Easy and fast. They came out and snaked the drain. Apparently, the clog was pretty far down the line (I had tried to get it but couldn't). Their people are always friendly and respectful, always explain the work they are doing and tell us exactly how much it's going to cost before doing anything. I really appreciate having a reliable plumber like them to call when something comes up.

Village Plumbing showed up early, but I was home so that was fine. He checked the battery and then called the manufacturer for guidance. After hearing from the manufacturer he said the battery needed to be replaced and he left to buy the battery. The plumber was very nice and he was professional. I think the price is high, but I had to agree to it because I did not have time to shop around or check out getting a battery myself.
Description of Work: Back up battery for sump pump failed and Village Plumbing sent out a plumber to check it and then replace it.

Service rep (Darren/Darryl?) arrived at the beginning of the 2-hour window, for which I was very grateful. The office called before he came. He was thorough and showed me how to replace my furnace filters and to clean them to make them last longer. Was very willing to take questions. Made suggestions to reduce allergens in the house, including both things we could purchase and have installed and things we could do ourselves. He was professional and easy to understand when he explained things.

They were right on time. They came to the door and they were very professional looking. They came in and they were here about 6 hours. They were never loud or annoying. They worked very efficiently and were very courteous. They explained things to me, their communication was great! They walked me through everything, explained how the A/C didn t need to be covered, because it was built to be outside. Scott took me to show me the furnace that they installed, and he showed me intake and outtake valves. They have really made the area much neater than it was. They left the warranties and instructions on the furnace in a plastic holder so that I would be able to find them and everything is all in one place. They completed the installation very efficiently and expeditiously. They did a great job. We have been using them for over 20 years and they just seem to be getting better!

Less than stellar experience getting a quote. We have used Broad Ripple for approx. the past five years. During that time we have had an annual service agreement. During our late summer 2008 furnace inspection the technician said we had a cracked heat exchanger and recommended replacing the furnace soon. So, we set up a time to have someone from Broad Ripple come to the house to provide a quote for a new furnace. Initially, the quote was for only a replacement of both the AC and furnace. At the time they had a special that if you bought an AC they would throw in a furnace for "free". Of course they don't throw in the furnace for "free" but that is a great marketing tool. We decided to get additional quotes and decided early on that Broad Ripple would not be getting our business. Our reasons were multi-faceted and had a little to do with some uneven service over the previous five years and an issue concerning one repair in particular. But, mostly it had to do with not feeling like we were getting an informed and earnest quote. When another business did a Manual J calculation and said we should have a 80,000 BTU gas furnace, the person at Broad Ripple (who did not do the calculation) said, essentially, "but you have a 100,000 BTU furnace now" as the reason why they would put a 100,000 BTU in. For anyone who is confused, like I was initially, go online and read about furnace sizing and Manual J calculations. Make sure the business you deal with does the calculation so you get the right-sized furnace (bigger is not better when it comes to a furnace). I did get a furnace-only quote and it was higher than the two other quotes. Broad Ripple was not willing to budge on the price but they did offer a service agreement, duct cleaning, and 10 year warranty. We decided to use another business to install the furnace because we were able to get the top of the line furnace on the market (Carrier Infinity) at a much lower price. If you are replacing a furnace ask for a 10-year parts and labor warranty as it seems like businesses will include that if asked.
Description of Work: Received quote for new 100,000 BTU gas furnace.

The installation was fine, but again the price was extremely high and I felt I was between a rock and a hard place because if I didn't have the work done I would have had to pay the $89.00 service call fee anyway, so I went ahead and told them to do it. I tried to get an estimate by phone but was told they would have to see it first. My advice, be cautious when using this company due to the high cost factor.
Description of Work: I had Village Plumbing take out the old faucet and install a new kitchen faucet (which I had already purchased) and the estimate was $266.00 ($233.00 after my Angie's List discount). I thought the quoted price was extremely high since I had a handyman previously install a similar faucet a couple of years ago for approximately $60.00. The whole job took about an hour.

Not only did John come out to troubleshoot our furnace problem; he also returned to install the new pressure switch (and his "temporary" repair of the old pressure switch was enough to keep the furnace going over the weekend and until the new part arrived). The part did arrive a day later than we were told, and the front office communications appeared to be a little behind (I had to call them to find out the part was arriving a day later than expected). But all in all, John was a fine service tech rep for his company, arriving promptly, doing his job efficiently and quickly, and leaving copies of all the completed paperwork and receipts for our files. And our financing was set up expertly and hassle-free by Broad Ripple Heating and A/C with a local finance company.
Description of Work: An unresponsive furnace when the temps began to dip a few weeks ago prompted my search of Angie's List for a reputable repair company. John, with Broad Ripple Heating & A/C, came to our rescue. He pinpointed the problem (a bad pressure switch), made a temporary repair (part had to be ordered), and didn't make any promises he couldn't keep (made my husband and I well aware that the temporary repair might not hold and that the age of our furnace made it susceptible to a multitude of possible problems, not just the pressure switch). This kind of frankness is, frankly, rare, as well as refreshing. We knew exactly where we stood in regards to repairing our furnace. And John also suggested that we might be able to arrange some short-term financing, since this was an unexpected expense at an unfortunate time.

