I'm not saying that they don't know what they're doing, but you may wish you'd hired someone else if anything goes wrong (e.g. a cracked plumbing pipe). On a positive note: Dave F. (Big Dave) is a great representative and a real man. His professional demeanour should be the model for A1's customer service. He's the only A1 representative that didn't tritely tout the phrase "The customer is not right" to me during my dispute with them.

Big Dave came to my house and was helpful in diagnosing the problem. When the workers came after the concrete wall had been exposed (see following comment) it was a quick job and the workers were pleasant and professional. The challenge is A-1 does not remove the sheet rock to expose the wall nor reinstall when complete. Big Dave recommended of Rob Lovitt to come and remove the baseboard and area of sheetrock to expose the concrete wall and then cover and finish the wall. Bid Dave gave me an estimate of the job cost for Rob to do the work. Rob came out, did the work, gave me a bill for 30% more of the estimated cost and then had additional costs to come back and finish the job. When negotiated and scheduled to have the job completed with confirmation on day/time via texting, he was a no show. So, overall A-1 did a good job but be careful with recommendations for prep work contractors and don't rely on their price estimates for the work.

They responded by coming out to inspect the area. They eased our worries as it was more of a cosmetic issue. The walls were not compromised.
Description of Work: We had occasional flooding in our basement and A-1 reinforced the walls with carbon fiber material and also installed a drainage system along the exterior walls. This was an expensive repair, but you get what you pay for. We have not had any issues since the repair. We only had a concern about some paint flaking.

Josh was VERY thorough, informative, and punctual. He is not a salesman, so he wasn't trying to sell us on anything, just there to see what was wrong. He found the issue, gave me a thorough and detailed description of what needed to be done. He actually offered to show me exactly what it was, so I could show the eventual plumber.

Someone came out promptly to inspect our basement. Upon hearing out my concerns, he took me outside to walk around the house and pointed out things that I could easily try that could prevent the basement from getting wet. He was honest and helpful for a young homeowner (who's clueless really). My basement hasn't been wet since and that was months ago, and was free! Would hire them in a heartbeat for the waterproofing due to their honesty!

Concrete is all different colors and looks like patchwork, slab is all cracked and irregular, water leaks in from tucked bricks. If you want purely waterproofing this would be fine. Other work done on foundation and concrete work should be done by the appropriate contractor. Owners promised to come back and fix issues but never showed up after we agreed. Its been 6 months now.

Response from A-1 Indiana Waterproofing Inc
On September 21st of 2016 Mrs. [Member Name Removed] contracted A-1 Indiana Waterproofing, Inc. to address an ongoing issue with her basement. She was given a couple options on how to address this issue. She chose to have a PVC drainage system installed on the interior of the basement and lead it to their existing pit and pump with a 2" cap on the entire floor, running the discharge line to the front of the home. She also elected to install an [Member Information Removed]-Z Breathe system in the basement. We removed 2" of the walk on the west side of the home and repoured. We also, tuckpointed walls all the way around. The work was scheduled for November 2, 2016. Twelve days after installation the customer's husband called and stated the basement was still getting water, and that the concrete work looked patchy. I scheduled an appointment with our owner to come out and address their issues. Upon inspection, the system was not leaking, the existing water was still being pulled out of the basement walls into the system to be carried out of the home. The concrete being patchy is very simple [Member Information Removed] concrete will never match old concrete. Our owner explained that this was a cosmetic issue but to insure the customer's satisfaction we would come out in the spring to paint the concrete with a specialty paint. In January, he followed up with the customer who advised that the system had dried out the basement and all was working well, the owner reiterated that in the spring we would be out to paint the concrete at no additional cost to the customer. Last week we received the following email from Mr. [Member Name Removed]: Any update on the painting of the outside concrete that looks like patchwork and is all different colors as was agreed after I shook hands with the owner. I have to say it's pretty s***** to promise to come back , shake my hand, promise to do something and never show up. I guess I will just paint it. Before I do I will put a sign up that work was completed by A-1 waterproofing next to the restaurant. Enough time has passed, about 4 months since your promised to come by and there was plenty of dry weather. Although the owner said he could argue with it being the number one restaurant in Indy here is the below article showing it ranked as number one restaurant in the state of Indiana, let alone Indy. Its actually nationally rated. [Hyperlink removed] In any case, the outside looks like s*** to everyone who walks and drives by. Not sugar coating it, its looks f****** horrible, I'm p***** that you never showed up after shaking hands and I got ripped off. Hope to never see you again, I f****** hate you. [Member Name Removed], [Member Identifying Information Removed] [Member Identifying Information Removed] I also had a very colorful conversation immediately after receiving the email that became so vulgar I had to terminate the call. We completed the work that was contracted for $14,000.00 not $140,000. The waterproofing is doing exactly what it is designed to do, and today is the 1st day of spring. Many of the products we use have manufacturer's specs that must be followed for the product to be effective; such as dry environment, such as application temperatures and various other things we must consider prior to use. That is why we sometimes have to do things at different times of the year. We are just now beginning to schedule the customers that we needed to return to this spring.

