I called a member specialist from Angie's List to get a dozen service providers for window repair service. I was calling, and then I was starting to have trouble since they seemed not be charging me reasonably. I called one company, Northside Glass and Mirror, and over the phone they seemed to be offering a reasonable price. But there's a catch. They emphasized again and again that the price might be higher once they had examined the windows. It bothered me because I gave the measurements over the phone, and I thought that might be a catch to bring customers in. So I decided to continue calling more down the list, and then I called one company that did not do repair, but only sold mirrors and windows per the owner. That owner highly recommended Kelly Glass & Mirror for repair. I thought that Mr. Jim Kelly must have a good reputation, so I was looking forward to speaking to him. Even though I called him on a weekend, he promptly answered my calls. I gave him a measurement over the phone, and then he wanted to know about the description of the window. Then he gave me the price over the phone. His price was about the same as the Northside Window, but he honestly stated the price without emphasizing that the price may change upon inspection. He seemed like a very honest, down to earth, genuine, mild mannered, kind gentleman. So I decided to bring the windows to him at his shop on the east side. My judgement of character proved to be true, and he was a down to earth, kind gentleman. I explained to him that my mom is a senior citizen living on a fixed income. I pleaded with him to make sure that he charged her reasonably. In an inspection of the windows, I made an honest mistake that one of the windows was a little bit large than the other I had measured and on top of that it had a grid. According to Mr Kelly, the grid is a pain in the butt to replace as it is more complicated. So even though I made an honest mistake and it would take more time to fix these, he said would honor the same price, considering my mom's situation. I really appreciated his compassion and honest from the bottom of my heart. He told me that it would take over a week, and that he would let me know as soon as the windows were ready. I was so relieved to hear that because the cold weather was approaching. Within a week or so, as promised, he called me to tell me the windows were ready. When I went to pick up the window, I was so surprised and very impressed to see that the window looked almost new again. When I left the window with him, it was so shattered in so many places that I had had to hold it together with a few rolls of masking tape. I had been worried about the residue of the adhesive it might have left, but there was none on the glass at all. I thought that he was almost a perfectionist. He is very professional. He must have a really good reputation because of his high standards and professional work. When I called him on the weekend, he said he was working on a big project that was for mirrors for a big casino down south. I was very happy with the work he had done. When I came to pick up the window and he showed me the spring mounted latches that were worn out, I learned from him that the window was not secure and that had caused the problem. He told me that because of my mom's financial situation instead of using the profession repair, he said I could buy the spring mounted latches from the hardware store and replace them on my own instead of using the repair service. I had no clue how to do this so I contacted him again to see how much it would cost to replace these three sets of spring mounted latches. He told me $100-$120 for three windows. Again he advised me to go to the hardware store to fix it on my own to save money. He told me that he didn't mind, and that he would send his repair man to see what size spring mounted latches were needed. His repairman came to check the parts. He was a really nice gentleman. He addressed to me that this part would be harder to find as the house is about 20 years old, and he was unsure if we would be able to find the part. I was so appreciative that Mr Kelly did not charge the service fee to come check this. I thought that it was very kind of him to look after senior citizens. I decided to go investigate on my own, I went to Menards' window section to inquire about this part. They were not able to help. After his service man was here, I contacted Mr Kelly again because I was afraid the window would get knocked over with the winter storms approaching. He address again to me that I should go to the hardware store and get the part myself. I contacted TruValue Hardware store and talked to the manager there. I explained to him that I needed this part, and they could not understand me at all. I asked Mr Kelly if it was okay if the manager of the hardware store called him to instruct him on what part I needed, he stated he did not mind. When I talked to the manager of the hardware store after he had talked to Mr Kelly, he stated his store did not carry this part. I contacted Mr Kelly again to see what store would carry this part. He advised Do It Yourself hardware store in Fishers may have the part. I contacted that hardware store manager and explained the part to him and he told me he carried several kinds. I was very confused. I contacted Mr Kelly again to see if the manager of Do It Yourself could contact him about the part, he agreed. Mr Kelly told him exactly what part I needed, and the manager put it by the cash register for me to come get. Mr Kelly saved me a lot of trouble and time and running around town to look for the parts which I wasn't familiar with. Without Mr Kelly's help, there was no way I could have found the right part in the right size. I really appreciate his dedication even when he was busy. He really went the extra mile to help our family. The parts were inexpensive. The owner of a siding company that is going to be doing our warranty siding project later, is just like Mr Kelly. They are extraordinary providers. His crew put all three sets of latches in the windows for free to help my mother out. In the long run because of these selfless, compassionate, kind providers it didn't cost hardly anything to fix these windows for my mother. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to Mr Kelly's good deeds my mother's problem is corrected. I highly recommend Kelly's Glass & Mirror to everyone.
