Mike and his crew did an excellent job on a big and complicated job. What impressed me the most about working with him was his responsiveness whenever I tried to get in touch with him. I had spent several days contacting various contractors to get quotes for the job. Many contractors did not call me back and some made appointments and did not show. Mike always answers his phone and often responds instantaneously to text messages which I really appreciated. I often contacted Mike at off hours and weekends and he would respond promptly. It made coordinating a complicated job that much easier. His prices were very reasonable. I got some quotes that 25-50% higher than what Mike quoted. But as with many big projects like this on an older home, unexpected things get discovered, so the cost did escalate from what was quoted. On the flip side of that, the roof work was more extensive than anticipated but Mike stuck to his initial quote and did not raise the price which I thought was very honest. The project was significantly delayed by weather which is understandable for exterior work. There were some additional delays which Mike probably could have done a better job communicating why there was a delay (for example they were waiting for a part to arrive but he did not let me know that...in retrospect not a big deal). The quality of work for the major things was excellent and as part of his task, he took it upon himself to fix some of the design flaws in the construction of my house that were making some problems worse. There were a few minor cosmetic adjustments at the end of the job which I had to catch and point out to Mike. But he was incredibly responsive and promptly addressed any things were not done to my liking, often the next day and without additional labor cost. And basically for every minor mistake, he threw in an "extra" for me like a new gutter or downspout without charging extra. We had some painting done through Mike's painter as well. The painters did the job extremely fast and also took care of some plastering work. Their work was top notch. Overall, I was pleased with Mike and his crew and they were very easy to work with. There were some bumps along the way, but for big jobs you can't expect everything to go totally smoothly and whenever there was a problem, Mike took care of it immediately without additional cost. I would definitely recommend Mike Bauman and his crew.
Description of Work: 1) Replaced all exterior trim with Azek (all windows and corners). 2) Replaced roof ridge vent. Additional minor roof repairs including troubleshooting a small leak. 3) Replaced some gutters and downspouts. 4) Replaced rotting wood garage door frame. 5) Patched a hole in a basement wall 6) Priming and painting of trim after installation. Weatherproofing residual exterior wood. 7) Fixed and replaced water damage to a bedroom ceiling with painting and plastering.

He was very abrasive and rude when he was giving us the estimate. He was going to charge me 50 dollars per side of the window to put up the shutters, for a total of 100 dollars per window. My husband complained, and he offered the price of 40 dollars a window to put up the shutters. This still seemed very high to us. Our windows are not extremely large, so I don't see why that would be so expensive. He had a coupon listed in the magazine. He refused to honor it for this deal as he said he was already giving us a discount.
Description of Work: I called Mr. Bauman out for an estimate. I needed shutters hung on each side of my windows. I also needed some painting work done.
Mike's Team of professionals did an outstanding job on our recent home remodel. We purchased our house in 2005 and have been living with a less than optimal Kitchen and Bathroom since then. Old flooring, mismatched counter-tops, dingy drop ceilings and holes in the plaster. We contacted Mike through Angie's list as he had some very good recommendations here. We were not disappointed. Mike came by, assessed the work that needed to be done in our kitchen and gave us a timely quote for the job. We got started right away, scheduling Mike's team to do the work in our Kitchen. Initially we had another contractor doing the work in our upstairs bathroom but that did not work out so we asked Mike if he could take on that job as well. He was glad to do so, giving us a quick and reasonable quote for the work and getting started right away. Mike's paint and plaster team came in (Eddie and his crew) removed the old drop ceiling in our kitchen and half-bath adjacent to the kitchen. The ceilings in this area were plaster/blue board and in horrible shape with large holes and cracks. They removed wallpaper in the kitchen that had been painted over when we first moved into the house. There was a built in Ironing board cabinet in one wall which we had them remove and repair the wall. They repaired the ceiling and walls, and (with assistance from Juan the carpenter on Mike's team) built a frame and blue board box around a Vent pipe that was going from the stove to an exterior wall (this had previously been above the drop ceiling). They did smooth plaster over the blue board and painted the ceiling and walls, it came out great. In the half bath that was built off the kitchen the walls had not been built all the way to the ceiling (just to where the drop ceiling had previously existed) they filled in the space with blue board and built a nice boarder to cover where the two wall types met. In the upstairs bath the paint and plaster team did some moderate wall and ceiling repairs and did a very nice job painting the walls, ceiling and trim inside the bathroom. They did some putty repair on the doors, trimmed the bottom of the doors (to make room for the new flooring we were having installed) and painted them. In that bathroom there is a small closet with a full size door. Mike's carpentry team replaced the shelving in the closet so that the shelves were deeper, then the paint team removed old wallpaper cleaned up the walls and painted the walls and shelves. Another member of Mike's team, Juan, installed a glass and stone tile backsplash in the kitchen between the counter level and the bottoms of our cabinets it came out beautifully. He also installed a similar tile in our upstairs bathroom between the ceiling and the tub/shower insert and a wood trim around the ceiling edge over the tile. We were very please with this work. We had quartz countertops installed from Lowes, Juan removed our old countertops and prepped the space so that the counter installers would be able to do a quick efficient install. Then he remounted our dishwasher after the counters were installed so that it was firmly in place, installing a nice piece of wood trim to cover the dishwasher mounting brackets. Juan installed a new mirror in the bathroom, installed an over-john cabinet, double towel bar, toilet paper bar, hand towel bar and Shower curtain rod. He was an excellent workman, doing beautiful work in a very professional way. He showed me some photos of some other carpentry work he had done, building custom made barn doors for one client and custom built tables for another. Mike's team did a full cleanup after the job, even hauling away all of our construction debris, including two toilets, the old bathroom sink and vanity. Overall we could not be happier with the work that Bauman Remodeling has done for us. We will definitely be recommending them to friends and neighbors. I wish I had the ability here to attach photos, we are so happy with the changes in our home, it feels like we are living in a brand new house. My thanks go out to this team for all their hard work. The work that he did was fine. It took literally him 2 minutes to do. It seems pretty quick for how much I paid.
Description of Work: He did a little bit of remodeling on a cabinet. He gave us a quote on some other work. He kept explaining himself over and over about why his prices were what they were. I didn't ask. He was a little strange.
Responded to my initial email in less than 24 hours. Came to my home the same week and gave a detailed description of the work that would need to be done. Took pictures, measurements, and gave an estimate on how long the project would take. Got a quote within 10 days and work started about 2 weeks later. The crew was friendly, clean, and trustworthy. Mike kept tabs on the project throughout and was in constant contact to explain the work.
Description of Work: Added sound proofing to the ceiling, plastered, painted, added a ceiling fan and recessed lighting, and mounted a TV.

