On Thursday, October 20th, I called Quality Doors and spoke with Darrell. He seemed pleasant on the phone but I later discovered he was anything but pleasant. I inquired if he had a steel, 6 panel, 36” x 79” slab door. I told him I didn’t want any holes or mortises as I was replacing a wood door and didn’t want to take chance of hinges and door knob not aligning correctly. While on the phone, he walked to his “warehouse” and said he did not have that door in stock. He said he had a flat door but not a 6 panel. I asked if he could order it. He stated he could have one in here Monday for $125. I asked of his location (as I thought I was speaking with Franks Doors in Baton Rouge), and he then told me he was in Prairieville. I being from Zachary, wasn’t too keen on driving out to Prairieville so I told him I’d try and find one closer..., yet if I was unable to, I’d call him back and have him order it. Friday I called Darrell back and asked him to order the door. He wanted me to refresh his memory as to who I was, so I did and told him the style door as well. He assured me it would not come with door knob hole or mortises for hinges and it would be in Monday. Monday rolls around so I try calling him. Phone went to a message stating a particular mailbox was full. I tried repeated times and hours later, he answered. I asked if the door came in. He said he was on the road and he’d call his warehouse and verify, then he would return my call. Two hours passed and no call. So again, it took multiple tries before he answered. I was successful in reaching him via my cell phone (which was unknown to him). He said the door was in, but I didn’t want to drive out that late. He said I could come Tuesday but it would be in the evening before I could pick it up as he was apparently going to be away from his office. I said I didn’t want to fight evening traffic from Zachary to Prairieville that late, so I’d try and pick it up tomorrow (Wednesday). Called Darrell around noon on Wednesday to get his address so I could come pick it up. He provided me with his address on Germany Rd. I drove over, backed into drive as he was loading up his trailer with some pre-hung doors with I suppose was his employees. I’m in a wheelchair, so before I could get my chair out of the truck, his employee asked where I wanted the door. I replied, in the back of the truck. I’ve got a camper shell on the back, so by the time I got out of my truck, he already had the door in the back, camper shell shut. I confirmed the size of the door with him and he said it was in fact 36” wide and 79” tall. I then asked Darrell if he took a credit card. He said “No! Cash or check.” He then said, “You don’t need a ticket, do you? Because I just ran out of them”. I said, “No, that’s fine.”..., then I wrote him a check for $125, got back in my truck and left for Zachary. I pulled into the Zachary Home Depot to get some paint for the door, and while getting my chair out, I peered over and could see some of the door (as it was leaning against my tailgate) and I saw it was flat. I called Darrell right then, before I even got out of my truck and told him this door was not a 6 panel, but rather a flat door. He said “We discussed this. If I couldn’t get a 6 panel, I’d get you a flat door.” I said politely, I don’t recall having that conversation at all Darrell. Yet, I was many miles from Prairieville by now and I just figured I’d accept a flat door, paint it and it would be good enough. Thursday morning, I got up, was waiting for assistance from my brother to come unload door for me, but figured I’d see if I could do it myself. Dropped tailgate down, pulled it out on padded sawhorses and immediately saw mortises where the hinges attach. It was all primed except for these mortises, which was fresh wood. There was also a small dent on the face of the door. I grabbed my tape measure, compared it to my existing hinges on door frame and saw it wasn’t going to match. Wheeled into house to stop payment on check, but he had already cashed it yesterday (Wednesday). I called him back and informed him of the mortises on the door. Again, he replied with “Listen...., we discussed this...” I interrupted him and said “No, you listen, we didn’t discuss this. I ordered a 6-panel door without mortises and I have one that is neither of the two, and..." He quickly interrupted back with “Who the f--- do you think you are?" I asked him the same. His reply was: "Bring the g.d. door back then." I said I would bring it back but it wasn’t going to end there. Conversation ended. He called me back a minute later, said he was in Baton Rouge and he’d come pick the door up if I provided him my address, which I did. While waiting, I called the manufacturer and inquired if that model (I provided her with the model number) came with mortises for the hinges. She said that some did and some did not, but that if they were mortised, they were all primed down the wood edge of the door. This door was not. Appears he had this door in his “warehouse” a year or so (date on door was 04-2015) that was returned for whatever reason after mortising for hinges and he wanted to get rid of it. He came, walked up to me, didn’t say a word, pulled out a roll of bills, peeled off what appeared to be six twenty’s and gave to me, then pulled out a five and handed it to me. My fault for not counting it correctly as he performed a "slight of hand" trick. I put the bills in my checkbook cover while he took the door to his truck. I said “That door..." (I was going to let him know I called the manufacturer and knew that door had been modified), but he interrupted me and said “I don’t want to talk to you brother”..., chuckled as he got in his truck and drove off. Read on to see why he chuckled. I pulled the money he presented me with, out of my checkbook cover 30 minutes later and realized he had only given me $105 (not $125). This guy not only lies, but he cheats as well, and doesn’t care if the fella is handicapped in wheelchair on a fixed income or not.
Description of Work: Sold me an old, dented, modified flat steel door when he was supposed to order a new 6 panel steel door. Cussed me out on the phone after calling him twice about it, then cheated me out of $20 on refund. Contrary to his initial phone persona, this 53 year old man was obnoxious, used extreme profanities in speaking to me after I contacted him twice regarding the problem, and then intentionally withheld monies from refund due to me..., a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair.

I was originally impressed with Daryl's professionalism and willingness to perform the work. He appeared very knowledgeable in regards to the installation of the 3 doors. His price was fair compared to others, so I gave him a chance. He told me it would be a 2 week turnaround for installation. I paid half of the $2300 estimate up front and waited for the doors to be made. 5 weeks later, Daryl called to schedule the install, but failed to tell me 2 of the 3 doors had been fabricated wrong. His crew installed one of the doors, but it would be an additional 2 weeks to fabricate new doors. After many attempts to call / email / text, I received no updates from Daryl. When I finally called from an unknown phone number, Daryl picked up. We had a discussion on when the doors would be installed and he confirmed an installation within 3 days. The night prior to the scheduled install he sends me a text that says there will be a 50% chance of rain the next day, and he would have to reschedule. Since rain should not be a factor in the installation of these 2 doors, I questioned the reasoning. Daryl then told me that it didn't appear this would work out, and I could find someone else to replace the remaining 2 doors. I asked him not to take any offense in my questioning of the delay, especially since it was now 8 weeks from when I originally ordered the doors, and please install them so that I wouldn't have to start all over. He said he would contact me when he got into the office that day, but I have not heard back from him since. I guess I will have to start all over again with another door company. I went by Puperra lumber in Gonzales, and they recommended Ascension Door, and was not at all surprised by my experience with Daryl Dispensire. Oh well, at least I didn't overpay for the services provided, but unfortunately my 2 week door install will end up being more like 3 months.
