Williams' team of three installers arrived at 8:30 A.M. on the scheduled installation date. They worked very efficiently and answered all of my questions about the new systems and installation. They were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable on all aspects of their work. They completed the job by 5:30 P.M., and we're very satisfied with our new systems!

They were on time and very courteous. The job was performed perfectly and my heat vents now blow hot air instead of cold air. This was money well spent on a company I can count on. I learned that Mr. Dave Parker, my installer is a retired Marine. He really has my respect.

They sent two crews to do the work and had all of the installation completely done in two days. They worked very professionally and efficiently, and were respectful of the property. Everyone was pleasant and polite. We had other contractors and workers here at the same time and everyone was able to do their work and not get in the way of others. The two men that did the cleaning and inspection also were very pleasant. They kept me informed as to what they were doing, and explained to me the problems that were found and what was necessary to fix them, including the cost.
Description of Work: Installed two additional new heat pumps & AC units including all new ductwork, vents and thermostats. Additionally, cleaned and inspected three existing HVAC systems, replaced one faulty electrostatic filter unit, installed two new furnace mounted humidifier units and replaced three thermostats.

Air conditioning units never fail on cool days - it's always when it's 110-degrees in the shade when they decide to end their useful service. Such was the case with our unit. It wasn't that old so we were not quite prepared to have to deal with replacing it. Williams Comfort Air was very prompt in sending a repairman to assess the situation and after he determined that he couldn't locate the source of the freon leak without draining and pressurizing the system (a somewhat costly process) we opted to purchase a new unit. Despite a very full schedule we were able to get a new unit installed within a day. The sales person, Don McWhirter, was very good at helping us choose the size and type of unit to install and the installers were very professional and very good. Unlike some other installers we've had in the past who were not very attentive to cleaning up the work area before they left, this installation crew did an excellent job cleaning up the area when they were finished. This was not our first use of Williams Comfort Air and like other times, they demonstrated that they are a firm that can be depended on to provide an honest appraisal of what model will suit your needs (and pocketbook) best and they will provide followup service that is dependable and thorough.

Shawn was very professional and courteous. He did our fall tune up on our furnace. While our visit was "paid for," Shawn encouraged me to buy another year's maintenance plan. Tom Panyard -- Williams Comfort Air Comfort Consultant and Tom Doll -- Sales Manager, initially advised us as to the various options for replacing our heat pump and provided findings for additional items in need of repair or replacement. The projected cost of their services and the extended warranty of the product were the best in the market. The day of the installation, the staff arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and were most courteous in regard to our home. The original equipment was hauled away and our home was left in the same condition as before the installation. Covers were worn on the staff shoes and drop cloths were down at all times to protect our home. We highly recommend this company not only for their knowledge and professionalism but for their outstanding customer service and follow-up. We are most confident that should any problems occur in the future that they will be there to make it right. Williams Comfort Air is #1 in our book.
Description of Work: Installed a Trane 3-1/2 Ton Heat Pump System with a variable speed blower and Honeywell digital programmable thermostat. Additional services provided were: 1) correction of recessed lighting ducts in the family room and kitchen, 2) sealed the ducting joints in the attic and crawl space and corrected the air flow in the back two bedrooms.

This was the first time I used this company. I called them because my A/C was blowing out warm air. I called at 4:30pm and the technician Michael arrived a little before 6pm on that same day. I was very impressed with the quick service. He explained to me that I needed to have my Dual Capacitor replaced. I let him do the work, and after he left, my air started to get cold again. I ended up paying $385.00 for this service. This price also included a Maintenance inspection service, which allowed me two maintenance inspections in a year?s time. If I hadn?t signed up for this deal, I would?ve ended up paying $378, so I said; why not go ahead and get the Maintenance agreement, it was only a few bucks more. The very next day when I came home from work, I go to turn on my A/C, it?s not working and blowing out warm air again. I call them back out; they send a different guy this time. Chris seemed just as knowledgeable as the last. He found wires to crankcase heat frayed and they blew apart when touched metal, causing breaker to trip. He told me I can get this fixed at a later date, when I decide to; it will cost me $285. He said this is a discount rate because of the Maintenance inspection service I signed up for the day before and that I?m locked into this price when I decide to get this repair done. I appreciated this assurance. Once he left, my air was blowing cold air again and he charged me nothing for having to come out on the second day. Overall, I?m not sure what I think of this company. I wish I knew for sure if I really had needed the dual capacitor replaced. My suspicions are telling me, it may have been the crankcase heater all along that tripped the breaker, causing warm air to blow out, and that this is what should?ve been repaired in the first place. So now I?m contemplating whether or not I should call them back to repair the crankcase heater or call someone else. I was told by another source that residential units may not necessarily need the crankcase heater. I?m not sure what to do.

