+ 0 moreOn Friday 11/16 the installer from Cinder Box came to complete work--only 3 day later. We burned a fire later and was happy to have this taken care of.
Description of Work: I was looking for chimney sweep and I found The Cinder Box in the November issue in Angie's List coupon section for $25.00 off for members. When I called the person who answered the phone was able to give me an appt. at my convenience . the tech.(T. J. Reed) arrived on time. Completed the job quickly and showed me what needed to be repaired. Gave an estimate, placed the order chimney cover of stainless steel and accepted 50% payment. Stated it may take up to a week. Also provided info. on changing wood burning to gas/propane. An d of course cleaned up fireplace.

+ 0 moreI received a recommendation to solicit a chimney/fireplace company to inspect a chimney of a home we were interested in purchasing, specifically because the wood-burning fireplace was using a gas insert, and we would want to revert to burning wood in the fireplace. After initially scheduling an inspection that was more than a week out, I was called back and offered an earlier inspection date, which I gladly accepted. Met the employee on-site. After inspecting the interior fireplace box he went on the roof to inspect the chimney area. He found damage to the chimney lining and was able to provide rough estimates of two potential options (full sleeving of the chimney to the existing fireplace box, or installation of a wood-burning insert with its own flue that would travel up the existing chimney). After informing the seller, they called another company to a**** and provide repairs as needed, and they found the same issues and re-sleeved the chimney prior to the sale. I highly recommend the Cinder Box or any other chimney servicing company to specifically inspect a wood-burning fireplace or stove as part of any home purchase -- saved me thousands in repairs!

+ 0 moreCompany representative arrived at stated time and checked for proper air flow from vent outside the house. It was less than half of what is should have been. Trouble shooting revealed the vent was cramped and torn causing the lint to collect at the back of the dryer, instaead of flowing out the vent. Repair was completed and the appropriate flow reestablished.
Description of Work: Dryer vent tested, repaired and serviced. Optimal flow restored.

He examined the chimney from inside the house and from on top of the roof. He cleaned the chimney and answered some random questions that I had. Description of Work: I called Monday late morning and got an appointment same day in late afternoon as my issue involved the fireplace and not the chimney itself. I had an old system of gas logs. Tim was so professional and pleasant to deal with and tidy too. He didn't push me to buy expensive stuff. When I asked him the price difference between keeping it as a gas fireplace vs a wood burning fireplace (which I prefer) he stated that it would be much less expensive to convert it back to woodburning. The cost was unbelievably low and his work was very thorough. I will never use any other company, but the CinderBox

+ -1 moreHe was polite and knowledgeable and I was grateful for the peace of mind of enjoying our wood burning fireplace this winter.
Description of Work: I had the Cinder Box come out to my house to clean and inspect the chimney. Since I work they were able to schedule a time when I would be home. I was unfamiliar with the chimney and it's condition as I was a new owner of the house and didn't want to use the fireplace until it was inspected. TJ Reed explained in detail the large and unusual shaped smoke chamber. He explained the flue was in good shape and his only recommondation was to seal the top part of the chimney to prevent cracks that could be costly down the road.

About an hour later, Tim called and said he was in the area and would stop by to see what he could do. He arrived 10 minutes later and had my fireplace repaired and running in about half an hour! He was very careful to keep my floor clean in front of the fireplace and to clean up any mess he made. Very satisfied!

+ -1 moreIt was a great experience. With the right knowledge, experience and tools, cleaning a chimney is quick job. Since chimneys are a potential fire hazard, more people should take advantage of these professionals!!!
Description of Work: The house I bought had a chimney and no one knew if it had ever been cleaned. What a great experience! The man was professional, had all the right tools and made no mess at all in my house. When I told him I was concerned about the hot air leaking up the chimney, he suggested that I check around for a magnetic cover that would stick to the frame around the firebox. The magnetic cover is easy to take off if I want to have a fire and I have a nice clean chimney!!

+ -1 moreThe Technician was very careful not to spill any ash on my floor as he cleaned my chimney. He answered my questions completely and seemed knowledgeable about various aspects of my fireplace. He went on the roof and checked out my chimney from the top and found the cap missing. He told me what I needed and had one that would fit on the chimney that I had. He climbed back on roof and replaced it at no added labor cost. The only cost was the cap itself.
Description of Work: Chimney cleaning and inspection. Purchase and replacement of Chimney cap that was missing from chimney. I did not notice that it was missing and replacing this important part of my chimney safety & will help prevent fires from possible ash deposits on my roof.

He was going to clean my dryer vents, but determined that they needed to be replaced. The old flexible lines had holes. They worked me into the schedule the following day. Tim, the owner, reran the dryer lines. Overall I was very happy with the work and would hire them again.

They were very nice in helping me to set up an appointment and allowed me to purchase the special through Angie's List after setting up the appointment. TJ called before the appointment to ask if he could come early. He was professional and did a good job with the cleaning and inspection of my fireplace and chimney. He laid down several tarps to protect my rug and flooring. Very good overall experience.

+ -1 moreOverall I felt safe to use my fireplace regardless as to what he suggested I fix or change in the future. I think if he had backed up his story by offering me to come up and take a look for myself I may have taken what he found under consideration. I trust that he did his job the cleaning appeared to be a good sweep and that was the service I needed provided.
Description of Work: The gentleman arrived on time he didn't explain in detail what he would be doing he just got started. He put a vaccum in the fireplace to let it run for a while and sucked out all the debri. He checked the top fluke and after he inspected the fireplace he came back with an estimate of $3,000 saying it was defective due to the way it was originally constructed. Well I just purchased this home on 07/24/2012 after having two inspection performed prior to closing I didn't feel he was being honest with me. I felt like he was just trying to make more money on the service call by using scare tactics. I thought about his findings and decided to call the seller personally to ask them if they had any bad experiences with the fire place and they said no. I was told by the previous owner that they had always use this beautiful lime stone fireplace for several years without any problems ever. This home is sound and sturdy built in 1940 all brick home back when materials were of much better quality then they use today. I decided to listen to the previous home owner as she lived in this home for 53 long years. He probably based his findings on how things are constructed today. The gentleman seemed to know his trade after he consulted with me I didn't feel the need to change anything nor was I concerned with the negative inspection report I received.

+ -1 moreI called The Cinder Box on August 22, 2012 inquiring about having a refractory panel replaced in our fireplace insert. I spoke with Lisa and she was extremely helpful explaining she needed some information about the insert in order to locate the panel. She also explained this was a project we could probably do ourself. I called her back the next morning with the insert information she needed and by mid afternoon, THE SAME DAY, she had located a panel LOCALLY! We picked up the panel that evening and installed it when we got home. Here it is August 24, 2012 and as I write this review, my problem has been fixed. When we go to have the chimney sweeped, we will be calling The CInder Box. It is very rare that a homeowner can find a company so willing to help that they even admit that a project could be handled by the homeowner. This company cares more about customer service that the almighty dollar. Thank you!!

+ 0 moreOur house is quite tall because it’s built into a hill, and I appreciate that they were able to handle this with ease. Since they completed their repairs, I no longer have cold air and rain coming through the chimney. I think they did great work, and I would give them my recommendation.
Description of Work: This company is able to perform a wide variety of repairs. We contacted them because water was getting into our chimney. They replaced the one of the metal pipes, installed custom made flashing, and insulated it as well.
