I awakened on Memorial Day to find that the main drain of the house was clogged. The drain had been slow for a long time, but this time it was clogged and backed up into the floor drains of my basement. I poured Liquid Plumber down into the drains with no success. I logged onto Angie's List and found what I considered an excellent local plumbing company indicated by their ratings. Knowing that everything is more expensive on a holiday, I called at 7:30 am anyway . I was told they could have someone out between 10am and noon. I was also told if I could wait until the next day it would cost less. I appreciated the information, but I needed the drain unclogged. I was surprised when I got a call at 8:15 am by the plumber who would be coming out. He said he could be here in about 45 minutes. He and his helper arrived as promised, spent about 45 minutes unclogging the main drain, cleaned up after themselves, and were out of here by 10am. The drains are no longer slow and have not drained this well in years.
Description of Work: Unclogged the main drain of my 62 year old house.

We found Hope on Angie's List and called them based on their grades and location to our home. We had just returned from vacation and discovered a slow leak in our hot water heater. With an 18 month old and pregnant wife in the house, it was imperative to get this situation fixed quickly! Hope was very understanding and since we were so close, they were able to send someone out within the hour. We had a brand new, working water heater installed within a couple hours. Great service! Highly recommend!
Description of Work: Installed new 50 gallon Rheem water heater.

Obtained 3 phone quotes upon reviewing Angies List, prior to scheduling Hope plumbing. They were the most friendly and spent the most time asking questions to understand the job. We requested many things one being to redo the exhaust ductwork. Jack requested a photo to be emailed such that he could determine what would be involved. Hope Plumbing was the only contractor who offered a one stop shop for me and could replace the flooring while replacing the water heater. Others had offered to come back the next day after the flooring was laid. This was a major bonus for us in the time being saved. Hope Plumbing Offered Rheem brand water heaters due to the location of their Supplier. 6 year warranty for $919, +$199 for 2 additional years, ect. The cost included all service fees, delivery, installation and removal of materials. Ours previous unit was a Bradford White Hydrojet, upon understanding the technical specifications and this units design we wanted to replace it with a like for like. Jack had indicated that this would be possible if we wanted. 10 days later...We called to accept the quote and to schedule the installation date. There were some minor communication difficulties as Jack was on vacation. Thankfully I had my notes to refer and they were able to work everything out such that they were going to stand by the quote provided by phone. They were indicating that they needed to come out to see the laundry room and space needing the new flooring. I was afraid that they were going to change their pricing on me. They were having difficulties with the Bradford White Warehouse to confirm the pricing of this unit type, but assured me that they would give a call back if there were any issues. My first choice for dates was not available and we had to do it the following week due to the availability of Andrew. Our water pressure was being extremely low and we were getting concerned that the unit was going to fail. But they had assured us if we had any issues during the weekend they would be available. During the weekend, we moved our washer and dryer, ripped up the old flooring, such that we could repair one spot, purchased the vinyl floor and primed and painted the quarter round. Monday8:30 am call to confirm that they would be there to install the Water Heater and Flooring They picking up items from the warehouse They also stopped by the Hardware Store to pick up the flooring that we had selected, since it was 12 feet long.10:30 am On site Laid the Flooring12:30 pm Unloading the Truck and I happened to be outside and notice that the Box was a Rheem not the Bradford White They offered 2 choices: 1. If I were to have the Rheem installed, a $50 Discount 2. To go and pick up a Bradford White There was no pressure to take the Rheem. BTUs for this unit was 38000 verses the Bradford white at 40000. I selected option 2 and he ran off to grab lunch, pick up the unit, chalk and some ductwork pieces. Plus he purchased new threshold material for the transition to our hard wood flooring, which we had forgotten to get.2:30 pm Back on Site Water Heater installation Plus He used a newer type of hardware therefore in the future we can replace the unit without soldering (ie no plumber)4:00 pm Shower leak was not only a valve replacement and we opted to not do this repair at this time. He helped me reinstall my washer and dryer back in place. 5:00pm Site was cleaned up, all debris was removed & Job Closed Out It was very well done, everyone was friendly, and time saving. We will use them again.I just need to check and see if they had left the warrenty paperwork in the pouch on the side of the water heater.
Description of Work: Water heater was replace and new vinyl flooring was also layed during this job for our laundry room. The exhaust pipe from the waterheater was streamlined to remove a hortizonal portion. Delta Shower faucet single handle has been been dripping. Upon inspection the plumber noted that it was put into tight and would cost $475 to have it repaired verses being a valve rebuild which was quoted as $169. We declined to have this serviced at this time.

