I will NOT buy an Angie's list deal again, as you don't know what the contractor will charge until after you've made your payment to Angie's list. It took a couple of weeks to schedule someone for an estimate, then I was out of town on business for a couple of weeks. By the time I got a second estimate (for $400 - nearly have the price), I asked for a refund as was told I was beyond the 30-day return policy. BEWARE buying the deal from Angie's list.

Received estimates from 3 companies. The individual from this company doing the estimate brought a ladder, climbed up on the roof, took pictures. A written estimate arrived promptly. Price quoted was in the middle. Contacted promptly with work date; work completed as promised.

CMO did a number of projects for us, from replacing spalling bricks on our mid century modern, to replacing bricks in gate post that was damaged, to opening our floating fireplace up to a see through and then completely re-veneering the entire structure. Even when we ran into material issues (manufactures not theirs) they were patient and communicative. Kourtney and his crew are the best, absolute true professionals who aren't happy until you are happy. Extremely satisfied with CMO.

The company was doing work across the street, so I asked Kevin to come over and estimate masonry repair work for my porch. He took down all my information, took pictures with his iPad, and explained to me how he would quote it. He also told me to expect an estimate in four days. I never received an estimate, I never saw Kevin and I never heard from the company again.

The work is all very good quality, but there was an "accident" during the dismantling of the old chimney. A large piece of masonry fell and damaged my house. The company did take care of all the repair work, which was also done well. It all took longer than I was led to believe. Seemed like the work crew was just spread thin between various ongoing jobs. They did a good job, though, and were professional.

IF YOU WANT TO WORK WITH A COMPANY WITH WORLD CLASS CUSTOMER SERVICE START HERE. Estimate: After purchasing a new home we found that water was entering the basement at the chimney. With heavy rain a substantial amount of water would make it to the basement. We had three estimates. Two unnamed highly rated Masonry specialists said that the chimney was fine and needed no repairs. Chimney and Masonry Outfitters was the only service provider of the three that recommended repair and isolated potential water intrusion points. David (Sales/Estimator) was punctual in coming to the home and isolating the three potential water intrusion points. He was professional and through in his estimate. He performed a water test on the potential water intrusion points and ranked the three recommended repairs in order of importance to be fixed. David was certain that the water was entering the home at the shoulders. Due to this David recommended prioritizing the shoulder repair. It was suggested that I replace the chimney cap and the step and counter flashing but these measures were more maintenance oriented rather than water intrusion points. I decided to move forward with the Shoulder repair to remedy the leak and the cap repair. Although it was imperative to fix this issue in my home to prevent future damage I was worried about the total cost of the recommended repairs. I shared my worry with David and we were able to negotiate a rate that was fair to both parties. Although they were pretty booked and behind schedule due to unseasonable rainfall, Scott (Production Manager) was able to get us in to their schedule in a timely manner. Repair 1: Adam (Crew Foreman) and his crew were punctual in arriving to my home and finished the recommended Shoulder/Cap repairs within the estimated time. Unfortunately I could not be home during the repairs to communicate with the foreman. One of the limestone shoulders on the chimney was worn and cracked with age prior to repair. I was under the impression that we would be replacing the cracked limestone shoulder cap. The cracked stone was used instead. Additionally, the mortar was the wrong color and the repairs were evident. The work was done very well but the work was highlighted by the incorrect mortar. Things don't always go perfect. It's how a company responds to bad situations that defines and separates them from their competition. This is where Chimney and Masonry Outfitters established themselves as a world class company in my mind. After speaking with Scott (Production Manager) about my concerns he quickly accepted blame and sent a crew back out to replace the cracked stone with a new stone. They also started the job over from scratch and used the correct mortar. The repairs are seamless and blend with the home. You would never know it was repaired. A post repair water test was performed and the shoulder repair was water tight. Repair 2: After the shoulder repair we had more unseasonably high rainfall. Our chimney was still leaking. I called Scott (Production Manager) and explained that the home was still leaking. He explained to me that isolating water intrusion points can be somewhat difficult at times. So much water was entering through the shoulder area during the water test that they hated to recommend unnecessary work at the flashing. He likened it to taking a car in to an automotive shop and finding out that additional unexpected repairs were needed. I appreciated their approach and felt fortunate to be working with a service provider that would not recommend unnecessary work. Scott (Production Manager) came to the home, inspected the completed repairs, and confirmed that the additional water was entering through the flashing. I understand that it can be hard to pinpoint water intrusion points but I was a little upset that the flashing repair was the third priority of the three suggested repairs. To keep this project in budget I would have waited on replacing the chimney cap as my immediate need was to remedy the leak. I explained this to Scott (Production Manager) and asked that they complete the flashing repairs at a discounted rate. He understood my frustration, and completed the flashing repairs for less than I asked for. Although he had a multitude of jobs going on, Scott (Production Manager) made me feel like I was their priority. He sent a crew to my house with expedience and fixed the flashing. A post repair water test showed no water entering my home. Summary: Chimney and Masonry Outfitters is an extremely competent Chimney and Masonry specialist. They took the most time with me at the beginning with their estimate and water test and they resolved issues with professionalism and expedience. Hiccups happen in home repair. Some things just can't be planned for. When hiccups happen you want to be working with a company that you know will fix your home appropriately, stand behind their work, and make you feel like a priority. Chimney and Masonry Outfitters did just that. They have created a customer for life in me.

