Overall, we are satisfied with the work of White's Electric. We had one issue that required a second visit to re-do the wiring for an outlet that was incorrect. Given this was potentially dangerous to our well-being (we plugged a lamp into the outlet and it blew the lightbulb), we rate them a B.
Description of Work: White's Electric replaced our electrical box and expanded the number of available circuits. They also rewired the washing machine to its own dedicated circuit. They installed a couple of new outlets in the bathroom and basement. They also ensured the house was properly grounded.

They were excellent. We had no problems. He's a good worker, he knew what he was doing and he was very meticulous. I would even ask for the same guy back. We are going to use them again.
Description of Work: We bought a Big Deal for 2 hours of licensed, professional electrical labor. They put in an extra outlet. I had a couple other things. He fixed my daughter's ceiling fan in her room.

The electrical panel was replaced carefully and worked very well after completion. Initially the bathroom exhaust fans were replaced with noisy fans. As I had requested quieter, more efficient fans, they purchased the ones I wanted and replaced them again, adjusting the opening in the drywall to fit the new fans. These are working well. Because they were working in a very tight space, a mirrored door in the bathroom was accidentally broken. They immediately responded to this by measuring and ordering a new door. They worked with Lowes to get the right size doors ordered, stuck with it in spite of Lowes making errors along the way, and sent out an experienced contractor to remove the damaged doors and replace them with the new ones. This was done at their expense, and I am pleased with the end result. They remained friendly, polite and professional throughout the process. I thank the professionals at White's Electrical for their work on our home.

They were prompt and professional during the estimate phase and during installation. They had to re-wire a light outside that was not part of the estimate yet they were willing and hardworking to do extra tasks. They reviewed "how to" with each and every light and outlet as well as consulted with me on my preference for the positions of the outdoor lights. Excellent experience from start to finish.

GREAT, wish I was able to purchase more time at that price to have two more fans installed.
Description of Work: I purchased the Angie's List special for 2 hours of labor for $99.00 and soon after an employee of White's called to fix a time to have the work performed. At the time I had not purchased the fans I wanted to have installed, but I felt this was a great gesture on their behalf. When I did call, I was scheduled within 2 business days. After a misunderstanding on my part about the arrival time, the two gentlemen arrived within 30 minutes of the promised time. They were very efficient and remembered to ask which blades I wanted, if the fans needed flush mounting and cleaned up after themselves. This is a critical part, because I feel I shouldn't have to worry about leftover screws, packing material, or other items left behind. I really appreciate that effort. The light kit I purchased for one of the fans was broken and missing parts and they gave me an estimate to return to install that. They were also tolerant of my dog who wanted to get in the middle of things. I definitely got my money's worth because ceiling fan installation isn't something my husband or I can do and it only took them one hour.

We had an issue with a 30 amp breaker in a quad pole unit (four 30 amp breakers in one large unit) installed way back in 1985. There was a breaker issue causing some HVAC problems in the house, and the electrical buzz in the breaker was enough to cause a concern since the power to the condenser fan outside was either not working or was not at full power so I was concerned about having an issue with the condenser fan. Long story short I searched Angie's List for a local electrician who could make weekend house call. From the point of call to the arrival time was about two hours on a Sunday. Not too bad. They warned me it would be a $199 charge for after-hours emergency work to diagnose the problem. Since it is hot outside, and with kids in the house, I needed the electrical going back to the HVAC unit resolved so the HVAC people could come out on Monday to see what else was going on. The gentleman arrived on time, and after speaking with him and Tom via conference call, we decided to replace two breakers to replace the function of the 1985 quad pole 30 amp breaker was providing. The total charge was $384.00 which was $199 for the weekend emergency charge and $135 for the first hour of weekend labor. The rest was $25 a piece for each 30 amp bi-pole breaker. Bill, the electrician, explained what he would do in our situation, and with my minor electrical experience, it made sense. The overall pricing was a bit high, but I would use them for regular hours work and would consider it for emergency work. If we could have gone to a hotel for the night due to the electrical issues and cooling problem, I probably would have saved money vs. the $199 weekend emergency "show up" charge...but that wasn't an option for us.

Called White Electrial because of their Angie's List $99 Special and their high rating on Angie's List.Came out and diagnosed the problem quickly. Stated the issue was one of 2 things.Stated that the IPL meter outside the house seemed to be loose and also that the wiring going into my breaker might be too small.Stated that at some point a 60 amp box may have been change to the current 100 amp box. (I believe I am using the correct terms.) They said they would call IPL for me (which they did), and have them take care of the meter. Advised me to try that first, and if that fixed the problem, as that would be the cheapest fix, and nothing further would need to be done. Stated if the issue continued, they would come out and replace the breaker box and the wire in question. Est. cost $425 for work, if needed. Hopefully IPLs work will fix the problem, but if it doesn't I will be giving Travis a call at White to fix the problem.
Description of Work: Lights flickering in entire house and off and on humming coming from breaker box area---determining cause.Intermittent problem, occurring a couple of times a week for a few weeks.

