The salesman who gave me the estimate was very helpful and answered many questions. He explained all of my options which helped me make a more informed decision. A couple of items that needed repair were overlooked by the first crew. However, when I called in about this, the company was very prompt in getting another crew out to finish the job. Everybody was friendly and professional. I would certainly recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: The company repaired sill plate and joist damage, installed jacks, replaced crawlspace entry, and installed a vapor barrier. The work done in a low crawlspace.

Overall, the experience was positive. The technician was very good about answering any questions we had. They did what they said they would do, and they were willing to work with our time frame. I had them give me a bid for two different projects, but then they ended up giving me a better deal if I got both jobs done at the same time within a specific time frame. Their price was reasonable. The entire process went smoothly and I would recommend their services; in fact, we've already recommend them to our neighbors.
Description of Work: Basement waterproofing: installed water-guard system in our basement (cut out walls to install this system) and installed discharge pump. Also, we had an existing wall that had moved in as far as our basement, and they had installed some steel foundation barriers with wall exterior anchors. In the spring, we had them install a battery back-up system as well.

He said it would be about $1200 to fix. My husband asked what if it doesn't fix it and they explained that that's what the warranty is for. They came back out the next week and the salesman had said they would be injecting foam into areas to fill the leak and would also patch it. We wrote a check for the full amount and the work was done. We had rainfall come down the following week and the area was still exposed and water was coming through. We called them back, and they came out to look at it. This was yesterday. The guy said that the work was done and that they should have done a wrap around the wall, which would have only been $400 dollars in the first place. I called them last night and explained the issue to them. I asked the supervisor if he had discussed what was going on with the workers. He claimed that it was my husbands fault because it was done the way the salesman told him it needed to be done. The salesmans name is Dave Harting. The supervisor and I got into a heated discussion. I told them I wanted them to refund the difference and for them to come out to fix it the proper way and we'd all be happy. He said "no" and that they were not doing that. I again told him to just come out to fix it and he told me not to yell at him and that it was done that way because my husband wanted it done the way the salesman wanted it done. The conversation ended and the salesman called me an hour later. I explained everything and he said that they were not coming out unless my husband was there. I explained my husband was at work and they still refused. I then told them that my husband would be there. They showed up at my door today without notice and I brought them down into the basement to look at the spot. I told them I just wanted them to fix it. They said they were not even going to discuss it because my husband was not there. I explained that he is a physician and that it's difficult for him to leave work right away but he was getting there as soon as he could. My 21 year old daughter was present and heard everything.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our foundation and the salesman came out and gave us a quote to fix this leak in the corner.

The workers who came out were friendly, great communicators, clean and professional. They had to dig a large trench around the area of our house affected, but they were very careful about avoiding drainage systems, a special tree we wanted to keep, and of course, our utilities. They carefully lifted our house back to where the cracks were very small and we could again lock our windows. When they were done, they replaced the dirt and tamped it down. I would highly recommend this company, even though we had to wait about 1 1/2 months for the service because they are so busy. But, they were excellent, and very trustworthy and we would definitely hire them again if needed.
Description of Work: We had 8 piers put in around part of our crawlspace that was making a portion of our family room "sink" about 3/4". We had cracks in our exterior brick and mortar, some minor cracking on our inside drywall, and our windows were not able to lock. We had gotten other bids and one contractor told us we would have to pay $600 to remove our windows prior to "lifting" our house. IFS did not need to remove our windows at all. IFS had a reasonable bid, but not the lowest bid. However, we went with them because we felt the most confident that they knew what they were doing. The salesman came to our house twice because I had further questions after the first appointment and after I had met with about 4 other contractors. He did a good job of explaining what we needed to have done.

Indiana Foundation Service was our fourth estimator in a search for a company to replace the 1900 sq ft of vapor barrier in our crawl space and remove all old materials, including moldy subfloor insulation. After 3 other estimates in the $6,000 range for very nice plans but much more involved than we felt we needed, Rick Oxendine came up with a solution that included taking out the old materials, replacing the vapor barrier, and spraying for any residual mold on surfaces. I so appreciated the advice and insight he shared with us, as well as information sent ahead of time in the mail. The packet included names of customers in Carmel so I was able check someone I knew personally besides the Angie's List reports. On the designated day for the work, three guys donned jumpsuits and masks, etc., for removing the old materials after 30 years of accumulation of dirt, dust, and, more recently, mold. An extra truck and more workers came later to haul away the mountains of old batting which they stuffed into humongous bright yellow bags. The installation of the new vapor barrier and spraying of the entire space was completed by mid-afternoon. We were very pleased with the workers as well as the work, their respectful explanations when I had questions, and the timely completion of the job.
Description of Work: Removal of old subfloor batting-type insulation and crawl space floor covering; installation of new vapor barrier, spraying of surfaces to eliminate any mold that had formed.