The service technician, Roger, spent a lot of time doing the inspection so we thought he was being thorough. When complete, he went into sales mode and talked us into an annual cleaning program, humidifiers, etc. The day after our closing - both air conditioners went out. We called in another HVAC company and learned that the freon was low in both air conditioners. This should have been caught with a simple measurement during the inspection.

I am sorry for the experience which has lead to a report like this. I have reviewed the invoice and summary of findings from Roger’s visit and agree that a simple measurement could have eliminated this hassle and likely discovered the level of charge that your system had. Although correct that the system always needs routine maintenance, we were called to the home to evaluate the system prior to you purchasing the home and did not complete this. At the time of service, Roger began his diagnosis by measuring the difference between the air entering the furnace and the air exiting the furnace. This is a very generic method used to inform the technician how well the air is conditioning (or how well heat is transferring). In certain indoor and outdoor conditions, this method leads the technician in to further diagnostics if they do not see a desired difference in temperature (i.e. hooking up his freon gauges). Several weeks after Roger’s visit, our technician Todd broke the news the system was indeed low. He divulged to me that he did advise that you contact the original installer who should still warranty the workmanship on the system. Please note that it is not our normal procedure to recommend another contractor be brought in to the mix. After speaking with the technician I learned that he felt this recommendation would in the long run cost you the least, as we cannot warrant another company’s labor errors unless the warranty is backed by the manufacturer. We want to make this right and have confidence in our diagnosis. As a sign, I would like to offer a one year extension of the service plan that you are current a member of. Please note that this includes two additional visits on top of the two visits that your current agreement has (one visit in the Cooling season and one visit some time heating season). Please feel free to email me if this is acceptable to you. You can reach me direct at [email protected] or 317-660-6979. Josh Huck.

Everything went well until about 3 weeks after the installation.I noticed that the ductwork exiting the dehumidifier to the the hvac sytem had pulled away from the dehumidifier because it had never been attached with metal screws, only force fit,a big problem. The response I first got from calling for service was will try to get it today, maybe.then the sales person called after I complained and said it would not be until the next day.Amazingly, someone showed up that afternoon to attach it properly.Poor quality control on the install and weak on their responses to my issue even though they came out that day.We will reluctantly continue to use them since we just installed this. One more issue like this though and we will move on.My suggestion, challenge everything they recommend and review as much of their work as you can to make sure you are getting what you paid for.

I am sorry that you experienced this slight snag with your new dehumidification system. I assure you that after Keith's and Mike's visit the ductwork is attached and secured in a better fashion. Immediately following the repair of the ductwork, the crew that installed was addressed as ductwork falling off of an appliance does not align with the expected quality that Williams Comfort Air has spent so much time, effort and training building. The tech was great! He basically taught us how to use the old AC/duct system with the dampers (who knew you could re-route air through the house using these?!) in our 1920s house. After he left, there was a noticeable difference in the temp upstairs, where it had been very uncomfortable prior to him servicing the AC. We also signed up for bi-yearly AC cleaning services.