I had a couple more items on my electrical to-do list but ran out of time. If only one guy showed up I feel like more work could have been accomplished in the allotted time.
Description of Work: Bought the $99 for 4 hours of electrical service. Since 2 guys showed up it was only good for 2 hours. They replaced a couple of outside electrical boxes with GFI boxes and two wall light switches, with equipment I supplied. Initially we had a hard time getting a call back from the provider, but once contacted by them we got the date scheduled. They installed the fixtures. They were told to move one light fixture location so that it was not installed over a return air vent but they did not do that. Not sure why. I don't beleive it affects the function of either item and everything seems to be working fine. They did not install 2 other fixtures stating that they were too big for the area which was right.

RepWe bought an Angie's List big deal for 2 hours of electrical work for $99, and received the full 2 hours (2 electricians for 1 hour each). We needed 3 ceiling lights replaced, one that had originally been installed without an electrical box. Dave and Nate called to let us know they were on their way, they got right to work, and replaced all 3 ceiling lights (1 flush and 2 hanging) in the one hour time allowed by the deal. The guys were very professional, polite, and very neat, even asking if we'd like them to dispose of our old fixtures. We would definitely use them again.

June 12, 2012 Tom from White's Electric came to give an estimate to replace 12 exterior lights on our home, replace 6 sidewalk lights, replace 3 stairway lights, check 3 smoke alarms, and replace a lamp post light fixture. His estimate was $1700, which did not include hours or hourly rates. This estimate was about twice what I expected, so I thought about it a bit. My husband, who met with Tom, felt Tom was a good, reliable person. So, I reluctantly agreed to have them do the work, which we wanted done before the following weekend. June 15, 2012 two men from White's Electric came to do the electrical work. I provided all the materials. One man removed/replaced 8 exterior light fixtures. The other man removed the six 120v. sidewalk lights, and said the new lights were low intensity. I went to Lowe's to get a transformer for the low intensity lights while the man worked on the existing wiring to install the lights. He informed me the lamp post light could not be hooked up because it is not low intensity lighting. So, the lamp post light fixture was not replaced. The two men then worked on the stairway lights. One light fixture was replaced. They replaced lightbulbs and adjusted wires on some of the others. All stairway lights worked when done. One man informed me the smoke alarms should be replaced. I needed to purchase them The two men arrived around 8:30 AM. They left around 12:30 PM. One man called Tom to ask what to charge, as the rest of the work could not be completed that day. The two men charged me $1,000.00. After obtaining the four additional light fixtures and 3 smoke alarms, I waited to call White's back to finish the work, as I was bothered by the cost. July 19, 2012 I called White's to ask what their hourly rate is. The receptionist told me $125 for the first hour and $100 for each additional hour. Doing the calculations, I figured the cost should have been $425. They did not provide any materials. July 20, 2012 I called White's. I spoke with Tom. He said the hourly rates are $125 for the first hour PER MAN, and $100 each hour after that PER MAN. He then stated there was travel time involved. I was quite surprised. The travel time from Mooresville to Monrovia is 15 minutes, maximum. I have never had a contractor charge for travel from Mooresville. According to Tom, the charge should have been $950. He then found the invoice, which I signed. Tom stated that the two men wrote they were at my home 7 hours. My copy of the invoice does not have hours written anywhere on it. It just has the balance of $1000. The men were not at my home more than 4 hours. They were making plans to go fishing after one man completed his next job.Tom was very defensive, and stood his ground. White's Electric obviously does not count on repeat business. They were not honest, and refused to give me the deserved refund.
Description of Work: Obtained estimate to replace 12 exterior lights, 6 sidewalk lights, lamp post light, 3 stairway lights, and check 3 smoke alarms. Total estimate was $1700.00.Actual work completed: 8 exterior lights were replaced (4 were on backorder), 6 low intensity sidewalk lights installed (where 120 v lights were) along with a transformer, one stairway light was replaced (others had lightbulbs replaced, wires reattached). The lamp post light could not be used, as it was connected to the sidewalk lights. It can't be used with low intensity lighting, apparently. The smoke alarms need replaced (I would have to buy them.).