From the beginning Mike Bauman was punctual, responsive, and professional while being friendly and down to earth. I felt very comfortable discussing the options with Mike, and after hearing what he had to say, felt confident that he would take care of the problems in the most practical, well-thought out and economical way possible. I was not disappointed. Mike was up front about the cost of the job - he does not believe the homeowner should have "surprises" when it comes to final cost. The only exception - and he was very clear and honest about this - was the possibility that after actually opening the inside of my front wall he might find black mold. That would have changed the entire scope of the work and I understood why. Luckily, there was no harmful mold. Mike and his crew completed the job faster than I would have thought possible while not neglecting any detail and consulting with me every step of the way. Mike himself was on site throughout the job, which was very comforting. However, I also felt entirely confident about everyone in his crew who worked on the job. They were ALL just as professional as Mike and clearly took pride in every detail. The job was done with minimal disruption for me, something that again I did not expect since they had to essentially cut into, rip apart and redo a lot of the front wall of my house inside and out!!!! The detail that impressed me the most was how Mike was able to "save" my large front window. Other contractors had automatically said they would replace the window. Mike would not do so unless he found it was entirely necessary, as he had taken the time to carefully evaluate the problem and was pretty sure the window itself was in perfectly good shape. Mike and his crew took the time to take out the window, inspect it, redo the seals and put it back the RIGHT way so that (1) I saved at least $1500 in the cost of a new window and (2) I would never have the leak problem again. I will DEFINITELY hire Mike Bauman for my next job, large or small. I gave him an "A" on price because although his services are probably not the "cheapest" out there, I believe in the end he was fair and consistent and STUCK TO HIS UP-FRONT PRICE, even looking for places to safely and thoughtfully save money for the homeowner whenever possible.
Description of Work: We had pretty bad water damage as a result of poorly installed gutters and winter ice that had seeped in and done damage inside the front wall of the house. Our front window was leaking whenever we had a strong rain and I was afraid I was getting mold in my walls. Mike Bauman and his crew replaced the fascia along the entire front of the house, took out and reinstalled our window with the correct flashing, redid the trim around the outside of the window to prevent future damage, took out and replaced the faulty front gutter, scraped and repaired the wood shingles that had suffered damage as well as all the rotted the trim around the front door. They then scraped and repainted the front wall of my house.

