Our house is 20 years old and still had original furnace and air conditioner. The air conditioner was not working properly so we got 3 quotes from local Heating and AC companies to replace both units. The quote from Williams was the best one received when taking into consideration all factors: price, system types, maintenance and warranty. One big plus was the warranty--which is transferrable. This was key since we are looking to sell within the next year or two. Don (who quoted the job) was extremely helpful and answered all questions--even gave us his cell so we could call when we had additional questions during our decision-making. The service technicians were very professional and polite. They answered questions and performed their jobs expertly. They took away the old units and cleaned up everything. They were done in one day. We were very satisfied with their work and things went extremely well. They explained the new thermostat, air filter replacement, and warranty thoroughly and made sure we were comfortable with everything before they left. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a heating and/or air conditioning need!!
Description of Work: They did a replacement of both the furnace and air conditioner.

Overall, I was very happy with the techs. I am extremely dissatisfied with the office staff and management and out $94 as a result. They don't seem to understand what their techs are allowed to do and are apparently too busy with bigger issues to return calls. I would recommend against using Williams because I think you will get nickel and dimed to death and no one will be there to answer any questions after the fact. I use Angie's List Super Service suppliers knowing that I will likely pay a bit more but the service before and after will be outstanding. Williams failed against that expectation. In comparison, I called another local company and had an equally competent tech at my house the next day. He refilled the system with 1 lb of refrigerant at a lower cost than Williams was charging. No lines about policies and mandatory leak checks. He even double checked his equipment when i mentioned that Williams said they system needed 2 lbs (which would have been another $100+ in overcharge).
Description of Work: Williams Comfort Air was asked to come and recharge a system that was low on refrigerant and had resulted in a frozen coil. Alan and Craig arrived on time and were very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I explained again to them that I was 1-2lbs low on refrigerant and was not interested in a new unit, only a recharge. Alan hooked up the digital manifold and confirmed that the system was low and it read low by over 2 lbs. They informed me that they were not permitted to recharge the system without finding and fixing the leak or their company would be shutdown. The performed some quick visual superficial leak checks on the condenser and coil and then declared that they would not be able to do anything further without at least $800 for a real leak check. They also informed me that given what I told their receptionist / answering service, they felt that they should not have been dispatched. Alan told me that I should have been informed that the requested service was against company policy but since they had come out, I owed $94.60 for the "diagnostic fee". He also suggested that I call there office to discuss the matter. Up to this point, I was very happy with their on-site service and if I could hire Alan or Craig directly or through another company, I absolutely would. Unfortunately they work for Williams Comfort Air which seemed to have trouble getting a message to a supervisor that I wanted to discuss the situation with them. I called them 4 times asking to speak with a service supervisor and was always given the same line that they were not available but my business was important. The person on the Williams end of the phone would send an email to all of the supervisors and I would get a definitely get a call the next business day. And they would personally followup on this issue to make sure I got a return call. Every time I called, I got the same speech and now 2.5 weeks later, no calls from anyone in service. Admittedly, I did get a call from someone in sales on 6/8 but she fed me the same line and said she would be checking the recorded calls to make sure I wasn't lying before anyone would call me back.

