I took the advice in another review and requested an estimate via Angie's estimate application; as I had a Big Deal coupon for a free svc call and 1 hr of labor. The estimate came back at $256...I then asked if the coupon had been factored in and was told no but I could be given a 5% discount. I then asked why the coupon couldn't be used and the conversation stopped when I wouldn't schedule an appt. After a few days I contacted Angie's list and their Big Deal group, explained the situation and they had Jack Hope contact me directly. I explained the situation to him and he even asked me why the coupon couldn't be applied. I said I had no idea and shared the online conversations I'd had with the estimator. Jack immediately got back to me stating I could use the coupon thus reducing the cost to $127. The plumber Larry called me 1st on the morning of the 6th to see what parts he needed. He then arrived prepared, He had no problem with me watching and asking questions. He explained that there would be carbon in the1st few batches of ice from the filter to just throw that ice in the sink. He showed me how to replace the filter when need be. The only thing I'd suggest is to remember to offer to clean up. Not a real big deal but since a hole had to be drilled through the kitchen floor there were shavings behind the fridge and in the basement that I had to clean up later.
Description of Work: A new water line with in-line filter was installed for my refrigerator's ice-maker

All went extremely well from my 1st call about pricing to the completion of service. Scheduling an appointment was easy, and Jonathan, the repair man was outstanding. He was professional, personable, knowledgeable, efficient, and tidy. He was happy to answer several questions that I had and explained clearly the work that he did. I feel confident that the work was done correctly. I was charged exactly what I was quoted, and I would definitely use this company again in the future.

Plumber arrived not just on time, but early. He immediately knew what the problem was when he looked at the inside of the toilet tank, and what was needed. He had replacement parts in his truck. He was neat and efficient replacing the parts. After answering a few other plumbing questions, he completed the visit and left. He was knowledgeable, courteous and business like.

We use Hope Plumbing for everything from fixing a leaky hose faucet, replacing the stem valve in an older home, to the most dreaded of all homeowner projects: replacing the main line. We will use no one else. This is because Jack Hope and his crew are personable, will take the time to explain things to people who, like myself, have no mechanical ability, and will get the job right the first time. We can't say enough about this company. At times scheduling them can be a bit tricky, but that's only because the word is out about the quality of their work!

The plumber did go into the basement and look into the crawl space, but did not go in. He said it was not at all necessary to cap off the water line in the crawl space. Instead, he removed the bottom of the old dishwasher and capped the line under the old dishwasher. Then he put a compression T on the hot water valve under the sink. I told him again that I was concerned because it was my understanding that the water line needed to be capped off in the crawl space and not under that old dishwasher. He again assured me that was not necessary. I told him the new dishwasher was in the garage and convinced him to look at it to make sure this would work. He did look at it and said what he did was fine. He asked if he could leave the bottom of the old dishwasher off and I said that was fine because HHGregg was coming the following day to install the new one. I paid $329 and he left. Shortly after he left, I noticed water under the dishwasher where he had capped off the water line. I checked and the cap was leaking. I called Holt and told them about the leak and that I thought the line should be capped in the crawl space. They said they would take care of it and sent the same man back a short while later. Again I stated to him that I wanted it capped in the crawl space because of what I had been told about the new dishwasher. I also expressed concern about water leaking under the dishwasher and not knowing about it. He again assured me that the dishwasher would fit and that it was not necessary to cap it off in the crawl space. He put another cap on the water line and left. This time there was no leak. When HHGregg came the next day to install the dishwasher, they could not do it because the water line was still under the dishwasher and had not been cut and capped in the crawl space. Luckily the HHGregg installer felt sorry for me and agreed to go into the crawl space and do the work himself. I immediately called Holt and told them. He said he would get back to me with an adjustment, but I have not heard from them since. I was very clear about what needed to be done and even after expressing numerous concerns that the work was not correct, I was assured it would be fine. The $329 bill, which was not itemized, seems like a lot to pay for merely putting a 3/8 inch compression T on the hot water line under the kitchen sink. After this report was filed, I was contacted by Hope Plumbing and they apologized, accepted responsibility, stated they were embarrassed by the work and refunded the entire amount I was charged. I was impressed by this action and understand that the poor service was provided by one person and not the whole company. I am certainly willing to give this company another shot because they showed integrity in taking responsibility for a poor performance.
Description of Work: I purchased a new LG dishwasher from HHGregg. Before it could be installed, I was told by HHGregg that I needed to have the water line to my old dishwasher shut off and capped in the crawl space and a 3/8" compression T put on the hot water valve under the sink. They explained that this was necessary because the new dishwasher sits directly and flatly on the floor. I called Holt Plumbing and asked for this service. The plumber did come when he was supposed to although he was under the impression that he was there to install a dishwasher. I told him HHGregg was doing the installation and he was there to do the prerequisite plumbing. I then told him exactly what I had been told needed to be done.

