The installers, Mac and Steve, were also professional, dillegent and hard working. They worked efficiently even though it was a rather cold two days. Cleanup was complete and thorough. Their work was excellent and I would highly recommend them again.
Description of Work: 15 wood windows in our 11 year old house were beginning to show severe deterrioration, peeling and rotting. I contacted 3 window repair companies, but decided on Window Makeover for their professionalism and attention to detail on the initial inspection. I had one company tell me that they, "would come back and really look at the windows if I committed to the repair work now." Dave from Windows Makeover was prompt with the appointment time and very thorough in his inspection. When the house was originally built in 2000, we were required to install wood windows. Over the years, these windows deterriorated despite routine painting. Instead of replacing the windows, I had 15 windows repaired. The repair work was primarily done to the trim, brick moulding and window sills. 15 windows was a rather extensive repair job and it was completed in 2 days. The old wood trim was replaced by their special polymer wood product. They also have a metal sheilded sill process that I believe is patented by them as well.

From initial estimate to installation was about two months. They kept me informed all the way and set the expectation bar well. I was very pleased. I even called them a couple weeks before the install to tell them that we had identified another rotten window we had missed, and they accommodated fixing that one at the same time as the others.
Description of Work: The replaced our rotting window sashes and sills. They were extremely professional and did great work. It was so much cheaper than buying new windows, and they look great.

The sales person was prompt and through in his assesment and estimate. Explaned the problems and the proposed repairs in detail. Provided options of new versus repair. When the workman arrived ontime they were curteous, neat and also explained the repairs they were performing. When the painters came to paint the repaired windows they even commented on the quality of the work performed.
Description of Work: The company repaired 18 twenty year old wood frame windows.

I think Window Makeover could have presented me with the option of new windows to be considered before they came-out to do the work. I realize that the schedules between Dave and Dave Howard were to be coordinated and that made things more complex. I know that they primarily repair damaged windows and that is a focus. I don't think dismissing a customer who has been a good customer in the past is good business practice. I just wanted an explanation of why no further discounting was to be considered and we may have still been accepting of the repairs and the bill as well. They shut the door. It's unfortunate that they made such an abrupt decision. If Window Makeover is not sure how to address a customer's concern and recommend working with a particular contractor that they trust, things may get real complex if that contractor doesn't fully support Window Makeover's position for the work proposed (in this case due to cost). I got a good taste of how contractor "politics" goes. The guy who "doesn't do windows" really replaces windows but is afraid of losing business because of the relationship he has with a window repair company who recommended him. What about just getting the customer the best long-term solution, what happened to that concept-? I also didn't take kindly to the sign placed in my front yard that I gave no consent for and was not picked-up after they ended our business relationship. It has since been recycled.
Description of Work: Dave came-out to look @ the back of my house and recommended a person (Dave Howard) to address the leak issues we had in that area. He didn't think that the windows (that his company had repaired previously) were the issue. He did recommend that we have some frame and sash work done with them to keep the existing windows and get them to function better. We were initially open to it, but when we got the estimate it didn't seem that they had discounted enough work toward the previous work that they had done on some of the same windows. I was not home @ the time and my wife didn't feel comfortable signing the proposal. She had not been involved in the work previously. Dave proceeded with completing part of the job and hoping we could work-out the rest of the details ($). They had fit us into a busy schedule and couldn't lose the work day. I had asked him previously about just replacing the windows and he still seemed to think repairing what we had would be more cost-effective when compared. I hadn't seen a proposal @ that time. We initially didn't get a new replacement window quote. Once Dave Howard got done addressing the apparent source of the leak and we were ready to proceed with the rest of the window repairs, he wondered why we would not consider replacement windows because it MAY be a better long-term solution. We decided to look into it and certainly the cost of replacing the windows that they had not discounted (one fully and a few minimally of about 17 windows to be addressed) was comparable. When I discussed that with Dave by e-mail he immediately decided that Window Makeover would not charge me anything for the work that was completed (more than fair) AND that his company would not do any other work for me (SHOCKING). I would highly recommend anyone who has to face window wood rot or damage to consider both options before proceeding with any work to be done. No matter the schedule concerns.

