 + -1 moreI called Joe Primo last fall looking for an estimate to repave a large driveway and parking lot along with reinstallation of some walks. He said he was busy but took my information and said he would call me back. I never heard from him. Thinking it was too late in the season to do anything I called him again this Spring. Again he said he was starting up and busy but to call back on the same number leave my name and number and he would call me back. Again I never heard from him. Perhaps he has plenty of work but if he fails to call back on two separate occasions I have to wonder about integrity and follow through regarding a job. Needless to say I have since obtained quotes from others.
Description of Work: Tried to obtain quotes on two separate occasions.

The only reason we did not hire him is that we just don't have the funds for this kind of work right now. However, when the time comes, I will call Joe up immediately. He really impressed us and we so much appreciated his time, patience, and great ideas.
Description of Work: Joe Primo came over last Sunday to give us an estimate on our front and back yard. We talked about repaving the driveway, and leveling out the back yard, as well as either reseeding or putting sod over the whole lawn. He spent about an hour with us.

 + -1 moreJoe Primo returned my phone call and came out to give me an estimate within a week. He was very honest about the timing to get started and actually started earlier than expected. He and his foreman Ritchie were on site from the start until completion, making sure the job was done right the first time. Despite finding that the concrete to be removed was a lot thicker than expected, the price did not take a dramatic jump, as I've encountered with other contractors when unexpected work is found in the job process. These guys are fantastic and I can't wait to use them again. I know that they are super busy, but they are well worth the wait.
Description of Work: We have recently purchased a house and the garage floor was breaking at the edge and was badly cracked. The floor also had a huge lip between it and the driveway. They removed the old concrete and asphalt, put down stone, compacted it and poured new concrete. Then when that was dry came in and laid new asphalt to create a ramp to the new garage floor. They will be coming back in a few weeks to fill the cracks and sealcoat the entire driveway.

 + -1 moreWE HAD SEVERAL ESTIMATORS COME OUT, TWO OF WHOM SAID THAT THE JOB WE WANTED COULDN'T EVEN BE DONE. JOE NOT ONLY DID A GREAT JOB, BUT WAS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE BID BY SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. HE FINISHED IN TWO DAYS AND ACCOMMODATED CHANGES AS THE JOB PROGRESSED. I WAS SO PLEASED THAT SHORTLY THEREAFTER I REFERRED HIM TO PAVE A DRIVEWAY AT MY MOTHER'S HOUSE. HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB THERE AS WELL, AND GOT TWO OTHER JOBS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD FROM FOLKS WATCHING THE WORK.
Description of Work: REMOVED A TREE, PORTIONS OF ROCK WALL, AND SOIL FROM A HILLSIDE. LEVELED THE AREA, INCLUDING BUILDING UP PORTIONS OF THE DOWNHILL SIDE WITH SOIL AND BOULDERS. PAVED A DRIVEWAY AND 25 FEET OF WALKWAY, MATCHING LEVEL OF EXISTING STAIRCASE AND CONCRETE STEPS.

Description of Work: WE HAD A LARGER DRIVEWAY THAN I HOPED, WHICH MEANT THE COST FOR ASPHALT, DUE TO OIL PRICES, WAS OUT OF SITE. IT WAS TO REMOVE AND REDO OUR CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY, PRIMO'S QUALITY FOR DOING THE JOB SHOULDN'T BE COMPROMISED. HE BEGAN THE JOB WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF GIVING ME THE ESTIMATE, AND FINISHED THE JOB IN 4 DAYS. HE WAS ON-SITE OPERATING THE MACHINERY AND SUPERVISING THE OTHERS. HE WAS VERY METICULOUS. HE ENDED UP HAVING TO USE A LOT MORE GRAVEL THAN HE HAD EXPECTED, BECAUSE THE SECTION OF THE YARD THAT HE DUG UP HAD ABOUT FOUR FEET OF LOAM THAT HE NEEDED TO DIG OUT. HE DID NOT ASK FOR ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR THAT. HE GRADED THE DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS VERY LARGE, VERY NICELY SO THAT ALL THE WATER RUNS AWAY FROM THE HOUSE AND GARAGE, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE DRIVEWAY AND OUT ONTO THE STREET. YOU CAN TELL HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND HE CARES ABOUT DOING A GOOD JOB. HE IS VERY HONEST.
Description of Work: DUG UP OLD DRIVEWAY AND PART OF YARD SO AS TO MAKE AN OFF-STREET TURN AROUND. PUT DOWN 6'' OF GRAVEL AND 4'' OF ASPHALT. USED NEW, RATHER THAN RECYCLED, ASPHALT AND USED GRAVEL, NOT CRUSHED CONCRETE.

I APPRECIATED THAT HE WAS WILLING TO OFFER A PATCH SOLUTION AND GET THE JOB DONE. THE RESULT ISN'T NECESSARILY PRETTY, BUT THIS WAS A CONSIDERATION OF FUNCTION OVER FORM.
Description of Work: A SINK HOLE DEVELOPED 6' FROM A DRIVEWAY STORM DRAIN. WITH THE COLLAPSED PIPE, RAINWATER CREATED A LAKE INSTEAD OF BEING CARRIED AWAY IN THE PIPE. THREE CONTRACTORS (2 NOT FROM THE LIST), EACH OFFERED DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS. ALL REQUIRED DIGGING UP A FAIR AMOUNT OF A RELATIVELY NEW DRIVEWAY, DIGGING AND CREATING A LARGER CATCH BASIN, AND EXCAVATING A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MY YARD ALONG THE PIPE, EITHER TO REPLACE PART OF THE PIPE OR THE ENTIRE 150'. WORK SCOPE AND QUOTES WERE OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE. WHEN I SHARED MY BUDGET AND DIGGING CONCERNS, JOE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO OFFERED A LESSER OPTION AS A PATCH THAT WILL HOPEFULLY LAST A DECADE OR MORE. AS A GRANDMOTHER, I'M HOPING IT WILL OUTLIVE ME. HE ARRANGED FOR A SCOOP TO CLEAN OUT THE EXISTING DRAIN, CUT OUT A SMALL AREA OF THE DRIVEWAY, REPLACED THE SECTION OF PIPE FROM THE DRAIN TO THE BREAK, AND REASPHALTED THE PATCH. DURING RAINSTORMS, WATER NOW HAPPILY FLOWS DOWN THE PIPE TO THE SIDE OF A HILL.

HIS PRICE WAS AMONG THE TWO LOWEST AND WHEN THE JOB TURNED OUT TO BE MORE COMPLEX THAN ANTICIPATED, DUE TO DOUBLE THICK CONCRETE IN THE MIDDLE AND REQUIRING EXTRA STONE AND RESETTING PART OF MY BRICK WALKWAY, HE ONLY CHARGED A REASONABLE EXTRA $200. HE ACCOMMODATED MY SCHEDULE WHICH WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THE JOB CAME OUT GREAT. HE CARES ABOUT HIS WORK.
Description of Work: WORK INVOLVED REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF OLD CONCRETE DRIVEWAY AND INSTALLATION OF NEW LARGER ASPHALT DRIVEWAY. NEW DRIVEWAY WAS APPROXIMATELY ONE CAR WIDE BY THREE CARS LONG. INSTALLATION INVOLVED 3 TO 10 INCHES OF CRUSHED STONE AND 3 TO FIVE INCHES OF ASPHALT.
