We made an appointment with Tom Panyard at Williams who had sold us our furnace and he recommended the unit we bought and reviewed the process for applying for an energy efficiency rebate. The unit was installed two days later as scheduled. The installers arrived as scheduled, installed the unit promptly and cleaned up the area completely. Thy were most professional and polite.
Description of Work: A routine annual service check of our a/c showed that our 26 year old unit though serviceable would most likely need to be replaced in the near future (normal life expectancy 15 - 18 years). The service person did not recommend that we buy or attempt to sell us a unit. During the next ten days during a hat spell we decided to talk to the sales person who had sold us a furnace two years ago when ours "wore out".

Tom visited us and quoted a high efficiency furnace plus air conditioner service and a new outlet cover for the heat in our garage, plus a new cold air return inlet. He informed us of two rebate programs (state and utility) and a federal tax incentive available for high efficiency furnaces at that time. The job was done in one morning, including running new ductwork for the additional cold air return and checking and servicing the air conditioner. There were two technicians and they were both friendly and polite. The new covers for the existing cold air return and the heat outlet in the garage look great. All in all, I was very impressed overall with how well the job went. They did a great job, and the new furnace is much quieter than the old one. Tom did all of the paperwork for the rebate programs, and followed up with us to make sure the work was satisfactory.
Description of Work: Shelby Air installed a new high efficiency furnace. They also serviced our air conditioner, installed an additional cold air return, installed a new heat outlet register in the garage and installed a new cover for the existing cold air return.

Good crew of 2. Audit done professionally and explained it well. Work done as described and within the time frame. Selected Williams from work they did at our daughters house 2 years ago when we selected from Angie's List.
Description of Work: Second opinion of furnace recommendations: also energy audit and had work completed by energy audit; seal and insulate certain ducts, duct cleaning and cleaning blower wheel in furnace.

Thank you greatly for the praise. Auditing a home is proving far more valuable than people traditionally think. Through the process we identify a number of definicies within a home and we are currently offering the service at a great price. Thanks for the opportunity. Josh Huck 317-660-6979.

Williams had the cheapest quote. The saleman was nice but gave me less information on the specific unit than other companies had given me. After a couple more phone calls to ask questions about specifics and after researching their customer service history, we decided to use them. The installation was efficient. Blaise was great, he explained how to keep the air filters in a separate unit clean and was very considerate. It's been a little over a week and no problems so far.

They were punctual in the appointment, and easy to get hold of for follow up questions. It took a lot of investigating and web searching to figure out that they proposed a "builder" grade system that only had a 5 year factory warrenty, even though the bid guarenteed a 15 year warrenty. I am sure this company would have stood behind thier 15 year warrenty, but I would have been locked into this company for the last 10 years of the warrenty.
Description of Work: I got a bid to replace a 30 year old Gas Furance and A/C. This was one of three bids and they were competitive on price.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
It is unfortunate that we did not earn your business as the basis for your decision (research) is flawed on both topics. The model that was proposed to you and is documented on your written proposal was a Trane 3 ton system, model numbers XV80 furnace and XB14 heat pump. The term "builder grade" typically refers to the lowest efficiency model available which, in this case, would be the XB13 (13 SEER) system. The XB14 heat pump that was proposed performs up to 15 SEER (http://www.trane.com/Residential/Products/Heat-Pumps/XB14-Heat-Pump). Unfortunately for consumers, you cannot look at just the model number to determine the SEER. An XB14 is rated up to 15 SEER and not just 14 SEER. This system is not a baseline "builder grade" system. Our policy is to always propose the system that best meets your needs and your home's requirements for comfort. As for the warranty, we have a 10 YEAR STANDARD Trane Manufacturer equipment warranty on ALL PARTS. Most dealers are only able to offer a 5 Year as your research found. However, because of our standing with Trane and the value we place on our customers, we are able to offer the 10 year STANDARD manufacturer warranty. On top of that, we as a company would have continued this parts coverage an additional 5 years as well as covered all labor for the entire 15 years. If you specifically asked these questions to one of our team, I regret that you did not receive the correct information and I would like to know with whom you spoke. If your decision was swayed on your independent research then I regret we didn't have the opportunity to provide you the correct information. Lastly, regarding being locked into the maintenance agreement during the 15 years, we would have worked with you on that. Yes, you would have to professionally maintain your equipment throughout the entire 15 years. That just makes sense if we are going to provide a warranty on all parts and labor. We shouldn't cover something that isn't professionally done. However, after the initial 5 years with our service agreement, if we had not EARNED the right through superior service to continue serving you, then you could have chosen a different professional to maintain your system for the remaining 10 years during which time the warranty would have remained VALID. I am so sorry that these misunderstanding led to the loss of your valued patronage. If we can do anything for you in the future with regards to heating, cooling or plumbing, we welcome the opportunity to earn your business and trust. My best, Joe Huck - President.