Mike has done some work for me in the past and always gives me great advice so when I realized my gutters needed work he was my first call. I had other estimates for the work I needed and, as expected, Mike's was the most reasonable one I received. Gutters: I needed new gutters on the front and rear of the house along with new fascia for some areas where ice dams had caused major damage a few years ago. While they were up on the roof Mike noticed that the gutters on the porch were also in pretty bad condition and gave a very reasonable price to do them while he was already set up. When the work started he realized the fascia was rotten and took pictures to explain the situation and additional cost which was again VERY reasonable. Porch: I had rotting balustrades which needed replacement. Mike removed all and re-spaced them so they were up to code. Once we decided on a time frame Mike was great about being here when he said he would be. I was at work when the job was being done over the space of 4-5 days and when I got home everything was always neat and picked up. Mike always sticks to his estimate even though there were a few little things here and there that needed doing. He even re-installed a poorly leveled window someone else had done improperly at no cost while he was here!! Mike and his guys are always a pleasure to work with and I will be calling him in the spring for some roof work that needs to be done.
Description of Work: Gutters: replaced and repaired gutters and fascia in various spots around the house. Porch: replaced rotting balustrades and re-spaced to bring them up to code.

The job went well . Nice bunch of guys friendly experienced, good workers, Mike the owner was easy to reach, and easy to work with. The job went well when the weather cooperated. The painting was delayed some because of rain. Overall the job looks great. The price was fair. They left the yard cleaner than they found it. I would hire them again.

I got my rotten sill replaced on my house. Everything went flawlessly... These guys did an GREAT job!
We had a number of closets that needed to be built from floor to ceiling on four floors, which went well. He also did some framing, plastering and doorway construction work for us. The result was a set of restored bedrooms that fit the existing style of the home. Mike also did some water leak repair damage that took care of the problem within days of assessing the source of the leak. The work as all done very well.
Description of Work: Mike Bauman and his team performed a number of general remodelling and plaster work projects in our home, including installing closets, doors and other work. He provided accurate quotes and estimations of the size and time scale of each job. I was very satisfied by the remodelling work that he did and have used his company for additional jobs around the home since the intitial work was done.

Mike and his team did several projects for me and for our condo building. For my own unit, he renovated my outdoor back deck (second floor), replaced two of my windows with additional interior touch up paint around it, and fixed one of my master bedroom windows. The master bedroom window had jammed and I could not open it. Overall, his team did a wonderful job. The back deck is beautiful and the windows have been nicely done. For our condo building (an old building built in the late 1800s), he replaced several exterior window trims. This was quite labor intensive. The window trims had been peeling and were quite run down. His team did a wonderful job in replacing the trims, and repairing some of the shingles, and then painting them. The front of our building looks quite nice. His price was reasonable and fair. He gave advice on what was most cost-effective in approaching each project. I never sensed that he wanted to advantage of trying to get more money out of me. One thing to note in my experience in working with Mike and the team is that they are very busy. Clearly, they have a strong reputation and are in high demand. At times, there were delays in getting my project done due to their busyness, and clearly, they had bigger projects they were working on. Although there were delays, Mike was always responsive, and he did not let me down. When the job was done, it was beautiful. He has a very talented team. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

Mike Bauman was our general contractor for our kitchen renovation and he did an excellent job. He pulled out a permit for the job and followed all the building codes and guidelines that were necessary without compromising on the quality of the work. Mike is very professional and a good communicator. Unlike other contractors Mike listens to all your concerns and follows all the instructions. He also provides good suggestions for the more complicated tasks. His price is fair. You can probably find cheaper contractors but quality of work and the overall experience will not be the same.
Description of Work: We did a complete kitchen renovation which included new hardwood floors, new electrical work, new plumbing and installing new cabinets. We also needed to remove the asbestos because our condo was built over 100 years ago.

