My experience with Indiana Foundation Service was really good. Although they weren’t exactly prompt, everything else was great. Every time they did a specific repair, they cleaned up immediately after. They were careful around my property. For example, they dug up plants outside of my home and replanted so they wouldn’t be killed. Their estimate came in $1000 less than other companies, While there hasn’t been much rain to test their work, they offer a lifetime guarantee if any problems arise.

There was quite an ordeal with this situation with my home, but this company worked hard to get it fixed and didn't even let the horrible winter weather slow them down or hinder their work eithic. There was a long wait before they could do the work but they made sure to do a good job and it was worth the wait. They were very thorough in getting information and kept me informed on what was going and even provided me a list of references of people they had done work for in the past.
Description of Work: There was a problem with sinking on the northeast side of my home. I called them to look at it in September and they came out to look at it in the middle of October, and they measured and told me what was going on and let me know that they wouldn't be able to get to it until December.

Their previous work had a complete warranty so I called them in June and they have had three people here and I'm told the boss is supposed to call me; but right now he's on vacation. They have just not been responsible. Their prices were reasonable but they did not know what they were doing. I will not use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I am working with a company called Indiana Foundation to fix a foundation block wall that they had previously worked on. I had a block wall on the bottom of the house that was actually coming in. Four years ago they did tie backs in it and I did not think it would work with the problems I had.

In Jun 2011, we began having leaks through a crack in the same office area and also noticed some of the cactus board/floor edging material they placed on the outside of the building, attached with adhesive to the brick was beginning to come away from the building. We called IFS (Indiana Foundation Service) for someone to come ASAP to help us out and give us advice on the problem since we were getting water into the office. When I initially called they said no-one would be available until the following Wednesday to come and see it. So we took our chances and waited. Unfortunately more bad weather made more water leak into the same office area that following Monday. I called IFS again to see if someone could come sooner due to the leaks we were having and it being an emergency. They advised us that a tech would be out in the afternoon. 1:30 came so I called again around 2 since I had not heard anything. They apologized and said the tech was on another call but would be out around 3:30 instead. Same thing- no call no show… I call again and same thing apology and tech would be out at 5… I advised them that we closed at 4:30P as I had mentioned earlier to them but told them I would stay around if they could assure me someone would be out by end of day to fix the problem… I was assured I would get a call back either way by 5P to confirm. No call at 5, but none-the less I still stayed around just in case. Finally tech shows at 630P. Unfortunately he said there was nothing he could do since it was on an outside wall and due to the crack being blocked on the inside and said he would need a salesman to come out to evaluate the situation and give advice. Since it was after 630P at this point and I had already put duct tape on everything (which the tech said that was all he would be able to do) I went ahead and asked him to have a salesperson call us ASAP and come out to look at the situation. 2 days later (wed) no call from anyone. I called them again to see if anyone was coming…. Again apology and the office manager advised us the tech did not let her know this and said she would have someone come out ASAP. The following day I finally had a salesman show, and I explained the whole situation again and even advised what work they had done for us in 2009. He advised us they could repair the crack inside and have them reseal the outside edging they did (that came loose) and gave me verbal quote. I asked if they could send estimate in writing so I could forward to director for approval, which he said he would have office do. A day later still nothing, so I emailed salesman again to see if quote was sent just to be sure, he apologized and said he would make sure quote would be sent by office personnel. Day later still nothing. Finally had to have another company come and fix crack on inside office to prevent further damage, but was still waiting on quote from IFS or the outside work IFS had done initially. Finally received quote by the end of that week. I then proceeded to ask what if anything was going to be covered by them on the work that was initially done by them. I was advised by the salesman that nothing was under warrantee or guaranteed for the work that was done and that the quote they gave us was a combined quote for repairing the crack and the outside work they did and to have the edging resealed along the outside back wall of the building (which was the work they initially did) it would cost us $950, and further advised again there would be no warranty on any of the work. Needless to say we are VERY frustrated with their communication and customer service and their lack of willingness to guarantee and stand by their work.
Description of Work: In Feb, 2009 Indiana Foundation Service did some work on our building to fix some leak issues we were having along the back wall of our building, which goes to the offices on the lower level/basement of the office area due to some major leakage we had in the building at that time. After an appraisal of the situation we were advised to have 60’ hydro duct/Waterguard to correct the problem which came to the tune of $6,375. We had this work done, which was done quickly and efficiently at the time and had fixed the problem for a couple of years.

Indiana Foundation is a busy company! It did take a while to get someone out for an estimate, and then several weeks to get the job scheduled. They were available by phone to answer my questions with guidance on what I needed to do to get the basement ready for their work. They arrived on time for the job and completed almost all the work in two days. Very impressive that everything was really cleaned up after concrete work in the basement. One small part of the job is still pending - but I wasn't charged for that work. I received exactly what I was expecting. Would highly recommend this company.

He touched the wall and he said it was going back to its original form which the other engineer didn't tell us. He was great and he put his hand down there and it was full of moisture. He put his hand on the original foundation and it crumbled. He has been doing it for a long time and he said run from this house. It would cost about $20000-$30000 to jack up the wall and get the plumbing and electrical work done as well. He didn't really know till he pulled that cinder block and see what was behind there and so he couldn't tell me an exact price.