Willams Comfort Air will not honor written and verbal satisfaction guarantee to remove the system and return our payment. Contracted Williams Comfort Air to install a Geothermal Heating / Cooling system in November 2009 for $23,575.00. The system will not consistently heat our home in winter. We believe the system is inadequate and poorly installed.
Description of Work: Company was hired to replace our current heating and cooling system with a new geothermal heating and cooling system.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
Williams Comfort Air has removed the geothermal system from the Thompson home and refunded her money. The Money Back Guarantee that you received states that we will make unlimited attempts to resolve the issue up to and including removing your new comfort system and refunding 100% of the equipment purchase price. We have attempted to continue to resolve the issues as you see them. Our efforts were "shut-down" upon your refusal to have a personal meeting with me, the President, when I took over the job. Member complaint reads as though you are requesting a refund of monies paid in the amount of $23,575. We did not received payment in full as requested. We have received $8,000 in payment since our contract was signed on 11/17/09, leaving a balance due of $16,175. Note: Your initial contract was in the amount of $23,575. You then added the purchase of a water heater which increased your financial obligation to $24,175. After our numerous attempts to reach a resolution, our company is being negatively affected by misleading information and public accusations via your homemade sign displayed on your property alongside a heavily traveled section of Allisonville Road. Williams Comfort Air is a name that, in a nutshell, represents 90+ local people and their families, all striving to do the right thing and serve our customers and community with expertise and honor. I find it very sad that your assumptions concerning our integrity, your lack of appreciation for the "above and beyond" benefits that we have provided, your premature assessment of your energy-savings, and your frustration over circumstances that sometimes happen in life have resulted in a public assassination of our company's character, expertise and integrity. We would still like to and are willing to reach a resolution outside of the legal system. We request: -Final payment of $16,175 -An established time to meet onsite to review the operations and energy savings of your geothermal system and complete any pending obligations. -The removal of the harmful homemade sign that is present on your property. As a final gesture of reaching an amicable solution, we will honor your 15 Year CAIRfree Warranty WITHOUT requiring that we provide the annual maintenance on your new geothermal system AFTER a two year period. Why? If we cannot repair our relationship and EARN the right to continue maintaining your system through the skills and abilities of our team, then you should find another provider. You must continue to professionally maintain your system for our warranty to remain valid. It is my sincere hope that you will meet with me to resolve this unpleasant issue. Following is a condensed summary of letter to Member so other members can have a better understanding of this issue: Your home being remodeling. We advised TWO systems be used to properly heat home. You insisted on ONE system only. We presented option and noted all shortcomings. Current ceiling radiant heat was only partially functioning. New system had to heat about 200 sq. ft. that was previously unheated. About half of house had no existing attic insulation. Several areas of ceiling had been removed (one hole allowed outside light to be visible). Attic was full of raccoon feces that you committed to remove before installation. You were told that loop installation was currently book many weeks out and was weather dependent. We offered to install ductwork and geothermal unit with back-up heat since you basically had almost no heat. We arrived to an attic of raccoon feces that had not been removed. Installer continued in this unsafe environment after laying down cardboard. Stink was still awful! You complained the back-up heat was running too much and not giving enough heat. This was the day after our coldest day at that time - 39°/32°. Yes the back-up heat was doing the work - loop had NOT been installed yet. It could not keep up because of lack of insulation and holes in ceiling. Met with you to resolve concerns. Member stated she may not want to continue with us. We offered to remove unit and refund the $500 paid BEFORE the loop was installed. Member CHOSE to proceed. We provided many things not included in our contract to help Member with remodel. TWO crews sent to install loop. 12/28 Box trucks and heavy equipment unable to traverse driveway due to ice and snow. Same on 12/29 so loop started on 12/30. Drilling of loop completed 12/31, leaving line to the house and flush & fill to be completed. Weather 12/29 - 1/14 was frigid and prevented boring line to home (frozen ground). We asked to dig connecting line (instead of bore). Unfortunately, this meant unplanned trench in yard. Permission given and loop completed. You had concerns about placement of line to house because of possible future garage footer. You complained about difference in temp from downstairs to the upstairs. We responded that temp differential was result of lack of insulation in the attic. You said all things completed to your satisfaction with exception of a single return in the ceiling. We requested a payment of $17,000 toward your balance due (almost TWO months since job began and we had only $500). You provided check for $7,500 (making your total payments $8,000). You had your insulation installed. You stated that the temperature variance within home was corrected. You were still concerned about the running of auxiliary heat. Auxiliary heat will always be needed where temperatures drop below freezing but geothermal unit generates majority of heating needs. During the time you complained, loop had not been installed and there was inadequate insulation during a cold December. After loop installed but BEFORE your insulation was installed, the temperatures were 28°/17° (January) and 2/10 - 31°/18° (February). Clearly auxiliary heat would be needed. You accused us of creating ice dams on roof. Ice dams are caused by melting snow due to: (1) sun (2) heat loss. After the installation of your geothermal system, your home would have experienced much heat loss prior to your insulation being installed on 2/5/10. Why? There was no insulation, but also because your home was actually being heated now, whereas before half of your radiant ceiling wasn't providing any heat at all to be lost through the roof. You requested manuals and system specifications. We asked for final payment before providing them. You would not pay. You documented your electric bills covering Aug - mid Jan indicating that system was installed incorrectly because of huge leap in bills. You judged the efficiency of a new system with data obtained while the (1) system is not completely installed, (2) the home is under construction (remodel) with unusual circumstances such as removed ceilings and no insulation, and (3) you are comparing electric bills for months with drastically different temperatures. You also accused us of damaging your septic system and covering it up. We are human and make mistakes. We HAVE accidentally damaged a septic system while installing a system before. We did NOT perform a "covert" repair and proceed with business as usual. We acknowledged and took responsibility for our error. We hired a contractor to make repairs at our expense. This is our way of handling errors... up-front and with integrity. Based on this precedent, we certainly would have let you know of any septic damage and then had our team at Metzler's Mr. Plumber repair the damage at no charge to you. Our loop crew DID expose the septic line after which they carefully HAND DUG around it to prevent damage. There was NO damage when they covered the lines. You stated this septic system was six months old and your contractor assures you it was not their error. I cannot speak to that company's assurance, but I will back-up the integrity of my team without hesitation. I requested and was denied a face-to-face onsite meeting to ensure/show that your system is operating properly and to address any and all concerns that you have with your system's operation and installation. We then filed a lien against your property. This matter has been turned over to our attorney to collect the balance of your account. Sincerely, Joe Huck - President

