Before he could get started on the spigot he said all the water needed drained from the crawl space and that he would to it for $400! I instead rented a water pump and pumped the water out myself, this cost me a 1 days rental of $60. He repaired the spigot for about $200 which I'm sure was overpriced but I don't know how to do the work on my own so was forced to have them do it. He next quoted me $600 for a new sump pump and installation!!! I declined, went to menards and bought a very high quality sump pump for less than $200 and after 45 minutes of work had the new one installed and working. I saved myself almost $1,000 by renting a water pump and then doing the sump pump on my own, mr rooter is obscenely over priced....
Description of Work: Outdoor water spigot had a crack and was leaking so I called mr rooter. When he came out he found water in crawl space and that my sump pump was no longer working.

Before purchasing the $89.00 deal, I called the company to be sure a sink installation and faucet would be covered. I was assured it was. However, when the installer arrived to go over the project, I was informed this meant the cost of the coupon would go towards the cost, not cover it. These are two different things, and the cost was doubled. Because the person answering the phone was not specific on this when I asked if it was covered, we split the difference. That seemed fair, but I gave a C on price because what I was told on the phone was not what was presented at the time. Lesson learned: COVERED does not mean the price is covered, only that the coupon will apply towards the job. I do not recall exactly how much I ended up paying after the coupon. I also received an estimate for installing new bathroom faucets I had purchased. The price was high, so I did it myself. I had to call the company back because the hot and cold were mixed up on the faucet. This was taken care of quickly and professionally.
Description of Work: A new kitchen sink and faucet was installed. I had already purchased these.

Technician gave me an estimate on sump water discharge pipe line. He was prompt on time for the job and looked through how long the pipe line will be but he needed some other instruments to find out where the storm drain is and to give me exact amount but gave me what I needed.

I had purchased the Big Deal under the mistaken assumption that it would cover the hourly rate necessary to replace the kitchen faucet and remove the old water filter. The technician was very nice and explained the billing method that Mr. Rooter uses. It's not really an hourly rate, but a list of pre-set pricing for various services. As the existing faucet and water filter were quite old, there was a lot of build-up making the removal quite difficult. Also the shut-off valves were old and not particular functional so the job became bigger and more difficult than originally planned--as is always the case in an old house! The work was well done, although in his haste to finish (it took several hours and I had an appointment to get to so not really his fault on trying to hurry to finish) he switched the hot and cold lines. That was easily remedied so I wasn't too upset about that. He was forced to cut the existing lines with a reciprocating saw, the vibration from which loosened the garbage disposal, which I discovered the next day when I filled the basin and it ran out through the loosened disposal. Again, easily tightened so not a disaster. Again, the technician was very nice and explained what he was doing and was trying to work with my schedule. He provided me with helpful information about other issues in this old house and as the costs of the work being done mounted, he suggested the Mr. Rooter advantage plan, which provided me a discount. The plan lasts for either 3 or 5 years (at a cost of course) and purports to provide you with priority scheduling and a discount on all services for the duration of the plan. I have yet to use the service so I cannot speak to its efficacy. I will say that perhaps I did not read the fine print thoroughly enough when purchasing the Big Deal but I felt that it was a bit deceptive or not as clearly descriptive of pricing for services as it could have been. I also thought that the price for services was a bit high. This allows the technician to "upsell" by suggesting the Advantage Plan as a way to get a discount on services being done at that time. In my case there was more work than anticipated which was by no means the fault of the technician. He was a good guy and explained the process well and also gave me helpful tips for other issues in the house. I understand that he must follow the corporate guidelines and that these companies do not operate like the "local plumber" many of us are used to and I don't blame him a bit. The work performed was done properly (except for the minor issues I mention above that were likely due to my need to leave thereby not allowing him to double check his work before having to leave).
Description of Work: Installed new kitchen faucet, removed old one, installed new water stops for both hot and cold on lines to kitchen faucet. Removed old water filter system. Did whole house walk-through, inspection.

JR was polite, helpful, and efficient, and working with Beth to get the appointment scheduled was a pleasant experience. Nice people, all around. And I'm sure the work was excellent. JR pulled a big old ball of roots out of the line -- not surprising, given the number of trees on that side of the house.

On top of the Big Deal, I think I ended up spending another $300. I thought that they were professional. They explained everything that they were going to do. They gave me an accurate quote on what it was going to cost to get stuff done. They had to leave and go buy us a new faucet. I picked out what I wanted before they left, and that is what they came back with.