I feel the service provider should have been more clear on the coupon that there was an extra fee for inserts and required a second person on the job. It does mention an open fireplace. I thought that meant that it wasn't closed up or the chimney was open. I feel the provider had another chance to ask on the phone if I had on insert. Instead the one person they sent couldn't do the job that day. They want an additional $220 to clean the fireplace. I declined. I'm sure it costs extra for the insert cleaning. However, no one likes expecting one price and be told another. Giving them a C for wasting their and my time that day.

The company is very professional and business like. They went above and beyond. One of the chimneys they worked on had been rebuilt before. I knew what was causing the problem, but no repair person every took the time to figure out how to fix the problem. Chimney and Masonry Outfitters did!!!!!!!! They keep me updated on everything that was going on. I hope I don't have any more chimney problems; but If I do, I definitely call on this company!

Honestly one of the more polished home construction companies I've called. A++ on professional, communication, and the gentlemen's interaction with me as a customer. Overall a really well done "front end" experience. Top notch. Sadly the services being sold and how it was sold was somewhat on the level of insulting. Explained the extreme fire hazard, rebuilding of levels of brick at top, and a price that is somewhat preying on people who don't know better. Some work was needed but $800 for a top when a simple check at even the non-discount stores like homedepot and lowes have them for 1/4 that price. Gives you an idea of the price gouging. I'm sure the work would be excellent and the clean-up and things would be also, but for the price it's like having your oil changed for $200 and told you have to do it every 2,000 miles. No matter how nice the place is or the people. I wouldn't recommend them. But very polite, professional and probably a very savvy ran business model.
Description of Work: Good and Bad. (Bad) Very overpriced, fear factor "salesman" like explanation of why extensive work needed to be done. Had 2 quotes of same work less 1/3 price by same professional level. (Good) VERY professional communication and first contact, sent over a rep who was clean cut, professional looking, and polite. He took a quick look inside the chimney, hopped on the roof and took pictures of the small house's (1000 sq) chimney related items.

