Some initial difficulty setting up a time, in part bec of weather, but once it was a go, it went quite smoothly. An excavator was brought in, and removed the stumps and huge root systems, then the remaining holes were filled and smoothed. Dirt was spread over the area in the driveway where the asphalt was removed to allow access to the roots. Then a truck with new asphalt came in a filled in the area (approx 30'x20'). Big job.

Called Joe in the AM and the driveway was complete by 3pm the SAME day. Joe was professional and the work appears to be well done. I think I paid a premium for the fast service and I did not call for competitive pricing due to timing.

I called one telephone number listed on the Angie's site. A man answered and asked me to call the "main number" (also listed on Angies list) and leave the details on the recorder. They would get back to me quickly with a quote. I left all of the contact information, the exact square footage of the large driveway, the address. Never received any response! There are other recent reviews on the Angie's site describing exactly this lack of response. How can Angie's list still carry this service provider as an A, when multiple people are describing this lack of response and poor customer service?! Angie's list needs to look at recent trends in service as reported by subscribers and not just some distant past history that might have been OK. It makes me question the value of using Angies list.

They showed up at 9:20 and finished the entire job by 4:30 and this included an hour wait for the asphalt. They cleaned up everything. They worked hard and were very efficient and skilled at working all of the equipment in a small space. I honestly thought it would take a full 2 days. They dug way down and did an excellent job spreading lots of crushed stone and were very meticulous about making sure the grates were level. We were extremely pleased.

Joe did an excellant job. He does not use any recycled materials. He also was able to get a ledge out of the lawn for me. In addition to that he also used a better grade of asphalt because my driveway has an incline. He was able to make the driveway more level and also leveled the cement incline in front of my garage. This will be a tremendous help in the winter. The extra touches were a pleasant surprise! Joe and his crew were there on the date scheduled and did a professional job. I would recommend his company to someone else. He is also coming back in a month to do the sealcoat. Thanks so much Joe M Reynolds Arlington, MA

Joe and Primo Paving were great to deal with. They were very responsive, on time, and did great work. Would absolutely use them again.

I called the owner to schedule a quote. He asked me to call back and leave a voicemail with my information including name, phone number, address and description of the desired work. He assured me he would calI me back in a day or two. I did this and never received a call back. I can only assume that they used my address to determine that the job was too small for them. We ended up paying $3,100 to Reading Asphalt to do the work and are very satisfied with the results. I just feel that if this company is too busy to take certain jobs, they should just be politely honest about it. I would understand, but it seems a bit unprofessional to never call back.

Joe gave a clear description of the process and the quality of the materials he would use. On the day of the repaving, everything went very smoothly, and I'm very pleased with the results. Joe and his crew arrived on time, worked hard, and were very professional. The driveway looks great. Joe also had good ideas about solutions to some quirks in the layout of the driveway.

He was here on time. His equipment was good so he was able to get the work done right. He had another man with him and both were nice and did good work. I am pleased and would use the company again next time my driveway needs to be resealed.

Was pleased with their responsiveness. Bob, always returned calls and was clear about when work would be completed and when they would show up. After initial quote, was told their prices were a little on the high end, but the quality was worth it. I have no issues with paying more if the service and quality are good. Work was completed before a couple days of rain, we were told the crew would likely have to come back out to reseal the driveway. Received a call from Bob, that indeed the crew would be back out to reseal. When the crew returned were were told it would be $200 extra to do a complete reseal or no charge to touch up the areas that were not properly sealed. It was here when our 'A' experience dropped to a B or a C. I felt as if we were being mislead and that they were simply trying to gain an extra $200 from us, given the overall cost of the job and the fact that we were told the high price was worth it because of the quality, this was a major let down. We are on the fence about using them again, we like the responsiveness and communication, but felt a but taken advantage of.

