Brick + Ember Outfitters

Kourtney came out early (8am) on Election Day (he'd already voted) so I could still leave and get my kids to pre-school on time. He quoted us a price lower than another masonry guy found on Angies List. The other guy wanted to completely tear out every row of bricks where there was one brick that was bad. Kourtney offered just removing the offending bricks at a significant savings for us. The other guy wanted to completely replace the flue, Kourtney said it wasn't necessary. We opted to go with Masonry Outfitters and are quite pleased. They also offered a 20 year warranty if we allow them to water proof their work every five years. The other guy had a 10 year warranty and didn't mention the need to periodically waterproof. He did warn me that if the weather was freezing that they wouldn't be able to perform the work and we'd have to wait until spring. Apparently they can add an additive which keeps the mortar from freezing, but Masonry Outfitters thinks this inevitably weakens the strength of the mortar so they don't use it. I felt that after talking with them that it was obivous that they don't cut corners on their work and really just do what is necessary. They appear to be quite willing to be judged on the quality of their work alone. They came out with their crew, did the work over about 2 1/2 days, cleaned up the site and will be back in about a month to do the final water proofing after the mortar has been seasoned a bit. We'll definitely stay with them for future needs, including periodically waterproofing, and chimney sweeping!

The last time that we had our chiminey cleaned the guy swept the flu cleaned out the ashes in the for place and even removed and cleaned the glass in our fireplace doors. This guy swept the flu and cleaned off the firplace bricks. He didn't clean out the ashes or the glass doors. I wonder how he can give my fire box a good inspection with it full of ashes. Maybe I expected too much. for $100.

When they came out we were told there would be 5 men and they would have to build scaffolding on our deck in order to reach the roof to get to the chimney. They didn't do any scaffolding and only sent 2 men, not 5. They started Thursday and finished Friday. As soon as they were done they wanted their check. Because they didn't scaffold they took off $250. In the mean time I checked their work area and it was a mess. Stuff from the roof and chimney is all over our deck and furtniture. I don't want to pay them until they've cleaned up their area. I've left several messages for Kourtney, but he won't answer his phone or return my calls. He didn't come when he said he would and he came when he wasn't supposed to. I've never had this happen before. I use Angie's list for everything and I've never met such an obnoxious contractor. We feel ripped off and that he is trying to take advantage of us. EDIT: This has been resolved! They came back and cleaned everything up. They were very nice about this. They realized that they were in the wrong.

Covered everything inside w/ plastic, cleaned up afterwards; pleasant and professional. Had originally scheduled to do work later in week, but had an opening because of the weather and called to see if we wanted them sooner -- worked out well for us.

Kourtney responded quickly to a price quotation request. He thoroughly reviewed the chimney and stonework in question. Kourtney confirmed the issues identified in the home inspection and provided a detailed review of the work he recommended. A price quote was received within one week and the work was scheduled to initiate approximately three weeks later. A break in the schedule accelerated the work and within two days the project began and was completed in the predicted time frame of two days. The finished project looked great and the crew was quick, efficient, and cleaned up the project site very well. Kourtney finished the project with a chimney sweep and was able to answer any questions I had about the project. Overall, Masonry Outfitters exceeded expectations and completed the project splendidly!

They did a good job! The work they did we were really happy with. When you look at it, everything matches with the original. Some friends that have experience with this type of work have commented on it and asked who did it for recommendations.

I was so pleased we had recommended them to our neighbors who've also used them!

I thought it would be a good since Angie's List was promoting the "special deal". It was terrible. He showed up at my house for the inspection and was there less than 10 minutes. He wanted to borrow a flashlight for a better look! He did NOTHING.. $100 rip off.

Prompt and on time for service. Kourtney came in and got right to the service. He checked internally and then got on top of roof to perform the sweep. He was quick and thourough. He came back in laid the drop cloth and cleaned out the fire place. He explained some things concerning the fire place and what may need to be replaced in the future. He was very professional.

It went well, just remember that a Big Deal can mean a long wait for the service.

We love it and the kids use it all the time. It is so great! They were awesome to work with and it really adds a fun feature to our yard.

I have used Kourtney a his crew a few times now. They provide excellent service and craftsmanship. His crew of masons are unlike the surly bunch of people you may think of when you think mason. I would recommend Masonry outfitters for any repair they could do for you.

The work was fine, but not the overall price. I shouldn't have had to pay anything extra.

They did a nice job with the brick, using old bricks and matching the mortar well. The concrete patching was okay, more noticeable as the concrete patcching material they used did not match the sidewalk well. The young owner was responsive; although he needed to reschedule our date a couple of times, he did keep us informed.

It took two sessions to complete. I had to call them back due to the dark color of some of the mortar and to complete filling of some mortar areas that had been ground but properly filled. The person assigned worked hard and there was no problem reporting the problem to the company owner. I was a liitle surprise that the special offer ($99) also required an "overhead fee" 0f $105 making the total of $204,

The deal was $99 for 3 hours of masonry work. I did end up paying additional for the work, but I am not sure if that is because they sent 2 workers. I was pleased with the work that they did do, and my porch got the improvements it needed. I am considering hiring them again in the future for other projects.

It was great. Kourtney is super friendly and was completely patient with my son that was pretending to be Willie Wonka the whole time and was all up in his business. He did a great job and thoroughly explained the safest way to operate my fireplace as I had just moved into my house a couple months prior.

I live in an older home, and the chimney runs all the way down to the basement. They installed a sleeve that went down to the basement and did a repair on the roof around the chimney to ensure that there would not be any leaking issues. They did an excellent job. They got the work done quickly.

Very polite, punctual, and tidy. The tuckpointing looks very good and they worked hard to match the grout.

We purchased services through the Angie's List Big Deal. We had additional work above 3 hours, but were very pleased with the work provided. Kourtney was punctual in giving us an estimate and getting the work scheduled. He also followed up that we were pleased with the completed work. We would use them again in the future!

It went wonderfully well! The new mortar is a good match for the old and they did a great job of sanding and applying. I'm very pleased.

They surpassed my expectations on the attractiveness of the wall. We mainly wanted a utilitarian wall, but they cleared out the old cement block, brush, debris, and added a nice accent to the wall which made it all the more attractive. We were very impressed. We are going to have them bid on another masonry project we have in the near future.

My brick house has been in need of some masonry work for quite some time. Therefore, I needed quite a bit of work done. Masonry Outfitters removed my brick chimney, installed a chimney cap and then removed and replaced about 200 crumbling bricks on my home. It was hard, grueling work, and they did a wonderful job. After the work was finished, Kourtney reviewed the work himself and decided that a few of my bricks needed some re-work, which was completed at no extra cost. I was pleasantly surprised by his integrity and honesty. I would recommend them to any and everyone.
