I hired Josh mostly to save 35% of the cost of quotes from other companies. There were great reviews online, so we went ahead and trusted this was not a budget version. We were removing carpet and tile from every room except the bathrooms and installing solid hardwood floors (including the stairs). We wanted engineering in our basement, refinishing the first room of existing hardwood floors, and wanted everything to match as close as possible. The quote process was fantastic. Josh was polite, professional, and gave us a very quick to respond. The demo and installation crew were great! They did a great job and the floors looked fantastic. The sanding and staining crew were also very nice and helped me to choose the perfect color to have everything match. Despite the great customer service and friendly, timely crew during the demo and installation, I was quite disappointed with the quality assurance and the finishing aspects of the job. To begin with, we found several issues with the wood splintering and having some deep divots--and found this only after all the finishing. They could not really fix it without replacing an entire board, so we decided against an entire extra week of work. The fix was using a wood filler that did not match well and even a month later is noticeable. Because we are putting down a rug, we are looking past this. Next, they took two days longer to complete the job than communicated throughout the entire process. I get that the important things were done on time, but it was frustrating to not have the simple things like appliances moved back in place, and the finishing shoe installs to take so long. Additionally, and probably most frustrating for me, the shoe was just outright poorly done. I still have to fix the inaccurate cuts of the shoe (my floor vents will not fit in place because the show is 1/8 inch off in some cases). There were gaps and all-around imperfect cuts that I am fixing with caulk before painting. In the kitchen we wanted the shoe to match the cabinets, so I had to stain it myself. I thought no problem, they the pre-cut pieces for me to stain and finish and I did. However, after the fact, we found out they did not leave enough pieces and installed raw unfinished shoes for the rest of the kitchen. Now I have the tedious task of either ripping out what they put in, to stain and reinstall, or carefully staining and finishing what is already installed. Lastly, the dust. Josh said it was not going to be bad, but it was pretty bad. I have spent the entire month constantly dusting, vacuuming, cleaning every crevice, nook, and cranny. Even the walls were covered in dust. The crew cleaned up the floors well but did not clean up the baseboards, windowsills, fans, or anything else. Just be upfront and tell people there will be a lot of dust. Although the price was very good, in the end, I wish we had paid a little bit more to have the product finished as it should be. The floors look great, and I wish the quality of the final bits would have matched the rest of the experience. If you have the time and expertise to fix up the shoe and want to clean up the dust yourself, Josh is a great way to save money. Otherwise, you might be better off with a more expensive company that will ensure the entire process is flawless. TLDR; Great price, average quality, great floors and color match, poor quality assurance, and awful shoe install.
