Quoted $900, to replace two outdoor spigots and fix one minor leak above my water heater. All the work was easily accessible from my unfinished basement. A good plumber could do all three in probably 2 hours and $50 in materials. So basically over $400 per hour for labor. Give me a break. Also, I requested a refund for the "big deal" I purchased from Angie's list and never got one and never heard back from them.
Description of Work: No work was done, prices was outrageously high.

They are punctual, very professional. They do communicate with you in advance about what they are going to do. They did wear the correcting footing to be in the basement area. They also left us some liquid for our sinks in our home.

Techs were friendly and cordial, dressed professionally and vans were professional. Showed up on time with calls from the corporate office from a very perky lady. After job completion, we even received a "Thank you" postcard in the mail which was nice. So, our experience may have just been an off" day for the company. The job was replacing the water line fitting and flex water line to the refrigerator/ice maker. Job did take 3-4 times longer than expected, since exact part could not be located from 3 different suppliers. So, soldering was only real option to complete job. Before the supervisor arrived, one tech began soldering the line without turning off the water shut off in the house, (or draining the line about to be soldered!) which resulted in probably several large buckets of water gushing into hardwood floor in kitchen, and seeped into basement ceiling and carpet while the tech hunted for the shut off. I hesitate to think what might have happened if owner had not been home to show him where the shut off was located. Homeowner used all available towels in house cleaning up. So, glad the issue was fixed, but probably would not have the issues if the second tech/supervisor had done the entire job. Once fitting was complete, the techs tested the line with the refrigerator and confirmed operation of the valve.

It went very quickly, and some recommendations were made. I had a leaky faucet in the bathroom that I did not even know about! So, I was glad to find that out. Also, he noted that my toilet in the 1/2 bath WAS NOT LEAKING, which put my mind at ease. We had a crazy smell from the shower drain which he gave me a solution to. THANK YOU!!

They were on time for the appointment and we were happy with the work they provided. However, we also needed a relief valve added to our water supply to reduce the pressure. This company gave us a very high estimate. We did not have them do this work and found someone else who did it for a lot less money.

I wanted the ice maker connected on my new refrigerator, and an outside faucet changed. The service technician said it would be an additional $339.00 for the ice maker, and $400. for the outside faucet. NO WAY would I recommend this company to any of my friends or family.
Description of Work: The provider did a whole house plumbing inspection. When I scheduled the appointment, I told the receptionist the plumbing work I wanted done. It was never mentioned that there would be additional charges.

Dear [removed member name], We appreciate your feedback on your experience with us. We always want to make sure that our customers receive the best possible experience with us every time. I think there may have been some miscommunication when our technician was at your home. I show that the prices that you were given were the prices BEFORE we apply your Angie’s List Big Deal coupon. (So, for example to run the water line to your new refrigerator to be used for the ice maker, the standard rate is $339.04 then we would take off $200 for the Angie’s List coupon leaving an additional owed of $139.04.) If this is still something that you are interested in doing, just call me at the office at 317-616-0211 and I would be happy to schedule a time to have them come out & take care of this for you. If you are still not interested and feel that a refund is in order then we encourage you to contact Angie’s List to request a refund and we will be happy to cooperate with them if there is anything that they should need from us to facilitate a refund. Sincerely, Rachel Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana

Full disclosure, was using an Angie's List "deal" for this repair. The deal was $89 for $200 worth of services. Upon purchase of the coupon, we were quickly contacted to setup an appointment. This process was easy and prompt. We did receive a call 45-minutes prior to arrival on the promised date and within the time window originally promised. This was also all good, no issues. The gentleman who arrived was polite and got straight to the work. So far all good, until we got to pricing. He quoted us a fixed cost to repair the faucet and a fixed cost for freeing up a minor, slow draining pipe. The quote seemed VERY high and when I questioned the pricing and whether the original coupon was being honored, he got a bit more forceful that the price was accurate and that this is normal pricing for this kind of work. I thought it was odd for him to give a price prior to diving further into the potential amount of work, but with hesitation (and regretfully) agreed to the quote. So, yes, in the end, this is my fault. I knew, knew in my gut that the pricing was off and I should have declined all services and asked for a refund from Angie's List. Upon the gentleman leaving, we discovered that the faucet was malfunctioning in a new way.. the fix had created a new issue. We were forced to have the company come back later in the evening to "repair" it a second time. In the end, the faucet is repaired (after two attempts). $253. Wow. For a simple repair. The slow draining pipe... He spent less than 5 minutes on the task, turned out to be a minor issue. And yet, stuck with his original $240 cost. $240 For something that he admitted ended up being much more simple than typical. Why not adjust your estimate once you realize the scope? I bet if it was far more complicated, the price would have been adjusted! It is very frustrating to spend $300, NOT including the original $89 coupon, for tasks that took less than one hour and were not completed on the first attempt. My only assumption is that they are 'making up' for the cost of the Angie's List coupon and in the end, I either saved nothing or perhaps paid more to make up for the fee they had to pay. This was a disappointing experience.