They showed up. I don't think he fully understood what he was doing and I called somebody else out to check the work that he did do just because it's gas and I'm a little bit concern in result. I think they might have needed a regulator, I actually showed him kind of a way to hook it up. He didn't seem really knowledgeable about it. He could do the manual but I think in knowing the total concept behind it, I think he was a little lacking in his knowledge with the gas.

My biggest concerns from this experience: 1. The lady on the phone said she could not quote a price but the technician told me that there was a ?standard fee of $289.00? for a drain clearing. If there is a standard price for a service, why did she not answer my question? 2. If you are going to charge ?by the job,? then don?t charge me if the job isn?t done. 3. I opted for a professional because I wanted the problem fixed easily and quickly. I trusted the wrong company and ended up spending the rest of my day fixing the problem I hired them to fix. 4. I felt very uncomfortable with a service technician standing in my home demanding payment and saying that he ?had to collect something.? 5. The customer service from the office staff was terrible, 3 phone calls and all I got was empty promises. They had the chance to make this right, I gave them every opportunity and they repeatedly dropped the ball. Here is a full description of my interactions with this company: 1-24-14 (Evening): I called the call center to set up an appointment. The person I spoke with was prompt and courteous, I explained to her my issue was that my bathtub that would not drain. She setup the appointment for the following afternoon. I asked what the charge would be for the service and the person on the phone said that there were no standard prices but the technician would give me a price before he started working. 1-25-14 (Morning): I got a call that a service person was available earlier than expected and they wanted to know if they could arrive early to get started. I accepted this offer and was excited that the work would be completed earlier than expected. 1-25-14 (Early Afternoon): The technician arrived and I showed him where the problem bathtub was located. I then took him to the basement to show him the piping coming from the tub to the main line. I noted at this time the existence of a clean-out in the tub line that may be used to clear the clog. The cap to open the clean out was very tight when I attempted to open it prior to the technician?s arrival, but I figured the technician would have a wider range of tools available to open the cap. After looking at the piping and the tub, the technician told me that he would not charge me the ?Standard $289.00? but would only charge me $200.00 because there was not a lot of pipe between the tub and the main line. He also told me that the trap going to the tub was longer that than it needed to be and that he could remove the clog and then replace the trap for an additional fee. I declined the additional work and just told him to remove the clog. I clarified the estimate with him before he began to work; I asked ?Is it just the $200.00? No additional service fees or anything?? and he replied that indeed it was only the $200, and there were not any additional fees. He also did not mention anything about collecting payment if he was not able to remove the clog, nor did he mention that he thought the design of the trap would be any kind of issue. He began working from the tub and was not able to reach the clog. He then went from the kitchen sink drain, but was still not able to reach the clog. At this point he informed me that the plumbing in the tub was improperly installed and that was the reason that he could not clear the clog. I asked about him using the pre-existing clean out that was in the drain line from the tub. He said that his machine could not snake the clean out because the pipe was too far away from the ground. At this point he began to pack up his tools while I still had a bathtub full of water. He said that since he did not clear the drain that he would only charge me $100.00 instead of $200. I told him that was not right, if they charge by the job and the job was not done, then I don?t feel comfortable paying that amount. He insisted that since he had spent time at my house that he ?had to collect something.? I told him I would pay $50.00 for his time, but he insisted on the $100.00. I was so angry at this point that I signed the paper to get him out of my house. I figured I would discuss this incident with his supervisor when I was more level headed and I turned my attention to completing the job that he left undone. I spent the rest of the day going to hardware store, buying a snake, opening the clean-out, and clearing the clog myself. I didn?t want to waste my whole day on a clogged drain, which is precisely why I call a professional in the first place. The next day was Sunday, and I was out of town on Monday. So I called the office on Tuesday and talked to Beth the office manager. I told her about my experience, she said that there was no one there at the time for me to speak with, but she assured me that someone would call me back promptly. No one did so I called again on Wednesday; she was apologetic and assured me even more emphatically that someone would call me to address my concerns. Still no one did, so I called on Thursday. They must have recognized my number because my call rang to voicemail. I called back again a moment later and someone answered and hung up immediately. I called back a third time and talked to Beth again who assured me that some one would be calling me to address the issues, I?m still waiting 2 months later. I would really like my $100 back. 6 weeks later they had the nerve to send me a thank you post card about how they appreciated me trusting them with my house. This really sent me over the edge.

