It went well. They were courteous and professional. My only detractor was price and pressure. I felt as though I was being pressured into buying additional services; with the price of those services being too high. That being said, I did feel as though they did excellent job.

I moved into a foreclosed home and wanted everything checked out more thoroughly than an inspection (and tuned up.) I called this company based on the number of reviews and overall "A" rating. While their responsiveness is good -- same day -- and their operators and techs are friendly, they are a huge rip off when it comes to price. You pay for "punctuality" with this company. I was most concerned about the water build up in my plenum, slab, heating ducts (2 of them.) I never got a quote for fixing this nor getting the HVAC ducts rerouted and plenum sealed. I paid $1700 for an "extensive furnace cleaning," heat pump and furnace maintenance check, some little contact board half the size of a modem that I guarantee cost no more than $50, and one other part so irrelevant I can't recall what it was. I was floored by the price but just assumed based my previous experience with HVAC and Plumbers that I would not find any better, had the money, and he was here and seemed knowledgeable. He wanted to charge a $150 trip charge for having to run and grab the part in which I told him no, if he wanted the work he'd get on the phone with his boss and get that waved. Then he said my ducts needed to be cleaned and wanted to charge over $800 for the duct work cleaning. Every other company on Angie's list charges around $300. He stated that they were the only company that uses the Hepa filter/blower whatever it is that they roll in and connect to the furnace, and that the other companies just use a shop vac and that I could do it on my own. this was a flat out lie as I had just had the ducts cleaned in my previous home on a $49 special from a different company, 15 ducts and 1 intake, and they used the same device. In addition, their prices are so high that you are forced to buy their service agreement because if you don't you spend approximately 20% more. So will I use them? Only for whatever free services the "service agreement" gives me. Other than that, this company is a flat out rip off.
Description of Work: I called to have my HVAC system checked out because I saw water condensation in two of my plenum, concrete slab, heating ducts, was getting cold air through those two ducts, and wanted an HVAC cleaning/check up. What I got was an expensive check up with no quote, nor resolution to what I have now learned is a severe water issue preventing two of my ducts from working when it rains, and no quote on fixing the ducts and/or relocating the ducts to the ceiling. I paid $1700 for my system to function exactly as it did prior to them calling, and felt as if they were merely trying to discover easy fixes, charge an arm and a leg for the fixes, and move on.

He was trying to charge me a service fee, but then decided to not do so. When he did come out he acted like he didn't even know what he was doing. He then told me there was nothing he could do. I felt like I was wasting my time.

I apologize if there was a misunderstanding regarding your service call. According to our records, our technician was dispatched to your home for maintenance on your oil furnace. Upon arrival, our technician found the furnace to be a coal converted to oil furance with asbestos duct work. Due to liability reasons, we cannot work on this. We did not charge for the service call. We hope to have the opportunity to once again earn your trust. Tina Festa - Customer Assurance

I requested a quote on Friday and Williams Comfort Air sent out a representative on the following Monday. The rep arrived on time and was very courteous. We had already done some research and had settled on Carrier as our brand of choice for the job. The rep listened to what we had to say and discussed our options with us. I had found a coupon online before the meeting, and the rep freely offered a better deal that they had for the same product. We settled on a product and were able to come to terms on the price and handle the financing at our kitchen table in a matter of minutes after deciding on the product. The rep set up an appointment for the system to be installed the very next day. The rep stated that the installers would be there between 8 am and 10 am. I received a call just before 8 am from the installer who stated they would be arriving in 10-15 minutes. They did so and began to work immediately. The installers were friendly and professional and answered all of my questions. They were very gracious and moved their trucks out of my driveway when I had to leave. They finished up the work quickly and showed my wife how to use the new thermostat and walked her through using the various parts of the system. The basement was left cleaner than before they had started working. As to the system itself, as stated above we settled on the Carrier brand and couldn't be happier. We opted for the Infinity System and I don't believe I will ever use any other type of furnace. Thus far the system is whisper quiet, has run less (even on the unseasonably cool nights we have had this spring) and has consumed FAR less energy than our previous system. The air purification system and humidifier have made a world of difference in the quality of our air since install. We have yet to use the air conditioner, as the temperatures have remained low this spring. I would recommend Willaims Comfort Air to anyone looking to put in a new system without hesitation.