Dear (Member name removed), We appreciate your feedback on your experience with us as we are always looking for ways to improve. I want to apologize that you did not receive the stellar customer service that we always strive to give all our customers. We definitely would like the opportunity to make sure you have the best experience possible with us. As you know, we stand behind everything that we do. We charge by using a flat rate pricing guide rather than charging by the hour because we have found that in most situations it saves the customer money and doesn’t cause them to pay extra for a job that takes longer than anticipated. However, I do see that in your particular situation the problem with the drain turned out to be more minor than originally expected, so after discussing with our owner, we are prepared to offer you a partial reimbursement on this charge. I will touch base with you this week so that we can finalize this offer, or you can also call the office at 317-616-0211. I look forward to speaking with you. Sincerely, Rachel Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana

The 'plumber' decided that he could not fix my toilet without replacing the entire toilet after disconnecting a functioning toilet. This person had no idea how the inside of the toilet was working and instead of being able to review the configuration, he disconnected everything, shut off the water and never looked back. Over the weekend ,I spent $20 on the needed toilet parts and repaired my own toilet, using all of the parts the 'plumber' disconnected. Instead he told my wife it would be 200 to replace the valve to the kitchen sink, which seemed high, but with a coupon for 100 off, we decided to replace the valve. After installation he decided that the 'standard cost' for replacing the valve was $260 (how the price went up $50 before and after is beyond me) and we were forced to pay that price because the work was complete. Will never call this company again, their main reason for the visit was to try to sell more repairs and get us to purchase their 'advantage plan'.
Description of Work: I called the provider because of an Angies List deal, they were supposed to fix my toilet and look at my sink to provide an estimate for improving water pressure and replacing a shutoff valve. All they did was replace the water valve for $250.

I apologize that you did not receive the stellar customer service that we always strive to give all of our customers. We do use a flat rate pricing guide for all of our services, so I apologize for any miscommunication there may have been over the price. They made an appointment and were given details on what the issue was. When the person showed up he claimed to not be the right person to investigate the problem. Another appointment was made and a second person showed up and again he said he was not the right person and did not have the right tools. I took off of work twice to meet them as they only had appointments during the day and both times were told they could not even investigate the issue. They did show up when they said they would. I ask for a refund but since it was an Angies List deal they claimed they couldn't give a refund.

Dear (removed member name), We appreciate your feedback on your experience with us. I want to apologize that you do not receive the stellar customer service that we always strive to give all of our customers. I have looked back at your account and found that we did, in fact have to come to your home on 2 different occasions. The first time on 6/10 we sent one of our drain specialists based on the information provided as we believed it to be a drain related problem. Unfortunately, he found that there was a different problem caused by low water pressure at the home. Our drain specialist felt that this issue would best be addressed by one of our Sr. Plumbing Technicians. We did our best to accomodate your schedule by sending our Sr. Technician out for a 6pm appointment. According to our records he arrived and spent over an hour thoroughly checking all of the plumbing systems including those in the crawl space. He then recommended a couple of options, one being a hydroscrub of the line, another of which was to have a camera inspection of the line done. Because the cameras are specialized equipment, we have only a few people who are trained to operate them, and they were not available at that particular time. Our records indicate that you chose not to have anything further done at that time. Again I apologize that we were unable to more effectively assist you, and if you feel that a refund would be in order then we encourage you to contact Angie's List to request a refund. We will be happy to cooperate with them if there is anything that they should need from us to facilitate a refund. Sincerely, Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana PS. If you would like to re-engage Mr. Rooter for this, or any other plumbing or drain need, we would be happy to offer you the same $200 credit towards any work. This offer is not able to be combined with any other coupon & would expire on 12/31/2013.