Mike is awesome: he's quiet, competent, thorough, and I trust him. Before my first floor tenants moved out, I had Mike come over and look at the sub-par kitchen and give me an estimate on what I'd need to change -- the floor, the sink, and intall cabinets, counters, and lighting -- to make the kitchen more attractive to high quality tenants. I emphasized that they'd only have between August 2 to approximately mid-August to do this project, because I'd want the 2nd half of August to show the apartment. Mike gave me a reasonable estimate -- $18,000 -- and worked diligently to complete the project smoothly and on time. He measured the space for the cabinets and counters, and had me choose the colors and materials I wanted, and had everything installed and beautiful. He made it look easy, but I know there were a myriad of details, coordinating the demolition, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, delivery of the cabinets, countertops, flooring, and fixtures, getting the cleanup done, seven or eight different workers in all, and all of it he handled so I could go to work and know that everything was being taken care of. There was a mixup about the lighting, I didn't specify the type of lighting, I just blithely assumed it would be halogen lights but they put in fluorescent instead: no big deal, Mike got the lighting changed to halogen and on a dimmer. The kitchen looks GREAT, see the before and after picture for yourself. One thing I really appreciate about Mike is how resourceful he is. He has experience and a thoughtful temperament I have come to trust and appreciate. Just look at the pictures, you can see he does good work.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled my kitchen, removing flooring and sink and installing wall cabinets, under-cabinet halogen lighting, counters, counter cabinets, sink, new flooring, and ceiling fixture -- all on a tight timetable.
Overall great contractor; I always had issues with my gutter but it seems they did a great job; hopefully I do not have any more gutter and water problems. He is reasonable priced, not the cheapest but you pay for what you get.
Description of Work: Mike and his crew replaced the gutters, fixed some sidelong and trim. His crew is top notch; they are great guys and detailed workers. Mike has too many things on his plates but he managed to get the job done with a slight delay which I did not mind.

Bauman Remodeling helped us to do a complete kitchen and master bathroom remodel. On a very tight timeline Mike and his team removed a load baring wall to open up our kitchen/ dining room, updated a lot of electric/ plumbing, installed new recessed lighting, plaster coated our ceilings (throughout the entire home), did some custom cabinetry, tiled the entire bathroom and installed new appliances and fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom. Each of the members of Mike?s team are professional and they do really top notch work. We could not have been happier with the work that was done or with how the process went. We needed these jobs done quickly and even with a number of unexpected hurdles Bauman Remodeling came through and completed the job on time. We now have a home that we really love.

Overall the projects went well, but they ran a bit over time due to multiple factors. Two bathrooms project took about 8 weeks, and the house repainting lasted for a couple of months. I have to say we coordinated with refinishing all the floors during this timeframe which took about 3 weeks in the middle of the project.Mike is very responsive to phone calls and issues, and he takes care even of minor issues, so I would recommend his team for any project.
Description of Work: Mike and his team worked in our house on two big projects - two complete bath room renovations last year and repainting of interiors of the house and exterior gutters and windows, and some woodworking on the shelves in the living room this year. The bathrooms were completely gutted and rebuild. One bathroom was made with marble, and the other with tile. The tiling work with both marble and ceramic tiles was done impeccably, everything looks perfect and beautiful. Plumbing and painting has been tested for a year now, and we don't have any complains. The interior repainting was a difficult project since our house was built in 1937, and the walls in the 1st floor rooms were designed to look wavy (plastering 3D effect) which we didn't like. Mike's team did a wonderful job making the walls flat, and also painting with a great attention to detail. We also have some wooden trims and chair rails on the walls that we kept, and they were all nicely painted. The woodworking project included making shelves in the master bedroom closet and changing configuration of bookshelves in the living room to accommodate a TV. The job was nicely done, and the entire house looks like new now.

As a new home owner, I was able to get a small rehab assistance loan from my city. Relatively new to Angie?s List, I turned to it to search for a suitable general contractor for a small bathroom rehab and external work to my two family house. I read the glowing reviews for Bauman Remodeling and saw that they were in the ?A? listings, so I decided to try them. I?m so glad that I did! Their ?A? listing was certainly well-deserved! We started our project together in the spring and ended in mid-summer. Thanks to Mike and his excellent team, my bathroom went from old and run-down to modern, gorgeous and unique. And the exterior front and back porches were secured and brought up to code. From the beginning of the project to the end, I found Mike Bauman and his team to be prompt, reliable, and responsive ? always keeping me abreast of the project?s progress every step of the way even running interference with sometimes surly and bureaucratic inspectors. I highly recommend Mike Bauman (Bauman Remodeling) who has done absolutely outstanding work with my bathroom and external renovation. He is fair, honest, hardworking and dedicated to his craft. To illustrate some of the reasons I was delighted to work with him I found Mike and his crew: 1) To be very considerate, cleaning up on a daily basis, enabling me to use the facilities even during all stages of the work, always trying to satisfy my needs, both in design and economically. On the design side: I was looking at materials for my bathroom floor and walls. Mike happened to be there as I was noodling through choices. I landed on a couple. He suggested I reverse what I had contemplated for the walls with what I had contemplated for the floor. I took his advice and the outcome was absolutely stunning! On top of that, my bathroom is down a newly re-polyurethaned hallway. Mike assured that my hardwood floors were protected at all times with coverings. On one occasion he was about to leave for the day. He noticed some grit on the hallway covering that included a couple of sharps. He did not know I was watching, he bent down and picked them up before walking out the door. I was so impressed by the thoughtfulness of that small gesture. 2) To take initiative, suggesting ideas of how the job can be done better and more inexpensively, when possible. He was always attuned to cost and function, and offered very sensible alternatives giving me a sense of how I could get the best quality for the dollar. 3) To be very easy to communicate with. We spoke by phone as necessary, exchanged photo issues and ideas on our phones, computers and tablets and he made on site visits regularly. He provided updates of the job progress so that I was never left wondering what would happen next and when and worked with me to resolve every issue that came up. 4) To be always meticulously careful that his work met code requirements and inspections. He was also willing to advocate with city inspectors to expedite a very sluggish inspection process. He worked hard to arrange all of his crew?s schedules to assure that the necessary craftsman was present when the inspectors would arrive. 5) To do REALLY BEAUTIFUL quality workmanship from the rough inspection level to the final work product. All the building inspectors are vocally very impressed with at each step of the way (e.g. rough inspection, plumbing, electrical, and final). Mike and his crew take true pride in their skill and workmanship. They are true and proud craftsmen of the highest order. Needless to say, Mike?s team is hard working, equally courteous, tight knit and internally loyal to one another with a great esprit décors. Just before I joined Angie?s List and found Mike Bauman, I worked with another construction company on another project in my home (I later found out that company had a C to C-minus Angie?s list rating). What a nightmare that earlier experience was. The difference between the two companies and the quality of their work was like night and day! Mike?s crew had to remove much of the plumbing work of the prior crew and it did not drive up the price for the project I did with Mike! Without hesitation or reservation, I would recommend Mike Bauman and company for any construction job you need done. I will be calling on him again whenever I have such a need