I am glad to hear you were happy with our technicians. To recap the process; our night call service was called for a no cool issue with your air conditioner. Promptly at 7am the following morning our Customer Service Representative returned your call and scheduled a service appointment quoting the service call fee of $94. You mentioned that you had a free service call coupon with repairs; this waives the service call fee if repairs to the system are made. Otherwise, there is a charge to have a licensed technician with a fully stocked, insured truck drive to your home and diagnose the issue. After the service you called wanting a refund since no service was rendered. I apologize you did not get a return phone call from a supervisor after our Customer Service Representative sent an email. We pride ourselves on customer service and we made a mistake here. This will be discussed amongst management to ensure every client gets a return phone call or email. I would like to clarify a bit more regarding added Freon to a system knowing it is leaking. An air conditioner should never need refrigerant added unless there is a leak in the system. Each technician, after passing the EPA written exam and representing the Clean Air Act, has a legally binding and ethical obligation to not willing discharge CFC refrigerants in to the environment. By “gas-ing” a system that a client fully knows has a substantial leak (i.e. anything requiring more than 20% of the system’s capacity within a one year period); a technician is crossing the legal and ethical line that they pledge not to cross. Should a client chose to challenge a technicians obligation even after a thoughtful and detailed explanation of why we don’t “gas and go” – that person is one we wish not to serve. Who wants to spend $250-$800 annually adding a harmful chemical to a system that they know will leak out? This cost is dwarfed by the absence of comfort and poor operational performance – running a refrigeration system low on charge is like your heart pumping with low blood pressure or no blood at all. The heart (compressor) becomes strained and will (not if) fail in time. Shamefully, these steps taken year after year are what lead our countries overwhelming dependence and use of non renewable energy (i.e. a unit that is not operating per spec uses more energy; the more energy, the higher cost to the client and more electricity that must be produced). I hope this helps in understanding what Williams Comfort Air is bringing to the community and industry – strict no gas-and-go until the problem is resolved and/or leak identified. We called Williams on Monday after a weekend of no air conditioning. We knew that the unit needed to be replaced due to its age and we wanted to have the furnace replaced also. They sent someone to our house within two hours to give us an estimate. Jim Melangton gave us all the information we needed in order to choose the right heating/cooling systems for our house. He did not pressure us in any way but he asked a lot of questions, took many measurements and in the end we feel we chose the right products for our needs. The next day two service men came to our house as promised and spent until 6:30 at night getting both units installed. We were in the middle of a kitchen remodel also but they assured us they could work with this. They explained the new thermostat to me and made sure I was comfortable with everything before they left. They were very professional, cleaned up all the mess and took away the old units. We feel we could not have asked for things to have gone any better. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a heating or cooling need.
Description of Work: We had our furnace and air conditioner replaced with high efficiency models.

We called on the Thursday and Jay came out after work that night to provide an estimate and examine the house and old system. He very quickly and professionally explained our options and gave us his opinion about what we should do. He helped us start the financing immediately and we were approved and ready to roll. The workers came out that Saturday to do the job--we have an old home with a huge AC unit in the ATTIC! They were fast and finished the horrible task of taking out the old unit and replacing it (it was so hot that day!) cheerfully. They showed us how to operate our new control panel and removed all the old equipment. That night, when we flipped it on, we noticed a leak in one of our vents. We called late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, they were back, free of charge, fixing the minor issue. The only reason I even bring up the leak is not to highlight the work--it was super minor--but to highlight their EXCELLENT customer service. I would recommend this company to anyone and we plan on using them for an insulation installation.
Description of Work: We needed a completely new AC system installed. We had a unit outside and a unit in our attic and with an older home, this was NOT an easy task.

I called to set up an appointment to have a salesman come to my home and get a written estimate for a new heat pump system to replace my 16 year old system. The person that answered the phone did not give their name or would not let me speak with the Angie's List rep for this company, Williams Comfort Air. She asked for my name, address, E-mail address and if I lived either in Carmel or Zionsville. When I mentioned I lived in Indianapolis, the conversation went further south. I told her I needed to get an appointment for this or next Saturday; she asked me which evenings I was available during the week; I told her I needed a Saturday app't; she told me that unless my unit was not working, I could only have a company rep come out at their convenience; I tried to explain how exasperated I was getting because she was not listening to me. When I asked to speak with the person assigned to Angie's List, my wife and I heard laughing in the background and we were disconnected. I WILL NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY. THE PERSON REPRESENTING THIS COMPANY WAS INEPT, RUDE UNFAMILIAR WITH THEIR BUSINESS. What kind of company would let a person ruin their integrity, professionalism and good will built upon years of trying to show excellent service to their customers and build respect in their industry?

