I called and connected with Paul easily. He came out and provided an estimate promptly and was very professional. I found someone who could do it for less, but I was very comfortable with Paul.
Description of Work: Paul provided an estimate for repair of a brick retaining wall.

Paul responded to my request for an estimate quickly, and scheduled the work within one week of giving him the go-ahead. Between the visit for the estimate and the date to start the work, I altered my plans for the planter, making it much larger than originally planned. On the morning Paul started the project, Paul worked with me on the design changes, we agreed on the new price, and he and his assistant started the work. The second day, Paul had a crew of four working with him, and after the crew left, Paul worked until dark laying brick. The project basically took three days, with just detail work and clean-up on a fourth day. Paul's experience came in handy when addressing issues such as drainage from the planter, and his design ideas in laying the brick were great. The cost of the project was expensive, but competitive and worth it. I couldn't be more pleased with Paul's work, and would recommend him in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: I had a front concrete step that was in bad shape, and had Paul encase this with brick pavers. He also covered the landing and a sidewalk leading from the driveway to the landing. In addition, he constructed a large L-shaped brick planter around the landing.

He was responsive to my initial call. He came over quickly and on schedule. He gave a competive price (I got multiple estimates). Once commissioned, he moved forward quickly. He executed on price and on schedule.
Description of Work: I needed my chimney cap rebuilt. He did a good quality job. It looked great when he did it, and it still looks great a year later. I am planning to use him for some additional masonry work.

Very responsive and punctual. Paul set a time when he anticipated the work would be done. When something came up to delay him slightly (by a day) he called immediately to inform me of the delay. I can't rate price (because I have nothing to which to compare the price). I can't rate quality because I can't get up to the chimney to see the result.

After playing phone tag for a few days with a woman answering the phone, who was very positive, I finally talked to Paul Hopkins. After describing the work as a new chimney crown and brick repair Paul said he didn't want to travel as far as Kearney, MO. I told him it was in the middle of Clay county because his ad stated he covers Clay county. Paul then said it would be about $1,400.00 which sounded about right from what I've read on here. I felt like he thought the price might scare me off and it would save him a drive to Kearney. I selected him because of his rating on Angie's list and actually was ready to accept a quote in this range and not shop around. He agreed to come and look at the chimney but I never heard from him again. The only damage done was to waste my time and his and to irritate me. I can't abide people who commit to something and then just leave you hanging. I don't run my business that way and would expect my customers to shy away if I did, If Mr. Hopkins doesn't want to do work in Clay county he should remove it from his ad.

It went extremely well on both occassions and I think the details are above.
Description of Work: On this visit he repaired the exterior masonary on my chimney. The property is almost 50 years old and there had never been any maintenance on the outside of the chimney except to seal it. He set a scaffold for safety and worked a very long day with one helper to complete the job. They cleaned up very well when they were completed. After the mortar cured, there is no visible sign that any work was done to the chimney. I was quite pleased. He came back on 6/22/12 and regrouted the firebox inside after the chimney sweep cleaned. He was very neat and I was satisfied with the work. I would have him back again in the future.

He had to build scaffolding to do the repair work and he laid down a tarp on our deck to prevent any damage from falling bricks or mortar. He had one helper and everything was done professionally. The only thing he didn't do was caulk where the brick meets the house because he said he doesn't do caulking. It would have been nice to have that done as well so we wouldn't have to get someone else to do that part. Despite that, we liked Paul enough that we asked him back again to do some brick repair on our front steps and replace a brick that had fallen out in an arch above one of our front windows. That job was done nicely, too, at a total cost of $345.
Description of Work: Paul removed the top 4 rows of brick from the chimney and replaced with new bricks. He also replaced cracked mortar on the chimney cap and tuckpointed various other places on the rest of the chimney. All that work cost $885, and he also sealed the whole chimney for an additional $250.

I called Mr. Hopkins for an estimate, calling him first out of 3 masons because of his high reviews on Angie's List. He showed up on time, spoke with me for about 10 min. about the scope of the work, & took measurements for an estimate. I waited a week for the estimate, called him about 6 times over the next 2-3 weeks and was never able to reach him, nor did he return any of my phone messages. I find this conduct very unprofessional.
Description of Work: I needed some fairly major rebuilding & repairs done to the stone block foundation under a bump-out on my 1916 Brookside home. Approx. sizes are a 5' wall, 12-15' wall & 10' wall, all 3' high.

Paul responded promptly to my call and came out the same day to provide an estimate to fix masonry on the outside of the chimney and check the inside for needed cleaning or repairs. He was the the only one of several companies I called who was willing to look at the inside of the fireplace without charging up front for an inspection. He performed the work promptly after I requested that it be completed a month later. He did the work with me absent and billed me.

We needed to replace the interior brick on a fireplace for a rental home. I don't remember the cost but he was very competitive and had excellent references. He showed up on time and did a great job! Masonary work by its nature is kind of messy but he was very neat and he cleaned up the area when he was finished. I would definitely use him again.

Brick front of my little Prairie Village house was crumbling and totally coming apart. They replaced some bricks and reused some of the bricks. It looks FABULOUS! Price was VERY competitive. They were the FIRST company to return an estimate. Got the work done less than a week later. Because it is winter time he had to work around the weather. Also they have work comp insurance and liability insurance which is very important. I am very glad I chose Paul's company.

I contacted Mr. Hopkins just before Thanksgiving for a bid to tuck point the front stoops of my house, evaluate and repair chimney if needed, and take care of a couple areas needing tuck point repair. He came promptly Thanksgiving eve, called within a day or so with the bid which I accepted and began work a few days later. Arrived early in a.m., worked all day andcleaned up area as was done. When he was almost through I asked about looking at my fireplace on the inside where it needed mortar repair, he told me the cost and finished it the day he came back to clean the bricks.I would recommend Mr. Hopkins and his excellent work without hesitation. I've had less than pleasant experiences with home repair in the past. This was a dream.
Description of Work: Mr. Hopkins tuck pointed the two stoop at the front of the house as well as a couple areas on porch and on side of house. He also repaired the chimney and mortar work on the my fireplace on inside. It looks great.
