It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went fine. They were here pretty quickly. They did not replace the filter which I thought they would, but after further analysis, it is a very old furnace so maybe that's why they didn't do it. There were no extra charges. He was good, he was professional, and did a good job.
Description of Work: Homesense Heating & Cooling did carbon monoxide testing and they checked the furnace, but while they do the service they should replace the filter, but they did not.

Homesense has been incredibly helpful both times I have used their services. The first time they installed a new heat pump. The price was great. Everyone at Homesense was nice, courteous, and helpful. More recently I had them inspect the system to make sure everything was working well. This process was as painless as could be, and again, I thought the price was fair. I also had them take a look at repairing some duct work in my attic while they were here. Of the three companies that I had quote me, Homesense was the only one that took the time to figure out I didn't need the repairs at all because they duct work was from an old solar heating system that had been in the house years before. Their knowledge and thoroughness saved me about $1000. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone needing HVAC services. The only negative was that the installation of the heat pump took about a day longer than expected, but things like that happen. The work quality and overall experience were outstanding.
Description of Work: Removed old heat pump system and installed a new heat pump system.

We bought a last chance $79.99 coupon for furnaces and tune up and installation of a new carbon monoxide detector from Homesense Heating and Cooling. That went well. They came pretty shortly after we got the certificate. They only charge us $75. It was a good and thorough furnace inspection and they were able to give us good information about what was going on with the furnace and with the carbon monoxide detector it was a little confusing because we have an entirely electric house so at first I thought about that two of do we really need a carbon monoxide detector but is still not a bad idea so we did mount it.

Homesense Heating and Cooling replaced my neighbor's AC Unit last spring, and they were very happy with their service. So I called Homesense, as well as a few other companies, when my furnace went out. Homesense arrived on time, and gave me a free estimate for replacing my furnace, as well as an explainaton of the problems and options. Brad Odom was my rep, and was very easy to work with and took great care of me and my home. He explained the options to me in a way I understood, and even as a single woman, I feel very confident in the furnace we chose, and it was within my budget! Brad also gave me great maintenance tips for my furnace and air conditioning unit, and urged me to call if I had any questions. Brad was very competitively priced, worked with my hectic schedule, and left my home clean and tidy. I highly suggest working with Homesense Heating and Cooling for ALL your AC or heating/ furnace issues.
Description of Work: The Homesense installers removed my old furnace and all the old hardware and disposed of it and cleaned up the mess the old furnace had made. Then they installed the new heating system, taught me how to work the new thermostat, and started the system to make sure everything was in good shape!

I was well satisified with the maintenance check performed by Doug and agreed with his findings. He was thorough and knowledgable and I appreciated his honesty in assessing the situation.
Description of Work: I had another contractor perform routine maintenance on my heat pump in early June of 2013. The technician reported leakage from a valve in the heat pump and quoted a price of over $700 to replace the part and reinstall the coolant. I was not satisfied with the technician's findings and contacted Homesense Heating and Cooling for a "second opinion" Homesense sent a technician (Doug) to my home on June 25 to perform an inspection of the system and he said he could not find a leak in the valve and only a slight leak in the A coil of the furnace. He found the accumulator had considerable rust on it and said it was only a matter of time until it rusted through. He recommended I do nothing until a problem developed at which time I might consider replacing the unit which is 12 years old. The sytem is working well at the present time and I agreed with Doug that it made little sense to spend over $700 as the other contractor had recommended on a 12 year old system which had a rusting accumulator.

The service itself went well the tech arived on schedule . He did the service inspection and made his recommendations He did not have the parts required for the work. After some back and forth on the cost we rescheduled. He arrived on time again and completed the service. I guess it was done properly because the system works well.
Description of Work: This was the 3d time I have used Home Sense to perform the seasonal inspection and needed maintenance. On my HVAC unit. I paid $150 for a yearly service agreement and $350 for suggested maint on the air conditioner spring inspection. These services included cleaning the blower motor, Replacing 2 capacitors on the AC unit. I don't know what the industry average cost of this service is but I feel that the cost was somewhat high. The service tech was a very personable person and appeared to do a good job. The Terms of the service agreement are somewhat vague and not provided in writing. I do intend to continue to use the services of this company and would recommend their work.

