Beck's Auto Center

I've had work done here before, but my review is based on a recent visit. I have a newish car (3 years, 50,000 miles). Took it to the dealer for a standard oil change. They said I needed new brakes and asked for $600 off the bat -- which I balked at. Took it in to Beck's. They said my brake pads were at 40%, and could probably go for another 20,000 miles! So they saved me heaps of money with a free, very quick glance at the pads.

I have used this service before for my muffler and exhaust system repairs and have been happy. The flex pipe replacement went fine, and I am happy with that part. However, I let this provider replace my rear struts, and the struts do not appear to be the correct struts for my car. Now the car slopes down towards the front, and my headlights point toward the ground. I complained that this should not be the case, and I was told that to correct the situation, I would need to replace my front struts. Never had this problem before, and I have been having my cars repaired for over 40 years with a number of strut replacements over that time. After the replacement, I experienced a loud banging noise when I drove over a small bump. I returned to Becks, and they replaced bushings. When I complained about the headlights pointing towards the ground, I returned the car to the shop, and they said they would adjust the headlights. These were original equipment headlights and had never before been adjusted. They still could not get the headlights adjusted to the proper position, and the mechanic broke one of the adjusters. I subsequently replaced the headlight assemblies myself, and have adjusted the headlights to point to the proper location. Conclusion: I have good experiences with exhaust system repairs by Beck--Not so good experience with mechanical repairs.

Since the Infiniti dealer is in Indianapolis, I wanted to perform a factory-scheduled maintenance check in town, and gave Beck's a try (not having been very pleased with Mike Raisor imports). The job was done in less than an hour and the serviceman even went to get me at a nearby Subway's to let me know. He pointed out what needs to be replaced in the next 6-12 months, without soliciting further services. However, when asked if they could perform replacement tasks, they followed up within hours (by e-mail) with a complete quote. The only (minor) drawback is that their waiting room is rather noisy, although it equipped with the minimum (small desks, free wi-fi, and a Keurig coffeemaker). But I really like their responsiveness, and will probably go back to them for further work.

The car experienced a mysterious "won't start" problem, even after a new battery was installed. I suspected it related to a drenched interior of the vehicle that occurred after heavy rains on to the sunroof with a failed seal. Regardless of the cause, I had the car towed to Beck's for repair. They replaced a major fuse buried somewhere under the hood. Repair was quick, inexpensive and it worked. The car run's fine. Now, if they would just fix the leaking sunroof so I could retire the tarp!

Beck's assisted my college son at Purdue, West Lafayette, when his car wouldn't start. I spoke in person with the provider and made it clear that I wanted my son to handle the issue with them so that he could learn more about how this type of situation works--we did not want to act as parents "saving the day" for our son. They were respectful of that and dealt only with him from then on. My son, Kyle, told them to only fix the problem, not more. They respected that request. While they provided a list of items that needed attention, they only fixed the main issue due to my son's financial limitations. He was impressed that they responded very quickly to his needs and fixed the vehicle while he waited. We were so thankful as parents since we are 2 hours away and concerned for our son--they really listened to our son and got his vehicle running safely. Our son was able to afford the service and has had no issues since. Thank you! It's nice to know that they did not "take advantage of him" but honestly fixed the issue within a college student's budget. It's so hard being 2 hours away when your child needs help--so grateful they stepped in, and also that my son learned a lesson in automobile maintenance. Thanks, Beck's!

They are very good. They do a good job at a reasonable price, not the cheapest but reasonable and they get you in and out of there in a day. So you are only without your vehicle for a day and then they will tell you, you are going to need this work done a month or two from now. They do a maintenance check and they will tell you what should be done the next few months plus they give you coupons off their website. They are very professional.

I emailed the owner from the Contact Us on the website and explained the problem. He responded within 24 hrs. and offered a couple times that were open, which was within two workdays, so Beck's is very responsive on the front end of the transaction. Caleb was my service advisor, and he came to me twice that morning to let me know what they discovered and how much it would cost. Once they replaced the brake pads, the mechanic drove the car and the brakes were still not functioning properly. Caleb returned and explained that they needed to replace the disc brake rotor and that it would take more time than the pads, what the cost would be. I approved the expense. Caleb offered me a shuttle service home, but I chose to wait, thinking it would be about an hour. Ended up waiting the entire 3 hours, but I had reading to do. The waiting area is in front and was quiet, with the TV in the background. I was very pleased with the service and work performed. We had always taken the car to the dealership before this, so when my husband and I became members of Angie's List, we looked up providers for auto repairs. We chose Beck's because I had met Rob at a business meeting, and because Beck's was highly rated by other Angie's List members. We are very glad to have found a competent and customer-oriented auto repair co. The price for labor was $25 per hr., which we find competitive and so much better than Rohrman! My only suggestion is that the receipt I received did not include the full description of the reason for replacement. Looks like a printer problem because the text is cut off in the middle of words. Other than that minor issue, we will schedule another visit soon for an oil change and possibly a tune-up if it's due.

I've been very happy with the service and the people are friendly too. They always give me a ride to work in the morning which is very helpful. They thoroughly go over the car every time and let me know if anything needs attention. There's never any pressure to do any work, they just want to let you know if there are any issues. Getting Becks Bucks in the mail afterwards is nice too. I'd highly recommend Beck's to anyone. They are honest, professional, and do quality work.

This is by far the best pre-purchase inspection I have had. I wish I knew this place earlier. They had the car inspected thoroughly and noted every details in the final report.