Response from Window Makeover - Indianapolis
Customer service is a matter of perspective. Window Makeover has always put the best interest of their customer first. This is a core principle of our business. We are in the business of saving homeowners thousands of dollars on new windows by providing them with replacement components that solve their window issues for far less than new windows. Member has had an on-going leak issue on the rear of his home for a number of years. We are in the window business, not the leak business. It WAS in the best interest of our customer to recommend a specialist in the field of water infiltration. Upon determining that the leaks were not casued by the windows, were were still critisized for not finding the leak in the first place even though that was not in our scope of work, nor what we were hired to do. The direct dis-agreement between Window Makeover and Member was price. Member speaks of discounts repeatedly. We did work for Member in the past. That is correct. We DID perform nearly $1,200 worth of work free of charge in consideration for his prior business and "in the best interest" of our customer. Yet, Member was quite amused by our new quote, to not only address on-going issues, but also new work not previously quoted. Member expected to pay in 2011 what he paid in 2007. With all due respect, inflation, fuel prices, cost of goods, insurance, taxes.....we can go on and on why this expectation is unreasonable. Not to mention our innovations in products and delivery of those products since 2007 are milestones away from what Member originally paid for. We don't recommend new windows because new windows are our competitor. In this case, we felt Member would be better served by a new window product that would require less maintenance and give him the confidence that the price he felt was reasonable to pay was more in line with the value he saw in the product. Our closing statement is a general response to situations like this that we see quite often. Folks, we didn't build your house. We didn't make your windows. We haven't taken care of your house for 10-20 years. It's not our fault your having these problems. And they're big problems. We understand that. We work on big expensive houses every day. The sad reality of modern building practices is; the more expensive the house, the more expensive the problems! We are trying to help you! That is the only reason we are here! We are the guys trying to save you money. Save you time. Save you hassle. Window Makeover is here as a solution. We want your window problems to go away. Windows are all we do and our confidence is in our experience. We have been putting our customers first for 11 years and will continue to stand behind our products and our reputation for years to come.

I called Window Makeover and Dave came out the same day 4/13/11 to give me the estimate. The price was reasonable and I paid a 50% deposit for them to schedule my installation date. They told me upfront that they were three weeks out for the installation, which was not a problem. Several days later they emailed me an installation date of May 4, 2011. They arrived on time on their schedule date and restored the window sashes. They did great work and I was very impressed in them restoring my windows.
Description of Work: I had 6 aluminum clad windows that the wood sashes were rotted out on the bottom. Window makeover replaced all the wood around the glass and restored it to its original condition.

The gentleman that came out to quote the job was very professional. He showed me what parts needed to be replaced and what parts just needed to be scraped and repainted. He did not try and sell me more than I needed. They repaired several of my casement windows for the price of just 1 replacement window. The craftsmen were on time and very polite. They did an excellent job. I would highly recommend them to anyone that has windows that look like they need to be replaced.

While Mr. Window appreciates all customer feedback, and especially those that result in not only all A's but a Page of Happiness nomination, this report is on our page in error. We did not do any work for the customer whioh is why we requested that Angie's List remove this posting from our page, on March 7th, and redirect it to the proper company.

Good. We had completely replaced 5 large windows in our house previously. This was a smaller window that wasn't as completely far "gone" as the previous ones. We decided to try a restoration as opposed to a complete replacement. I estimated that it cost about 1/3 as much as a complete replacement. We decided to go with the composite material as opposed to all wood due to the longer warranty (5 yrs as opposed to 1 yr). The employee from WM that did the work was on time, very cordial, and worked very efficiently. The cost was exactly equal to the estimate as was the time it took to do the work. He cleaned everything up both inside and outside. The window looks like new. My only concern is that only time will tell if this was the right decision to restore rather than replace but given the cost differential, we could do a restoration several times over for what a new window cost.

We are not pleased about paying a substantial sum of money for work that was not completed as agreed to in writing. This proves that a good concept on its own does not ensure success-- you had better deliver. That was not the case here.
Description of Work: We selected this company in lieu of full window replacement as we believed the windows themselves were still in good shape, but the frames and sills were ready for replacement. We had an estimator out and we agreed to all terms and conditions, and the project started out well enough. However, on the second day we noticed that five windows only had partial work done on them relative to what was specified on the estimate. We naively paid the invoice in full, hoping to have the rest of the unfinished windows completed, or at least a substantial refund-- Big Mistake. The estimator was nice enough to come out and take a look, and he agreed that either the work needed to be completed or something could be done to provide a refund of a portion of the price. Despite speaking with the estimator three times since, I have yet to hear from the owner or field manager who the estimator said were the only ones qualified to address the situation. It is a shame these folks cannot be more trustworthy and responsive, because this option, while still a pretty penny, is certainly a lot cheaper than full window replacement. We did not have the luxury of watching these guys like a hawk because we were working ourselves, but anyone who is considering this company should plan on doing so.

Window Makeover regrets the feelings of the homeowner in regard to this job. In our defense our policy has been to collect a 50 percent deposit on a job this size to secure the time and efforts of our staff in addition to material needed to complete the work. We regretfully have dropped the ball in communicating with the homeowner in this instance and will accordingly be in contact to rectify their concerns. An adjustment was made to the balance owed when the work was completed. As is part of our process by design we address only problematic portions of rotten windows in order to save the homeowner money versus totally replacing their window(s).