I am very sorry to give a bad report for Williams, I have used them for years, but this experience was disappointing. They called to offer a free A/C tuneup under my service contract. My contract had expired and I had already had all the tuneups, but they insisted that I was entitled to one. Not one to turn down a free anything, I accepted. The system has cooled great all summer but what could go wrong with a free tune-up? They offered a "first thing" appointment and were very timely. The tech told me that they system is low on refrigerant and one of the plugs on the outside unit has burn marks, this 19-year-old system should be replaced. He will not add refrigerant to a leaking system because "we are a green company." To do a leak check will be $200, to fix the leak will probably run another $350-400. He encouraged me to schedule an appointment to get an estimate for a new energy-efficient system, tax credit, replace the furnace too for only $800 more, etc. I said no thanks, I will talk to my wife but we will probably wait until next year. Three days later (on a Saturday) the system stopped cooling, the outside unit and fan are running but no air coming from vents. Called service, on weekends it's first come first serve, but I won't be home, they agree to come Sunday after 1:00. Tech arrived and immediately said the evaporator coil on the inside unit is frozen up, almost certainly due to a Freon leak in the coil, he can replace tomorrow for $2000, $1700 because I have the maintenance contract, or would I like to schedule an appointment to have an estimate for a new system? I schedule the estimate appointment but also make an appointment with another company to get a second opinion. I explained to the Williams estimator that I have another company coming. He was completely unaware and baffled that Williams will not add refrigerant to the system, we agreed that it would be a waste of time for him to do an estimate unless the other company agrees that my only options are replace the coil or the system. The other company arrives, the tech said that he will add Freon, try to get as much use out of the old system for now. When I looked back at my service records, I saw that Williams had done exactly that in March 2009, 15 months ago. Did Williams offer me the "free" tuneup just to get a tech out here to talk me into replacing my system? Did he release some Freon when he did the test? Does Williams tell people that they won't add Freon in order to force them to consider a new system in lieu of an expensive repair? Why did one Williams tech tell me that I would need a leak search and repair ($600), and the other Williams tech told me I needed a new coil ($1700)? I don't know the answers to these questions, and maybe I am being an environmental pig by pumping Freon into a leaky system, but for now Williams lost a loyal customer on this one.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
I am sorry to hear that you are displeased with our service. You are correct – our call center mistook some of the entries in our management software and miss-informed you of the visit owed to you. This aside, Chris’ recommendations on the 18th were just that – recommendations. The age of your system combined with the ill performance due the lack of Freon definitely make any repairs needed to get the appliance optimally running would be a poor investment. This was reinforced both by the technician that visited your home on the weekend (I add without question even after noting that our recommendations were not followed), and the company that added freon. Unfortunately, no company – including the company who chose to add freon, which we commonly refer to as a “gas and go”, cannot ensure any performance or operation when they willing add refrigerant to a leaking system. In the spring of 2010 Williams Comfort Air change our policy of gasing and going, and required that this terrible environmentally damaging practice that our industry has so poorly educated the public of be stopped if the means required to repair the leak were not identified. Our policy requires that we identify where the system is leaking along with the severity of the leak prior to adding Freon. Although the law does not specifically disallow us to add freon to a leaking system, it is very vague and is a line that we wish not cross, so we prefer to have our ducks in a row. Knowing that the technician divulged all of this to you should make you feel good. I personally feel that anyone who continues to pump in freon to a leaking system every year is doing you a great disservice and am curious to know who from our company did this in 2009 – it is not noted on the invoices we have on file. Refrigerant systems never needed “refilled” or “topped off” as many people refer to it. They are only efficient when completely sealed and charged properly – if it is leaking all of the time it is never properly charged. Should a customer absolutely refuse to identify the leak and demand freon only or else, the technicians are instructed to contact their supervisor to see what can be worked out. Not so commonly we will provide the “gas and go” disservice that is demanded, only costing the homeowner a great deal of money and likely damage, frustration and poor performance of their air conditioning system. I apologize that we did not communicate this effectively as I never wish to lose a customer. Thank you for the opportunity. Josh Huck 317-660-6979.

I am very happy with them, they did an excellent job. It took them less than a day. They did a lot of extras, they installed an inlet in addition to the exisiting one, they replaced the grill on the exisiting one, they replaced a heat outlet in the garage, they serviced the AC and those are the basics of what they did. He came out and estimated the job, then came back out a week before the installation to make sure he had everything. I added something onto the job at that time and then they did the installation. He came out and checked to make sure everything was okay. He was out here a total of four times. There is a tax rebate that he helped us with and there was also a rebate from the gas company because it was a high efficiency furnace and from the state of Indiana. They did as much of the paperwork as they could so we basically had to do nothing more than sign our names. He did everything for us. I can't praise them highly enough.

We called Williams and told them the problem but they could not just order the part - they needed to come out and confirm the problem themselves. Once they did, they needed to order the part and then recommended a service contract to cover the work that would be required and provide seasonal maintenance. While we already had a contract with another firm, Williams told us that the out of pocket cost for installing the new coils would be more than what was covered under the warranty due to how the system was configured in our particular situation. We signed the contract and then they ordered the part. We called them on Thursday and then again a couple of times on Friday (they had not tracking from Carrier for the part) because they said is "usually" takes two days. Fortunately, at the last minute on Friday, the part came in and they sent a service professional to our house who completed all the work. He was excellent, polite and considerate and took the time to make sure it was done right.
Description of Work: Warranty work on our air conditioning coils. Our normal provider found leaks in our coils but they could not perform the work because they were not an authorized Carrier company. We had to call Carrier and they gave us options of certified dealers in our area and we chose Williams because of their Angie's List history.