Response from White's Electrical LLC
Tom came out to meet the member on Wednesday. The member explained that he need the job done the same week. Tom called the office and asked if we could move other customers so we could squeeze this job in. The office made some phone calls and were able to move some jobs and get a crew to the customers house on Friday. The customer agreed for White’s electrical to come out and do the job for 1700.00 dollars. The customer did not ask White’s Electrical to come out and do the work so she could pay us hourly. She asked for, received and agreed to a price to complete a job. On Friday White’s electrical dispatched the only crew available out of north east Indianapolis. They showed up and completed a job in a timely manner. Then told the customer that it was going to cost her extra money because she did not have all the lights even though that would have cost White’s Electrical additional time and gas to complete the job. White’s Electrical has a customer signed invoice for 1,000.00 that shows 7 man hours for two employees. It is possible that the customers copy does not show the 7 hours. This could happen because the customer asked for a quote and the guys were not required by White’s electrical to bill out hourly on the job. At this time White’s Electrical has 7 man hours paid out to two employees and 3 hours paid out to Tom for the Estimate. We will not include the extra time spent by the office shuffling the schedule, dealing with a customer who decided she not agree with the price after she accepted the job or drafting a response. White’s Electrical’s break even cost on the job is 750.00. White’s Electrical will not pay the member to install her lights as she has requested. We will however refuind her 250.00 if she removed her negative post.

Bought the Angie's Big Deal for $99.00. I knew ahead of time that it would be either 1 technician for two hours or 2 technicians for an hour. One technician showed up within the time frame that was scheduled. As mentioned above I had some issues with a couple of outlets and switches which he took care of. Had three ceiling lights installed (including removing the old ones). Still had time left over so he installed an outside outlet that had went bad sometime ago. Very pleased with the service. He was very professional and didn't waste time between projects.

When an electrician can gauge the center of a room by sight without a tape, can detect a stud without a finder, and can squeeze his shoulders into a space smaller than a four year old's, you know he's a professional. These guys are professionals. Don and Nate brainstormed and found the perfect solution for our problem, took care of business, cleaned up afterwards and were done in an hour and a half (charging an extra $50 on top of the $99 Big Deal price). NOTE: "2 hours of labor for $99" likely means 1 hour of labor using two guys, for $99. It's likely they'll send two guys at a time, so schedule your jobs accordingly.

Overall it was a very good experience. They were very prompt in scheduling my appointment and found a time that worked great for me. The coupon was $99 for each home for 2 hours of service. My home included installation of 3 ceiling fans and my mother in law's home including installing 2 light fixtures in bathrooms. The workers showed up to my house first and had 2 employees there. They told me with 2 employees it would be an hour of work. This was fine with me. They were very fast and very efficient. They showed up to my home at 8:55 a.m. and were packing up by 10:00 a.m. My only complaint with the service was when they were finished packing up and loading their truck, one worker came back in for me to sign off that the job was complete. When he handed me the invoice it had an extra $50 charge on it. I asked why this was on here and he said it was for an extra half hour of work and their normal rate is $100 per hour so half would be $50. I was not real pleased with this as I look at my watch and it's now not even 10:10 a.m. So I said to him that he maybe worked an extra 10 minutes over the hour and I'd be happy to pay the extra they worked over the hour, but I'm not paying for 30 minutes of work when it was less than 10. He explained they had to load up their truck and that he was technically still there. It was irritating to be expected to pay for time he was arguing with me. After another few minutes of back and forth he scratched it off the invoice and said "fine, you're a good customer so we'll just give that time to you for free". I told him again I had no issue paying for time they worked over, but I wasn't going to be gouged for an extra 20 - 25 minutes of time they didn't work and I was only willing to pay for ACTUAL time worked. He ended up leaving without charging me extra, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. After they left, they immediately went to my mother in laws and had her fixtures installed in under 25 minutes - so that one went off without a hitch. I would still use White's electrical again as I think they do a very good job and are very reasonably priced, but I will make sure I state in advance that I will pay for actual work time only instead of having a disagreement when the job is complete.

I bought the Big Deal for 2 hours of professional electrical installation services. I wanted to put in can lights in the bulkhead of our master bathroom. Once they got into the attic to see where they could drop wires, I decided it was much more involved than the 2 hours I bought so I just had them add sconces. They even did some minor electrical repair while waiting for me to return from the store with new light fixtures.

The men called the morning of the work to let me know when they would arive. The came and started working on the varrious projects, it took a little longer than anticipated due to high ceiling in our living room. They had to use a 12 foot ladder, which luckly they had with them. They also had to make some modifications to the rod that the fan hangs from. All in all a very good experience with the Company.
Description of Work: Install one new ceiling fan, take down and reinstall in a different room an existing fan. Remove an existing light fixture.
