The entire visit took less than an hour. If I didn't have so many questions, it would have taken less time. The service technician was very patient and understanding, since my water heater may need to be replaced soon. He was punctual and respected my space and property. I'm happy to say the visit was relatively uneventful. I would definitely call them back for future service or price quotes.
Description of Work: The service technician assessed my water heater's condition, performed the flush, informed me of the approximate lifespan of my water heater, and finally wrote-up an estimate for a new water heater, as well as water-softening/water-filtration options.

I am very disappointed because I so much wanted to give a good report, but I cannot. I had a totally clogged main line. I was caught by Mr. Plumber?s ?$93 or free? flypaper. Since others charge $200 or more, I figured I had nothing to lose. I called for an appointment on a Tuesday, and was told there would be someone out yet that day. Tues - Wed - Thurs went by without an arrival or call. I finally called back on Friday, only to discover that my call-in was logged, but I never made it on the schedule. I was then put on the schedule for Saturday. I had a very nice gentleman arrive and proceeded to attack the main line. Very good technician answered all my questions. Many roots were pulled up, but the main line could not be opened. No charge per the ad. Ok, I?m fine with that, and I was pleased with the service at that point. A camera inspection was scheduled. Another very nice gentleman arrived with the camera. He formed me that the line was so full of sludge (you know what ?sludge? is a nice word for, don?t you) that he could not even see what the issue was. Another very nice gentleman again attacked the line with a snake (same visit), but to no avail. To that point all was fine with me, but this is where it went bad. I was told I had two ?hard? spots (points of clogs), one near the driveway, and one near the street/sidewalk. They recommended digging two holes at the ?hard? spots, letting the sludge drain out, and then camera inspect to see what the problem truly was. To replace one pipe length was $3,000, and if it got to below the driveway or below the sidewalk, it would be near $8,000 ? and if they had to go into the street, it would be far north of $8000. But, because they could not camera the line, they were just guessing. They wanted to go on an expensive ?exploratory? digging expedition. I asked for a quote to be emailed, and never received it, nor a follow-up call to see if I had received it. So I called in another company. This is important because it lead me to what Mr. Plumber did wrong. I won?t mention the name because I don?t want to look like a shill for that other company. I had a very knowledgeable technician tell me flat out that if there was so much sludge in the line, I needed a sewer jetter service (sewer jetter = quarter car wash wand x1000). Now, that was $650 - quite a chunk. I Ok?ed that service and the jetter cleared the line and all the sludge. The second company then was able to perform a camera inspection - no sludge. To be fair, they did discover many roots, which was the ?root? of the problem (no pun intended). But they also tracked the main line only to find that it did not go under the sidewalk nor toward the street. At most I needed $1800 for about 8 to 12 foot of pipe, my yard to the city sewer that ran between the properties, not along the street. The second company was able to clear most of the roots with the jetter. Sure, my pipe sill has issues, broken seams and root intrusion, but the jetting bought me a year to save $1800 and plan for the repair next fall. I do not believe Mr. Plummer performed the proper steps to really find the problem. I don?t even remember if they recommended jetting, but that was surely that way to go. They seemed anxious to dig. I now believe that if the pipes are full of sludge, and you can?t get a good look with a camera, jet the pipes. Even if roots or other pipe problems remain, they will be clean and open to a camera inspection that will reveal the whole story. If I had gone with Mr. Plumber, I would have a big hole where they never would have found a pipe, because it didn?t go in that direction. In conclusion, I gave an ?F?, not to throw ?sludge? as a punishment, but because ?F? means fail. They: 1) Failed to put me on the schedule after my initial call, 2) failed to tell me they could not possible diagnose the problem without clearing the line (jetting), 3) failed to provide an economical approach, rather, suggesting I dig holes and go exploring, 4) failed to track the correct location of the pipes, which would have resulted in digging in the wrong place, 5) failed to quote the job as requested, and 6) failed to follow-up to see if I got the quote and if I wanted the work done. I think they wrote me off, as I wasn?t buying their dig-now explore-later approach.

Overall, I felt "jerked around". Do not feel company is honest and up-front as they can be. Unfortunate.
Description of Work: I did not use them for my plumbing needs. When I called they agreed to help with my issue, but would not be available for a couple days due to the flooding. (I went with another company that came out the same day.) The representative advised me of the service call fee up front. Towards the end of the phone call, as I told the rep I was going to call around he then told me that if I went to their website, I could get a coupon for the service call fee to be waived.