I purchased a Big Deal for home plumbing check-up. He was not very thorough at all he did not look any further than just walking through our home and looking at our plumbing fixtures and making sure they fuctions correctly he did look at water heater however nothing under the house or any other exposed pipes. He did flush on our toilets which did not flush correctly however he didn’t even notice. I feel like he could of done a more thorough inspection not what I was hoping for. The very first words out he told us before even looking at our plumbing he was trying to sell me a contract to come out to our home every year and inspect our plumbing., However we did not even know how our inspection was going to go that day.

The provider was on time and well equipped to do the job. My only concern was the pricing with this company. They use a fee book to cost out the job. The Angie's Deal fee was applied against the book service fee. I also asked how much it would cost to change a faucet in a half bath - the price was quoted at $460. I feel that is a great deal higher than I would pay if I provided a faucet and had a handyman install it. On the plus side, however, you know how much a job will cost and do not have to worry about overtime if they run into complications. So, I would use this service provider for difficult and complicated jobs that you want to use flat fee pricing on. Otherwise, it can be significantly higher than other providers for simple tasks.

Two plumbers showed up - on time even. Very, very gracious people who just got to work and had the toilet installed in under an hour. They were so neat and clean and disposed of packaging and the old toilet and left my house at least as clean as they found it. Couldn't ask for anything more. Couldn't even think of anything else they might have done. Wonderful, capable people.

The gentleman did a great job on our pipe, was quick, professional and friendly. My issue is that we paid $89 for $200 worth of plumbing services and a plumbing checkup and then we still had to pay another $200+ on top of that. The pricing was all auto-generated by computer. He entered a code for the work he'd done and although it took him all of 10 min... we ended up paying WAY beyond what our coupon covered. He was so nice and tried to explain the system to us and how he didn't have any control. He showed us his iPad which had the billing on it to prove he wasn't making the decisions. Clearly we didn't dispute that... I just couldn't believe we'd just paid almost $300 for 10 minutes of work. Without the Angie's List Big Deal price I guess we would have paid another $111. The work we had done was great but ... we never got the "plumbing checkup." Not sure what all that should have entailed but I think he felt so bad about the billing conversation that he forgot about it. Obviously I did, too! It crossed my mind to pursue it later, but I never felt like going back to the whole thing. I couldn't imagine them telling me what else was wrong and how very much they'd charge me to fix it! The guy did say this was all pretty standard and I must not have had a plumber come out lately. That's true so maybe outrageous prices like this are universal. But, really? If their list price for this work was about $400, that's $40/min, or $2,400/hr.

I was happy he was willing to spend time with me talking about all the different plumbing issues I had. Instead of doing one of them for the money I spent, he tried to sell me a water softener system. I do have problems that stem from mineral deposits, but the system he was trying to sell was not what I would choose if I was going to buy a water softener. The one job I really wanted him to do, he didn't want to do because he said he couldn't guarantee it would fix the problem. He then priced rebuilding the insides of one toilet that was not working correctly, but priced it at $225 for parts and labor. My husband bought the parts for less than $15 and put in it in 30 minutes, so $225 value was way overpriced. They charge by the job and not by the hour. I have not called them back to do work to cover the $88 I spent on the Deal because I don't know what to have him do now that won't cost more than the $200 value since he won't fix the shower handle and my husband fixed the toilet. Wasted my money.
Description of Work: Spent about an hour or so looking at the different plumbing issues I had and then tried to sell me a water softener system instead of doing the plumbing I'd originally intended him to do for the money I spent. The other option was for him to fix a toilet for me, but he didn't have the parts with him to do it that day and the price he quoted me sounded too high.

They arrived on time and introduced themselves. One of the workers was still in training so he had a more experienced person with him. Both were professional and polite. They explained to me that the kitchen faucet could not be fixed, but that they could replace it that day. They gave me a price quote, which remained the same at the end of the day. I picked a moderately expensive faucet and they went to the store to get it. Once they returned (they were gone for a reasonable amount of time, as I suspect they stopped for a quick bite to eat as it was lunchtime when they left), they replaced the faucet and completely cleaned up after themselves. They also did the same in the upstairs bathroom, making the repair and cleaning up after themselves.