The gentlemen who came was very prompt. He looked briefly at the crawlspace and went home to write an appraisal. The company sent a long list of customers that were previously satisfied with their services. He also promised to send us a DVD with an explanation of the work that they do. He was polite and professional. His estimate was very detailed. His estimate was $2,000, and the house is over 100 years old. Should a home inspector ever require that the work be done to the extent that he felt necessary, we might use this company. He wanted to replace a side support beam, floor pads, and install jacks as well as fill gaps with morter. We found it strange that he didn't check the opposite side of the house to see if the same thing needed to be done there.

IFS was called for a quote in 2009 when we first realized we had foundation issues. They provided a quote (along with 2 other vendors), and we decided to hold off until 2010. In March of 2010, we received an updated quote, and decided to use IFS. They actually matched the cheapest quote from 2009, and even added 1 more wall anchor. There was some confusion as to the previous "quoter" who was no longer with the company. The person who came on-site was very knowledgable, and gave us answers for the discrepencies between the two quotes. The work was then scheduled, and the crew arrived on time. They worked for two days to complete a large amount of work. They sealed off the basement, and covered all of the furniture in the basement. The instructions left afterward to "tighten" the wall seem to be very informal (as it is apparently based on the weather and how wet it is, so no definite timelines were given). We have had no leaks in the wall (and we had plenty of rain after it was installed, and it leaked a lot before), and the sump pump is working properly. We are very satisfied with the service, and would definitely recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: 11 wall anchors were installed through one basement wall, as well as new drainage with sump pump in the same wall.

We did one additional thing 5 yrs after the encapsulation. We still had a slight moldy smell in the house. So we invested in a dehumidifier for the crawl space from another company. That got rid of the moldy smell completely. The dehumidifier filters need changing every 6 months. So, Indiana Foundation changes our dehumidifier filters when they come out yearly for the annual inspection. Then, the other comes out after the following 6 months & changes the filters again. I was told Sump Pumps last up to 5-6 yrs. Indiana Foundation replaced ours today at a cost of $395. This included the cost of the annual inspection. I am very pleased with this Company and would recommend them to anyone who needs a dry crawl space. In April of 2011 we has several water puddles in our encapsulated crawl space, but nothing severe or overwhelming, as reported to us by the company who installed our dehumidifier. They said the dehumidifier cannot get rid of all water. I plan on having Indiana Foundation do their annual inspection this Fall, when they change the dehumidifier filters, plus see if they see any further water puddling at that time. This Spring we did have more of a moldy smell in the house again. That smell has gone since the periods of heavy rain has decreased. I was advised by the company who installed our dehumidifier to get our crawl space sprayed with a fungicide. I thought Indiana Foundation had done that in 2004 when they installed the encapsulation. Thus I called Indiana Foundation to confirm, and found out it was never done. Now I know or suspect this was the cost difference between AmeriCrawl and Indiana Foundation for encapsulation in 2004. AmeriCrawl used Tim-bor, insecticide and fungicide, at that time. I found out from Indiana Foundation they use Mold-ex. Per my Google research, I found out Mold-ex does not get rid of or kill the mold, it does keep it from spreading. Indiana Foundation game me a name of a local company they recommend for mold clean up - Indy Clean Team. I have not investigated them. However, the company that put in our dehumidifier did give me their cost for their Tim-bor treatment, 0.40 per square foot. I have not acted on this recommendation at this time.
Description of Work: They put in a clean/dry space (encapsulation) & sump pump in our crawl space. It lessened the moldy smell in our house. No more dampness in our crawl space. It is wonderful. Five yrs after we had the clean/dry space encapsulation installed, we had a water puddle form-never could determine where it come from & not a plumbing problem. So Indiana Foundation came out & put in a Smart Drain at no charge. Super thing to do & a year later the crawl space remains dry.

only an estimate, but SO MUCH better than the other estimates I've had
Description of Work: Had some leaking in my basement. Had 4 guys out for an estimate. The previous 3 all came up with different, very expensive, plans to fix the problems and all bad-mouthed the other companies (very unprofessional in my opinion). Rick O. came out and thoroghly explained what he thought was the problem and what options I had. When I ran through the previous "plans" he VERY COUTESOUSLY explained the rationale of those systems and which ones he thought made the most sense. Ultimately, he recommended a very simple, basically free, DIY fix with the promise of coming back out to reassess and move on to the next step of intervention(a sump pump) if necessary. I hope I don't get any more water in my basement, but it I do, this guy already has my trust and respect. I'd recommend him based on his professionalism and honesty.

Pete Tinsman came to our house and did a thorough walkthrough looking at our issues. He inspected both inside and outside checking the structure of the walls. The flexi spans have a 25-year warranty. The crew worked efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. We would highly recommend them. Pete was highly superb at explaining what had caused these situations and explained what they would do to remedy them. They are coming back to run the downspouts under the lawn so they don't dump water right around the house. We compared prices and they were reasonable and much more thorough. We felt comfortable choosing them.
Description of Work: We used Indiana Foundation Service to repair existing cracks in the basement walls and minor cracks in the concrete floor. They put in flexi spans in the wall cracks, which expand so they won't crack over time if the walls move. They caulked the cracks in the floor. They also filled in around the sewer line and they repaired some concrete that was breaking away in the garage and filled in some cracks.