I decided to try Beck for an oil change after becoming disillusioned with the quick service oil change places in town. The staff there did a good job at a good price and Beck Muffler is now my go-to oil change place. I recommend you make an appointment , however, or you may have to wait a good while. Fortunately, the waiting area has a TV, magazines, and free wi-fi. The staff is friendly and professional.

Our Audi A4 suddenly turned noisy over the weekend. We decided to give Beck's a try after doing research on Angie's List. The shop is clean, and the staff is pleasant and professional. The car was fixed in about a half hour at a reasonable price. We are very happy with the result. This business is honest and does quality work

They were tremendous. I can't think of anything they didn't do that wasn't top notch for us.

It went well. My son was on his way back to Purdue from Chicago when he noticed his brakes were grinding. I did not want him to drive the car any further than he had to (we have a good mechanic here in the Indianapolis area) so I paid an extra $10 for the Angie's List in the Lafayette area. Beck's had great comments and they reminded me of my mechanic here. They were also very close to Purdue so I will be keeping them in mind for the future since I have another son going there for 4 more years. He took the car in and he received the quote from the work and had the work done all in the same day. He said they were great to work with.

Called them around 1:30pm and got an appt for 4:15pm to re-attach my exhaust piping and replace some hangers. Evaluation was complete by 4:30pm and work completed by 5:10pm. All connections were welded professionally and the exhaust sounds great! One of the best automotive experiences I've had.

I am very impressed with Beck's. I had them check a lot of things on my car. Some of which turned out to be no problem. The other was not fixable. They did not charge an arm and a leg for checking things. They explained everything they found and what they could or could not do to fix it. They did not try to sell me services I didn't need. I'll be back.

They have done an excellent job. They couldn't figure it out at first but then they figured it out and they didn't charge me. They did a great job. I like the customer service. The guy who takes care of me is really good and really thorough. They explain what they are going to do to the vehicle.

I hadn't had the exhaust on my car fixed before, so I didn't have a company to use. I looked up companies on Angie's list and Beck's had a lot of good reviews. I called them up, expecting to have to leave the car overnight. When I told him I had a Hyundai he said he was fairly confident he knew what the problem was and that it would only take 20 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. They got me in at 4:30pm. Sure enough, the flex pipe was the problem. They quickly fixed it and only charged me $80.00. They also told me that my engine mounts were starting to crack and should be replaced eventually. I told him that I was looking to sell the car in a year, and he said I could put it off for that long without any problem. The quote he gave me was quite reasonable. They were great to work with. I had a tight schedule and a limited budget, and they satisfied both of those requirements. I will definitely use them again, and I will use them for general repairs as well. Their prices will probably be lower than the current repair shop that I've been using. Thanks Beck's!!

I was told in 2011 that my sway bar needed replaced at a different auto center back in IL. At the time, I did not have the funds to replace it as it was not covered under the car care kit I purchased with the auto dealer when I purchased my car--How convenient! NOT!. In October of 2012, I took my Dodge Durango in to Beck's Auto Center to have the *sway bar* fixed. Well, it was actually the tie rod (what do I know, I'm not an auto mechanic :-)). They replaced my tie rod and also did a wheel alignment as well. They were very professional and explained to me what the problem was and that they also were going to replace it as well as do an alignment on my tires because they were unevenly worn. I believe, while my car was on the lift, they also inspected my brakes which is why they took so long in getting my car done. The bad news is, I will need to have them replaced and need to do it soon...ugh. Anyway, I will take it back to them to get the **loose ends** taken care of as they did a great job... The nice thing about Beck's is that at check out, they explained what all was performed on the vehicle and gave me a computer print out of the wheel alignment measurements. Jolie

Dropped the car off and picked up later. They changed the tie rod and also checked to see what was causing the pulling in the steering. Price was a little less than estimate. I am very happy with the service and plan to take back our vehicles when we have problems.

This was my second visit to Beck's. My first visit had not been perfect, with my setting up an appointment by phone in advance, dropping off my car and keys the night before the scheduled appointment, and then waiting for a call the next morning which never came -- Only to call myself in the afternoon and find that my car had not been worked on and noone seemed to have a record of the appointment. (??) But they then found the record in the system, acknowledged the error, and handled the repair fine. Based on the outcome, and the fact that I had read good recommendations for them and appreciated their involvement in the community and charitable activities, I accepted it as something minor. On the second visit, I was passing there anyway, so I stopped quickly to ask some questions and set up an appointment in person. One of the representatives appeared wearing his little headset, and the whole conversation, I felt like I was asking weird questions and generally imposing on him. If I knew the answers to my questions, I wouldn't have been asking them, right? The feeling of being viewed as dumb stayed with me. I'd like to follow through and build a relationship with a place that sounds like it can be trusted, but so far I haven't gotten past the way the young man looked at me and treated me. I had the oil change done elsewhere and I am on here currently looking for other recommendations. Perhaps I'll give them another chance someday but I'm not sure.

Had an idle issue on my truck and brought it to them to find the problem. They looked at many places and did a test drive but couldn't find any failing part. When I went to pick up my truck they took a good half hour explaining how the idle works and the module that controls it. They didn't do any dianogstics since it would show everything was ok anyway. I really liked the way they took the time to explain things and what I could possible do to correct the issue if happens again. They did not charge me anything for their time. I will definately go back to them. Earlier this year they replaced an a/c compressor on my wife's car and did an excellent job with that also.

They were very professional. Performed the task very timely and the price seemed pretty good.

They have very good customer service. The man there was very extensive. I had some work done and they even took a picture of the problem and showed it to me. They were very good with that.

Becks has never missed their estimated completion time, they communicate well, and their prices are fair for the quality of service. I will keep using them and have recommended them to others in need of car care.

They fixed the fuel pump and did a good job.