This has to be the worst experience we have ever had. It all began when Rick White(salesman) increased the contract by $10,000--said it was a math mistake. These units do not heat our home, and are very noisy through our whole home. Our home is cold and we have a constant hum, whistle and vibrating noise from the compressors. Our first complaint began to Waterfurnace the day they became operational (Oct 8, 2009) Williams received their first complaint Oct. 9, 2009. These units are still unsatisfactory and will never perform correctly in our home and they are still not up to city code (three pages of violations). Williams has been here numerous times and still has not corrected any problem with these units. We have a basement family room where the temperature averages 50-60 degrees and our masterbath averages 62-65 and our electric bills run over $400 a month due to having to use emergency heat for noise and heating. We have had an expert in heating and cooling come in and identify the problems that Williams Comfort Air failed to find and we now have the answers. Due to damage Williams has caused, and a rather abrasive attitude when confronted with our list of problems, we will not have them in our home again. Our home is in worse shape now than before they were here. These units do not heat our home as promised and have not met the promised savings for us in energy costs. If you are looking for a heating and cooling contractor, we would suggest you search for one who does an evaluation of your home and the heating and cooling needs. This whole thing has been a nightmare and nothing has been solved since our original complaint in October 2009. Williams has not found any answers except to stuff the units with insulation and build a room in our utility room and blame the units, our home, lack of a proper door, cool air return and dual thermostat--all of which are the incorrect answer to our problems with these WaterFurnace Units. We have found all these answers and more by hiring a qualified mechanical equipment consultant who has provided us with a very intensive study of our home and identified each and every problem with these units that could not be found by Williams. We have mounting electrical and plumbing costs due to this installation that was done by Williams Comfort Air unlicensed plumbers and electricians. The units failed the first city inspection and Williams Comfort Air was fined. They are still not up to city code and this problem remains.
Description of Work: Install geothermal WaterFurnaces (two units) and water heater. Remove old units and install lines.