It was a learning experience for me. I will include that I will not pay for a quote in future request.
Description of Work: I requested a quote to install a gas line for a stove. I understood the representative to say the service call would be $79.00 for the quote. I would guess that the materials would have been about $25.00 and perhaps take one hour or less to do the work. I told the representative that I was not interested.

We first met with a representative from the company, who came within a few hours of being called. We had a bit of an emergency, but no real danger if no one could come for a day or two. But they were very responsive. On the first visit, the representative did a complete evaluation of our heating and cooling system, showed us where there were potential problems, and recommended some actions/repairs -- in order of priority. We chose to have most of the work performed. We anticipated a delay in getting some things done due to the company needing to order parts. But, within two days, we were called that the parts were in and they would be out that day to completely clean our system and install. The company said the workers would arrive at about Noon, and be done by 4 PM. They were correct. They were on time, came in and promptly put "covers" on their shoes, despite my telling them they did not need to do that. The men worked quickly and quietly. They explained exactly how the process worked, and what we should expect. All went exactly how they explained it would. The workers were very professional; each gave us their own business card. And when they were done, they completely cleaned up after themselves. Since our house is up for sale, we really need everything to be kept neat and clean, and the workers certainly helped in that regard. Should we need HVAC services again, we would certainly call Williams Comfort Air.
Description of Work: Company cleaned all air ducts and furnace. Blower motor and fan were replaced, coils were cleaned. Representatives who were here to evaluate, clean, and install were very clean, very polite, very professional -- and completely cleaned up after themselves. We were impressed, and would use them again if the need arises.

First things first: when you need something done, A/C, heating, etc., call Williams first. I'd gladly have to wait a day or two in the middle of a blizzard, without heat, just to have Williams stop by. If you have a choice (and WIlliams, please pay attention to this): - ask for Greg -. Greg is one of those professionals who knows his stuff and you know you can trust him, just by the way he carries himself, the questions he asks, and the answers to your questions. He's very intelligent (not a show-off or someone who has to convince you of his skills), his work , highly skilled, friendly, and thorough. And after he finished, I noticed he gave us a new furnace. What? When he was done with the furnace, it looked like he'd just installed it. As we've come to experience with Williams, Greg wasn't there just for furnace PM - he made sure we had answers to any questions we might have, not just for the furnace. He also reviewed a list of items he checked so we'd be informed. Something I've noticed people chat about online is why should a company which makes its money from repairing and replacing hardware have something like PM? On TV, figures have been suggested without PM, your house utilities degrade and you find yourself replacing hardware on much shorter schedule. Also, by staying with one company is they always know what they're going to see because their co-workers will use the same techniques. I can't imagine what it must like to walk into dysfunctional equipment by someone whose wiring looks like a rat's nest (probably working by trial & error) and they're going to have to do a good job with it, but expected to deal with it within a reasonable period of time. Providing service doesn't just mean you wait until something breaks. In this case, a capacitor was going bad, and while it could have been left to go bad, but Greg replaced it - just to ensure we didn't have problems when it did go on the fritz. In short: Thanks, Greg! Keep up the good work. And Williams: thanks for sending Greg!

