Response from T Morgan Construction Inc
In an attempt to address the "F" grade given our company by an Angie's List Member, we would like to provide some facts about this particular project. The Member states that we "failed to follow through on the work." However, she fails to mention that we never even started the work because she refused to sign a Home Remodeling Agreement (a document approved by The Builder's Association of Greater Indianapolis). We began working with the Member in March, 2007. We provided a full design consultation, followed by a set of drawings for the project. We provided the first detailed price estimate in April, followed by a series of price/estimate revisions to accommodate the Member's changing design. These estimates were provided in writing with much detail in May, July, August and again in September. We also provided revised drawings at various points along the way. The homeowner finalized design changes, product selections and specifications by early September at which time we prepared our standard Home Remodeling Agreement. This is a document approved by the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis and contains "standard" home improvement verbage. We submitted the Agreement to the customer and the customer refused to sign the document. We estimate that nearly 100 hours was spent over this 6-month period, serving this customer. The customer refused to pay the Design Consultation fee and refused to pay for drawings that she maintained in her possession. No work was ever started for this customer. It remains our company policy that customers sign-off on all the drawings and specifications prior to the start of the project. It is the only way to create a "benchmark" for all parties involved. Clear, concise, written communication is invaluable in most industries and home remodeling is no exception.