Hope Plumbing did some work in the neighborhood so I called them when my regular plumber did not have the correct equipment to snake my drain. Roger worked for a long time on Friday and could not get the main drain unclogged. He sent some other folks out that evening to use heavier and longer equipment. They could not get it done either, which meant I had a BIG problem with the main drain to the sewer. Jack came out on Saturday and he and John stood in the rain with me mapping out various scenarios. Both were very sensitive to the fact that I had to send tenants to a hotel while the plumbing was not working. Arrangements were made to begin digging up the sewer line on Monday morning. Since this is an old historic section Indianapolis, no one was sure where the lines actually went. Early Monday morning John showed up with his equipment. I was so impressed with him. He worked very fast and at the same time was very careful in how he did the digging. A lot had to be done by hand. He didn't take breaks but worked to get the job done efficiently. He explained each step of the process as I sat outside to watch him. His knowledge of what he was doing was amazing. Of course it helped my appreciation of him that we shared a love of VW's and Saab automobiles. By early afternoon he found the broken pipe and when Brad came they replaced the pipe and filled the long trench from the house to the garage. And, the toilets were working again by late afternoon. Amazing! Everyone I dealt with at Hope Plumbing was outstanding. Very clear communication and they do what they say they do. I had heard horror stories from the neighbors about main sewer line issues. I did not experience that. I will call Hope Plumbing again and recommend them to my neighbors! Great Company!

I think I got them from Angie's List. They are wonderful and very reasonable. If others can get them, I would say that they should do go with them. I am in an older home, and they seem familiar with that. I have had a lot of trouble finding good plumbers, and they definitely would be my top recommendation.
Description of Work: I used Hope Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning for plumbing. They came out and gave me an estimate for the same work that was half as much as what another company had quoted. They didn't think it was necessary and they weren't sure it would actually solve the issue anyway. It's been over a year later and we haven't needed it. Then I hired them to fix a dripping faucet and replace some faucets.

Deck started and completed when said. Looks absolutely great, could not be happier with result. Only glitch was on the original meeting--the person to have come to the house did not receive my phone number or address, so I had to call the office when he did not show at the appointed time. Was apologetic and came out the next evening.
Description of Work: Built a deck over the existing back patio. Had to take out the concrete steps from the patio door and move the outside faucet spigot. Deck was 12X20, standard rails, wooden.

Our home was build in 1900. For 28 years I have wanted a water softener but put it off because of the expected expense of plumbing my outside faucets so I'm not watering my lawn with softened water. I talked to Jack Hope about installing a water softener. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job summing up what I had already researched. This company specializes in old houses and Jack described my cellar perfectly. This put me at ease that he would not be flustered by the exposed "everything" in the cellar.
Description of Work: Hope Plumbing responded quickly, gave a very good quote on a water softener that included plumbing our outside faucets so not to have soft water for outside use. They also plumbed our kitchen cold water to be non-soft for drinking & cooking. Roger and his assistant did the work. He was on time, friendly a did a great job. After 28 years hard Indianapolis water, I'm really enjoying my new soft water.

Hope Plumbing redid the drain in our basement where we get water backed up from the septic tank. They were very professional and the price was good. They had someone to come out the day before for prep work and to make sure everything was cleaned out. They closed the area off with plastic sheeting to do the work and cleaned up nicely after. I feel the price was good for work performed.