Air stopped working on Sunday. Called and left message, they returned call pretty quickly. Scheduled service for noon-ish on Monday and I came home from work early. By 2pm with no word I called back; was told a tech was on a Carmel job, had one more, then could get to us. The office called about 330 and said he'd be there in 30 minutes. Keith arrived at 4, he was very neat and professional. Quickly diagnosed a capacitor problem, also quoted a service contract but wasn't pushy about it (we declined), and we were able to use a coupon from our last plumbing service with Metzler to get the service call for free (saved $94). With our approval he quickly replaced the capacitor, took the credit card with a bluetooth device paired with his phone (very cool), left the paperwork and coupons for future work. Although they were 4 hours later than planned the work was good, efficient, professional and fortunately it didn't get too hot today.

I was very happy with the entire process. The installation was done only 3 days after the estimate, and it could have been done as early as the day after the estimate. The job was efficient and very neat.Williams Comfort Air will certainly be getting 100% of my heating & cooling business in the future.
Description of Work: I had a new air handler and heat pump installed at a cost of ~$7000. I had previous quotes from other companies of more than $10,000 for the same work. The installers were outstanding - very professional, knowledgeable and efficient. The job was completed in one day, the old system was properly disposed of, and they did a great job of clean-up.Recently I had them back for air duct cleaning at a cost of ~$670 (I also had a coupon for $150). While doing the work they discovered some mold in the system and recommended installation of a UV light ($795) to eliminate that problem and improve the quality of the air in the home.

Went very well. It took a couple of years for the leak to actually be tracked down, but they took ownership for the leak being a recurring problem. Great way to generate customer loyalty!!
Description of Work: We have used Williams Comfort Air for years. For the last few years one of our AC systems has been low on coolant in the spring. They searched for the leak every year and thought they had found the problem every year. This year, the same system lost most of it's coolant and clearly had a leak. Williams Comfort Air came out, found the leak (probably had been there for a while), replaced the tubing, and added 5 pounds of coolant. Since the repairman thought the leak probably had been a problem for a while, possibly for a couple of years, they did the whole repair for no charge. They get a gold star for standing behind their work and trying to do the right thing for the customer.

I believe WCA grossly overestimated the repairs needed and gave us an incorrect estimate. We filed an unwarranted insurance claim based on statements made by the WCA technician and the full repair estimate provided by WCA. It would appear that WCA was not interested in the relatively small amount they could charge for repairs and instead hoped to convince us to replace the units entirely. While we are aware that the units are old and will need to be replaced sooner than later, we feel misled by WCA regarding the extent of the needed repairs and the need to replace now rather than wait until it was more economically feasible for us. Based on this experience, WCA has lost our business.
Description of Work: We will no longer be using Williams Comfort Air. We had some damage to the wiring outside near the AC unit. The damaged wiring caused some issues with the furnace and AC – neither unit was working. Called Williams Comfort Air as we had a service agreement with them and had worked with them in the past. They came out quickly and the technician got was friendly and got right to work. The furnace was not working at all and the technician began testing components. Nothing seemed to be working. I pointed out the damaged wiring and he advised that was the problem and it must have caused a power surge that took out the major components of the furnace and AC unit. He got back to work on the furnace to pinpoint the damage, replacing the transformer and master safety switch. Just those two components cost $460.00 to repair. The technician advised that most likely, several major components of the AC unit were also blown (he didn’t test anything on the AC unit) and the cost of repairs would be very high and it would not be advisable to do the repairs on our 18 year old equipment as we would be better off spending the money to replace the units. Since we had worked with WCA in the past, I trusted his judgment. We scheduled a replacement estimate for early the following week. In the meantime, we filed a homeowner’s insurance claim believing the damage to the furnace and AC units was so extensive the equipment would need to be replaced. Of course, the insurance company needed full estimates for both repairs and replacement to evaluate the claim. I called WCA to have the technician come back out and do the full repair estimate for the insurance company. The technician came back out to do the full estimate. My understanding was he would at that time fully check the AC unit and test the components to confirm the damage he had suspected on his initial visit. The technician stated several times that if the insurance company had any questions, he would be happy to talk with me or the insurance company. I provided the full estimate to the insurance company. As usual, the insurance company had questions about the repairs listed on the estimate. I provided the technician’s contact number that he provided. The insurance company left a message for the technician and I left two messages. None of the calls were returned. The insurance company recommended that we get a second estimate. We had another company come out and we were surprised to find out most of the damage reported by the WCA technician simply didn’t exist. In fact, there was no damage at all to the AC unit. There was some normal wear and tear and signs of age, but the components were in working order. The new company felt sure that once the damaged wiring was repaired, the AC unit would work with no further repairs. Also, the damage to the furnace was not as extensive as WCA indicated. We have since had the wiring repaired and had an in line fuse installed in the furnace to protect against future damage to the transformer (this option was never mentioned by WCA) and the AC unit is working fine. (Incidentally, WCA estimated the cost of the wiring repair at $219.00. The new company charged $97.00) Also, one of the bedrooms was not being heated and cooled properly. The temperature of that room was always significantly different than the rest of the house (hotter in the summer, colder in the winter). While WCA was here for the furnace repair, we asked about that. The technician advised there were not enough returns installed in the house which was likely causing the problem. WCA gave us an estimate of $250.00 per return to have more installed. The technician never went into the attic to check out the ductwork. When we got the second opinion on the furnace and AC repairs, we asked that company about the temperature issues in that bedroom. This company went up in the attic to check the ductwork. Low and behold, the duct work was broken and very little airflow was making it to that bedroom. The estimate for ductwork repair by the new company was $126.00.