Very pleased having this work completed. I had been looking at these problem windows for too many yeasr. I kept thinking I would plug up the window and take them one-by-one to the hardware and have them replaced. I'm guessing the window and seal replacement took about 3 1/2 hours. Glad I got it done and can see clearly now.
Description of Work: We had several windows that had fogged up between panes. Jim, from Window Makerover, came to our house, measured the windows, and checked out the seal material needed that slides into a track at the bottom of the window. He order the appropriate materials and set an installation date for about two weeks later. The work was done on my driveway on the described date and I was very satisfied with the completed work. VERY punctual.

We apologize for the lack of communication. Due to some changes in field personnel and the communication structure several leads were lost over the course of the past month. We have taken it upon ourselves as a company to try and recover as many leads as possible but negligence has made it difficult. Be assured this is not how we want to conduct business and would love the chance to earn the business from anyone who attempted to contact us during this time period. Again, our most sincere apologies.

Company is very responsive. However, the quote I received was incredibly expensive for the work I wanted done. This is a "paint by the numbers" outfit - one size fits all type quote for repair. They have a price list from which they don't deviate. Unless you really need a full reworking of a window due to rot, don't bother with these guys because they will charge you for a full window makeover regardless of your actual needs. The sales guy also told me what it would cost to fully replace the window or the sash if done by the manufacturer, and when I called the manufacturer's rep to verify, the amounts represented to me by Windows Makeover was twice the actual cost. I could actually get a brand new sash from the manufacturer for less cost than Windows Makeover was going to charge me to fix the one I have!!

Response from Window Makeover - Indianapolis
In regard to our pricing, we have a very effective and efficient quoting system, which our sales team uses to give homeowners free estimates. Due to the fact that there are thousands of window manufacturers in existence, it would not be feasible to price every window differently. In the ten years we have been in business we’ve compiled a detailed pricing database of different manufacturers and we use that to give our homeowners a very competitive price. This particular homeowner apparently received a quote straight from a manufacturer for material only, not including labor, which explains the price difference. Like any “for profit” company, we do charge for labor, keeping in mind our very competitive pricing. The hundreds of homeowners that have saved thousands of dollars by using our services are portrayed in our consecutive Angie’s List super service awards and our “A” rating. We appreciate this homeowner’s feedback but we respectfully disagree with the negative comments.

The workers were very professional and courteous. They had brought in some materials that were not working right. So they took them back and replaced them with the woodwork that is around the window panes; sort of made sure it fit. They had brought in a painter to do the painting required on the exterior to match the rest of the house. For the most part, they did a fine job. We had some issues after they finished completely. About 2 weeks later, I had to call them back because I could not get 2 windows to shut completely. They came back right away; within a day. They replaced some hinges and some other levers that cause it to lock better. It was half the price for replacing the windows. So it is hard to say but it still sounds like a lot of money. However, when we compared it with the cost of replacing them it was a lot better. They actually did a lot more work than I though they would for the money.

I got the estimate back on August 12th. It took until the 28th of September to get my window in. The crew that came to install the window noticed that the window next to it also had a wood rot issue, which was missed by the first salesman. When they actually installed the window, the gauged several areas of my home. They window was also supposed to be painted(which I supplied). By the middle of October, I still had not heard anything about completing the job. On my second time trying to contact them, I finally was able to talk to a real person. I was told they were just backed up. The crew that finally came out (on October 22th) did not paint the entire window. After that crew was out, I haven't heard anything back from them to complete the painting. The work is still incomplete and I'm left with a partially raw wood window.

In regard to The Member's job we regret the length of time between inspection and the completion date of the sash install. The sash in question was ordered from a manufacturer that we had not used before and there was some delay for them to customize it. We are very honest with our customers about the lead-time for our installers in the field. Because we are so specialized, there is a high demand for our services and since we are also a weather dependent business sometimes there are delays beyond our control. The painting that was done on the exterior of the window was a bonus that we included based on the homeowner’s concern with having her painter available in a timely fashion. We did not charge for this service. As is our standard practice we paint the part or parts that we replace on the exterior of the window and we are not house painters. The onus of interior painting falls on the homeowner per our contract. The homeowner listed our rating on price as an “A”. We apologize for the delay in our work but apparently the money we saved overall is a consideration.

We paid $600 per window which was pretty expensive but we were happy with them. We got a second estimate from another company, and it was about the same or more. It was specialty work, and so we wanted to go with somebody that does a lot of windows as opposed to more general carpentry work. We didn?t want to end up with leaky windows. We thought that it?d be a better bet to go with them. The person who came out did a lot of work, and got the job done quickly. We would use him in the future.

Dean came out and surveyed the project. I accepted his quote and Craig arrived a couple of weeks later to do the job. Everything happend on-time without unexpected costs or complications. The work was done in just a few hours. Since I had a bucket of exterior paint already, they even painted the window. It looks great. The true test will be this spring, when I can confirm that the original water leak is gone.