I am very sorry that after our numerous attempts to meet your wants you feel that we have been unprofessional, unresponsive, and basically the source of your difficulties. To clarify the actions taken by Williams Comfort Air and to respectfully expand upon your complaints, our documented information pertaining to your listed complaints follows. 8/20/09 - A proposal was made for the installation of geothermal systems showing your total investment (after the federal tax credit) to be $24,220 for geothermal systems valued at $41,200. 8/24/09 - You visited our interactive showroom to see and hear our operating geothermal systems. At that time you chose to proceed and your contract was completed. Mr. White mistakenly transferred your investment after the federal tax credit to the Balance Due Upon Completion line of the contract. After the member signed the contract but before you left the showroom, Mr. White realized his error, corrected it, and the member initialed the correction. 10/09/09 - We received notification that your geothermal systems were noisy. 10/19/09 - We visited your home with you and the WaterFurnace representatives present. We were unable to duplicate the objectionable noise. The WaterFurnace representatives found the units to be installed correctly and not noisy. We still brainstormed solutions to help you and acted upon them, some being to correct problems that existed prior to our involvement. 12/14/09 - We revisited your home with you and the WaterFurnace representatives present. Again the objectionable noise could not be recreated. We documented that the sound levels were below 55db as measured by the WaterFurnace sound measuring instruments. Both units were found to be installed per WaterFurnace installation instructions. 1/04/10 - We received your agreed upon payment less a pool repair charge. During this time, we discussed that many of the issues being presented were related to your existing home features prior to the installation of the geothermal systems. These include your existing home's building products, existing air distribution systems, windows, doors, and the home's sound absorbing qualities. We discussed that the lower level of your home is conditioned by the second level system and that the thermostat is on the second level. Without converting the systems to zone-controlled systems, the lower level will not be the same temperature as the mid or upper level. We also discussed that the lower level does not have and has not had a return air inlet. We discussed that your previous heating system was gas fired and pulled all of its combustion air from the lower level which would warm the area with air pulled down the stairs into the lower level. Geothermal systems do not do this and may have resulted in the lower level coolness. Although we did pull the required heating permit, we were fined by the Shelbyville Building Commission for not pulling an electrical permit prior to the installation of your systems. An electrical permit is not necessary in most other counties and we were unaware of this need. This does not excuse the offense: we paid the fine and are now aware of this requirement in Shelby county. I firmly believe that we have done all that we can do to remedy a situation that could not be duplicated. I am certain that your systems were installed correctly. I am equally certain that we have been professional, responsive, and more than accommodating and fair. I regret that you do not share this belief. I wish you the best and will certainly always hold you as a valued client. Joe Huck - President

They promptly showed up for the emergency heat out call. Diagnosis was quick & thourogh. Serive tech discussed risk benefit of attempting to repair vs. replacement. Once decision was made to replace, install coordinator was there same night. They also provided loaner space heaters. Installers showed next day on time. Removal was smooth, with no damage to house. Install was quick, smooth and trouble free. They explained available rebates (Fed tax credit, gas co., electric co. state), submitted paper work for electric co. rebate (required some technical data the consumer doesn't have access to), and were generally very helpful.