I am disappointed that we did not provide the level of service which we should have. What started out as a good service experience ended badly as a result of our inattentiveness. Our documentation shows that we were called to the home for a “no heat” issue. Upon arrival to the home, our licensed technician diagnosed the SSU Switch was bad on the side of the furnace. Our technician did ask about lightning strikes or power surges as this is protocol when a sudden loss of power happens. After you showed the technician the bare [low voltage] wire on the outdoor unit; he cut the wire, replaced the transformer and the furnace fired right up. Our technician did state on the Summary of Findings that he wasn’t sure yet if this had any effect on the air conditioner. It was too cold to run the air conditioner; however, the technician should have offered to return when the weather warranted cooling. Last year we replaced the A/C’s high voltage disconnect which was another electrical failure plus we added Freon. Based on the cost of repairs to the unit as well as the age of the system, our technician recommended a replacement estimate. Our technician returned upon your request, free of charge, to give more details of repairs versus replacement. We believe the client should have options to make the best decisions for them. Any money spent with us on repairs is applied to a new system should the client decide to replace within 30 days. We are not perfect; we made mistakes here and I apologize. The technician should have offered to return in a cooling period to check the air conditioner; he should have returned the calls made by you and the insurance company. The importance of this has been addressed with the technician and the rest of the staff. Also, the technician should have gone into the attic to look at the duct work with regards to the bedroom that did not get enough air flow. While too few returns can also be an issue, the technician did not make a complete assessment of the problem. This has also been addressed and we will continue our weekly training sessions with these points highlighted. You are a valued client to us. We are a team of great professionals, but we did not provide you the level of service that we expect from our team. Please allow me to have a supervisor return to your home to check your system, duct work and explain any of the findings free of charge. Feel free to contact me directly to schedule this. We hope to once again earn your trust. Tina Festa – Customer Assurance 317-844-3944 ext. 155

Aaron came out to tune-up my furnace and air conditioning unit. He was very polite, knowledgeable, and thorough. A nice experience overall. I also requested a quote for some additional items but found the price on the high end compared to other estimates. I will continue to use Williams Comfort Air.

