It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was pretty good. They are one of the few that actually took part of my furnace apart and inspected the inside. I've had other people come over and they just gave it a once over, but this guy actually took it apart and took some reading and stuff, and gave me a few tips so that was pretty good. There were no extra charges. I like that he took this thing off and was testing things and stuff like that, and telling me what to look for, a few things that other people just come in and look around a little bit, turned in off and on then left. They were knowledgeable and professional. I really liked it. If I'll have problems in the future, I'll call them.
Description of Work: Williams Comfort Air did a furnace tune up and carbon monoxide safety testing.

I never heard from them. I know they were extremely busy, but a week and a half later I still hadn't heard back. Now it's back to sub-zero temps and I called again today (1/22/14). The woman with whom I spoke told me that they didn't call everyone back because they were too busy. What?! I spend over $7,000 and they can't call me back even a week later? Unbelievable. I did have someone come out today and they are going to review the design and see what else needs to be done. I'm just incredibly disappointed that they don't respond to calls with clients they've sold systems to.
Description of Work: I had them install a new heat pump and air handler in August 2013; was told it would exceed the performance of my previous system and cost less to run. The installation went well, loved the work and the price was good. However, when the 'Polar Vortex' hit, my home was 59 degrees when the thermostat was left at 68 degrees all night; the system was running continuously and the temp kept falling. I called them for service the next day (I waited because I knew there were many with no heat at all) to see what was wrong with the new system. I had to leave a message because they were so inundated with calls.

The service tech, Bruce, was very knowledgeable and due to the fact that this was a renovation, the previous owner was a smoker and the house was over 20 years old, some duct work needed to be replaced. I was able to have the technician clean ducts, replace a major portion of duct work and replace an air cleaner on the furnace that was not the correct size. It seems like I received a really good deal. Although I wasn't planning to spend that much, considering the products and service I received, I feel it was money well spent. I also purchased a maintenance program (spoke to Lesley in Customer Service) at a very reasonable price. Very nice, personable and helpful employees. I will definitely use Williams Comfort Air for all my future needs!

My primary issue with this company is that I feel like once they have your money - customer service and punctuality goes out the window. Every job we have had them do has had something wrong with it... The sump pump battery was placed on a shelf which subsequently fell off the shelf and busted all over the basement floor - the second plumber to come and fix it had no idea why the first guy set it up that way; the exterior drain reroute was poorly completed the first time and the plumbing supervisor had to come out and basically redo the whole job. Our new thermostat never seems to work right and every time we schedule regular maintenance its three months before you can get an appointment, they give you a three hour window and then show up 2 hours late! We are currently looking for a new provider...don't let all good reviews fool you...

I think they had an inexperienced technician come out who misdiagnosed our problem and then we got a second opinion, turns out the technician was not well-trained. I think at the end of the day, they refunded us what we paid because I did talk to them directly about it.

I'm very unhappy! Arranged a morning to wait at home, and got a no-show. I won't be pre-paying through Angie's List again!
Description of Work: I scheduled a morning appointment for furnace tune-up, but they did not come or call. I called them and was told I was scheduled for 'sometime today.' Since I pre-paid through Angies list, I'm stuck. Now the next available appt is 4 weeks away!

It went very good. They gave me an opportunity to purchase a yearly maintenance plan and I took it. They told me that the amount I paid which is $49 could be applied to the yearly cost for the maintenance plan and that also got me another visit in the spring which will be included in that amount.

It was literally raining down sewage in my finished basement when I called Williams. I called them first because I am a long term customer on an annual contract for their air/heating division. Williams had been promoting their plumbing services to me for a couple of years. When I called on January 10th to try them out, I was told they could not help me out for at least 5 days, even though it was an emergency. I stressed that I have had air/furnace contact with them for 7 years or so, but it did no good. They had no suggestions, just SORRY we can't help. What made the perception of their reliability even worse is the fact that I found 2 other plumbing companies that could be out in a matter of an hour. Cardinal plumbing did a wonderful job of fixing the problem and minimizing my home damage. I am overall satisfied with them as a heating/AC provider, but the one time I needed Williams in a true emergency they failed miserably.
Description of Work: Had a plumbing emergency, could not come out to resolve for 5 days.