I prepaid for a drain cleaning because we had a stopped up drain. When Mr. Rotor's employee got to our house he looked at the drain for a few minutes and said that it was now running free and we could save the prepaid drain cleaning for another time. I thought that was very nice and very unexpected. We called them again about six months later to have the same drain line run. They cleared it but the problem came two days later. They came back to the house and ran the line again at no charge. When the drain didn't clear they suggested using a camera to try to see the obstruction. At this point we decided to call a plumbing contractor. He correctly diagnosed a mechanical problem with the layout of the drain system which was then repaired. I thought Mr. Rotor was more than fair with us and really gave us more than we paid for. My only disappointment was the suggestion to use a camera to scope the pipe rather than a physical inspection which revealed the true problem.

unfortunately it went really bad. I called them on a Friday night because of rushing water sounds in my house that I thot could be related to my neighbors repair. They placated me saying, it couldn't be anything they did and did not volunteer to come check..... when water company came out late that night, they found the main line was leaking and sound was reflected in my plumbing somehow. Mr. Rooter did not pleasantly fix the problem believing it was an old waterline anyway, but as water company said it wasn't leaking before! I have a hillside full of ten year ivy growth and they dug up a large portion to get to water main without notifying me and I lost a lot of ivy that might have been able to be saved and replanted if they had notified me. I was home and accidentally found they dug it up and they refused to save any, saying they had work to do and" couldn't care about my _____ ivy.". you would have to check with water company but I believe they also used substandard gravel that might have aggravated the break. even after all was supposedly fixed, the water company found the new line was leaking into the space around the line and altho they were to notify me once fixed, they did not do so. notifying me the exact date, so I could inform water company of when it was repaired so they could adjust my water pill. I think they may not have used the right connector or something in the first place, once again check with water company. perhaps the difference was my neighbor paid for their work and the company lost money fixing the problem they caused me. my feeling is that if they had come out when I first called them, instead of discounting me as probably some crazy old lady (74 yo). " hearing rushing water"..they might have fixed the problem before it totally broke, which was a couple days after the call.

Response from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Indianapolis & Central Indiana
I share Ms. (member name removed)’s concern about the impact on her water service as a result of the work we performed for her neighbor across the street. Our remedy was to completely replace her water line at our expense as I felt this was the only reasonable solution. Please know that during her neighbor’s 6-day project we replaced their entire sewer line by using our trenchless pipe replacement technology which added complexity to the job while preserving their yard, driveway, sidewalk and curb. As part of the neighbor’s complexity we had to excavate a large section of the street (15’ x 15’ x 10’ deep). It was during this process that Ms. (member name removed)’s water line was nicked by our heavy equipment. Ms. (member name removed)’s waterline was nicked because it was accidentally mismarked by 8’ by the utility locate company. Unanticipated situations, like these, arise any time one works with older utilities. Ms. (member name removed)’s situation, unfortunately, was one of those unfortunate occurrences. In the end we took ownership and replaced Ms. (member name removed)’s entire water connection at NO COST to her. The replacement of her 50 year old water line would typically cost a homeowner several thousand dollars. But we made right the wrong occurred through no one’s intentional efforts. The removal of her beautiful Ivy was an unavoidable casualty of our effort to restore her water service and provide a new water line. Thank you, Bob Gallup – Owner & President Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana bob.gallup@mrrooterci.com