Hope Plumbing?s offer was misleading, and I do not know if that was intentional or not. I believed that the Big Deal would be honored as written. However, the business only uses flat rate pricing meaning the service and labor charge are included in the price of each service. So rather than honoring the Big Deal as worded, they gave me a small discount. According to a plumber?s online public forum, ?Flat rate pricing is becoming the way most service plumbers are pricing. It is a good way to keep your pricing consistent. But it is setup for one service at a time, by allowing for travel time to your home. When more than one repair is done at the same location you can't use flat rates for each service. What we do is charge a flat rate for one service and the rest of the work is done by the hour.? Hope does not do this. To quote a forum response, ?that is a horrible rip off. I would also consider this a bad practice of the Plumber to not better inform their customer.? Hope is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB); therefore they have not agreed to uphold BBB Standards, which includes ?Advertise Honestly.? My original BBB complaint was closed and the BBB stated no further action was required on that complaint (they cannot force Hope to act). However, the BBB issued an Advertising Challenge against Hope. If you click on the BBB link on this webpage you will see the challenge, and part is quoted below: ?The BBB requested the business modify their advertisement to include a general savings claim rather than a discount for 1 hour of labor. Although the business did respond to the original consumer complaint, the business failed to respond to the BBB concerning the modification of this advertising issue.? The BBB rating for Hope Plumbing is a ?C-?. The owner told me I should have asked for a quote, but why? I was not price shopping as I had already paid for work in advance. How was I to know that the Big Deal was not going to be honored as written? When I called to set up the appointment and stated I was using the Big Deal, I should have been informed how they intended to honor the deal. The plumber at my home should have warned me that each service he provided to me, regardless of the time involved, was going to cost me at least $139. So I end up paying $590 for the additional hour of labor which annualized is $1.2 million. Many doctors cannot earn that much in a year. The value of my free hour and service call was only $66 ($105 discount less cost of the Big Deal). Given that the BBB believes the ad was misleading, and I believed the ad, surely the owner could understand that he is partly to blame for the misunderstanding. His offer incented me to add services to my original request that I thought would be covered by an hourly charge. All I ask is to be billed for the extra hour and the two flappers, and return the other $449 to me. I have a disabled child with several medical bills each month. He is the reason I had to change the two handled faucets to single handles. The owner has also misrepresented the interactions I had with him. First, I have not spoken to the owner several times as he stated. We spoke by phone twice. I called him once, and he called me once. Second, I never asked him for more money. Instead, during the second call I asked him to calculate a new bill based upon time & materials, he declined. I believe Hope is a good business that does quality work. He is highly rated on this list. However, this pricing practice is wrong. I realize most people reading this will care less about this issue as long as Hope comes through for them, and according to the ratings 95% of you will not have an issue. This is the only company I have not awarded an ?A? rating to, but I hope to make it so. I am interested in hearing from other members that bought this Big Deal and ended up paying an additional fee where the plumber only worked one hour or less. You may contact me at [email protected]
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal from the List. The deal was for one free hour of labor and a service call for $39. To ensure the plumber would make some money on the visit, I planned enough work to cover two hours, and planned to pay additionally for the second hour of labor. Typically these deals are sold at little to no profit in order to generate favorable ratings and repeat business. Plumber installed three identical facets (I supplied them) in bathrooms and replaced the flapper in the back of two toilets that had a slow leak. Total time plumber was at my home was less than two hours, all in a single visit. Rather than being billed for an extra hour of work and materials, I was billed $139 for each faucet and $149 for each flapper install. Total charge was $715, not including the $39 I paid for the Big Deal. I was given $105 discount as the value of one hour of labor. That means for the second hour of labor I was charged $590. I was expecting to pay $105 (the same amount as the discounted hour). Therefore, the free hour is worth $105, but a paid hour can be significantly higher.

I spoke with the customer several times about his concerns. We refunded him $75.00. He called back and asked for more money off the bill after the initial refund. The prices that this homeowner paid are flat rate prices that have been in place for quite some time. At no point in time did the homeowner ask for a quote or an estimate before the work was performed. Flat rate pricing is quite common among service providers. In the same way that your doctor has set pricing for his services, so do we. I wonder if doctor's offices get the same types of complaints. I think that if you compare our flat rate pricing to that of other "big box" plumbing companies in Indianapolis, you will find that our prices are quite fair. I am sorry that the member and I do not agree and I wish him the best in the future. I have encouraged the member to ask for estimates in the future when he is going to have services performed. The BBB has deemed that "No further action is needed" and that "the company responded to the complaint addressing the disputed issues and exhibiting a good faith effort to resolve the complaint satisfactorily.”

First, this company did NOT pull a plumbing permit from the town of Speedway. They shut off the water for my house at the street, which the town told me they could get fined for doing. They left the water meter cover off & their tools in my yard. They were there for 3 days before i found them & replaced the cover. What if some child ran through my yard & had fallen in? I still had to cut the furnace drain below floor level since they forgot to do that. After I had replaced the floor(subfloor), & built the new walls, they came out to run the new plumbing. My girlfriend was there to supervise. They ran the new water heater lines through the new floor instead of inside the unfinished wall, they did not run the furnace drain through the floor. They also tried to intimidate my girlfriend when she stood her ground about what work was going to be completed. They left. When I got home I saw where they ran the lines & we called them to come out & fix the water heater lines. They gave the story that the plumber just put them back the same way he cut them out & that we were wrong for not telling him. We were told they would come out & fix the lines. I took leave so I would be there next time. When they came out, Nick Pappas said that reconnecting my silcock was not in our agreement & that he was raised to say that when they did a favor to tell the person they were getting a favor. It got done. The water lines for my water heater still did not get ran where I left space, but I'm not a plumber so that is OK I guess. While they were running the lines for the water heater, I went to the town hall & found out they did not pull a permit. I pulled it immediately. The plumber said I didn't need to do that but the town hall said I did. When the plumbers finished, they asked for payment on the work completed. I told them I was not satisfied with the work until the plumbing inspector came out & said it met the town of Speedway's codes. They said they were a "reputable" company & that they would come out to make any repairs the inspector said were necessary. The plumber called the owner & he said I was wrong for pulling the permit. After talking to the company's owner I wrote the check for $1500. The inspector came out that afternoon & gave a short list of work that needed fixed. We called Nick & gave him the list. He said that the pipes that were low were like that when they started. He also said that they didn't want to pull a permit because of previous work that wasn't right. He also tried to say that the bad work was from the HVAC company doing work at my house. Luckily the other company had taken pictures of my crawl space & they showed the before pictures of the plumbing, which was not wrong. Now they are saying the work is completed. We'll see what the Speedway Plumbing inspector says about it. In short, the company didn't do things they said they would do, they blamed other companies for things they did wrong, they left my house & property in an unsafe condition & they tried intimidation to get out of work. Be careful dealing with them & insist on seeing a plumbing permit before allowing them into your house.
Description of Work: Hope plumbing agreed to pull any necessary permits, move my washer hookup, rough in my kitchen water & drain lines, install a water line for my refrigerator, & remove my old plumbing lines. They were to cut all plumbing in my utility room below floor level so I could replace the floor & install new walls. Then they were to come out & reinstall the plumbing for my washer in the new wall, install the water lines for my water heater in the new wall & reconnect plumbing that was cut below the floor level to the fixtures they were ran to before.

