Response from Mike Perry Masonry
In response to negative review left on October 11, 2017: Mike Perry Masonry has been in business for over 27 years with zero complaints from any of my customers that I have ever worked for and since I have been with Angie's List, I have obtained over 100 A+ reviews. When this person called me on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, she stated that a truck had hit her brick mailbox and that she needed an estimate to turn into the trucker's insurance company. Although her address is out of my service area, I considered her call. I told her that I am not interested in giving free estimates to potential customers who do not intend to replace the mailbox and are misleading the insurance company (and the contractor) in order to get a check from the insurance company. I have always been under the impression that this act was considered insurance fraud. Furthermore, I told her that this wastes my time and money when I have to drive back and forth to the job site, draw up the estimate, match up the brick, put work order in my schedule, then they do not have the courtesy to call me back so that I can update my schedule and move on the the next job. She went on to reassure me that she was not just using me for the purpose of getting an insurance check and that she intended to have the mailbox replaced and that she wanted me to do the job. She emailed me with the insurance company's information that same day and asked me to send them the estimate. On Thursday, August 24th, 2017, I emailed the estimate to the insurance company, just as she asked me to, and I CC'd her on the email. I told her I would put a work order in ASAP, but that I was out about a few weeks. On Tuesday, September 19th, 2017, I sent her an email stating that we will be starting mailbox the following week. She responded immediately to tell me that they will be out of town for fall break. I responded to ask did she want me to move it to the following week, and she replied "Let me talk with my husband. Thank you." Almost a month went by with no word from her, so I called her cell phone on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017. When she answered, she asked who was calling, I told her who I was and she hung up on me. By now I am convinced that she is avoiding me and that she truly only used me to get the insurance check. I never worked for this person and I feel it is very unfair for her to leave a negative review when I never performed any work for this person. I feel that I was honest with her from the beginning about my intentions, and that this would not be happening if she had been honest in the beginning, too. As a result of this lesson, I am in the process of updating my procedures in submitting estimates to insurance companies.