We had heard horror stories about shady foundation people, so i was a little hesitant. But I was very impressed with Mr. Cox's knowledge, experience and honesty. He clearly knew what he was doing. He could tell by looking that the floors were sloped, but then to show us how much he used a cool laser thing to measure exactlly how much which floors sloped (both homes he checked are older, so each had some sloping -- but he said it was not enough to worry about). He examined cracks in the plaster and looked at conditions in the basements of both homes — again, saying he wasn't worried about most of the things. He found only one problem (and it's a pretty big problem, actually) where floor joists had been cut to permit the installation of plumbing in a mother-in-law apartment added onto the back of the rental -- but he recommended we contact a carpenter to put in the proper braces (he estimated it might cost about $500). So in the end, we didn't give him any business (which, strange as it may sound, made me sad!), but we were very impressed -- which is why I came right home to write this review. These guys are great.

We needed some work done on our foundation. Rick with Indiana Foundation came out to look at our issues and talk with us about our concerns and any issues we may be aware of. Then he went into the crawl space to evaluate the area's of concern. Rick then explained all the problems and the possible solutions. He stated that all our problems were common for a house our age and that the work could be finished in a day. On the designated day the crew arrived on time. We spoke about all the work to be done and they started. The guys laid down plastic covering all the carpets and steps to help keep them clean. Through out the day I watched the work in progress and asked lots of question which they answered. There were three lintel repairs needed so lots of concrete had to be carried downstairs in buckets. They didn't spill any! At one time there were six men here, three doing the lintels, two drilling the pier in and one putting in the floor jacks. The crack monitor broke while they were trying to install it. The next day, Friday, I got a call to schedule the new one, which was the following Monday. When they were mixing the concrete, plastic was laid down in the yard to keep it clean. All the guys were polite and worked continuously until finish. Everything was cleaned up and all the debris taken away.

Update 6-14-11: Our sump pump system worked. IFS removed and reinstalled the sump system. The basement flooded. The IFS technician inspected the system, claimed to make adjustments and left without testing. When I tested the back-up sump, it did not function, so I identified the problem (I'm a Chemical Engineer) and took digital images to help IFS understand their mistake. This same pump works today after being correctly installed by a plumber. IFS will not rectify their incompetent installation which resulted in significant damage and expense. We will try the BBB next. Original Message: Caution: Improper Installation and Company Later Unresponsive. Indiana Foundation Service (IFS) installed a waterproofing system on April 4, 2011 which included a ?WaterGuard? system and a ?SuperSump? (replacement liner to hold the primary and back-up pumps). The existing primary and back-up sump pumps were reinstalled by IFS as part of the project since they were judged by IFS to be working effectively. At no point during the consultation or installation did IFS personnel recommend replacement of the existing primary or back-up sump pump systems. IFS did note on the top of the proposal ?*no warranty on existing sumps & discharge line?. However, there is no warranty exclusion for IFS?s improper installation of an otherwise working sump pump. On the morning of April 20, 2011 we noticed wet carpeting in our basement. Upon inspection, there was standing water in the laundry room where the sump pump is located. I noticed the alarm on the back-up system had not been activated, so I pressed the ?test? button on the back-up sump pump system. The back-up pump immediately turned on and drained the standing water. Later that morning, Kenny (a technician with IFS) inspected the system and concluded that the primary sump pump was not working as quickly as it should to drain the SuperSump. I asked why the back-up sump did not engage until I pushed the test button, at which point it activated and drained. Kenny told me he adjusted the height of the backup sump and subsequently closed and sealed the lid of the SuperSump. Kenny then left our home explaining that we would be contacted by someone from their office within a half hour about the damage to our basement. That afternoon, I decided to test the back-up pump to be certain it functioned correctly. I unplugged the primary pump and ran the water. The back-up pump did not activate and water began coming out of the SuperSump. After hitting test on the back-up, it again drained the water immediately. Next, I removed the lid to the SuperSump to see what was happening within the well area. When the back-up pump float rose with the water level, it became lodged in the WaterGuard system?s PVC drainage pipe (see photo) installed on April 4th by IFS, thereby preventing activation. Importantly, IFS did not explain that there would be a PVC pipe extending into the well pit, creating an obstruction to the float. IFS was provided with the digital photograph as an aid to demonstrate to IFS its improper installation of the back-up sump pump in combination with the WaterGuard system. After explaining what I witnessed, Keith (the IFS salesman) indicated that based on his conversation with the technician, we did not need a new back-up pump and that he was trying to get Kenny out to the house the same day. After hearing nothing more that day from IFS, the next morning, we hired Isley Plumbing to replace the primary sump pump and correctly reinstall the existing back-up pump. IFS has stated it is not responsible for the failure of existing sump pumps and are; therefore, not accountable for the damages. Our position has been that we are not requesting compensation for the failure of the primary sump pump. We also have a back-up pump installed that was, and remains, in working condition. It appears that the water damage was caused by the placement of the back-up pump in proximity to the newly installed PVC pipe that prevented the float from rising to activate the back-up pump. No one has been able to provide an alternative explanation for the failure of the back-up system to activate on April 20th. We worked with a water extraction company to dry out the basement, requiring numerous pieces of equipment over four days, disposal of the carpeting and removal of some baseboards. We are not asking IFS to cover the installation costs of the new primary sump pump since, after the second unsuccessful attempt by its technician to properly set the back-up pump, we elected to hire a plumbing company to install the new primary pump and adjust the back-up system. We are requesting that IFS cover the cost of remediation, carpet and paint. We believe these costs are a direct result of IFS?s installation work and reflect less than the total expense and inconvenience encountered. We are also disappointed in how unresponsive IFS personnel have been in terms of responding to our inquiries. This ongoing unresponsiveness resulted in a call on April 26th to the company owner, Danny Morrow. He did accept our phone call, and called back that afternoon after his discussion with the salesperson. However, he was supposed to call again after talking to the technician and we have never heard back from him.
Description of Work: Installed 22 linear feet of WaterGuard and a SuperSump (sealed replacement liner to hold the sump pump and back-up pump). In addition, they reinstalled the existing primary and back-up pump systems.

