When I made the appointment I asked for a quote, but they wouldn't give me one. Said the plumber needed to see the project. The appointment was suppose to be between 8 and 10. Received a call after 10 indicating that he was running late and would be there in 15 minutes. Plumber showed up around 11:30. Discussed what I needed done. He went to his truck to write a quote. The total was $300! My coupon was for $200 worth of services (which I paid $100). So I owed an additional $100. I told him seemed high. He said that the projects were a flat rate, not hourly, which made me wonder why I couldn't have received a quote ahead of time if they are flat rates. I thought maybe there was something complicated about the install so I asked him how long it would take to do the job. He said 30-45 minutes. I replied that that equates to $450-600 per hour, again excessive. He reiterated that they don't charge by the hour. I told him I understood that, but that's how I was looking at it. Sure felt like they jacked the price up since I had an Angie's List coupon. I called Lowe's (where I purchased the disposal) and asked how much they would charge to install. They said $125 - quite a bit lower than the $300 I was charged! That night we ran the dishwasher and the water backed up. I called the company and they did send someone out on Saturday. The plumber had forgotten to remove a plug on the disposal which caused the back up. Luckily it did not overflow onto the floor. I did ask again while I had them on the phone how much a typical disposal install costs and she wouldn't give me the rate even though she acknowledged they are flat rates, not hourly. Seemed odd. I'll be very hesitant to use these types of coupons from Angie's List in the future.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It worked out fine. I actually purchased the deal while they were there. I ended up paying $200. I chose them because I know the owner. The technician was very knowledgeable, very friendly, and we had an interesting chat, and the service was as advertised and it was good.

Although, I wasn't quite prepared for the expense at this time, I was impressed with the technician's knowledge of my problem. He arrived early, was courteous and as I said was very knowledgeable. When I am ready to make these repairs, I will definitely call Mr Rooter and request Jeremy for the job!
Description of Work: The technician fixed a minor leak in the kitchen sink. He also inspected and gave an estimate for a major leak from the bathtub and advised that the bathtub actually needed to be replaced.

He showed up at 5pm on a Friday night and was professional and quick with the job. Have had no recurring issues and he left the workspace mostly clean. He was a very young man but did the job right regardless. I would use them again but search for a coupon again because the initial price quoted was relatively expensive.

They did a good job and worked hard for a good three hours. Pricey, like most plumbers, but worth it to have it all done. The bill adds up when you tack other stuff on to be done and include the parts. But that is the price of homeownership.

This has been a dreadful experience. I purchased a "deal" for this service. The first mistake I made was not getting an estimate prior to purchasing the discount coupon. This provider is very expensive. I found someone else to redo the work for half the price and they only had to come to my home once. Regarding the number of visits required to do the job correctly, Mr. Rooter employees have been to my home 3 times (as of today). The first time they said the faucet was defective and they would bill me for the work even though it was not completed (due to the defective faucet). I could buy one off the truck from them but they would bill me the entire cost again to install the second faucet. Incidentally, the faucet wasn't defective. I hired another plumber to install the original faucet and they were half the cost, did a great job and pointed out that the attachment of the drain basket to the original pipes was done incorrectly by Mr. Rooter employees. So, I had Mr. Rooter come out the second time to redo the work on the drain baskets. After that work was completed, the pipes leaked and Mr. Rooter came out for the third (and I hope final) time although they said they could find no leaks. Each time this has taken either vacation days or personal days from my work for a total of 4 days. I would never recommend this service provider. The owner has not made an effort to refund or apologize for all of the rework and poor work provided. No contact has been made by the provider. One positive note is that the front office staff is very friendly.

They replaced the main sewer line from house to city sewer. They were very professional and prompt in starting and completing the repairs. I was particularly impressed by their extraordinary efforts to keep me posted on their actions and to follow up to ensure that everything was done promptly. I received numerous phone calls throughout the process to give me heads-up about the schedule and to verify that the work was being done to my satisfaction. The owner even called me to discuss an issue that arose. They were not inexpensive, but the work also required a lot of heavy equipment, so I can't judge whether or not it was excessive (it was not practical to get multiple estimates). Update: The mound of dirt left behind when the new sewer line was installed did not settle as expected, but Mr. Rooter came back this spring to get rid of the mounds of excess soil. Their followup was excellent.

So far, so good. I am somewhat disappointed in their follow-up, because the tech indicated that he would be notifying their dispatch to make a f/u appointment to check on a couple of other things I had expressed concern about. I have not heard back from Mr. Rooter at all. I liked them, but wish the techs didn't smell like cigarette smoke. Otherwise everything is working very well so far.

Plumber trouble shouted an issue with our downstairs toilet that wasn't flushing properly. Was given a huge surprise with what was needed to be replaced but glad that we did it as the alternative would have been very messy! He took his time to explain what was being done and tried to find cheaper alternatives. Really appreciated the care and professionalism.

VERY DISAPPOINTED in MR ROOTER Plumbing of central indiana I bought the $89 BIG DEAL for $200 of services. They rescheduled & were then late turning up , then wanted to charge $500 to install a dishwasher , ( a simple swap out procedure ) I then asked if they could FIX my toilet flushing problem , and again it was going to be $ 200-300 extra over the $200 deal. ( to replace the whole topilet or do an ACID FLUSH ) I WOULD NOT USE THIS GROUP again ! ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS "UP CHARGE/SELL YOU" & NOT DO $200 OF WORK ! UPDATE : The toilet was finally fixed by EFFICIENT SYSTEMS for $39 , all it needed was a clean of the jets ( not the whole toilet replacent or acid flush. ( if i had taken Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana's deal it would have cost me $400-$500 )

I just submitted a review in response to an email request for a review. I standby the entire review. The cost of this service is not acceptable. I hope that Angie's list would consider identifying those vendors who are charging by service and realizing from what I can see over $200.00 and hour for their service. This is wrong and should be challenged by the public. I have learned a lesson in using Angie's list. I will review my use of an Angie's list special.