Thank you for the feedback. As you are aware, this year was a really hot one! We appreciate the opportunity. That is unfortunate that another provider would not honor the warranty that the manfucturer supplies - are they not a licensed contractor? Do they have a relationship with the local vendor (supply house) that carries Carrier? Very strange. Regardless, amidst the thousands of customers without cooling I am impressed in our ability to confirm the diagnosis and replace a coil (pretty extensive repair) in such a short time. I will share the experience with the technician (Allen). Thank you again for the opportunity. Josh Huck 317-660-6979.

Needless to say we were not at all happy with Williams Comfort Air. They are obviously in the business to sell new air conditioners and furnaces, not fix existing ones. Feels very shady. When the company called to ask how the call went, I expressed my displeasure that they focused solely on trying to sell me new equipment I did not need, and left us stranded when they could have mentioned the same temporary solution the second provider offered.. re-routing around the control board. They said the company was very big on customer service... I said it appeared what they were big on was selling equipment.
Description of Work: The air conditioner was not working on a very hot Saturday morning in July. The repair man was quite pleasant, however, told us the air conditioner and furnace were both on their last legs (15 years old) and while he could fix it for about $1200 (it was an extra couple of hundred because he had to get a part out of the warehouse on a Saturday), he thought it would be better to just buy two new units. He sent a saleman out to provide quotes on a new system and they left us with a hot house and a $300 bill for the service call and a maintenance contract. We got a second opinion from another provider, who said the furnace just needed a new control board, and the total bill was less than $500 (no extra charges because of a Saturday part). He also felt the furnace and air conditioner could easily last another 10 or more years and did not need to be replaced. He rewired around the control board to get the air running immediately and came back later with the control board replacement.

I am sorry to hear about this from one of our vetran technicians. I will review this with him and the rest of our staff. Although a 15 year old system is defintely a system nearing borrowed time, but it is not our job to judge, only to diagnosis, present options to assist you in making the decision. In this case we clearly missed the diagnosis. If you wish, feel free to mail me a copy of the service ticket from teh other other company and I will reimburse you for the costs incurred with Williams. I am sorry for the poor experience and thank you for the opportunity. Josh Huck - 1077 3rd Ave SW - Carmel, IN 46032 - 317-660-6979.

My experience was very good. They were prompt and did a fine job. I have not had any problems with either of my units. I have noticed a definite cost savings with the new efficient units.
Description of Work: They replaced my heating and air conditioning units with more efficient ones.

Thank you for the praise. I see that we did indeed install a new system back in May of 2009! We appreciate the opportunity and please remember to keep up on the maintenance and please refer friends family and neighbors - it will pay off, literally! Thanks again for the opportunity. When he was replacing the capaciter he indicated the fan motor was producing high amps around .77 to .78 the max on the model was .80. and suggest replacing the fan motor. When I declined he then indicated he was removing my warranty from my capaciter. I could tell this upset him. I then contacted another HVAC tech... here is his response (exact quote): Sounds like he is trying to up sale a motor, but he isn't really telling you something that isn't true. First of all I never give a warranty on capacitors and have never known anyone else to. Once I pull out of the drive way there is no labor warranty. The capacitors have a manufacture warranty I think of 30 days but he doesn't have the power to void a manufacture warranty. Besides if the fan goes out it's not going to take the capacitor with it and if you need a new fan chances are it is going to require a dedicated capacitor of it's own if it is a universal motor and not a direct factory replacement which is much more expensive. If the motor exceeds it's amp draw it will lock out and not run anymore so as long as you have cooling there is no reason to change the motor until it breaks unless you just want to avoid paying another service call later on down the road or be without cooling for a short time when it finally does lock out. It will cost you this extra service call down the road compared to doing it while he is there, but that's about it.
Description of Work: A/C outdoor unit wasn't turning on. Had a bad capaciter and they replaced it. The quote was $249 (incl coupon for free service and $57 tuneup) along with 90 warranty.

I am certainly confused - the technician recommended you replaced the motor which is likely the reason the capacitor failed. You declined but wanted to verify what he said and found that what he said was correct. Taking it further, your source stated that they would not offer a warranty on the part (fyi the manuafcturer warrants the part) but we do, so you decided to write negative feedback on Angie's list about the company? I can only hope that other subscribers take this one in stride - Thank you for the opportunity - I will discuss with the technician that under no circumstances can we judge your decision, only make the best and move on - for this I do apologize.