The actual tuck-pointing and adding the stone went well and looked as expected. The issue was the mess created and subsequent poor clean up. No effort was used to lay a drop cloth or protective mat to cover the surrounding concrete porch area and thus the masonry mix went all over the place and left mortar stains and small splattering of mortar bits. When I informed CMO of the issue they came out and attempted to pressure washed the area. This cleaned some of the mess up but then subsequently made it look worse as the pressure washing was not uniform and left "striping" marks all over thee front entrance porch. I again informed CMO of this and they came back out to clean again using an acid wash. They were able to improve the look of the concrete porch but in mean time the acid wash ruined our front walkway pavers by dissolving the poly-sand that held the pavers together. Thus weakening the paver joints. Basically, if more care had been taken up front to protect the surrounding area from mortar splatter and stains none of this would have happened. The subsequent poor attempts to correct the situation only made it worse. Generally looked like a quick and sloppy job of it. Then a month afterwards I got an email saying I owed them $2000+ dollars for the work! My initial response was to correct their error as After a couple emails I had to dig up the ."you must have the wrong account as ours was only to be the $111 per special. Finally was able to scan and mail back to them the agreed quote at which time they finally acknowledged that it was an error. Again, the basic work performed was OK it was the initial disregard to protect the area not being worked on and then the poor attempts to remedy the situation.
Description of Work: I responded to an offer for $111 for 3hrs of masonry service. We had some issues with the stone around our front entrance door and couple front entrance pillar bases with veneered stone. We agreed to the basic work of tuck-pointing areas of stone that were not done well by a previous mason and to add some stone to pillars.

Someone referred this company to me. I had no reason to think that they did not do a good job with work that they did do. My complaint is that they did not do due diligence to see if there may be other problems with this fireplace. I am now finding out 8 months later, with all renovations done to the home, that I have further work on the fireplace that needs to be done. I wanted to put gas logs in the fireplace and they are unable to do it until I repair the fireplace stack. Chimney Masonry Outfitters repaired the furnace vent stack and the other items to the fireplace stack outside of the home. I now have to remove the repair they did do on the fireplace outside of the home; so that the other company can do the work that needs to be done. Basically double duty and paying for it twice. I cannot understand why a professional would not follow through with due diligence to make sure that it is all done correctly. I would not know what needed to be done unless I was told. I would not use this company ever again;. There response to me is they followed the contract and that is all they needed to do. I am frustrated. I do not expect anything from them at this point. I will be going another direction and I am hopeful that everything will be resolved correctly with another company.
Description of Work: The provider repaired items that were on inspection report on 9/28/2014 for $2,400.00. When they were done, they gave me a recommendation for a company for gas logs and then told me that I everything was good to go. We have finished the renovations on the home and I called the company they referred for the gas logs. This company found that my fireplace was not repaired. I have two stacks. My complaint is they did the work for the furnace vent, but they did not make me aware that my fireplace stack needed to be repaired too. I am a lay person and I would expect the professional person to do due diligence to make the customer aware that there may be further problems. Now we are 8 months later after renovations and I am being quoted another $2,400 to do more work on the fireplace, so we can install the gas logs.

It was okay. They didn't really do much as far as cleaning the chimney, but they did talk me into buying a chimney chase. The additional amount that I paid was considerably over the $79 that I had paid for the big deal. I paid an additional $975.? Not everything got done as far as cleaning, and I wasn't happy about paying the $975. I thought they were going to come and inspect the chimney and clean it, but they didn't. They inspected it, and then put the chimney chase and that was it.
Description of Work: They came out and asked if I was going to burn the fireplace, and I said I probably never would because it hasn't been burned in a long time, and also they said it had some rust in it, so I needed a new chimney chase, and so I basically ended up with the chimney chase, but I didn't have it cleaned out. The chimney chase is something that is on the chimney that keeps the water out, and they said that it had water on it, and they took a picture of it.

It was an extremely cold day but Kourtney and Sheldon showed up to replace the bricks. A significant amount of pre-work was necessary to get the opening ready for the replacement bricks. Kourtney and Sheldon worked extremely hard in the very cold weather which required extra measures just to complete the job. Both of them were very professional and courteous and I would highly recommend Chimney and Masonry Outfitters.