I bought the Big Deal for $89 for $200 worth of plumbing services and made an appointment over the phone. I clearly stated what the job was. The technician arrived on time and I showed him the 2 Delta faucets I had purchased to swap out for my existing ones in my kid's bathroom. He went out to his truck for about 10 minutes and came back with a contract for $586--I needed to pay $386 beyond my coupon. I told him the price was ridiculous because it was a simple job and i had just had the same thing done in another bath which took the plumber under an hour for both. I paid that plumber an hourly rate of $100. The technician seemed embarrassed and admitted it would not take long to do the job. He went back to his truck to talk to his boss and came back 10 minutes later offering me a "discount" of $100 off the $386. I told him no thanks and asked him to leave. Half an hour later the owner called me and said he was sorry I was unhappy and blamed the "new technician" for not handling matters correctly. He offered to do the job for $150 over the coupon "value" of $200. I declined. I'm going to hire my regular plumber for this job. I'm irritated at Angie's List for promoting this company as a "Big Deal" and question whether there are ANY services this company can provide for the coupon value. I have used many Big Deals before and have always been happy with the service providers and their work. I will be much more circumspect before purchasing any more Angie's List Big Deals.

Response from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Indianapolis & Central Indiana
[removed member name] We welcome all feedback that can help us improve our processes. In reviewing your review and reflecting upon our conversation we've coached our technician to better follow our process. For example he did not use our price book to illustrate the costs and options to service your plumbing needs. Mr. Rooter Plumbing prides itself on setting an upfront fixed price BEFORE we do any work. In addition our pricing model passes on a 15% discount on any/all additional projects a customer asks us to perform as we save time and fuel and believe this savings should be passed on to our customers. Most plumbing companies do not offer this automatic price savings. Your feedback states that you opted to use your "regular" plumber which is perfectly understandable. And as I read through your feedback it appeared to me that your fundamental concern is how the Big Deal was marketed. Part of your feedback has helped Angie's List and me to revise the message. Going forward it will now say $89 for $200 Voucher towards any plumbing service. Regarding our pricing vs. your local plumber it is important to know that my company hires licensed, bonded and insured plumbers. We pay workers' compensation, healthcare insurance, and income taxes. We also provide the latest tools and safe vehicles. And we invest in our people to further their education. All of this investment costs money and is reflected in our pricing, quality of work and warranties. Last I know that our pricing is very competitive in the Indianapolis marketplace when compared to professional plumbing organizations. Consequently our company believes your overall rating of an F to be highly unfair. Sincerely, Bob Gallup President & Owner

When I bought the deal, I thought more of the work was going to be covered by it. This is a problem with Angie's List deals, that one is not really sure what is covered when buying the deal. An employee (contractor?) of Mr. Rooter came on the agreed-upon day, but not to do the work requested, rather to look at the job and give an estimate. The estimate was for the job I originally wanted done and repairs that cropped up during the inspection that was part of the deal, but, as it turned out, not thorough. We agreed upon a time for the work the next Tuesday, but Jason, another plumber/contractor came - also not ready to do the work, but rather to take a look before going and getting materials. During that time we discovered a faucet that needed replacing that the first plumber had not seen. This all delayed starting the work considerably. However, Jason was personable and we had a good time together and the basement looked fine when he left. Then the problems began. The water was grey and the well pump ran every half hour! I called Mr. Rooter and the next day (Wednesday) Jason was there again, unable to find a leak that would make the pump run so often. He called a QCT and that person said to him it could be a problem with the tank and that would have to be looked at separately - the grey water should clear itself up eventually. (It did, but I drank and cooked with bottled water for 4 days and bathed at my fitness center.) That night, as I lay awake listening to the pump run every 30 minutes, it occurred to me that I had not seen any work done on the pipes to the utility room and powder room, even though the first plumber had inspected those areas upstairs before looking at the water lines in the basement. In the morning I checked the cellar and, sure enough, there were no hanger replacements on the pipes leading to those rooms. I called Mr. Rooter and explained the situation and they sent Jason back - he appeared unannounced (!) in the late afternoon. It turned out to be another 60-90 minutes of work. I felt it needed to be paid for, as it was not in the original (shoddy) estimate, but Jason said, it was his fault for not doing a second inspection himself on Tuesday and he did not feel it would be right to charge more. We compromised by my buying their 5-year service plan, meaning I will be using Mr. Rooter for the near future. Jason was surprised that I had not heard from the QCT and called again. Thursday night I got a call from the gentleman and a tentative date for the following Monday was made. Two gentlemen arrived and one inspected the tank and valves, saying they were in good shape, the leak must be in the line from the well or in the well and pump itself. As that is a multi-thousand dollar project, I will put up with the sound of the pump going on (now less frequently, thank goodness) during the day and night until something more serious happens. In the interim I intend to locate the line and the well myself to save money. I will ask for Jason to come and do the hot water heater flush that is covered by my 5-year plan sometime next month and I do look forward to seeing him again.