After the purchase of the Big Deal, I received a call to schedule, it was very timely after purchase and professional. The scheduler agreed to have the service tech call me 30 minutes prior to his arrival to ensure I was back from an appointment. The service tech called as promised and arrive shortly thereafter. The service tech was well groomed, polite and professional. He got to work right away and was able to complete the job within a very reasonable span of time. He was also very good at providing consultative services about options for heating/cooling a room which is not currently heated/cooled by our exisiting HVAC system. The service tech said that I would receive an email copy of the service report and the receipt. I received those items and a quote for a new system for our unheated room. I was very pleased to have Homesense provide the services. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for furnance check and cleaning. The service tech cleaned our furnance & air handling unit, changed our filter (provided) and advised me on a few items. I also talked to him about a room that is unheated/cooled in our house and the options available. He stated that he will have a quote back to me for the options for that room.

We contacted Homesense Heating and Cooliing on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 5th, 2012 to schedule the installation of a humidifier on our home furnace. On Thursday afternoon Brian Schutt, the owner of the company, and a technician arrived right on time. They installed the unit, tested it and gave me detailed instructions on how to use it. They were prompt, professional and very courteous. A great company!!
Description of Work: My husband and I contacted Homesense Heating and Cooling because we were having problems with the air in our home being too dry. Brian Schutt was extremely helpful in explaining the difference a humidifier would make if we added one to our furnace. We decided to go ahead and within a day and a half our new humidifier was ordered, delivered and installed. Mr Schutt was at our home the entire time the technician was performing the installation overseeing the job. They were honest, professional and prompt. I wouldn't consider any other company for our future HVAC needs.

My husband and I bought a foreclosure that had been uninhabited for the better part of a year so naturally, we wanted all of the major appliances to be inspected and serviced. We moved in in October 2011. HomeSense was suggested by a colleague of our realtor. They were able to come to our home in the same week. When technician came to my home, he was wearing a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. He was not wearing any form of ID and he did not even identify himself. His truck did not have a company logo on it either. He came in, did what I thought he was supposed to be doing (cleaning and inspecting my furnace). He told me that my gas valve was not filling up to capacity and that it would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. I did not question his evaluation. Since we purchased a foreclosure, we also purchased the home-owner's warranty that would pay to fix any major problems with the house within a year of purchase. I told the technician that we would be giving them a call and let them decide who would be fixing the furnace. At this point, I spoke to the owner, Brian, personally on the telephone. I let him know we would be going through the warranty to get the furnace fixed. I also spoke to him about the lack of professionalism that his technician displayed on arriving at my home. He apologized and assured me that was not their policy and that he would speak to the technician regarding the matter. Being satisfied with this and my service experience up to this point, I thanked him and told him I would be scheduling an appointment to service the HVAC when the time came. Later that week, the home warranty sent their own team to evaluate the furnace. The technician that did the inspection told me the gas valve did not need to be replaced. It was not filling up to capacity because that is how it had been programmed. To fill up to capacity would cause the furnace to overheat and potentially cause a fire. Imagine my surprise to not only receive a conflicting report, but to also be told that everything is working as it should be. I contacted the owner of HomeSense again, via email, who spoke to the technician that visited my home. He backed up his technician (which I can't fault him for), and his response was this: "From what I discussed with my technician, he was certainly not trying to have you repair something that wasn't broken, he was trying to prepare you for a potential expense that you might see this winter. Keep in mind that the other company inspected the system after our technician had cleaned and calibrated the gas pressure. When a given part might break is not an exact science, but based upon how the gas valve was working when he first inspected, he believed it to be a potential issue. As we discussed, it is certainly not our policy to push a customer toward something that does not need to be done."I was quite unhappy with this response. There was no apology and I was never offered a refund. At this point, I was just done and decided that $50 wasn't worth the fight. Now, flash forward to December. On New Year's Eve, our furnace stopped blowing out hot air. I almost started to feel bad and considered that maybe that technician was right after all. Once again we called the home warranty company who dispatched their team. They found that the reason the furnace stopped working was because the sensors inside were completely covered by a thick film of dust. Once he cleaned that up, the furnace worked just fine. And guess, what else...he said the gas valve was working just fine.I am quite frustrated with this company because had I not had a home warranty who dispatched their own team for their own evaluation, and listened to the recommendation of the HomeSense technician, I would have been out a lot of money to replace a part that was working perfectly fine. They actually did cost me a lot of extra money just to find out that there is nothing wrong with my furnace. Then I had to pay for someone to come out on a holiday to clean my furnace when it should have been done 2 months prior by the HomeSense technician. I'm not saying don't use this company, I'm just saying use them at your own risk.

