Description of Work: Pipe leading into my water heater was leaking from corrosion of the pipe. Work performed was replacement of pipes leading into and out of the water heater plus new shut off handles. I appreciate the companies quick response to my emergency situation. The service agent was very professional in giving me a estimate of coast of repair. The service agent was very professional in performing work. The work performed was very satisfactory Biggest concern is PRICE. Price of repair coast as much as a new water heater plus installation. Can not help but feel that it was excessive.

Description of Work: Called them out for a broken garbage disposal. I had believed it was a plumbing issue, but turned out to be an electrical one. Technician was very kind and patient, and I was very pleased with the overall service call.

Description of Work: We needed a new water heater. Our salesperson was very knowledgable, prompt, well groomed, and polite. We were really shocked when he quoted the price. We had purchased the old heater at Lowe's and discovered it carried a lifetime warrenty. I had forgotten that Lowe's also installs at the time, so all we needed was the installation. He wanted to sell us a new water heater. His rate for one of his water heater was $799. or $679 if you had their service plan. $560. for the installation $79.00 for the service call, than he wanted to sell us a warrenty on top of that. $99 for 1 year, $276 for 3 years and $395 for 5 years. We said no thank you, it still cost us $79.00 for the service call, which I feel we should have never been charged for such out landish pricing. The reason we even picked them is because Angie's list had a coupon for a free service call, but buyer beware, it only applies if they do the work.

Description of Work: Woke up to leaking hot water heater that I soon realized had been leaking all night. Called Metzler's plumbing and they came right out and replaced hot water heater immediately. I had used Metzler plumbing for years and was concerned that they may have changed since they were now part of another company but was pleasantly surprised to see that they are the same quality company that they have always been.

Description of Work: In October, 2010, my very old sump pump discharge line quit, and I called Mr. Plumber. They sent a young man who installed a very ineffective drain, for $2,084. It flooded the yard a few months later. In July, 2011, they returned and put in a much larger and more complicated line, with 21 tons of crushed stone. They gave me full credit for the first faulty line, but charged me an additional $2,500. In March, 2012, in a not very rainy spring, the west end of my yard flooded from the new drain. They returned on March 21st and made some changes, which have not made much difference. They are very nice folks and have tried very hard, and we hope that next spring things will be better, but I've spent $4,584 so far and still get a flooded yard. We're still friends, but I'm not very happy with the results.

Description of Work: Late Friday afternoon, I discovered that my water heater was leaking, and my basement was flooded. Within a hour of my call Mr. Plumber--Metzler, Frank, the estimater, came over and told me what kind of water heater would be best and gave me a 'guaranteed' price. He offered to have a plumber come over right away. Since it was almost 5:00 pm, I deciced to wait until Saturday morning. His office called within 10 minutes and had me down for 10 to 1 on Saturday. Exactly at 10:00 the plumber, Joh, arrived, took out the old water heater and installed the new one. He did so under very poor conditions! He was very knowledgeable and neat. Plus, he is a just plain "nice guy'!

Description of Work: They were prompt in scheduling. But they sent an apprentice plumber to unclog our bath tub and sink drains. He unclogged the tub but recommended more expensive plumbing repairs that we disnt need Then He made the sink worse than when he arrived and again suggested more expensive repairs. We called another plumbing company and they fixed the sink no problem with an inexpensive snaking.

Description of Work: In August 2011 we noticed that our available hot water for a shower was only lasting about five minutes before turning quite cold. We joked that our hot water heater had gone 'Green' and was helping us conserve water, but that didn't last long. It soon started a slow but noticeable leak. I started an 'Angie's List' search from the companies that had coupons in all of the various mailings we receive regularly. I picked 'Metzler's Mr. Plumber'. I called and after letting Patty know that it wasn't an immediate emergency, I was able to set up a convenient appt. for me with I believe was a two hour window. Frank showed up promptly to assess the situation. As we feared Frank said that the hot water heater was going to need to be replaced. The water here in our city is very hard water and had done a lot of corrosion damage to the inside of the heater. It didn't help that we had never performed any preventative damage maintenance of periodically draining the appliance. While Frank was here I inquired about water softener units. I was pleased with Frank's knowledge of the products available. My husband and I made a quick decision to also purchase the 'Easy Water 2200'. Frank set everything up for another technician/plumber to follow him out to the house with everything needed to perform the job. Shannon showed up and changed out the hot water heater and put in the Easy water 2200. Both men were very congenial and professional the whole time. They will even come out and do the maintenance on the hot water heater when it is needed. What really made me write this report is what happened next. A couple of days later my husband noticed that the water conditioning unit was extremely hot. It was too hot to touch and leave your hand on it. Since the unit was flush up against the drywall in the garage our concern was that it might cause a fire. I called 'Metzler's' back and explained our concerns about the water conditioner. Bob came out and checked out the unit. He explained that there really wasn't much he could do, and that it was unfortunately normal for the unit to get this hot in the summer. We explained to Bob that if something was not done to remove the heat from being flush up against the drywall then we did not want to keep it. My husband suggested putting up something on the drywall between the wall and the Easy water 2200 unit. Bob made a phone call to his home base about our concerns and then asked us if it would be and acceptable solution to us if he put up a couple strips of wood on the drywall, one on the top and one on the bottom of the unit. That worked perfectly. That put about a two inch gap of air between the wall and the Easy Water unit which instantly cooled off the wall and the Easy Water 2200 unit too. It is now November and we have not had any problems with our Easy Water 2200. We have also noticed a BIG difference in our water and more importantly our appliances in the home. The most noticeable difference is that it is now so much easier to keep the toilets clean. The hard water deposits in the toilets and the showers are gone. I wish I could say that was the end, but yesterday it got COLD for the first time this year and started snowing. I went to turn off the water valve to the outside water spigots for the lawns. The valve which I had not noticed before was gone. It had been on the same pipes that Shannon had rerun when he put in the new hot water heater in August. He had not realized it, but he had eliminated the valve while doing this. I called yesterday and explained what had happened, and that I had not noticed it until I had gone to turn off the valve and realized it was gone. Shannon called me himself and came out today and in about 15 minutes or less put the valve back in. Even after four months the company did not hassle me about the repair in any way. The repair was listed under warranty and cost us nothing. This is 100% professional company, and even though they are not the cheapest, remember you truly get what you pay for.

