+ -1 moreThis new report is for a follow up call when we complained about a whirring noise the new furnace was making. This noise was especially loud in the dining room. We also felt the floor vibrate in the family room above the basement furnace. We babysit for our 18 month old twin grand daughters and asked them if they could send someone out sooner rather than later. It was 15 degrees when we called. They had Kevin Moore out in less than 2 hours. He checked out the furnace. It needed the filter replaced, the door to the filter area needed tightened. He explained how often the filter needs to be changed because of the high volume of air that passes through the new furnace. This was causing the vibration in the family room. We still didn't know what caused the whirring noise. Kevin turned off the furnace and we could still hear the noise. Even though the furnace was not making the noise,he went all through the house and garage trying to determine the cause. It was a small fan in the bedroom above the dining room. Kevin Moore is a great representative for the company because he was determined to find the source of our problems and he didn't stop until he did. We are so glad we can call on Broad Ripple Heating and Air, they go the extra mile for their customers. Our grandkids are toasty warm in a quiet house so they can nap.
Description of Work: They replaced a 35 yr old furnace in Sept 2009. I have submitted a report on that instillation. This is a report on a follow up call to that instillation. Since the furnace was still under warrenty there was no charge for this visit. I just wanted you to know what great service people work for Broad Ripple Heating and Air.

+ -1 moreOverall Broad Ripple did respond on time, and did find the problem, but their prices we way too high. We used them about nineteen years ago to replace an old furnace and had an argument with them after the service men fried the programable thermostat. They did not want to replace the programable thermostat, so they installed a lesser - manual one. I only bring this up now, because there was no Angie's List back then!! Broad Ripple Heating and Air has my $94.00 from there service call, but thats the last of my money they will ever get.
Description of Work: Called to have a diagnostic report on a furnace that was not running properly. After describing the symptom to the service man, he noticed a door panel that was not screwed in to the frame. I told him it has been that way from new and that was not the problem. He put two screws in the panel and the furnace started. He thought that was it, and started to put his equipment away. I told him again that was not the problem, and about a blinking light on the control board. By chance while he was about to leave, the furnace failed. He then realized there was a real problem. He removed a access plug on the metal door and saw the blinking light I told him about. Then he started to track the problem. He indeed found the problem, and told me it is a very expensive replacement...$700.00 to $800.00, or replace the furnace. I was not going to make a decision on the spot, so I asked for the service bill. $94.00.... $5.00 of that was for a material charge... two little screws!! $14.00 was for "You could have saved" I could have saved what, and how? What does it mean on the bill.... "You could have saved $14.00?" I jumped on the internet and found the same part online for $268.38. Less than half of what Broad Ripple Heating and Air was going to charge. I then did some more calling around and found a company with a real company employee to answer the phone... not an answering service. He quoted me $390.00 for the part, the installation of the part, plus a two year warrantee on the part, plus a one year service check-up warrantee on my furnace and air conditioner. He came to check out the furnace Monday, and gave me a choice, because the furnace maybe had two years left. A new furnace will run me $660.00 after factory rebates, and a tax rebate . That is $200.00 less than just the part from Broad Ripple Heating. I am going to get the new furnace... not from Broad Ripple

water heater repair
+ -1 moreI called in the morning about my leaking gas water heater and spoke to someone at a service. I got a call back from Andy, the manager, later that morning. He was very helpful over the phone. He arranged to have a representative come to the house later the same day. He explained that the service representative would take a look at the water heater and then call back in to get any needed parts. The representative Steve arrived as scheduled and took a look at the water heater and recommended it be replaced. He took some measurements of my space, then went out to his truck to make some calls. He came back and informed me that they did not have a water heater available to fit my space and would need to track one down. He made some more calls, then came back with an estimate for the repair work. He had located the identical model, which was not the model they normally stock. The estimate was around $1650.00, too high in my opinion. I paid the $94.00 service charge, although no actual work was done, and sent Steve on his way. I then called another company, the same company that had installed the original water heater, and got a quote for $1230.00 for the same water heater, installed. I called Andy back to give him a chance to match the quote from the other company. He regrettably could not. Nice people to work with, but be careful with their estimates. I read several reviews on this site and they were all positive. I'm guessing they do good work, but I can't justify the additional cost. Also, I would have expected a free estimate for the repairs. I did not expect to pay a service charge, since no work was completed.
Description of Work: I had a leaking gas water heater. I had a repair estimate that was much higher than expected and did not have the work done.

I haven?t done anything major with them for a long time. They have been bought out and they have a new owner now. They also have a new management and their employees don?t seem to be happy with it but their work isn?t suffering.

+ -1 moreIn 2000 we replaced a gravity sewer with a combined gravity sewer and a sewage lift station. Over the years we have experienced failures of the switches on the lift station and have replaced these. After the last failure, in July, 2009, and anticipating that the lift pump would likely need replacing in the near future, we decided to replace the pump - hopefully with one with a type of switch that wouldn't require as much maintenance. Village Plumbing provided the replacement. This was a messy job! Lift pumps are heavy, difficult to access and are covered with filth. The plumber involved with this work was extremely careful to make as small a mess as possible and to clean up any mess made. He left the workplace (and the rest of the house) in at least as clean a condition as it was before he started. Even though we didn't ask, he wore booties to cover his shoes and provided drop cloths in areas whre a mess could exist. Over the past few years we have used Village Plumbing for several different jobs. All, including this one, have seen quality workmanship, good coordination of the work between the company and the customer. We do plan to continue using their service.

+ -1 moreWe have been doing business with this firm for over 20 years and plan to continue. hey have always been easy to contact, prompt in providing service, and considerate of the customer relationship - they call before coming to let us know when they will arrive and are excellent in scheduling and providing contracted services. The quality of service has also been excellent - no major problems with either the heating or cooling systems, and prompt resolution of any minor problems that have arisen.
Description of Work: During 2009, as a part of a service agreement for maintaining a furnace and air conditioning system, Broad Ripple Heating and Air Conditioning performed a total of three services at our home. Prior to the summer cooling season they serviced our air conditioner. In the fall they serviced our furnace, and as a result of that service found a defective humidistat. They replaced the humidistat on 9/9/2009, and the cost reflects only the cost of that device.

He was very professional and knowledgable and the installation went exceedingly well. We were very pleased with the entire process and recommend Village Plumbing to your subscribers.
Description of Work: Our electric water heater began to leak and I was inclined to replace the heater with a tankless water heater system. Contacted Andy Jaspar at Village Plumbing and he came to our house to evaluate the situation and provide us with his recommendations on the best way to proceeed. He was very methodical and professional in assessing the location of our water heater and the best way to access the gas line in the attic so accomodate our desire to go with a tankless system. After carefully assessing our floor plan, he laid out he pros and cons of the tankless system vs replacing the exisiting electric water heater. He determined that the existing heater was still under warranty and provideded us with the cost of a replacement tank system with the tankless system. Based on the cost analysis, we determined it would not be cost effective to go with the tankless gas heater we had been considering. Andy advised us that one of the problems causing tank type water heaters to leak prematurely was excessive water pressure and recommended that we have a water heater thermal expansion tank installed with the new heater to absorb the excess pressure. The cost of the expansion tank was minimal . We agreed to have Village Plumbing install a new tank type electric water heater the same day Andy made his visit.

A couple of years ago there was one guy who wasn?t just so great and I asked for the guys I wanted and they were fine with that. I like them. They are a little pricey and I am thinking about looking for somebody else but I haven?t gotten around doing that. I would continue to use them until I find a company who does as good job as them and who is much cheaper.