Mike and his crew repaired our porch. We had several water damage and some old insect issues that caused some damages to the porch. Mike repaired the porch. Although, initially gave me a list of items that he should do to repair the porch, his crew took a different approach but at the end, everything was fixed and I was happy with the quality of the work. Mike was also quite accessible and I found him to be an honest man and I highly recommend him. He may be a bit pricy but he will do a good quality job with no hassle. His crew were outstanding, they are great carpenter and believe me I have seem many carpenter.

I contacted Bauman Remodeling about getting an estimate for removing several windows in my kitchen and placing one new one. They contacted me by email to get more information about the job, but after I replied I didn't hear back.

He was really good. His staff was very professional. They cleaned up well after themselves. They were very prompt in responding to me. I would use him again and highly recommend him to others.
Description of Work: I had a fire in my basemnet. He did carpentry work.
When I met with Mike to discuss the project I appreciated that he listened to what I thought I wanted, offered suggestions, but did not force his ideas. Mike remained flexible and open to changes during the project. Everything was explained and discussed with me each day (when I was available due to a crazy schedule). One of my major concerns for this project was the wellbeing of my cats, Mike was the only contractor I spoke with who acknowledged this concern. Mike, Chris, and Rick did a wonderful job, the bamboo stair treads look wonderful, the finish on the stairway wall looks great. The whole team were professional and really nice! The electrician and painters that Mike brought in were also excellent. The project moved along well, Chris was meticulous about leaving the place clean at the end of each day. The final product looks amazing. I will not hesitate to use their services again.
Description of Work: Converted two interior staircases from carpet to hardwood, moved closet opening from living room to hallway, removed wall to open up hallway, moving electrical, plastering, painting of entire lower level

We called Mike from reading user reviews on Angies List. We had spoken to a number of contractors and Mike was the best among all of them in terms of responsiveness, professionalism, and price. We hired him and his crew to do a 3 built-in shelves for our new house in South End. Mike not only managed to fit us in (a lot of other contractors we spoke to, can only start in June) but also finished ahead of time!! The house was clean every day. The best is that the built ins look like they came with the house, which isn't easy given it's an old single family house. I have heard a lot of contractor horror stories, but Mike makes it easy. We still have a bunch of stuff to do in the house and we'll definitely call in Mike.
Description of Work: We needed 3 built-in shelves in 2 rooms. It wasn't a big job but we have a lot of moldings in the house so we needed someone who's experienced and has a good eye for design.

Other contractors claimed that the whole porch needed to be rebuilt or that major renovations were needed. They said they would have to replace all of the lattice and trim pieces in order to complete the repairs under the porch. Since there is access to this area Mike's crew was able to do that part of the job from underneath. They did not have to replace all the lattice and trim to do so. The only quibble is that a few times Mike had to delay scheduled meetings. At least when this happened he did call and let me know.
Description of Work: Replaced a rotted support post and several other rotten pieces under a porch. Also replaced two columns on the porch and repaired/replaced several other boards.
