I spent a lot of money because it was a whole new system. I chose to use them because my friend worked for them and so I trusted them. I was satisfied with the services that they provided me with. They provided a reasonable service and I wasn’t dissatisfied with any part of it.

System was fixed, everything else was a nightmare
Description of Work: My AC system broke and someone came out to diagnose. The part needed to fix had to be ordered and I was assured someone would check on it first thing in the morning and call me by 10am. After 2pm and 90+ degrees in house with small children, I finally called. They apologized for not calling (no excuses just said they forgot) and that my part would be in the next day and that I would recieve a call. Next day arrives and I called that morning to see if I could set up an appointment since the part was coming. They wouldn't set the appointment until the part was there. They again said they would call. I waited until late afternoon and called again. My part was there and they again failed to call me. The service was finally completed late that night, but who knows if I wouldn't of called. During the appointment, my technician said I should sign up for an essential plan and get a discount on the services he was performing and be able to get on the plan. It was late, so he suggested I call the next day. I called the next day and explained this to the person at the office. He said he wasn't sure because he was new, but I would of needed to of signed-up the previous day when the work was performed. I was then transferred to management and the guy basically said sorry for your experience but you're out of luck and somebody gave you wrong information. I will never use them again. I was actually trying to get on their service plan until they treated me so rudely. I also have a new house and they installed the entire system and this is the third part (2 motors and 1 wall panel) that they have replaced. All parts have been under warranty, but I'm not sure how great that is when labor is at least $350 a problem and another $75 just to tell me it isn't working. The labor was never covered under the warranty. 3 times on a new system in a new house seems like a lot for me.

They were great. They were on time and went right to work to fix it. I had given them enough information that the tech pretty much knew what our problem was.
Description of Work: We own a rental that we rent to my daughter and son-in-law. Their a/c was blowing hot air and the temp in the house was rising quickly. I checked my Angies list to see who was rated A. I called the office to explain my situation and was told they could be out the next morning at the latest (they were going to try and work us in that same day - they had many other homeowners in the same situation). The office staff gave me a few things to try to see if it was just a minor problem (like a clogged air filter) that could be fixed without them coming out,which I appreciated. The problem was not something we could fix, so they came out the next morning -right on time- and fixed the problem. They were in and out in about 45 minutes.

Our air conditioning went out on 7/5/2012, one of the hottest days of the summer (105F). I knew that I would have trouble finding a contractor to come out to fix it on short notice but I called AirTron after trying several other companies and being told they would not be able to get out to fix the unit until 7/7/2012 at the earliest. I did not want to wait 2 days if I didn't have to since it was so hot and we were expecting 100+ degree days. I finally called AirTron because they were the original installers of the unit when the house was built in 2006. They had our file on record from the original installation, but I was told that since I was not a current customer they wouldn't be able to make it out until Monday, 7/9, 2 days later than other companies. But as it became clear that I was not willing to accept this date for my appointment, the individual on the line said that if I were to sign up for the yearly service plan they would put me on the priority list and they could come out the next morning. I agreed because I was desperate at this point. My husband was not so willing to participate in a yearly service plan and continued to call companies to find someone who might be willing to come out yet that day, which he finally did.The reason I'm giving AirTron such a low rating is because they were going to be the longest wait of any company, 4 days, and it wasn't until I agreed to a long term contract were they willing to bump us to the priority list. I think this is poor sales tactics and a bad practice. The company that we finally got to come out yet that night (7/5), at 10:00pm, was Thiele Heating and Air. They did not pressure us into a service contract, came out late at night and did not charge a larger service call fee and had the a/c working within 30 minutes. Thiele won lifelong customers from their customer service. AirTron lost customers because of their pressured sales tactics and poor customer service. Luckily I was able to cancel the service contract with AirTron the next day for a full refund.

Just as company from Chicago arrived, our air conditioner went on the fritz. The temperatures were in the 100's the first week in July and when the air-conditioner quick, our house warmed up quickly. I put in a call to Airtron at 9:00 a.m. the next morning and they arrived at my house at 1:00 p.m. The technition was professional, honest, punctual, and well-versed concerning what the problem was. He got to work quickly and within one hour, the unit was humming beautifully and shooting cool air once again into the house. I'm so thankful to have called this company, and I thank Angie's List for helping me figure out who to call.
Description of Work: Our air conditioner wasn't performing well and the exterior unit had frozen up into a huge block of ice. The A/C was running but nothing was coming our of the vents, and the house was heating up at an alarming rate.