Joe was very responsive and professional when I contacted him. He explained how he uses the best materials, equipment, and construction methods - including extra thick layers of stone, binder, and top coat that will make the driveway last. He noted that although it costs more, it is the right way to do it. He graciously offered to include in his price the relocation of my basketball net (that he said he does all the time), and the replacement of a section of degraded concrete sidewalk with the spare concrete he was having delivered for the curb widening. He noted that he would be at the job everyday overseeing everything. Though I had several much lower cost bids, I decided to choose Joe because of the gentlemen he is and the expectation that I would get a very high quality job. Unfortunately the quality of his work, oversight, cleanliness, and attention to detail did not match his premium price or the expectations he gave me. He clearly did good work in some areas of the driveway, but not in others. Puddles form in several depressed areas. Edges of the pavement are not well-defined - preventing me from getting a clean edge for lawn and beds. Several areas of my garage and fence are scraped and stained with asphalt. Portions of my concrete sidewalk, lawn, and street are stained with oil. For the expanded portion of my driveway that involved removing lawn, we agreed that I would keep the soil on the condition that he leave me with only a specific section of good material and he would remove and dispose of the rest. Unfortunately, he left me a pile that is mixed with pieces of concrete and asphalt, sub-base gravel, brick, and perennial vegetation that I had specifically asked him to exclude. I continue to work through the pile to screen out the loam and search for my bluestone stepping stone that we agreed he would remove and set aside. At the back end of the driveway and at the street where lawn had to be disturbed as part of the work, he filled the areas with poor materials, vegetation, and rubble incapable of growing grass. I had to manually remove and replace all the material before seeding.

I called a few different companies and I either didnt get a call back or the ones that came out to give me an estimate were much higher. Primo was quick on getting back to me and was right on time for the appointment. I decided to use Primo because,they have been in the business for over 30 years and it was a family run business.They arrived at 9 am and finished at 4pm.The owner himself was at the jobsite the entire time.They were in and out in one day and left the site spotless. They will be back in a month or so to seal the driveway. I would definitely refer them and use them again. Little did I know, after the fact, a friend had used them 8 years ago and also raved about them.

I called Primo twice and they never replied.

They showed up for the estimate, gave me a fair price, the crew was there on-time the day the work was scheduled, and not only did they do a great job but they did the job right (I researched it beforehand). The asphalt layer they laid over the stone they trucked in and tamped down was nice and thick, and they even put in a drywell for me on one side at their cost. We originally hired Primo Paving after hurricane Sandy because a very large tree feel in our front yard and needed to be removed. We told Joe we were in a rush because we were worried that the proximity of the hole to the driveway could be dangerous for children as well as vehicles. He empathized with our situation, rearranged his schedule to come that day to assess the work that needed to be done. After evaluating the work to be done he came the following day to complete the work. It looked great when he was done and he was very easy to work with. He definitely knows what he is doing and gave us a fair price. Just recently we contacted Joe to excavate and level our side yard which included moving rocks and clearing an area of scrub brush. He was very efficient and meticulous with the detail of work he performed. It is evident that he has been doing this type of work for years and makes it look easy. He plucked the various sized stones from the ground with ease and arranged them to make a beautiful backdrop for my future gardens. Joe and his crew turned what likely would have been an extensive project into a one day deal. Not only did they make quick work of this task but they went above and beyond the intended scope of the project by moving a large tree stump that has been an eyesore for years. I will definitely be hiring Joe and Primo Paving in the future and would highly recomend him to anyone who needs driveway or excavating/lawn work.

3 days in and out, very fast and great quality work!