Poorly. While i see that they have a good rating with lots of users, our experience was that we were being flim-flammed. "Oh, my it will cost over a thousand dollars" was geared to get us to replace our old (yes, very old) furnace. While that was not in doubt, i would have appreciated a realistic and honest assessment. We did get estimates from others, all of whom seemed to agree the repair could be done and for around $500, including the part.
Description of Work: Our furnace conked out over the weekend. I checked Angie's List and this company came up first. Lots of reviews, most good. I should have paid more attention to the unfavorable ones. The technician who arrived took about an hour to determine we had a bad gas valve (the furnace was very old). Contrary to the company's claim the furnace was too hot for the technician to even open the door, he was easily able to remove the door and get access to all the components. We spent a lot of time listening to him tell us about how it would cost $200 to "open th store" to find a replacement and that we would have to pay that whether "the store" had one or not. We also had to listen to him tell us all about his bad back, how young he is, how hard it was going to be to replace the valve if at all and that it would cost near $700. By that time, I was certain we would have to go with a new furnace, so later that same day a WCA estimator came. He was nice enough, but pursued what i call "fuzzy math" in showing me options and coming up with a price that included this and that but not this or that and finally some kind of discount and were were suddenly past $7K. At one point i asked for a copy of the material describing the furnace and air conditioning unit we would want, but he said he didn't have those. What i was left with was a very vague printout from his laptop/printer that he brought with that had a huge listing of things that we WEREN'T going to get with the furnace/AC! It left me wondering what exactly i would get, but when i tried to research Carrier Optimum, i couldn't find any mention on the internet of that model. So i was left in the dark. The technician called again Monday to tell me - wait for it - that they couldn't find a replacement valve but i could go to a universal valve that would cost more than $1000. We never did get an actual quote for the repair, or even a clear statement that a repair would be possible. I cannot understand the company's claim that the "quote" they gave us was "comparable" to others we received, since Williams never told us whether they could get the valve, and their estimate of "over $1,000" was more than twice the quote by others. I told him i'd talk with my "manager" (husband) and let him know. I didn't appreciate the hard sell, the flurry of explanation/non-explanations that seemed to lead us to "be afraid" and that they clearly did not want us to do any independent research. My husband and I were left to conclude that we seemed easy picken's for a weekend furnace failure. Suffice to say, we paid the $74 for a service call and went no further. Oh, and there was a lot of confusiion about that $74, too - with the technician blaming the person (amanda, i think) who took our original call and claiming she gave us the wrong quote of $79 and that really, it was more than that but due to the kindness of the tech, he'd make it $74. Amanda had also told us there would only be a service charge if we declined to do the repair, but as noted we were never told a repair was possible or exactly what it would cost. Since we never learned whether the company could do a repair, we didn't "decline" anything. Despite this fact, we were told we needed to check a box on a form stating we had declined to repair, which would later be "corrected" when the technician found out a price -- which never happened. I was totally confused by all of that, but then much of the discussions we had with him (the tech) were very confusing and included all kinds of personal information that we were not interested in.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
Williams Comfort Air is a company based on trust and customer service. We were called for a “no heat” issue on your 30+ year old furnace that you wanted to see if we could repair before discussing options for replacement. Upon arrival, our technician found that the thermostat was off, there was no call for heat or fan and the heat was running along with the fan. This is very dangerous. The gas valve was stuck open and the fan was running trying to keep the system from overheating. Our technician could not touch the door to the furnace they were so hot. According to the Summary of Findings, our technician quoted a tune-up, maintenance agreement and a replacement gas valve with an “after hours opening fee.” The gas valve price quoted was comparable to your other quotes but we replace the thermocouple along with it. The supply houses are not open on weekends (and evenings). To make certain our clients have heat, they offer an opening fee which goes directly to the person that is on-call opening it for us. This is not something we have a choice in, either the opening fee is paid during an after-hours call or we wait until the next business day to get the part at no extra charge. The other concern for the technician was whether or not the supply house would have a gas valve that would fit this system due to the age. I apologize if this was not conveyed to you in a more efficient manner. The service call fee was quoted incorrectly by our Customer Service Representative and I apologize; however, we honored that and gave you a lower price since we made the mistake. The option to replace the furnace was made because we feel every customer should have all options in front of them. Our sales manager would like to call you to explain our format on pricing the new system. We give options to add to the system to enhance your air quality and efficiency of your furnace. These are options for you to choose. We feel this is to the advantage of the client. We will take all your comments, find the lesson and learn from our mistakes. I am disheartened your experience was not an A+. We would love the opportunity to once again earn your trust. Please call me if you would like to have a supervisor visit you. When the technician did his analysis of the furnace, he began pointing out all the things wrong with it that needed to be replaced/repaired. The list totaled over $3000, but if I purchased a service agreement that day I could get all the repairs done for $2400 (the service offer was only good that day). I became suspicious, as some of the issues he pointed out with the furnace had been there for 16 years and never caused a problem. I hired a 2nd and 3rd opinion, and both said the issues Williams Comfort Air pointed out were the problem were not the root cause. The issue was a clogged furnace filter. Once it was replaced, the furnace began heating the house to the appropriate temperature. Buyer beware.... I was also informed by the 2nd and 3rd opinions that companies such as Williams Comfort Air train their technicians to upsell services so that the customer buys more services than are truly required.
Description of Work: My furnace would not heat the house above 66 degrees, so I called Shelby Heating and Cooling, which has been purchased by Williams Comfort Air to troubleshoot the issue. They performed an analysis of the issue.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
Williams Comfort Air is a company based on trust and customer service. According to our records, we were called for service due to a "no heat" issue on your 16 year old heat pump. Within a couple hours our technician had arrived at the home to diagnose the issue with the unit. Upon arrival, our technician noticed a plugged filter, and a circuit board that was burnt on the back making the furnace shut down. (pictures of these 2 items are on file) Our technician also suggested a full safety inspection, cleaning and tune-up of the furnace, removal of a broken EAC, amongst other suggestions to improve the operation of your heating unit. Prices for replacement of the circuit board and filter were given up front from our standard book pricing. He also gave prices for the other suggestions on the Summary of Findings. Due to the age and condition of the heat pump, our technician recommended replacement of the unit. All work was declined. Williams Comfort Air tries to educate our clients on their HVAC system to help the system run more efficiently and save our client’s money. We stand behind the integrity of our team. We are concerned about the condition of the circuit board and hope you will consider replacement before a "no heat" issues arises again. We would love the opportunity to once again earn your trust. The technician used some sort of silicone that produced a terrible odor that was not present before he sprayed the silicone. When I asked him about it he seemed very dishonest with his response. Before he left he also asked me if i had ever been married and if my ex husband had any guns. He mentioned he was a gun collector and was interested in purchasing some new guns. I called the company after he left and spoke to a receptionist after he left and explained to her the situation. She told me that the comments the technician made did not sound threatening and I shouldn't worry about it, also that she would send another technician out to assess the odor and if it was not due to their installation they would charge me another fee, which seemed a little intimidating to me. Again the odor was not present before he sprayed the silicone gel, and it was particularly strong as he was applying it. He sprayed it in the basement and I could smell it throughout the house through the next day. Another technician came out to the home to address the situation at hand. He mentioned that the original tehcnician wanted to send an apology through him. He said that if the odor did not go away in a few days they would come back to address the situation at that time, but in the meantime to just open the windows and kind of let the home "air out". He also told me to run the blower motor. Update 2/9/13: The odor has not gone away, also the silicone caulk will not last very long. A second technician has come out and verified that silicone was put throughout the furnace, what I think happened was the first service technician put silicone in my furnace and I never asked him to do anything to that effect. If they call back I am going to ask them to replace the damage, it is not fair for me to live in a house that makes me sick from the smell. Update 2/15/13: They have now told all the employees that the only one that will deal with me is the Customer Assurance Representative, Tina Festa. We spoke this past Monday, 2/11/13 , and she told me that she would have technicians come out and replace the silicone with a special type of tape. She also said that she did not want to do business with me anymore and that they were not going to clean my ducts. She said she would refund some of the money I paid, which was $829.00. She said the technicians would come with that refund and also replace the silicone. They replaced the silicone, however the odor is still slightly present, which is why I would like the ducts to be cleaned. I had scheduled them for Wednesday, 2/13/13, but was refused. The technicians did not bring the refund check. I called Tina back and she said I should get it within a couple days, but I'm wondering if she is using a delaying tactic. They have a 5 year warranty on the air purifier that they installed, but if they are refusing to do business, how does that warranty still stand?
Description of Work: They installed an air purification system.