They came out to our home on time and did an inspection of the problem we called them on. The repairman explained to my wife that he did not have all of the parts needed to perform the repair on our broken commode due to the age of the commode. He recommended replacing the commode and presented several choices to my wife by price range. She selected the commode that she wanted and had him also replace anoother commode that was of the same age. He left to pick up the commodes, returned shortly thereafter and did a great job of installing the commodes leaving the no mess or collateral damage.
Description of Work: Commode broke and called for them to perform a repair. They did not have all of the parts needed for the repair due to the age of the commode so we authorized them to replace taht commode and another that was of the same age.

I called Mr. Plumber to fix a running toilet and a leaky bathroom sink; I also had him look at another toilet in our guest bathroom. Our primary concern was the running toilet. I felt the majority of the appointment was aimed at upselling us on a $2500 water softener and a new toilet for the guest bathroom toilet because he didn't know what was wrong. We opted to have our bathroom toilet rebuilt, which was $145. The next morning, the toilet would not flush. We had to open the tank multiple times over the weekend to fix the chain. This morning the toilet began making strange noises and rattling. The toilet is actually worse than its original state before the service. We also got roped into buying the service contract, another $99. When reporting the problem and scheduling another appointment this morning, the customer service agent was very polite. The technician was timely and courteous but I felt like I was being sold throughout the entire time he was there.

I called to set up an appointment and get an "estimate" on the cost of cleaning our slow draining kitchen sink. I was given an appointment but when I asked for an estimated cost, I was told they did not have this information and I would have to wait for the service call. I told him I had a coupon for a drain cleaning of $93 which I found on Angies list. I found out later this $93 was for a sewer drain not a kitchen drain. Why did I have to find this out with the service call. Was I to pay for a service call and turn the plumber away after he was there and still have a slow running sink? If I was told up front the cost I could have made my decision about Mr. Plumber doing the service or call some one else. The initial cost was $229 which was reduced to $136 (the difference between the cost of the kitchen sink drain and the $93 for the sewer drain cleaning). I felt I was trapped into using their service and they had misrepresented their service. I did not know the difference between a sewer clean up and a kitchen sink drain clean up. I learned something but this type of learning only makes for hard feelings. All the other companies I have dealt with on Angie's List have been upfront with their "estimated cost" and I have never had any problems even when a service cost more than the "estimated cost" because the company ran into problems. I feel customers can handle this but we do not want surprises when you first walk in the door. A simple kitchen sink clog could be given an estimate!

The service technician, Scott, was very knowledgeable and the quoted cost matched the final cost. Scott suggested giving 24 hour notice for scheduling the work. I have hard water and he quoted the price to install a water softener.
Description of Work: I had two shut off valves replaced along with a new faucet installed. The overall work took approximately one hour.

After grumbling a bit, he fixed the leak in bathroom faucet, but since has been hard to turn on and off. This would be my first and last "Big Deal" from Angie's List. Felt like a bait and switch.
Description of Work: Bought a "Big Deal" and called to schedule services to repair a leaking kitchen Delta Faucet. Without even taking it apart, the service man came and said he couldn't fix faucet and that I would have to get a new one and he could install it. Since Delta Faucets have lifetime warranty, I felt I shouldn't need a new faucet unless Delta determined that. Tried to get me to use the service call for other things like an overall inspection of all plumbing. In the end I had him repair a leaking bathroom faucet which he really didn't want to do. Gave me the same story as the kitchen faucet. Said it might break if he tried. I told him to be careful.

I cancelled the camera scope and and called another firm. They came and ran almost 150' and the drain cleared. Mr Plumber seemed more interested in selling services, and a complete drain overhaul. I realize this is an older home and we most likely have roots and other items in the drain but I'd much rather routinely clean the drain versus the alternative.
Description of Work: They came to clear a main drain in the basement and could not because they did not go far enough only 120' and needed 150. Since they could not reach the blockage and clear the drain they did not charge. Told us the drain had collapsed and would need to have a camera scope it several days later. Also suggested we do a no dig process that sleeves the drain. Anyway you slice it I was looking at thousands of dollars.