That is great to hear that you are satisfied with the process and installation and I will share with Roger, Frank and Jay. I noticed that a couple of days ago you attempted to set a service call on your plumbing system, but for one reason or another the call was canceled. Your new system included a unique plumbing inspection which we could have performed and addressed the leak you were having. On New Year's Day I woke up to a cold house. I called Williams Comfort Air and got their emergency service.( I had previously been researching heating companies on Angie's List because my furnace had been extra noisy). I promptly got a call back and a repairman came out. I had been contemplating buying an energy star furnace and I asked the repairman to give me details. He connected me with the owner of the company who gave me a rough quote. I decided to have a new furnace installed. The owner sent out an extremely professional representative. They couldn't install the furnace since it was a holiday, so they brought in three space heaters and set them up for me. My old furnace was intermittently working so it was 60 degrees which allowed me to stay in my house. Besides being extremely professional the representative was very considerate. My Christmas tree was in a box in the living room since I had just taken it down. He offered to put it in the garage for me and to have the repairman put it in the attic when they were installing the furnace. This was above and beyond any customer service experience I had had. A crew came the next day which was a Saturday to install my furnace. They did an excellent job. When they cleaned up after the job my garage looked better than when they started. I have already recommended them to a close friend of mine. It's important to me as a single woman to be treated with respect and to feel safe when workers come to my house. I would heartily recommend Williams Comfort Air to everybody!
Description of Work: They replaced my furnace with an energy star furnace.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on such an awesome testimony about our team. It is refreshing to hear positive feedback in a world where people often act only when things go wrong. It certainly shows you to be extraordinary. I am extremely pleased that our team lived out our position statement... "your most important choice is WHO installs your new system". We truly believe that we have a team of unmatched excellence, both professionally and personally. We look forward to continuing our relationship and building new ones with your friends and family. We appreciate your referrals and will continue to meet your heating, cooling, and plumbing needs with excellence. And, yes, we will meet your "putting up the Christmas tree" or "bring up the trash can" needs whenever we have the opportunity. Josh Huck 317-660-6979.

I used this company to get quotes. I was so impressed with the professionalism of the salesperson for my furnace, I thought about considering them. I decided against them because I called Broad Ripple Heating and Air and they gave me a quote that was 1,600 less with the option to see if they could repair it. I believe the work would have been good and the professionalism to continue to the end, but I went with another company.

Thank you for the opportunity. I assume that the estimates were comparing apples to apples (equipment, efficiency, warranty, etc.) as we maintain that for the same products and/or services we will match any of our competitors pricing. Please feel free to call us if you need anything and again thank you for the opportunity. Josh Huck 317-660-6979

As my husband and I considered the estimate, I also spoke to other companies, collecting other estimates. Jay called us back twice to answer any questions we still might have. During those calls, he offered to add items at no charge when I inquired about them. After my husband and I decided to start considering a less expensive model of furnace, and I asked Jay for an estimate for a less expensive model, I feel Jay blew us off. Instead of returning my phone call to ask a question, I received an email, and one email was answered with one word. I feel that once we decided to not get the high end system, we were blown off. We ended up using another company.
Description of Work: We are considering replacing our heating and cooling system. I called William's Comfort Air in response to an ad they ran in the newspaper. A salesman, Jay, came to our home during the evening, which was appreciated, so my husband could also be home for the estimate. Jay took time to look through our home and hear our story before writing up an estimate. He thoroughly explained to us how heating and cooling systems work and answered any questions we had. He wrote up an estimate for a 96 % efficient furnace and air conditioner system.