It hard to imagine how a service company can go so wrong in so many ways and through so many hands and departments. My experience with Williams Comfort Air (WCA) was so surreal that at times I felt part of an experiment on customer tolerance - how much poor service, communication and customer handling can be withstood before bailing for another solution. But quickly I would pinch myself, realizing that in fact I was living in reality and dealing with a dysfunctional company that seems so lost in so many ways. We were sold a high-efficiency furnace in late 2009 that I believed would provide many years of worry-free operation while conserving energy. I bought a Carrier in large part because it is an Indiana company that provides local jobs - in effect I was buying local. The unit was installed and we noticed a leak soon after that resulted in significant premature rusting of the unit's metal body. WCA ordered the part but dragged their feed for weeks and weeks before finally coming out to replace the rusted parts. However, they first tried to convince us that replacing the rusted housing wasn't necessary and wouldn't impact the unit's operation. Throughout the 4 years of experience with the unit, the outside temperature sensor is never accurate and is typically off by double-digit degrees. Most recently, during the harsh winter weather and after a power outage, the 4-year old unit stopped working. WCA was not answering their service line so I had to drive to the local office and book service face-to-face. My appointment wasn't acknowledged until 8PM that evening. A service technician finally arrived and after a diagnostic he stated that we had a bad control circuit board and motor. They were going to order parts and call us the the next day. I never received a call and had to call again to complain. The parts had not been ordered. i called a different company, Service Plus in Fishers. A very polite, professional technician came to our house and quickly determined that the problem was a ice-blocked vent on our roof. The technician took a ladder and went up on the icy roof with no fear or hesitation and using his index finger, cleared the blockage. The furnace worked fine thereafter and he indicated that it is a common problem with high-efficiency furnaces. I ask myself how WCA could have been so wrong. Were they looking to milk Carrier for warranty work or was my technician simply incompetent? After all of this, my biggest complaint is not the poor diagnostic - as bad as it was. No, it was the no-call-backs and deer-in-headlights response from the customer service help desk, the dispatcher and the technician. Clueless at all levels. I should add that after an audit of my original purchase in 2009, WCA determined that they double-charged my sales tax and we recently received a check from WCA for over $500 that included interest. Did they catch this themselves or were they busted??? Either way, the whole picture with this company is bad, bad, bad and I would recommend to the world to stay as far away from this company as possible. I would also think twice and do plenty of research before buying a Carrier unit.
Description of Work: Installed a new high-end Carrier AC/Furnace in late 2009. Have been onsite a few times to provide service when the unit has not functioned. Most recently they evaluated the non-functioning furnace after a power outage.

I ended up not using it. When he came here, I had a furnace filter that needs to be replaced. He said that he couldn't do that with that big deal. While he was at my house, I want him to service my whole house humidifier and he said that it wasn't part of the package. To add that, he would have to sign me up for the one year service agreement. I needed that so I signed up for it. Nothing really stood about it. I needed my whole house humidifier service and also to install the whole house furnace filter and to get those additional services, I had to sign up for their 1 year service agreement instead of using the deal I had purchased from Angie's list. The work turned out fine and my interactions with them was fine.

Our heat pump was making strange noises, and I saw this deal. We just bought a house so I wasn't sure if those were normal noises or not for that heat pump, but it sounded weird to me and my fiance. I bought the deal thinking I could schedule them out to look at it and if there was nothing wrong with it, they could do the tune up instead. I called to schedule the tune up but they were booked until March. So I started explaining the situation and they said that what I needed was a service call instead. So I scheduled a service call for the same week. The guy came out and said everything looked fine but the unit was 10+ years old and would probably need replaced soon. After negotiating the costs and what else he could do so we wouldn't be charged a service fee (~$90), he said he would do the tune up. My fiance explained to him that we had already purchased but they hadn't gotten the information from Angie's List yet so they had to charge us, but they would refund us. A couple of weeks had passed and we received the refund. They're a little overpriced if you don't use coupons or any deals, but it's quality work. So you get what you pay for, I suppose.