Minutes after spending 5 hours in a meeting to help the City of Carmel continue to be a great place to live and work, how frustrating and maddening it was to see a Marlboro cigarette box thrown from the passenger window of an RV Hallam service van (IN license plate TK219LDZ) This occurred at the first stoplight at Third Ave SW and Carmel Drive (just a few hundred yards south of the company's Carmel office) around 12:40pm on Saturday March 9. Then, just as I was about to pull alongside the van at the next traffic light, it changed lanes to make a turn, and I watched more trash come flying from the passenger window, this time a paper napkin or similar paper wrapper. My immediate phone call to the company was routed to an answering service, so I wasn't able to directly reach a company owner or executive at the moment. I hope that this post, though, gains their attention and that they agree that the unprofessional acts by the employee in their truck on Saturday afternoon are unacceptable. While my family never is happy to have any service professionalism in our home who smells of cigarette smoke, one who litters in our community is even less desirable.
Description of Work: I witnessed an act of littering by a Hallam Plumbing employee that made me, a past customer, want to never use them or their sister companies again.

The plumber arived on time, he was extremely professional. He provided an estimate of the work before he started and completed the work. He cleaned up aftward and there is a 90 day warranty on the work provided.

Jeremy, who came out with the snake-equipment to clear the sewer line, was punctual and very professional, and that part of the service went great. But the free camera inspection is scheduled at a different time--and the best to work for my schedule and their availability was 3 days later. I was given an 8 am -12 pm time block for the camera inspection, so I planned to take a 1/2 day off of work and go in when they left. When I hadn't received any call from them by 11 am, I called and confirmed I was on the schedule, which I was. At 12:40, I called again, and was promised that I was the next customer. At 2:20, I finally received a call that the technician was on his way. He got there at 3:15. The work was performed professionally and I received an estimate right then for replacement of my sewer line and connection. But I lost an entire day of work waiting for them. It would have been much more considerate of my time if they had called me mid-morning and said that they wouldn't be there until later in the afternoon. Then I could have chosen to re-schedule or wait, but instead I waited all day. If I choose them for replacement of my sewer line, I'll make sure to be the first appointment of the day.
Description of Work: I've been having sewer drain problems, and used their $93 drain clearing special, which includes a free camera inspection--that's an amazing deal.

The work to clear the kitchen drain was fine. The tech seemed efficient and cleaned up when he was done. No complaints about the work itself. My main complaint is around the price. When I called I was told it would be a $79 service fee and there may be additional fees if repairs were needed. I didn't realize that any work they do is considered a repair so basically the $79 is just to have them show up. They should have been much more upfront as to the range of costs given that this was about as basic of a drain clearing job as you could get. Note that this was not an emergency, not after hours, not weekend, etc. When the tech completed the work he gave me 2 options for prices. One was $79 + $229 for the clearing of the drain for a total of $308. Another was $99 for a service plan and $195 for the work for a total of $294. So I paid the $294 even though this seemed very high. I called today and was told that they don't have standard prices for these types of repairs and that it depends on how far they have to go to unclog the drain, which the tech didn't write down. In this case he quoted this before he even started the work. So it seems to me that the tech can charge about whatever they think they can get away with. My wife was here when he arrived and she approved it. I would have probably sent him away and called someone else. Based on the amount others have paid on Angie's List to Mr. Plumber for more extensive work I feel like I was taken advantage of for some reason. Again, I can't complain about the work, it was good. But if you choose to use Mr. Plumber for some minor work be sure to get more info on pricing.
Description of Work: Our kitchen sink would not drain. The tech brought in a snake/cable machine and ran it down the pipe and cleared the blockage. He spent about 35 minutes on the work itself.

I was quite surprised as to the cost of this work. He said he took off the 79 fee of service. However $161 for parts and labor for a simple kitchen strainer replacement seemed quite high. The installer never gave me his name, so I am not sure who preformed the work. The installer was nice and I am sure he did a good job. However I am sure there are more inexpensive plumbers out there. He said there is 1yr parts and 1 yr labor warranty. I did not buy a warranty and my fear is that it was tacked on without my knowledge. They have a $99 1 yr warranty offer. So am I pleased? Not really because I don't think I got what I paid for. Unless there markup on parts is 5X there cost

Wonderful experience, quality work. We needed a plumber to come out and remove an old water softener and install a new one.