They did a fantastic job. The basement has been dry ever since. And we've had a lot of rain lately. Before the job was completed the owner came and helped us squeegee water. This company did work at my Mother's house about 15 years ago and she's been dry this whole time.
Description of Work: We had water coming up through the basement floor. The basement was standing in water. They dug a french drain in the basement and installed a sump pump. The basement walls were bowing and they had to reinforce them with carbon fiber strips.

Fantastic! Mark said the slope was not an issue. He did look around and thought the crawl space was a bit too humid and shouldn't be. He had a plan to fix it and it sounded like a correct solution and the price seemed fair. We did not have the service done, tho, as we decided to go a different direction. Also, this was not the original problem, however we are greatful that the humidity problem was found. There was no pressure, just a solution that we may at a later date remedy. We would have no problem dealing with Mark again as he was a really nice guy!

I made an appointment for 1:00 to meet Wayne at the house. He left a message on my husbands cell(15 minutes prior) to say that since no one picked up the call that he was cancelling he appointment and we needed to reschedule. After returning his call he said he would still come but would be late. I waited and he did show up in a real hurry though. He looked at the porch and said he would need to meet with an engineer before discussing any further and said the engineer would bill him $300. He was there a total of 2 minutes and handed me a packet a company information and was gone. I was fairly shocked at this treatment since we had done business with them before. After waiting on a call back for several weeks my husband called the office yesterday to see what had transpired and she acted as if no one had ever come out. What? She had no record of anything and didn't seem to far one way or the other. We asked if she would discuss this with Wayne and she said he would be out of the office until September. She said we could call the engineer ourselves. What? I couldn't believe this treatment. We decided at that moment we would continue to look for another foundation expert who was more willing and friendly to work with.

The work crews reported to work on the day agreed upon, and the project progressed in a timely fashion. The work was performed by experienced workers, and supervised by experienced supervisors. The crew leaders supervising the work were happy to describe what they were doing and how they were doing it. The work was performed per the specifications of the contract. Additionally, all items verbally agreed to be performed by the contractor, not written into the contract, were performed without question. Wayne, the owner, was available when I called with questions during the project period. I talked to Wayne more than one time. Mark came first to inspect the damage, determine what was needed to fix the damage, and produced our contract. Wayne came to assure the work specified in the proposed contract was adequate to correct our issues. He assured the work would be mutually acceptable before the agreement was finalized. After acceptance, at the agreed upon start date, work began. Ed supervised most of the work, and assured the quality of worker performance. I believe he assured my home was respected, and treated as it was his own home. Ed definitely knew his job. The main crew consisted of 6 staff members, all who worked hard. Derrick was Ed’s main assistant and he was very personable. Derrick seemed very capable and knowledgeable. Justin, Wayne’s son, came to complete the installation of the moisture control system (EZ Breathe System) with another crew. Justin came back to move the vent. (which I wanted moved because I made an error specifying the location) This required extra work, and I was not charged for the cost of the rework. I believe I got more value than had been mutually agreed upon, and the quality of workmanship was excellent. I never felt pressured from project start to finish. My bank arranged financing to pay the balance I owed, took longer than planned to actually become available. A1 was patient while waiting for the balance of their fee to be paid, and did not call excessively to inquire. I received pictures of the work that was performed. I will be asking A1 Indiana Waterproofing, Inc. to return as needed to perform periodic inspection. I highly recommend A1 to repair moisture damage to basements or crawlspaces. They will get the job done correctly and perform the contracted work in a timely fashion. We are very satisfied with the work performed.
Description of Work: The A1 Indiana Waterproofing, Inc. workers inspected our crawlspace, took pictures of the damaged areas, installed an exterior crawlspace access door, trenched inside the foundation to provide for gravity drainage, and provided downward sloped gravel bedding to install perforated drainage pipe in 4 separate foundation perimeters. (original structure foundation, plus 3 room addition foundations) The trenches were filled and pipe covered with gravel to assist proper gravity drainage to sump pits. Three sump pits were installed including 3 sump pumps. A1 employees installed discharge pipes from all 3 sump pumps, which were strap secured to the floor joists running toward the exit point from the crawlspace, 3 pipes were ran through the crawlspace wall to underground connection at one larger pipe, and a large discharge line - with proper gravity fall - was trenched and positioned to drain water away from the house. Numerous rotting floor joists, sill plate boards and band boarding were replaced and/or properly repaired - securing the structure from sagging. A flexible plastic moisture barrier with rip-stop was installed throughout on the crawlspace floor. The kitchen floor was jacked up and leveled. 50 years of debris from work improperly left by contractors in and around the crawlspace was removed. This included a number of well water storage tanks. All debris was hauled away from my property. A moisture control and dehumidification (EZ Breathe) system was installed. Finally, pictures of finished work were supplied as requested as verbally agreed.