Service from Hope Plumbing was excellent from the estimate through the actual work. The price was reasonable, and they didn't try to steer us into an expensive set up. They let us pick our own sink and tile floor and lighting. The workers arrived promptly, and they were very thorough in both answering all our questions and telling us how the project was coming along without talking down to us. They also cleaned up every day after they left and did the little things they said they would, like caulking nail holes and getting the walls ready to paint. Those are small things, but it means a great deal when someone keeps their word.

Fixing the running toilet was no problem. The plumber explained the problem and the solution in understandable language. He did the repair well. Installing the kitchen faucet that I had purchased from Lowe's was a different story. The old faucet was slowly leaking and had rusted. The plumber had to saw it out. While attempting to install the new Delta faucet, he discovered that the holes in the Corion countertop were too small. He asked me to call someone to enlarge the holes. I called a couple of countertop companies from Angie's List, but no one would work on a Corion countertop which they had not installed. One company instructed me to go to a hardware store and purchase a round file to do the enlarging myself which I did without difficulty. The same plumber came back a couple of days later and once again attempted to install the faucet. This time he discovered a lip on the underside of the countertop which prevented him from tighting the faucet down. He told me to go to a plumbing supply store (Lee's) to purchase a new faucet. I spoke with the man he recommended who was unable to offer a solution as all faucets have the same configuration. He suggested that the plumber come to the supply store himself. The plumbing supply store suggested new countertops. I came home and called a different plumber who was able to install the faucet after drilling the Corion countertop without difficulty. I had used an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for the first day that Hope plumbing came and was charged $128.00 for additional time and parts. The second day the plumber was here for 1 hour and I was charged $69.00. The plumber was in contact with the owner of the company several times both days.

Pros: They contacted me within a reasonable amount of time after filling out an online request form. The 2 plumbers that arrived seemed very knowledgeable. They did not track in mud/dirt which I have had plumbers do before. They gave us advice about how to cement in one of our sewer clean-outs due to the fact that we have 2 and the one that they worked on seemed to have a bit of dirt coming up with the water. Cons: They gave us a 3 hour window of when they would arrive to do the work. They called during this time to tell us that it would be closer to the end of the 3 hours when they would arrive. They ended up arriving after the window by about 15 minutes. They also seemed to be missing a piece of equipment that they would have liked to use and so ended up using the chemical instead; they mentioned bringing a different tool because they thought they were going to be doing something different. I'm not sure that made a difference though. Overall, we would use them again.

We recently moved into an old home and the second afternoon began smelling gas coming from the fireplace in the upstairs bedroom. My wife didn't want to sleep in the house as long as we could smell gas and, as it was already about 4PM, I began to worry that we'd have to get a hotel for the night. I immediately hopped on Angie's List to find the top-rated gas companies and Hope was the only one who answered the phone. They told me that it was already pretty late in the day, but given my situation they would "make some calls and see if we can't help you out". About 30 minutes later they called back saying that a repairman would be out in about an hour. While I was very impressed with Hope's ability to get someone out to our home at the last minute, I was even more impressed with the two men who did the repair. Roger Kirby was not only knowledgeable, he was patient with me and explained everything that needed to be done, step by step. I could not be happier with Hope and will refer them to all family and friends.

I had had my drain snaked numerous times by plumber who worked for the home warranty company. I decided to replace the entire drain to the street. Called Hope on a Thursday and they were out on Monday as scheduled to give me an estimate. They were then able to do the work on that Wednesday. Since I couldn't do laundry without lots of water in basement the quickness was important. Showed up right on time and were finished sooner than I expected. They replaced the dirt and smoothed it out well. Although I have a front yard of dirt I was surprised at how little over all mess there was. Drain is not running smoothly. While the warranty plumber would have been cheaper, I was not comfortable with the quality of his work. The price was very much in line with quotes of others in the area.

I had four projects in one bathroom. He was only able to accomplish 2 of the 4 successfully. He was not able to stop the toilet from running or improve the water pressure. Instead, he said he'd have to replace the toilet (it's old) which would have included ripping it from the wall, installing a new toilet and re-tiling. He also was not able to improve the water pressure. He said we'd need all new plumbing to the shower. This is an old bathroom and this is not my first old house. I get that there are going to be plumbing issues and I'm really not unreasonable. I was only a little grouchy that I paid $600 for him to essentially tighten the faucet and clear the drain. It seemed expensive, but he spent the time trying to fix it and so he should be paid for that time. But now I'm REALLY GROUCHY because my husband fixed one of the tasks that the plumber said he could not. My husband (who is too busy to do plumbing work) took a stab at repairing the running toilet. It took him an hour. It's been working just fine for 3 weeks now.