Member, Thanks for taking the time to share your inputs on our performance. We find that sometimes there's a difference of opinion upon what we've been hired to do for our customers, and yours is such a case. When you initially scheduled service, you asked for an inspection of your system and were provided that service. Had we understood that you intended for a clean of the system to take place, we would have certainly provided that service as well. In either case, cleaning the flame sensor would not have been included within the service, and your New Year's Eve issue was likely to have happened. We certainly understand your frustration at the fact that your system stopped working at an inopportune time, and do our best to prevent that from happening. Unfortunately homes bought on foreclosure have many systems with issues that are difficult to predict. I apologize you had a bad experience in your opinion, but we have hundreds of satisfied and happy customers across Central Indiana that would counter your opinion. Best regards, Brian

I called Homesense around 5:15 pm because my AC wasn't working. It appeared to be a power issue, but I wasn't sure. The technicians were at my house in less than an hour and had the problem fixed (they needed to replace the power switch on the main unit). They also stayed for an extra 45 minutes to perform my spring time maintenance that I had scheduled for next Monday. Finding an HVAC company that is responsive, affordable, and professional is not easy. I would put Homesense's phone number in your cell phone and call them if you ever have an issue around your HVAC unit.

While we always aim for 100% customer satisfaction, we recognize that can't always be achieved. In some cases we have made mistakes but always do business with integrity unmatched in our profession. This is one such instance, where mistakes were made, we owned those mistakes, and believed the situation to be resolved until seeing this unfortunate review. The errors made were ones of communication on what work was required for this customer's rental property system to be brought back into functional order. The system in the home was an outside air conditioner paired with an 18 year old electric air handler with a 5 kilowatt heat strip. Almost always an electric air handler like this one is paired with an outside heat pump, and is used only as an auxiliary or emergency heat source when the heat pump can not get to the desired temp of the thermostat because of outside air temperatures. Additionally, the system had not been maintained in years. He asked for our recommendations on improving heat for this winter, to which we provided the following options: 1.) Do a walk-through to see what the baseboard estimate would be and if there's enough room in the breaker box for the new units. 2.) Keeping outside AC and just replacing inside Fancoil, with Heat Strips. Including an option to use a working system that he been removed from a recent job because it was undersized. 3.) Install a new gas furnace, which would provide a less costly operation for the tenant and an improved performance of the overall system. He chose not to pursue any of these options to improve the overall heating capacity of the home, but rather approved a thorough clean of the system. At this point is where we made a mistake. Our technician, upon performing the clean and tune-up should have communicated directly with him or through one of the owners that the system was in such disrepair that the initial estimate was out of line with the issues he found. That did not take place, the system clean took 3 hours, and the bill was then sent to the customer. He correctly pointed out that the price estimated and invoiced were not in line, and he paid only the price estimated. We did not argue with him about this issue, but did that job at a loss. We don't believe the above scenario warranted the F rating he gave us, so felt it necessary to clarify for Angie's List customers. As I said above, we will always deal with integrity and honesty, even if it comes at a cost. Thanks, Brian Schutt Owner

I received a call from my property manager for a rental I own on Friday April 22nd, she stated the furnace went out and the tenant needed to get heat as quickly as possible. This posed a problem because it was late in the day on a Friday and the supply shop for furnaces would be closed on Saturday for the Easter weekend. I called Brian at Homesense, he immediately got to work on securing the furnace unit and made it happen. This is pretty amazing because he only had a couple hours to secure the unit and get it installed, not to mention he was out making calls when I called him so he had to make it all happen on the fly. Everything was completed without a hitch and the tenant, and I, were able to enjoy the Holiday.

Brian Schutt is the owner and he will deal with you directly to get your unit taken care of ASAP. The technician he sent out was named Mike and he was absolutely amazing. Told me he was not a fan of some things that he felt technicians and HVAC owners sell to you that are not necessary for your unit to run properly, both AC and heat. Our appt was for 9:00 am and Mike ran our door bell at 8:45 am. He also knew the name of our brand new daughter before he walked in the door, just blew me away. I am sure Brian must have told him since we traded emails about it before we came over, but the personal attention to detail was incredible. If you live in central Indiana and would like an affordable and trustworthy HVAC company, you should call Brian Schutt, the Owner of Homesense, they will take great care of you.