Response from Williams Comfort Air
Williams Comfort Air is a company based on trust and customer service. All Williams Comfort Air employees have an extensive background check before employment can commence. We pride ourselves on professionalism and sincerely apologize for any comments made. According to our records, Williams Comfort Air was called to go to this home because of issue with the current Electronic Air Cleaner [EAC] and to give a duct cleaning estimate. Our technician was dispatched to the home, gave the duct cleaning esitmate and diagnoses of the current EAC. The technician gave an option for a replacement EAC and an option for an Air Purifier. The duct cleaning and Air Purifier were agreed upon. The duct cleaning was scheduled for a different date and the Air Purifier was installed. The next day we were called because of a smell throughout the home from the silicon used to seal the Air Purifier. Williams Comfort Air sent a Field Supervisor, Allen, to the home. At that time our Allen did not detect a smell. According to Allen's Summary of Findings, the client was willing to wait a couple days to see if it goes away. At this time Williams Comfort Air has not had another call. Tina Festa - Customer Assurance

We used the coupon from the Angie's List Magazine and that saved us $61.00, but more important than the savings was that the service was performed by an excellent company. Kenny Rodgers the technician from Williams Comfort Air was professional and efficent at his job. We have a Carrier high efficiency furnace and we were glad to learn that Williams Comfort Air is a certified Carrier dealer.