This is the first I have heard of you having any issues. Did you call the office and speak with someone here? If not, I would strongly advise that you (and all homeowners) call and talk to your service provider before lambasting them on Angie's List. When negative reviews are posted before the homeowner has attempted to talk with the business about their problem, it makes the review much less credible. If I was not satisfied with service that I received, I would make the business aware of my issue and see how best to handle the situation. In my experience, making assumptions is a poor practice. If you are looking for a solution and would like to talk about your issues, we can see if there is anything to be done. I can be reached at 317-488-1532. Thanks! Jack Hope

I called Hope plumbing to get an initial quote on a pipe snake with video inspection of my sewer line and estimate for any plumbing inspection and possible work that needed to be done. When I spoke to Jack on the phone he was pleasant and professional. I told him that I was calling around a few places to get some quotes and he emphasized the fact that a lot of people will be sales driven (which according to him "they were not") and you need to go with someone you can trust to do the work and won't jerk you around. During our conversation I asked if I would be able to get a copy of the video that the snake records and he said that should be no problem. At that time he made no mention that he rents out the equipment instead of using their own video snake equipment. He also stated that his plumbing inspector would a "21 point inspection" of the plumbing to get an idea of what was needed. In the end I ended up going with Hope plumbing because his quote was the lowest for what I wanted to do. I scheduled with him at that time over the phone. The day of the inspection came around and it was scheduled for 10am that morning. When 10:30 rolled around I called Hope plumbing to find out if the inspector was going to come out that day as I never got a confirmation call and they were already 30 mins. late. When I spoke with the receptionist on the phone she said she did not see any appt. on the books for my inspection. She said she would call back once she could look into it. I ended up waiting about another 45 mins., before I called back to find out what was going on. She said she was still waiting to hear back from the guy in the field to get a better idea of what happened. I waited another 30 mins before calling her back at which time she explained that the day I spoke with Jack, he forgot and never put my appt. on the books. She was able to get me on for that day, but not until 2pm. I agreed (at this point I had to cancel a meeting that was supposed to happen at 2pm which threw off the rest of my work week) and set it up for that time. The plumber came out at 2pm and did a walk through of the house. There didn't seem to be any "21 point inspection" paperwork or description of any kind that he filled out. He simply looked quickly at my pipes and agreed with me on the things I said I already knew probably needed to be done; with the exception of a few additional items. This did not feel like a thorough "21 point inspection" to me. The plumber then proceeded to tell me that the folks that they rented the video equipment to run down my sewer line (granted I was never told they rented when all the other companies I call made mention that they did in fact rent the equipment) were running a bit late and would be there soon. I had assumed that he would be doing the video snake inspection himself. They never mentioned to me on the phone the day I originally scheduled the appt. or on the morning of that it would be a separate company coming out for the sewer inspection I had requested. I expected that all of it would be done by the same person. If I had been informed that it would be two different sets of companies coming out to my house and that the video snaking company was running behind I would have said forget it and possibly rescheduled the whole thing or gone with another company.Nevertheless, I ended up waiting another 2 hours for them to show up (the plumber sat in his truck the whole time, also waiting) at 4pm. There were viable reasons for being late, but at that point I was ready to forget it. They ended up putting the snake down the line, but got caught up on a root ball and couldn't go more than 32 ft from the outer wall of my home. This was because their normal equipment they use was being repaired and so they had to use their back up system which wasn't as good. Therefore we were never able to really see whether my line needed replacing or not and I ended up paying for a sewer line inspection that was never really completed and on top of that charged the same price for the use of their back up equipment that didn't work as well as their regular equipment. In the end the plumber gave me an estimate stating that it would be in my best interest to replace the clay sewer line with new piping among a few other things. This was without ever being able to see past the house or the whole sewer line at all.I called the company back and said I wanted to know if I could have any sort of discount for the trouble that was caused with the whole experience and that I really didn't get a full inspection of my sewer line. They said they would give me a discount on the future work I contracted them to do, but not on the inspection itself.I ended up calling an excavating company to compare costs for digging up my line and replacing it. This company was extremely helpful on the phone and even said 9 out of 10 times the lines didn't need to be replaced, just maintained. They even agreed to come out and snake my sewer line FOR FREE and only out of professional curiosity with no expectation of even needing to do any work. They just wanted to see for themselves. They mapped out my gas and sewer line ahead of time came out on time as scheduled and were actually able to run their snake all the way past the root ball and out to the street. They concluded that my sewer line was perfectly fine and that all I needed to do was trim the roots to which they recommended a person that could do just that and that exceeded most of their customers' expectations. They never charged me a thing or tried to sell me anything and they even kept me from possibly doing $4K worth of work that didn't seem to be needed. Needless to say I was very impressed with this company (Augusta Underground also on Angie's list).
Description of Work: Video snake inspection of sewer line with copy of DVD (they didn't get 32ft out from the outside wall of the home before they said they were stuck and couldn't go any further)Supposed "21 point" inspection for plumbing needs - just walked through my house and agreed to all the things I mentioned I knew I might already need with a few added itemsEstimate for work needed

Reviews like this are so very frustrating. Most of this review is vague and inaccurate. We were late because I dropped the ball on scheduling her call. I apologized several times for being late. Cameras are not designed to break up root balls - they merely identify them. A quote was provided at Abigail's request to replace the sewer as she was in the process of purchasing the home. Please see our hundreds of other A reviews for any other information about our company. Thanks! Jack Hope