Response from Indiana Foundation Service
We would like to thank [This Member] for their response to the installation of our WaterGuard system. We are a responsible company and do our best to keep that reputation. We would like to address the issues that have come up regarding the installation at [This Member's] residence. According to our sales representative, Keith and the service technician, Kenny there are some pieces of information that are missing from [This Member's] statement. Our records indicate that Kenny went out to [This Member's] residence for a service call on April 20th regarding the primary pump. Kenny has stated he reported to [This Member] that there was a problem with the existing primary pump. He referred him back to Keith to discuss a new pump replacement. Keith stated that he request that Kenny go out the next day and offer a pump replacement for $250 (which the regular price is $395). Kenny contacted [This Member] in route to his house and stated that he was in the area and had a pump on his truck that he could install at that time. [This Member] told Kenny that he and his wife had thought about it and they were going to have a plumber install the new pump correctly and check over our work. Kenny asked a second time to confirm that they refused the replacement. Again, [This Member] stated he was sure about having the plumber install the replacement. [This Member] mentions in the complaint that he removed the lid and the float rose and became lodged as in the photo. However, in the photo the water level in the pit is not at a level which would indicate the situation as he is describing. In Keith’s professional opinion, the water coming in from the PVC would push the float away and rise along with the rising water in the pit, engaging the back-up pump. If [This Member] had accepted the pump installation offer, the entire system would have been under warranty. However, as stated on the proposal we do not warranty existing pumps. With the record amount of rain in the month of April the secondary pump could have not been able to keep up with the amount of water coming in and therefore, could be the cause of the basement flooding.

I have called a couple times to explain the problem to them. Originally he said he would meet with me, but have yet to see him. Its been a week and a half and still no response.
Description of Work: My wife had them do some repair of a crawlspace where mold was found. They were supposed to replace bad sill plates, but they didn't do all of it that was rotten. We are trying to sell this house and when the inspectors came they noticed their work was not sufficient. The inspectors found additional rotted wood that did not get replaced. It has been okay so far. We have had a weather related delay. We need to disconnect the furnace for a while so it's going to take some warmer weather before we can get back to it. The shims that they put in have collapsed. They said they are going to have to come back and put in some different shims. The customer service is very good. They have responded to all my calls. They have been very nice about making visits out here to check things. They are really trying to figure out how to best solve the problems we're having. They have been really friendly, responsive, and cooperative.

The estimate process was very efficient. This company carries workers compensation coverage so it was our first choice to hire. The work team arrived on time daily and worked efficently. However, on the last day an issue arose over the price of the work they did vs. the contracted work order. We had agreed to 22 piers but one of them could not be installed because of underground wires and pipes. The shimming was not done. The company quickly worked to communicate with us and address our concerns. The work we contracted was done immediately. The final bill was reworked to our satisfaction, including the Angies List discount.
Description of Work: Company installed 21 piers to stablize our foundation. The foundation was raised 1/2 inch. They also shimmed cross beams to ameliorate uneven floors.

Given the very poor weather, they did a fantastic job. It was 15 degrees the day they began, they couldn't make it the second day as we had three (3) more inches of snow overnight but they called to say they weren't coming. The remaining three (3) days of the project were all below freezing, but they continued to work and completed the project in the four (4) working days they promised. The cracks in the brick from the settling were closed approximately 80%, and the work appeared to be performed as was described. The men were very courteous, hard working, and professional. I was disapointed that they did not do a better job of cleaning the mud from our driveway, but given the poor weather and how exhausted I could tell they were the final day, I understand. I am sure if the weather had been better, they would have done a much better job. The price was somewhat high, but I understand a portion of what we are payng was liability and I believe most of the time you get what you pay for. Overall if the settling has been permanetly stopped as they promised, we are very satisfied. I would recomend them.
Description of Work: We had a section of our home that had settiled over this past very dry summer. They installed eleven (11) foundation supports and raised the foudation to as close as possible to the original elevation.