Description of Work: Fixed a leaking faucet, leaking toilet, and an estimate on another faucet. Metzler's Mr. Plumber is the only plumbing company I will use. They are always friendly and knowledgeable, and to me most importantly, honest. They are very upfront about all their estimates before doing any work, and they are honest as to the best options. I have used other plumbers in the past, and they were not only much more expensive, but nowhere near as friendly. I trust Metzler's Mr. Plumber 100%!

Description of Work: Friendly person answered the phone and while they were scheduling two days out, she scheduled me the next day because I needed a plumber sooner than that. Jason called when he was on his way, arrived on time, and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Removed two hosebibs on outside of house. Completed the work and offered some good advice based upon observations he made of conditions in the crawlspace of our house. I would use the company again and would definitely ask for Jason.

Description of Work: Whoever owned our house in the past, he or she jerryrigged the pipes that attach to the water meter in our basement. The water company learned about it and demanded that we change this by putting in something called a “yoke”. We first called Metzler, who gave us two options: first, replace all the pipes from street to meter and move the meter to the front yard, for $6000; or second,install a yoke for $1600, with the knowledge that: (a) and there was a significant risk that the pipes connected to the meter, made of galvanized steel from 1929, would break while they were attempting to install the yoke; and (B) all the pipes would in all likelihood need to be replaced imminently, from street to house, and a new meter installed outside our house. And when that happens, as it might at any moment -- The expected life of our pipes having expired 40 years ago––athe $1600 spent would be for naught, and we would have to pay the $6000 in any event. We then called Hope Plumbing, whose logo is “specializing in older homes,.” Jack, the owner, called up the water company to find out exactly what needed to be fixed, and came and fixed it for $429, cheerfully and with no fear-mongering -- explaining the risks, possibilities, and probabilities in a crisp and transparent way. In addition to working promptly and cleanly, Jack and his assistant Brad were delightful to talk to. Jack it turns out teaches a course on philosophy at IUPUI, and so can do plumbing and metaphysics simultaneously. He has spent some time studying the different ways in which medical risks can be explained to potential patients, and how different modes of presentation can direct the listener one way or another. He is an ethicist who is ethical. he thought that Metzler's characterization of the risks were quite humorous. He compared it to a doctor speaking to an 86-year-old man, explaining that he had far exceeded his life expectancy, and should seriously consider just throwing in the towel now. AI feel that my tax dollars spent on IUPUI were well spent.

Description of Work: The plumber replaced two toilets in our home. He called early when he could not make the appointed time and rescheduled the next day. I appreciated the quality of the work and the professionalism of all who work for this firm.

Description of Work: I had a faucet that began to leak Monday night, and the leak became progressively worse until I was emptying the water container every three minutes. It became apparent that the problem would not wait until morning and that my basement pipes could also be affected, so I was worrying about flooding. While I hated to call someone at 3 a.m., Hallam's ad in the Angie's List Magazine specifically listed 24 hour emergency service so I called them. I woke up Joe, who wasn't even on call but who was serving as backup. He tried to talk me through turning off the water supply, but all the valves were impossible to turn. Joe showed up as quickly as he could get in from his home, assessed the problem and managed to get the shut-off valve to work after a lot of effort. He couldn't have been more pleasant and reassuring that that was part of his job. And while I realize that they do advertise that service, it's still tough to be awakened at that time when you don't live in the area. At 9:30 the next morning, Jesse was at my door and fixed the problems, both of the faucet and the valves and also replaced two of the pipes in my basement. Both men were pleasant and professional and I will be using Hallam for all my house's plumbing issues in the future.