I am very unhappy with my recent experience with Airtron. My air conditioner broke on 6/30/12 when the forcast was >90 degree heat for next week. They weren't able to come out to look at the unit until 7/2/12. At that time they told me there was a problem with the paperwork so my warranty wasn't valid. I asked them to have a manager call me about it because we had this same problem 10 months ago and they promised to fix the problem then. I waited until 7/5/12 and hadn't heard from them about the warranty or when the part would be in so that I could have my air conditioner fixed (it was over 90 degrees inside my house during the day). I called again and had to leave another message and wait for a manager to call me back. He told me there was nothing they could do about the warranty. I could either pay for my air conditioner to be fixed (even though it was still supposed to be under warranty) or they could send someone out to sell me a new unit. After buying a forecolosed home that hadn't had the HVAC system serviced in 5 years, I called Airtron based on Angie's List recommendations. Company called to tell me the service man was coming out 30 min prior to arrival within the window of his scheduled time. Steve was extremely knowledgable and very thorough. I had many questions and he was able to answer each one in great detail. I was able to get a reduced price from a Angie's list coupon for this service. I would most definatley call Airtron again in the future for any service needs on my HVAC system.

My blower motor started making a bad sound and wouldn't work. I pretty much knew the motor was bad. I called Airtron since they originally installed the unit in my house when it was built. They said they could come out and look at it, and also told me about the Home Essential plan where the first $500 in repair costs are covered if I sign up for the plan for a year. I did the math and signed up since I knew a blower motor is about $230. Well, they quote me $746 for the motor! The tech said it would have been $900 and something when you add labor. Since the plan only covers up to $500 for the first repair, the difference I'll have to pay is $246, which interestingly is right at the same cost for the motor. So, they screw you on the plan by jacking up the price of the parts - $746 for a $230 motor. My advice - DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE PLAN. I called someone else and he did the whole thing for $450 (including labor) and I don't have to deal with a yearly plan. I canceled the plan the next day after signing up for it - you have 7 days to cancel it. They did refund my money and the people I talked to were pleasant, but the extraordinary prices charged to cover their costs of people who sign up for the plan earn them an F in my overall experience. Just get rid of the dumb plan and run a legitimate business.

Easy to schedule appt. at convenient time (but with 4 hr. appt. window). They called to say technician would arrive within half hour, but it took longer-not too bad though. Orlando was friendly and professional, and seemed to do a very thorough job. He took time to explain each step of what he was doing and was happy to answer questions. We used Angie's List coupon which amounted to a $30 discount, so we were pleased that they still provided a full, thorough maintenance of our system. Technician was here for about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. He did discuss the company's maintenance contract, but it wasn't the high pressure sales job that many of these companies seem to require from their employees. That was a welcome change also.

I called Airtron for an annual air conditioning tune up, since they are the ones that installed the furnace/air conditioner in my home when it was new (the builder used Airtron). The technician was more concerned with selling me the annual maintenance plan. He told me I had a part that was rusted and it likely wouldn't make it through the summer. Ironically, the price of replacement was just shy of what the annual maintenance plan was. As a "favor" he went ahead and looked at my furnace and said a part there would surely be going in the next season as well. Again, ironically, the exact same price to replace as the air conditioner part, which again was just shy of the annual maintenance plan. Each time I had a question, I was handed a brochure that was all set up as a sales aid to get me to buy the annual maintenance package. I felt like I was trying to be sold a used car... when all I wanted was a tune up on my air conditioner.I chose Airtron b/c these reviews said they were reputable, and they were the ones that did my install when the house was new. I will not be calling them again as I felt like they tried to prey on me all for money. Perhaps I just got unlucky with a lousy technician. I was pretty upset when he left.