We have a service contract with them. We had a scheduled tune up at the end of January but moved it up because the whole house humidifier that they sold us wasn't working. The person answering the phone scheduled us for January 6th and moved the tune-up to that day. Had I thought it through, I would have insisted that we schedule it for a none weather event day but since I'm not in the heating business, it didn't dawn on me. Monday came and the weather was bad so I wasn't too surprised no one showed up but a bit surprised that no one bother to contact us. It is an event that was well forecasted. I understand that our issue is a non-emergency situation and we have an extraordinary weather event but I would have expected more from a company that's in the heating and cooling business. I left a message only to call back to find out that my message wasn't received. i called and left another message to be told that my call would be returned within 15 minutes and it's been 6 hours. I won't call anymore or leave any more messages but once my warranty work is expired, I will look for another company that can handle the service. We'll see if they show up on Friday. They had the forethought to send out a note to their customers about how to handle the extreme weather, would have been nice to send a note out to the customers they were going to leave in the lurch that they would handle their issue at a future specified time.
Description of Work: Nothing, they didn't show up. I will use them for the warranty work which is why I stated above that I will use them again but after that I'll look for someone who is more reliable.

Kudo's to Rick from Williams Comfort Air. Our furnace quit working right as we were getting 11 inches of snow and wind chills dropping to 35 below zero. I called four different heating companies on Sunday afternoon right as the snow was ending and the temperature was dropping rapidly. Due to the emergency snow and cold travel advisory, none of the companies were able to send their crews out that night, but all four companies took our phone number and information and said they would put us on their list and call us as soon as they were able to get back on the streets. The next afternoon Williams Comfort Air showed up right after the mayor lifted travel restrictions. He was able to repair our furnace but he had to make a trip across town on extremely icy roads to their warehouse to pick up a part. A big thanks to Rick and to Williams Comfort Air to brave the elements to help us escape the cold.

Very happy with Brian Williams the technician and the time and work done to make sure the installation was done properly and full explanation of system, periodic cleaning of filtration system, and overall service provided.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to repair whole house air cleaner. Service technician provided estimate as well as options for upgraded system. The old system was twelve years old and did not provide adequate cleaning. Agreeded to have upgraded system installed.

It went fine. I'm not really excited to watch him do it, he completed the service and as far as I know it's satisfactory. The technician was very personable and friendly.
Description of Work: I used Williams Comfort Air, it was a cleaning of the furnace and it's like a furnace tune-up.

We had Joe come by for the $44 big deal for the furnace tune-up. Our scheduled appointment ended up being in the middle of a big snowstorm. I figured he'd be late or have to cancel due to the weather but he was right on time. He was very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional -- for example he wore waterproof shoe covers every time he needed to come in the house and did a great job cleaning up where he was working. He went over our service options and I ended up signing up for their annual maintenance contract so we can ensure Joe helps us out with all our heating and cooling needs in the future. It couldn't have gone better; I'm very happy we got the chance to work with Joe and Williams Comfort Air.

I had initially signed up for a fall furnace tune up deal coupon. We were having a deck repair the same week and found out an uninsulated outdoor HVAC duct under the deck. I figured I'd give them a call and have them take a look at the duct as well. In their defense, they did inform me first hand that they will offer a free consultation ONLY IF I choose to opt for a repair with them. They were punctual in calling in to schedule and came on time. Unfortunately, the duct under the deck was partially buried underground and their mechanic did not even offer a repair. So I had to pay $94 for the visit fee. I asked if they could just combine the furnace tune up coupon (which had a free service visit) into todays visit. The operator over the phone stated that they would perform the furnace tune up that day but would still charge me the $94 visit fee since they came for a different reason. This did not make any sense to me. To start off, I was told that visit fee would be waived off ONLY IF I opt for a repair with them. Their agent did not even offer a repair option. I was willing to undergo a repair (even if it costs thousands of dollars - afterall, who wants an exposed uninsulated underground HVAC duct) but they did not offer one. To add insult to the injury, the furnace tune up was hushed up. I own a nest thermostat. They technician was pretty rude and just stated (in a very condescending way) that I should not use some settings on the thermostat. He did not explain what was wrong with the furnace - just that I need a new furnace. How would it sound if you go to your doctors office and they just tell you that you need a knee replacement without even explaining what was wrong with your knee? this is how I felt. I have used them before for minor things but no more. I have found some other local company who are much better and take their time to explain what was wrong with my system.