My water heater was leaking onto carpet. I searched Angie's List Big Deals and purchased a water heater with installation, and disposal of old unit. But I failed to notice it was a gas water heater. Both Mr. Rooter and Angie's List were cooperative and helpful in canceling that and purchasing the deal for an electric water heater. I made the appointment on Saturday for Monday morn 8-10 a.m.; apparently it was an answering service. On Monday morning the Mr. Rooter office did not have the appt listed. But they managed to work me in. Jim Weingart was the Service Professional who solved all my problems! After the original appt was made, a leak developed under my kitchen sink. Mr. Weingart returned on Tuesday to install a new faucet that I purchased. He returned again on Wednesday to correct a temperature problem with the water heater. He was personable and professional. The office was very good about keeping me updated about my appointments. I will recommend and use Mr. Rooter again!

I had called another company to get an estimate for our broken hot water heater. The estimate they provided was way too high. I called Wednesday evening and scheduled someone to come out Thursday evening between 5-7. Beth was really nice when I schedule the appointment. On Thursday evening, about 6:30, I decided to call when no one had shown up or called. I spoke with Christine who stated the schedule showed us for an estimate on Friday at 3pm. This was never discussed as I specifically asked if they came on Thursday night, that they would be able to install on Friday. Christine was really apologetic and told me that if they had someone come out between 11-1 they would be able to get the heater installed that day. She also offered to email me coupons, and said that if anything came open earlier Friday, we would be first on the list. One of the main reasons I contacted them was an Angie's list deal for a water heater install for $849. My concern was there would be a bunch of additional charges. In speaking with Christine, she stated she didn't think there would be, but was honest and said she wasn't familiar with the deal so didn't know for sure. Friday morning, Beth called about 8:45am and said they could have someone there in about half hour. The technician, Jeremy, was there within a half hour, and assessed the hot water heater as broken. He had to go get some additional parts, but got the new water heater in with no problems. Jeremy was very nice and answered all our questions. They honored the deal, and there was no additional charges. When we have other plumbing needs, we will be using Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central Indiana. PS the reason for the "B" on punctuality is due to the "mix up" with the initial appointment.

The provider was very professional during the initial visit, and worked on the quote for the three things we wanted done. The initial price was extremely high (in excess of $800, not including the $111 of services included in the deal). The service tech spoke to the owner and we were able to work out better pricing, which was still a bit high ($500)(note that this was 2 service calls). I was satisfied at the end of the day with the work and pricing. However, after the work was completed, we noticed some damage done to a wall. I contacted the service tech directly to give him heads up that I would need to make a claim. The service tech went off the deep end and ended up hanging up on me. I have no idea from where that conduct originated. I called and spoke with the owner, and he came out to the house to examine the damage. He agreed to cover it and we worked together to do it in the most efficient way. The owner was extremely professional and made the situation right. He saved the relationship and I would recommend his business to a friend.

We are moving into a townhome. The water spigot in the lower level garage was damaged. I was concerned about flooding into the adjacent room so we scheduled Roto Rooter to arrive for service between 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday. Received a call at 11 am that the plumber would arrive by 12 pm. He actually showed up at 2 pm. Water was turned off for the pipes to drain at 2:30 pm. Plumber left at 3 pm as he did not have the PART necessary for repair. Arrived back at 4pm. There was a trickle of water still coming from the spigot even though the water in the upper two floors had fully drained. By 5 pm, he had me going door-to-door in the complex to determine who was the building management as he said water was coming into the plumbing in the lower level directly from the main plumbing at the street. At 5:30 pm, he called a co-worker who talked him through several things on the phone and finally realized he had not fully turned off the water to the spigot. At 6:30 pm on Saturday night, we were informed that repairs could not be completed as the needed TOOL was not on the truck. An appointment was set for 9 am on Sunday morning to finish the repair. At 9:20 am, we called to find out why the plumber had not arrived and were told that he had over-slept but would be there at 10 am. At 10:30 am, I called again and was told personally by the plumber that he would arrive soon. The plumber did not actually arrive until 11:09am. As he got out of the truck,he said "good morning" but never apologized for being late. At 1:30 pm, a second plumber arrived. In a few minutes, he diagnosed that the wrong kind of flux was being used. By 2:15 pm, repairs were finished....unbelievable!

when I got their bill, it floored me. The $89 for $200 of work was a gimmick. They won't walk in your front door for $200. I thought for certain I could get 2 toilets set in place for $200 (for the $89 offered on Angie's list) but they wanted another couple hundred dollars to do this work. Would never recommend them to anyone.

The price was a bit higher than I expected, but the work was excellent.