To Whom it may concern: The member's complaint is, at best, divisive. the member and his wife attempted to do some remodel work at their home. Due to a general lack of knowledge, they did not follow general building standards. For example, they installed drywall before plumbing lines went in the wall. (Big Mistake!) (They also installed sheet-rock on the floor under their walls which means that as the sheet-rock crumbles over time, the walls will sag.) The member was argumentative and confrontational. I told our guys to do everything we could to wrap up the job and get on down the road. I would advise the member to be very careful about what he puts in writing as his statements border on being libel. We have no interest in repairing a relationship with the members nor will we do any work for them in the future. Sincerely, Jack Hope Hope Plumbing Heating & Air (317) 488-1532

I called Hope Plumbing first and Jack was wonderful and very helpful. He had 2 guys working on a Saturday, both on other jobs and wasn't sure when they'd be available but promised to call me back in 1 hour to give me an update. I continued to call a few other places trying to see if we could get anyone out right away (nervous new home owner syndrome) and iI was surprised by how many other companies said 'no' and didn't offer any help or suggestions. Oh well... I called Jack about 55 minutes after our first conversation to get an update. He chuckled at my impatience and I'm grateful he understood me. His tech, Tim, was wrapping up a job and was headed our way so I was very relieved to know we had someone coming to look and help determine if we might have a leak. Tim did the bubble/suds test on all our gas lines in the garage/laundry room and we just didn't see anything. He took his time and went back over the lines a few times. We have 2 floor drains in the garage and figured we could have been confusing the odor with air backing out of those drains or something else but we did not find a leak in the gas lines. Tim was also diligent enough to check the quality of the lines and did verify they were installed properly. I felt like we were taken care of and I'm very comfortable designating Hope Plumbing as my go-to guys for this kind of stuff. A+!!
Description of Work: We thought we smelled gas in our garage on Saturday morning and Hope Plumbing sent a tech to check for a gas leak.

Thanks for the kind review-we really appreciate it. I am glad the smell was just a dry floor drain and not something more challenging. Let us know if we can help! ~Jack

Our overall experience has been great. They are fantastic. We use them all the time for little jobs that we may need some plumbing service. They do a fantastic job. We are satisfied with them. I am not sure how much they charged. I think my wife paid for it and it was around $200. We would definitely continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: We use Hope Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning all the time. The last time we used them was to hookup a gas connection to our stove.

Gave me a quote over the phone. Pricing was good, but lost the business to an owner who came out personally and also gave us an Angie's List discount, which meant that we saved $130 vs Jack's quote at Hope.

Called 30 min prior to scheduled time. Repairman was there when I got home. He replaced the kitchen faucet as opposed to repairing it. The repair cost would have been close to a new faucet. He took about 1 hour 20 minutes.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet, snaked basement drain, replaced washing machine shut off valves.

The plumber was polite, knowledgeable, wanted to make sure the toilet was really fixed, and told me what to do if it happened again.

For plumbing, I think these guys are about as good as it gets. They do what they promise. I have found them to be very responsive and professional, and overall just nice guys. They come when they say they will, they do the work professionally, and their prices are reasonable.
Description of Work: I have used this company several times now. I own a drycleaners in BroadRipple and they have fixed issues with a water heater as well as a main water line that was leaking underground. They have installed a water heater in my home.

I called for a quote on some work I thought I had to have done to sell my house. I spoke with Jack and instead of quoting me what I thought would be a several hundred dollar estimate he offered to do some research for me on plumbing codes to see if I really did have to have the work done. He was friendly helpful and completely disarming. He called me back after spending his own time researching my issue and informed me that in his professional opinion the work did not have to be performed. He didn't have to do that for me but he did and i am really grateful. I would definitely recommend Jack and Hope Plumbing to anyone looking for an honest and straightforward plumber!