My mother suffers mental deficiencies and has been taken advantage of by this company. They recommended that an 8 year old furnace be replaced and every year that they have done maintenance they have upsold my mother. They even upsold her on plumbing services needlessly as well. I'm appalled by this type of treatment of a senior. We expect a company of this caliber to protect our seniors and they are taking advantage of them. I will also file a complaint with the Indiana Attorney General for fraudulent practices.
Description of Work: Over the past 4.5 years this company has been doing work for my mother.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
It greatly concerns me that you feel we have in some way taken advantage of your mother or the elderly. We do not run our business that way. The $17,606.00 that is listed covers a 4.5 year period of time and includes a new furnace, air conditioner and water heater in 2008 and a recent duct cleaning and air purifier installation. Our documentation does not include a recommendation to replace the 4-year old furnace. We may have a misunderstanding and I would like to get some information from you. If we should speak with you as the decision-maker, please let me know as we need to put this information in your file to ensure that we speak with you when scheduling maintenance and service as well as providing recommendations. I have left a voice message to please return my call. I will await your call. Thank you, Tina Festa - Customer Assurance

The technician came out and looked at the system took about 10 minutes for him to tell me I need a new A/C. The service call was going to be Free if I got repairs done by them. The technician told me I have a leak somewhere, but it would cost me about $2800 to find where the leak is and since it is an older system he would just replace it. Charged me $94 and left said some one from the Sales department would contact me. Which they did, however since I don't have time to sit through a sales presentation I still do not have any information on how much a system would cost. Since I have been waiting to get an estimate I decided to contact another Heating & A/C company to give me a second opinion, turns out my system is fine, has been charged and is now getting cool.
Description of Work: My air conditioner was not getting cold. I called Williams Comfort out to diagnose the problem.

Thank you for calling us to have one of our technicians diagnose your 25 year old system that was not cooling. Unfortunately, you were unable to meet the technician at the property to get the diagnoses; however, the tenant was available. In the Summary of Findings our technician stated the cost of repairs which included a leak repair and replacing of the evaporator coil. The technician also noted that because of the age and condition of the unit there could be an issue with availability of parts. That is when he recommended replacement and stated further issues with the system are possible. I apologize you did not receive a price for the new system yet. I have spoken with the sales manager and he has emailed that quote to you and left you a voicemail. Please let me know if we need to send this to you again. We are happy you have cooling currently. Having your system charged will provide cool air but it will only be temporary if the leak is not repaired. Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way. We hope to once again earn your trust and I would be happy to have the technician meet you at the property to explain the repairs. Thank you, Tina Festa – Customer Assurance

I had made a decision to use a new company for my HVAC maintanence and found Williams to be rated very high on Angies List I bought their "deal" to clean and check my furnace to determine if they would be my new company. They were both Responsive and Punctual. However, after the two men showed up and went through the "checks" they loaded up their tools and was heading to the truck when I ask "I didn't see you vaccum/clean the furnace". The answer I got was "Oh, we don't do that" or a similar comment. And they left. A day or two later I called Williams and ask their service department what was covered under their "DEAL" and was told it did include cleaning/vaccuming. I then told the story and how dissatified I was regarding the no cleaning. To their credit I was told she would check with her boss and get back to me. The following day I did get the call and they offered to send another serviceman to finish the job. I had already decided they were NOT the new maintanence company I was looking for and and I declined the offer to send another serviceman. If they couldn't handle this routine maintanence I didn't feel that I wanted them around.

Thank you for taking the time to post this report. We apologize that you had an unsatisfactory experience. Our technicians are trained to do a complete cleaning and safety check of your furnace (Tune-Up). Upon arrival, your furnace would not start up. The technician found your flame sensor to be very dirty and he cleaned it. The problem continued. Also, the pressure switch code was showing a fault code. Our technician stated this on the Summary of Findings and quoted some prices to replace these items. A complete tune-up cannot be performed on a system that is not functioning properly or not working at all. I believe there was a misunderstanding when the technicians were bringing their tools to their vehicles and I apologize for that. We appreciate you calling to tell us of the issue. It is very important to hear feedback from clients because we are always learning. We are not perfect but we will make it right for you. We would love to send another technician to your home free of charge to ensure everything was cleaned and maintained properly. We hope to have the opportunity to earn your trust. Please contact me at 317-844-3944 ext. 155 to schedule. Tina Festa – Customer Assurance
