 + -1 moreIt ended up being a little more expensive than I thought it would be. They have always been very good. If they say they are going to be here at a certain time they are. I appreciate that they wear booties on their shoes when they come in so they don't get my floors dirty.

 + -1 moreI called R.V. Hallam Plumbing Co., Inc. to see if they could fix a leak in the slab. The sent Mark, who looked at the leak and said he could fix it. He gave me a written estimate of the work to be done and estimated the job at 4 hours maximum. He didn't think he needed to call in the leak detectors (a separate company that looks for water pipe leaks in the slab) as he could see the leak. This was Wednesday. Due to the recent flooding in the area, Mark said it would be next Tuesday before he could do the work. I told him to come. He came, jackhammered up a spot to see and fix the leak, and was done that afternoon. He filled the hole with concrete and cleaned up his mess. I recommend Hallam and Mark for an award on fixing my problem.
Description of Work: A water pipe in the laundry room wall leaked water onto the dining room floor. Our house is on a concrete slab and the leak was at or below the slab level top surface.

 + -1 moreThey were pretty nice and friendly. They were trying to help me out with the cheapest way to fix the problem. They were clean they cleaned up their mess after they were done. I don't like to have work men when I'm by myself but they did not make me feel uncomfortable with them in my home. I would hire them again in the future.
Description of Work: I had a leaking toilet. They were trying to find the least expensive way to fix the problem. They came out three times to try to fix the problem.

 + -1 moreWe scheduled service between 2pm and 4pm on a Friday. At 4pm, I called the plumber to find out what time he was coming. He mentioned that his current job would not allow him to get to our house in time, so we would have to reschedule our job. He offered to come later in the evening, but his offer was VERY lukewarm and insincere. Certainly, there are things can happen that are out of our control; I can understand that. However, why should I have to be the one to make the phone call(s) to find out what the status is. Further, this firm has more than one plumber...couldn't they have sent a different plumber? Overall, extremely disappointed in the way this was handled. Allow me to finish the story?.there is a happy ending. Since I couldn't find another plumber to come out that weekend, I ended up allowing R.V. Hallam to keep the follow-up appointment and install our gas line. The work was fine. Here is the good part. On June 26, 2008, I received a phone call from Mr. Hallam himself. He stated that he acknowledged the poor service, he was sorry for the way it was handled, and he refunded me the entire amount, $754. While I certainly appreciate the money, I was more impressed that he acknowledged the problem and gave a sincere apology. In this day and age when we are often treated like a number, Mr. Hallam treated me like a friend. Thank you Mr. Hallam.
Description of Work: Install a new gas line for a gas stove. Cost was $754, but I received a refund check for $754.

 + -1 moreI think they are an honest and thorough company. They cooperate with the customer well. They are very polite and they clean up well. As far as I can tell, they have done a very good job. They are also careful about letting you know what work is involved and if there is a chance of anything going wrong and in my experience they stick right with their estimate.
Description of Work: This was a fairly big job. They replaced the plumbing in an upstairs bathroom. All the pipes were changed and they replaced the lavatory, shower and toilet. We had a pressure regulator installed as well since our water pressure was a little high. They also installed another shut off valve.

 + -1 moreI was stunned by the fees. I knew it would be $79 for the technician to show, but didn't expect $129 for him to press the same buttons I'd pressed to attempt to light the water heater's pilot light. 60 seconds of time, $7740/hour. At least I got $30 off with the Angie's List coupon. Dave then did spend time looking up prices for repair and replacement of the water heater, but I will pay again for the dispatch fee when that happens. I will have another company look at the water heater.
Description of Work: Dave unsuccessfully attempted to light water heater. This was 60 seconds of his time pressing the same buttons that we did before we called Metzler telling them our pilot light wouldn't light.