On Wednesday 4/3/13, we called 4 companies - ( 3 never returned our call). We called Primo Paving and much to our surprise, a real person actually answered the phone. Bob said he could come out to the property that same day to take a look at the job and in approx. 2 hours - he was there. He gave a clear, detailed ,explanation of the process and a more than fair price quote for the job. We agreed on all of the terms and scheduled the work to be done the following Tuesday (weather permitting). It rained the night before the work was to be done so the job was rescheduled for the following day. Joe and a crew of about six others showed up first thing Wednesday morning and went straight to work. They where a well coordinated team who took great pride in the quality of their work which showed in the end result. The driveway looked fantastic ! We called the company 2 nights later at around 6pm with a small concern - Joe came to our home at approx. 8pm that night to address and resolve that concern. If only all business people dealt with their customers in this way . They will return in 2 weeks to seal the driveway. It was a painless and satisfying experience dealing with people of such character and yes, I would highly recommend them to others.

My husband and I wanted to repave and extend our driveway. We called Primo Paving. Spoke with a man named Joe. He said he could be to our home within the hour for an estimate. He was. We told him what we would like to do. We had an existing 2 car driveway and wanted to repave and extend it over so we could get a 3rd car in. He gave us an estimate and we accepted his bid. He took our phone number and said he would call in a few days. Which he did. He said he would start this morning Monday, April 8, 2013 at 9:00. Joe and his crew were here right on schedule. The worked professionally and efficiently and had the entire job finished by 2:00. The driveway looks great, it's perfect! My husband and I could not be happier. Joe explained exactly what he was going to do and showed up and did exactly what he said he would do. We would highly recommend Primo Paving to anyone who needs a driveway put in or other services of this nature. Thank you Joe and Crew

Joe was great. I originally called him for some information on how to repair the large gap between my driveway and garage, and he spent time just talking to me on the phone when I was not necessarily going to have any work done. He was very knowledgeable and extremely professional in explaining to me what I should do and why. He ended up coming out the next day to quote the work and then the following day to actually do it. He was prompt and accommodating and my repair looks great. I would definitely recommend him and will use him again in the future. He is also very reasonably priced.

Primo was good about meeting me, quoting the job, and working with me on the scheduling. The problems started when they started the installation: Primo didn't follow my prepared subgrade which resulted in the water not following the ideal path. That problem hasn't caused too much hardship. The serious deficiency was caused when they didn't role the asphalt at completion. This left me with an uneven surface which I have had to live with. I knew better and never should have paid for the job until it was rolled and made smooth, but I was so happy to have the job done that I put my brain away as I got out my checkbook.

Saw listing on Angie's List and called for estimate to sealcoat asphalt driveway and sidewalks. Joe called back later the same day and was out 2 days later on a Saturday morning to give us an estimate. Our neighbor was on vacation at the time so couldn't make a decision on the job till he returned the following week. Since weather is a factor with these jobs Joe couldn't confirm exactly when the job would be done. Joe called a few days later to let us know they would be there the next day - giving us time to move cars and sports equipment out of the driveway. Joe and 2 other workers showed up as expected and went right to work. Very nice guys, very professional. I would definitely hire them again. My neighbor was equally impressed.

Initial contact in the spring was great; call, response, first meet at my house, all good. We needed excavation and installation for a driveway. He expressed concern that the city would not approve a curb cut for our desired location because of its proximity to a 3-way intersection. He suggested an alternative and said he would meet with the inspector to see if we could do the first option, if not we'd proceed with the second option. He promised to call within the week. Two weeks went by before I called him. He said he was still trying to get time with the inspector and he would get back to me within a week. A couple weeks later I called again. He said his brother had met with the inspector, but not asked the right questions, so he was going to set up another meeting that he would take personally. Again, he was going to call me within a week. When a few more weeks went by and I hadn't heard from him I asked my husband to follow up. In addition to being tired of chasing him, he'd made a couple comments about how Malden's a city that "will take an envelope" which made me uncomfortable. My husband had two more rounds of "excuse/I'll call you in a week." We thought it interesting that the "envelope" was never mentioned to him. It was late into summer at this point so we decided to stop chasing him. He has yet to call us back. The only reason I didn't give an F is because neither of the two subsequent contractors we called (after we gave up on Primo) even returned the initial phone call. Perhaps our place is cursed by city hall, but it would be nice if someone would tell us.