I called 3 times last night to try and get somebody out to service our AC unit. The motor isn't kicking on. After the 3rd call the guy said he couldn't be out for at least 2 hours, 1 am. Around 1 am he called me and said he couldn't be out for another hour. When I said that wasn't going to work he said they would be able to get someone out today without me needing to call in. I decided I better call in this morning and see what time they would be here. When I called they said they were completely booked up and couldn't get anyone out until Monday. They finally showed up Sun afternoon

The service technician was able to arrive a hour before my scheduled time due to scheduling availability which was wonderful! When the technician arrived he immediately began servicing my air conditioning unit inside and outside of the home. Performing the bi-yearly maintenance that they normally do each year. The Technician was courteous and was able to instruct me on ways that my system might run more efficiently since it is a 10+ year old system. He also suggested that I monitor the systems performance over the next few years and consider replacing the system for a new model should the performance deteriorate.

The diagnostic cost $89. The technician identified the immediate problem as a bad capacitor, which was under the parts warranty. However, he charged me $169 to change it, in addition to the $89 service call. It took him a few seconds to disconnect the three leads to the old capacitor, and a few seconds to reconnect the leads to the new capacitor. Less than a minute, for $162 plus the service call fee. Additionally he said that the TXV valve in our basement was malfunctioning. It was also under the parts warranty. He gave me an estimate of $1,143 for the labor only to replace the TXV valve. I refused, and called an A+ contractor from Angie?s List. The second contractor verified that the TXV valve was bad, honored the parts warranty and charged me $250 to replace it. (And he did not add a service call fee.) It took him about half an hour. The difference between Airtron and the second contractor was $1,143 vs. $250.
Description of Work: Our air conditioner was not cooling the house. It had been installed by Airtron and was still under the parts warranty, so I called them for service.

We have a service contract with them. It is $179 for a 2-year program. They really work with us on trying to fit us in the schedule. They are very prompt. We've lived here for 11 years and have always used them. Their prices are very competitive. We will definitely continue to use them.

The inspector on the home that I was selling recommended that I have the A/C and furnace serviced. I called Airtron to have someone perform the work and they responded promptly. On site, however, the technician determined that my refrigerant was 3.5 pounds low and said that this situation was not repairable because parts were not available for my model unit. According to him, I needed an entirely new AC system for a cost of $3000. In fact, the technician insisted that he would have to note on the receipt that the system was defective and needed to be replaced, which would obviously be quite a problem in the negotiations for the sale of my home. To recharge the system the tech quoted $360. I told him to finish up the cleaning and that I would get a second opinion. He charged me $189 for what amounted to 30 minutes, perhaps less, of work. I subsequently got another company to take a look. That technician said that it was less than 2 pounds low, and that because it had been so long since it had been charged it wasn't likely to fail for years to come. He told me very slow leaks were common on older systems, and if the leak gets worse it could become a false economy to keep charging it, not to mention it is bad for the environment. In addition, when and if it needed to be fixed, the parts were most certainly available to fix it. He said the system could go without issue for perhaps another 8 years, until R-22 refrigerant was completely phased out. The second company charged me $90 for the 2 pounds of refrigerant and were on their way. Airtron did not inform me of my options and risks so that I could make a good decision for both me and my buyer. Instead, they tried to get in between me and my sale so that they could charge me an exorbitant amount for a new system. That is bad business in my book.

Not well. Hard if not impossible to get this company to call you back. Lady I spoke with this morning wasn't friendly. Now I have to move on.
Description of Work: Saturday I called twice for emergency service. Both times I was told someone would call back within a half hour. No one called. Called again Sunday morning and was told I would get a call back soon. Again, no one called. Still with no return call, I called again and was finally told that no one could get out until Tuesday.

They are really good. They are excellent. They come with their feet up and they are very professional. They address you as Mr or Mrs and they would ring the door bell. They have people to call and see if it is okay to come. I like them. They talk to you about what you want done and if you want to split it up or pay it all at once. They ask if you want the job done separately or together and the people who answer the phone are also good. I had excellent service from them and if you ask for a particular person they would send that person. They check and see if you have any troubles and they would let you know in advance. I had some troubles with my air conditioner and they took care of it. The price was pretty good. The quality of work is excellent and he always checks for extra things to make sure everything is running right. They come with their feet covered up and they don’t put anything out of place. I don’t worry about having them in my house and watching over them.