My renter had also mentioned the bath sink was slow draining. We augured this line for another $150. However a problem was encountered, where the auger caused one of the fittings to leak inside the wall. Village had to open up the wall and repair the fitting, which brought my grand total to $600, much more than initially expected. I thought they might throw in a new sink stopper as a perk, but instead wanted $200 more, which I declined. All told, they were responsive and got the job done fast and right. However the pricing is high, and it's like you're dealing with a robot. They seem to have preset prices for everything. No consideration given to the uniqueness of each repair.
Description of Work: My renters reported a clogged kitchen sink drain that couldn't be easily repaired. I thought we needed to replace the iron drain pipe with PVC, but Village Plumbing recommended auguring the iron pipe instead. This seemed to work, and the bill was $150.00.

I had an old, inefficient furnace which likely would have gone at some point, but was also venting into a chimney I needed to have removed, so I purchased a new one. I had to schedule this job around others (including new gas lines and getting rid of the chimney) so I appreciate that they estimator and installers kept their appointments and did the work in a timely fashion. They only problem in the process was a confusion over the cost (partially) due to the fact that I asked for a number of options (in terms of efficiency and upgrades). I was also in and out of town and had to do some of the follow-up by phone. The bottom line was that I ended up with a "official" price that was more than the estimator has said it would be when we met. That is, when we talked things over, he gave me a number of prices (based on options). But when I called to say my decision of which option, he explained he had calculated incorrectly and the cost would be higher. I knew this before I agreed to have them do the job, but it was annoying. In the end, however, they did a good job and I am pleased with the work. I have yet to really calculate the impact on my gas bill for the winter (and, of course, it is always hard to compare one winter with another), but I am happy with the choice.
Description of Work: I had a new gas furnace installed; I also had them add a return air vent (since there were not enough for the house). And, for convenience I had them move the thermostat. The estimator answered my questions about possible options.

It went very well. The person giving me multiple estimates gave me the information (and breakdown on options) that I requested. The plumbers came when they said they would and did a LOT of work in an efficient manner. They removed everything that was old. They were patient when I wanted to explore different options (including the possibility of having a water softener in the future, but keeping the outside faucet on hard water) even though I was not going to have the softener now. The only glitch (although it turned out fine) was that I thought they were going to call the Water Company (to locate the box to turn off the water to the house), but I needed to do this. Fortunately, I found out in enough time to get the water company there before the plumbers were to show. They clearly were used to working with plumbing in old houses. I had one plumber say that it was unlikely there was a turn-off at the street and that trying to do work on my house (without being able to turn water off at the street) was something only he knew how to do.
Description of Work: I had both the water pipes and the gas pipes replaced. The plumbing was 80+ years old and, over the years, people had replaced portions of the water pipes with various metals. There was almost no water pressure. In addition, there was some lead pipe coming from the main water line and there was no cut off valve. There are now copper pipes and a variety of useful cut-off valves. The gas pipes were also old. It was not clear that the gas pipe to the fireplace was working (and it lacked a cutoff valve). There are now new pipes and cut off valves where the pipes enter the house (as well as the external one near the fireplace). I hadn't necessarily planned on doing do much, but I think that having all new pipes will eliminate problems down the road (and, certainly, in the case of the water pressure, was a smart move now).

It went well. When I got an estimate, Edward Kittle (the owner) was very good about giving me several options for different kinds of heaters. I have been incredibly happy with the tankless. My gas bill went down dramatically over the summer--indicating the efficiency of the new heater. They are pricey, but given the increasing cost of gas (as well as a small rebate from the Company and a deduction on my taxes), I think it will be worth it in the long run. I also like the potential for endless hot water if I am doing several things in a day (laundry, dishes, shower, etc). I think they could have installed it faster but I had to have other work done first, I appreciated that they kept their appointments and did the work in the estimated time because I was also scheduling other jobs after this one (once I got rid of the old water heater, I was having an old chimney removed).

They were fast, competitively priced, and the work is holding up well. I no longer fear accidentally bumping a pipe and ending up in three feet of water. The only issue was with the billing. I did not receive an invoice upon completion, but immediately began getting messages asking for payment. I wrote the check the day that I did receive the invoice, but it wasn't picked up for several days. I would normally have mailed it, but the instructions were to leave it so that it could be picked up. Other than the billing, I was thoroughly pleased.

Overall it went fine. We have a very old boiler (nearly 50 years, we think) that supports the radiator system in our old house. It has several big pipes coming out of the sides of it, and one of the pipes had become corroded and was dripping water all over our basement floor. Broad Ripple Heating and Cooling came out and looked at it and gave us an estimate of around $1000 to completely replace the part. They weren't able to get the part and make it back to repair it for several days, but once they came back, they were able to repair it fairly quickly. The main repairman worked quickly to keep the labor costs down, because he knew this was an unexpected expense for us and that we were hoping to pay as little as possible. The repair was made 18 months ago and it's still completely water-tight and working great!