I will apologize for the length of this review, but in fairness to Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana I feel it deserves a long review. My wife and I bought our house (built in 1962) in August of 2011. It had been vacant for over a year and that summer was a drought by all standards. Starting around August/September 2012, we had a backup in our basement drains. We had another "plumber" come out and snake the drain, water went away. A few days (maybe a week) later, we had a backup again, so we called the other guy again. He said "this time I did a real good job". Well, we had more backups so we hopped on Angie's List and saw Mr. Rooter had good reviews. We promptly had a guy from Mr. Rooter come out (September/October 2012), he snaked the drain and even sold us on the "hydro clean" which promised to fix all problems or they'd cover it. Well, a few weeks later we had more problems so we called Mr. Rooter back. This time they sent a guy out with a camera who put the camera down the drain. Long story short, we had roots in our drain from almost the point the drain left our house (as a side note, apparently our main drain leaves our house directly beneath our concrete porch on the front of our house). This guy said that if we replaced the main line from the edge of the front porch to the street (the city sewer was on the other side of the street) and had them come out and clean out the part of old clay pipe under our porch once a year we'd be ok. Well it wasn't pleasant, we opted to have 80% of our main line replaced (i.e. they dug up our front yard and replaced the main line from the edge of the porch to the street). A couple months later(November of 2013) we had a back up again. Obviously we called Mr. Rooter again as we had been told we'd be ok for at least a year. Mr. Rooter sent out a tech (Robert) at 10 P.M at night. He promptly put a camera in the exterior clean out of the new sewer line they put in in November and saw the old clay pipe under the porch was totally clogged with roots again. Long story short, he cleaned it out so we could at least use our house for a couple days and said he'd start working up a quote for fix the other 20% of our sewer line that wasn't replaced. While we were displeased that the problem wasn't fixed, a day or two afterwards, Robert along with the Owner/Manager of Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana were out at our house to give us a quote to "fix" the problem. Initially they presented us with a quote that was almost as expensive as the original price we'd paid them to replace the 80% of the line. After speaking with Robert (the lead tech) and Bob (the owner/manager) we arrived at a price that, while still rather pricey given that'd we'd just paid $10K to replace 80% of our line, was within our budget. We went ahead and arranged for them to replace the 20% of remaining "old" line (under our porch and under the street to the city main sewer). They promptly scheduled the work, arranged with our neighbors (whose yard they had to dig up a bit since the main city sewer ran through) to make sure it would work for them and replaced the remaining 20% of the line. While no one wants to have their yard dug up twice, I feel that Mr. Rooter was fair in their price to totally fix the problem. Robert and Bob both worked with us to accommodate our schedule(s) and make sure their work fit into not only our schedule but our neighbors as well. Come to find out, the original guy who told us replacing 80% of our line would fix the problem was no longer with the company (obviously for problems such as we experienced) Robert and Bob went above and beyond to make sure that we totally fixed the problem and that we were satisfied. Originally, we agreed that we would be responsible to have the "mound" leveled and seeded but after we returned from vacation when Mr. Rooter leveled the "mound" we saw that they had not only leveled the "mound" but also seeded and put straw down, thus eliminating the need for us to do it (or hire someone to do it). Again, no one wants to replace their sewer line let alone twice, but I have to give Mr. Rooter (and specifically Robert and Bob) credit for making a bad situation a good as possible. While they may not be the cheapest out there (and I can't say that for sure as we didn't quote them out against other companies) they were very professional and courteous in every aspect of their work. I feel confident that the work they did was good work and that they stand behind their work. While price is obviously important to any homeowner, you had to put a premium on quality work and the people behind the work. I believe that Mr. Rooter will not only do quality work but will also do it right. They received a "B" as an overall grade mainly because we had to have them out twice when (in my mind) they only should have been out once, but overall I think they did a good job and do stand behind their work, strive to put the customer first and admit when they've made a mistake. I would encourage anyone looking at Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana to do a solid cost/benefit analysis when looking at them compared to other plumbers. I think at the end of the day, Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana will come out ahead. While no one wants to spend a small fortune on a home "improvement" that a potential buyer will never consider, if you're looking at buying an "older" home I think that the $$ spent on having someone like Mr. Rooter come out and put a camera down the main sewer line and listen to their recommendations. I say this primarily because, one Bob (the owner/manager) came out, he flat out told me that had he know the entire situation at the initial assessment, he would have passed on the project instead of just partially doing a proper job. I think that statement speaks volumes about how Mr. Rooter operates as a business and as individuals. My main advice to anyone who has the unfortunate problem that we did (which really there is no solution to other than spending a ton of $$ on properly fixing) to seriously consider Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana. While they may or may not be the cheapest, they do stand behind their work and I feel that they're honest (probably to the point that when they screw up they lose money fixing the problem). I have told Bob to pass along my contact information to anyone who would like to speak to a previous customer about their work and service. Long story short, I believe that Mr. Rooter of Central Indiana is as good as a plumber as you can find. I believe that they are not only in business to make money (which let's be honest is any businesses main goal) but also to have satisfied customers,

Response from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Indianapolis & Central Indiana
[member name removed] and his wife were terrific customers. They worked hand in hand with us as we devised a solution to their sewer issue. No one wants to replace their sewer, let alone do it twice. Together we worked hand in hand so that financially their investment was neutral to doing all of it the first time. I appreciate them and the time they took to work with us. This was a half price deal for plumbing for 99.00 dollars for 200 dollars towards plumbing work. They fixed a bathtube fixure replacing the nozzel on the tube. I thought this deal was over priced. My expectation was to use the 200.00 towards other plumbing work but I was only able to get the tub nozzle fixed.