Let me first apologize for the delay in responding to your comments. Unfortunately, this delay has probably confirmed to you that your initial experience with our team is standard and acceptable. That's probably what I would think if I were in your shoes. Although I have not responded to you in a timely manner, we did implement internal corrective measures shortly after receiving your report. Your feedback concerning Mr. Heidenreich was extremely disappointing to hear. The unprofessional and inconsiderate treatment that you received is NOT acceptable within our company. One thing that I know and am not hesitant to share is that our company is a group of great humans who make mistakes and poor decisions from time to time. Your feedback is how we are made aware of the areas in which we need to improve, and we greatly appreciate your help. I cannot turn back the clock to prevent your experience, but I can (1) assure you that corrective measures have been taken and (2) thank you for your help by offering you a one year CAIRfree Plumbing Maintenance Agreement at no charge and with no strings attached. I simply would like the opportunity for the 80+ other members of our team to serve you with the professionalism, expertise, and integrity that we expect at Williams Comfort Air and Metzler's Mr. Plumber. My best, Joe Huck - President.

These guys are wonderful... we even included a picture of their work on our Christmas card this year! We responded to an advertisement that someone had given to us from the newspaper; we were just curious about the option of "green" heating/cooling. During the intial part of the process, we actually confirmed that our current furnace was no longer operating properly (it was over 20 years old). We thought we'd wait a few years to do geothermal, but we had to replace the furnace, so now was the time. The representatives from Williams were wonderful. We did look at another company in the process, but we were sold by Williams "Vertizontal Loop" system. We were a bit late in the season, so the external portion of the installation took a bit longer, but when added up, the job took no more than three days inside and three days outside. The crews were friendly, knowledgable, and let us photograph everything from start to finish. Our house and yard were left in great shape. EVERYTHING was taken away - nothing left behind. We've been using the geothermal system for a few months now, and we love it. We are already seeing savings. The tax credits and discount from Williams inspired us at first, and it's clear to see that we made the correct decision in choosing this contractor.
Description of Work: We installed a geothermal system in our home.

This is absolutely incredible feedback! I am happy to hear that the process and installation went well. You have definitely made the right choice in going green with geothermal (and the Vertizontal loop as I can see!). The completed installation looked very impressive and the smiles on your faces seal the deal. Although you spent just a bit more for your system, you will experience tremendous value both in payback, reduced operating costs and better comfort. I probably do not need to tell you this though! All I can ask now is that you assist us in spreading the word on the overwhelming advantages to using geothermal... did I forget to mention the more than $5000 in tax credits you are eligible for? This is wonderful and thank you for the pictures as well. Please do not forgot the complimentary maintenance visits that you have coming to you in the Spring. You should receive a postcard reminder in March/April to call and schedule. Thank you for the opportunity, I hope all is well. Josh Huck 317-660-6979.

It went really well. They were here all day and it was expensive because we have a big house so there are a lot of ducts that they had to clean. They were very conscientious and they showed us what they could do with the camera. They were very nice and offered to answer any questions that we had. It was more money than I thought I would have to spend but you get what you pay for and they ran their equipment through the entire system.

Thank you for the great feedback. Because of many illegitimate marketing practices in our area, many homeowners believe that duct cleanings are an inexpensive service and require no time to perform. It takes a great deal of time, training and very high powered equipment to complete a thorough duct cleaning on a home - especially a big one like yours!

I looked into several companies and chose them. The representative took a lot of time and explained everything, including any questions or concerns that I had. They cleaned up when they were done, and in fact the basement is in better condition than when they first came! They went above and beyond my expectations. The work that they do is very time consuming, and I was impressed with how they handled it. I would highly recommend them.

They have a plumbing division too. Their pricing and sizing analysis was very good. My brother-in-law too had used them and was extremely happy with them. They installed a new furnace and central air conditioner and heating for him. They also installed an all-new duct work above and below. The pricing on that one was fantastic. They did a great job for him. I got three different bids and their price was the best that I got. We scheduled them for a day and they came in and did the work.