 + -1 moreThey are extremely responsive. The only extra charge was a premium for the service call being out of regular hours and that was due to the emergency call. Everything else was standard rate for this repair. This is just one example, out of several. We've used them many times. They are reasonably priced and I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They came out on a Sunday night at 10 o'clock and replaced a water heater because ours was leaking all over our garage.

drain cleaning
 + -1 moreI asked for a roto rooter to be brought to my house to unplug a downspout drain after 3pm on Tues. At about 3:30 a man called and said that it is very difficult to unplug that type of drain. I explained that I have had this done before and it shouldn't take more than 15 min. When the plumber arrived he said he would figure the price. After about 5 min. he said it would cost $275.00. I declined the service since I knew it wouldn't take more than a half an hour to complete the job. I would have been more than happy to work on a time and materials basis but this company would not work that way. I got the feeling the plumber was trying to overcharge me for a very simple job and I will never use this company again.
Description of Work: Gave estimate to unplug clogged drain.

 + -1 moreI am a widowed senior citizen, on a fixed, small income, and I just wanted to weep. I did look through the Angie's list magazine & found another coupon from Williams that the woman said they would accept, and the coupon was for I believe $74.00. And there was an understandable $5. charge for gas. The plumber came out looked, said oh, its just a bolt that needs tightening, so he tightened the bolt and gave me a bill for $80.00. It does seem a bit extreme, $80.00 for less than 2 minutes--I timed him.. but, I paid it & said thank you. This past Monday, where I work part-time (so I can pay unexpected bills like this), the plumber came into the store with his wife and told me after some years with Metzler, he and the other older persons employed by Metzler had been let go, and that there is not a charge against the company for bias against age. At any rate, all this is very distressing to me. I considered Metzler reliable, small business, personal interest in doing a good job---but, I doubt very seriously that I would ever call them again--tho it seems the $80.00 tightening of the bolt has been successful. This makes me sad and I believe as Metzler before the"merge" they did care. Update: I would like to confirm that Mr. Larry Metzler did call regarding my opinion/feelings. Also, since my water bill was MORE the following month, he said he himself would check the work done (a bolt tightened) to see it was done properly, I have not seen him. I work part time so maybe he came while I was working. I would like him to know I did respond by letting "Angie's list" know he had responded and that he assured me older persons were not being let go just because of age.
Description of Work: I called Metzler Plumbing Co. when I had a problem with the water meter outside. I have used them in the past from recommendation of Angie's List & have always been pleased. This time, I was told they have merged with Williams Comfort Air, and have a new policy of charging $84.00 to check and make sure the problem reported is really the problem. I asked if that would be applied to the cost of the service & was told no that it was just an additional cost.

 + -1 moreHad a leaky water heater on a Saturday and have used another plumber in the past but they no longer provide 24-hour emergency services, even to existing customers. So we looked for a new quality plumber who provides 24-hour emergency services. Contacted RV Hallum on Monday and had a new water heater installed that same day. Price very competitive to other quotes. They also offer a "1 year service plan" for a nominal fee which also gives you discounts for parts and priority on service calls. No travel charges charged!
Description of Work: We had a great response from RV Hallam Plumbing. The customer service, Debbie, was great! The installer, Mike was very courteous and installed water heater as planned.

Description of Work: Our water heater started leaking in January, 2007. A phone call to Metzler Plumbing sent a plumber to our house to asses the situation. We had determined after the phone call in January 2007, we needed a new water heater. The plumber disconnected our old water heater took it out and installed a new one. The gentleman was very professional and courteous. He answered any questions we had and cleaned up after he had finished installing the new water heater.

Description of Work: They came in and installed a tub, and got plumbing working with 2 new toilets. They took care of something else that I've had all kinds of people look at. They solved the problem by removing part of the wall, and finding that another line had been added for water outside (to make a fixture) and it was keeping the hot water from working properly.

 + -1 moreThe plumber arrived on the Monday when he was supposed to but couldn't do the job since he was misinformed - thinking he just had to replace a faucet instead of actually plumbing in a new one. He came back on the Wednesday and did the job. He also messed with my toilet to try and stop it from sticking and tested my other outside faucet to see whether it was softened water - there was no additional charge.
Description of Work: I needed a new water line installed running from the basement to the outside and a faucet on an outside wall of my house added.
