a ceiling outlet for motorized window shades. My condo has a high 16' ceiling. 2 electricians Floyd and Mike did an excellent work! They were very responsible, professional, fast and responsive. They cleaned the floor after working and did not leave a mess. Very happy about this experience working with Gibbons!

Team of 2 arrived on time and were very efficient clean and respectful. They even saved me money by letting me know I purchased the wrong fan for my bathroom. I would definitely use them again.

Gibbons had been recommended to me by a friend when I bought my home. They were very easy to work with, very easy to set up appointments and follow up with. I wanted to replace all the knob and tube wiring in my 1920's era unit and also add several new outlets and dimmer switches before I moved in. The estimate process was very easy and the estimate was pretty much right on. The workers patched the holes they had to make better than any other contractor I've ever used, and swept up after each work day. I had a finicky kitchen ceiling fan/light combo that would constantly blow up bulbs - one of the guys took it apart and rebuilt it for me in the hopes that it would solve the problem - it didn't, but he really went above and beyond! Overall I was extremely satisfied with the work and service from Gibbons and have used them for a couple of other jobs in my home. I wouldn't think of using anyone else!
