For sometime, I have been experiencing water seepage in my basement. I called around and spoke to companies that specialize in this type of problem. However, I was most impressed my Perma-Seal estimate and their sales rep. ability to explain things to me. "Jeff" arrived on time for the estimate, inspected the basement area in which the problem was occurring, and sat with me to go over some solutions. He told me how and why seepage occurs and how Perma-Seal systems correct these problems. He even showed me a video on his laptop. (Video was so COOL!) Several days later I scheduled the work and was given clear instructions on completing the contract form. Two weeks later I changed my mind and wanted to upgrade the sump pump model. Both the office clerk and Jeff called and emailed me with adjusted contract. They both went out of their way to make sure I received the corrected form and the new warranty. On the day of the installation, the workers (not subcontractors) arrived on time, explained the process to me and got to work immediately. They did a great job of covering the work area with plastic to decrease the amount of dust. Jeff told me it would be a one day job and sure enough it was. At the end of the day, the workers walked me through the area and left my basement clean. I couldn't be happier!
Description of Work: I had a new sump pump install in my basement.

Rick Mays was a very good consultant. He was easy to talk to and very relatable while staying professional at all times. He was my contact person whenever I had questions and he would come by the house if there were things I needed him to see and answer questions about. The presentation that Rick gave was very clear and visualizing. He explained every detail of what would happen during the tile drain installation process and he made sure I knew what appliances, electrical, plumbing concerns I had to take care of to prepare for the waterproofing. Permaseal is great! The workers were very efficient, courteous, and worked very quickly. I can't believe they actually completed the work in one day! I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone! The only thing I don't like is that the main cleanout pipe is very loud now when water flushes or flows through it .
Description of Work: My basement has been seeping water for over 40 years. 15 years ago we put in an overhead sewer which prevented the basement from flooding but still allowed the seepage to come in. I was looking for a company that could waterproof my basement. I called several waterproofing companies out to take a look at the basement and give repair estimates. Permaseal was running "neck and neck" with another top company. Both companies told me that I needed the drain tile system with backup battery. Rick Mays a consultant from permaseal would follow-up with me from time to time to see if I was ready to have waterproofing done. One day Rick called to say that he thought they could lower the original estimated price for waterproofing and I decided at that visit that Permaseal would be hired to do the job. Permaseal told me that the job would be started in three weeks and that it would only take a day to complete it. On the date scheduled, a crew of workers arrived and worked dilligently until the entire job was complete. An onsite supervisor told me that due to several cracks in the brick wall, he recommended that a protective membrane be installed to guarantee no water leaks. They arranged for a state inspector to view the job before they sealed the floor. The inspector talked to me and assured me that they had done a great job. This made me feel more at ease. It was a very stormy and nasty day yet the workers continued to work hard until completion. After the work was done they cleaned the basement floor and the outside driveway the best they could. There has been no sign of water leaking in the 4 months that have past.

Perma Seal came out to my home and provided a list of ways to fix the problem and improve my sump pump system. The salesman was honest about where to spend money and where to save a few bucks. They arrived on time and completed the job in a few hours. My only criticism is that the workers who did the installation did not go over the work they did after the job was complete and provided no instruction on how the new sump pump system functions. That said, Perma Seal corporate did follow up to ask how it went and indicated that they provide a free inspection one year out and indicated that they have a free help line for customers. All that said, i do think better communication b/w the installation team and customer would be helpful. Of note, my handy man happened to be out at my house after the install and indicated that the work was "top quality" and utilized very good parts in their work. I would recommend Perma Seal again and was happy with the overall experience.
Description of Work: Perma Seal patched a crack in my basement wall, installed a window well drain (which now leads to my sump pit), and replaced my sump pump and back up system.

The sales representative arrived at the exact pre-agreed time. HIs inspection and explanation of the work and related cost were excellent and he was very pleasant and informative. The work was performed professionally ....exactly as explained by the sales rep. There have been no related problems with the repairs ..... and it sure is nice not having to shop-vac buckets of water after each downpour. Highly recommended.

Lost my family room wood floor and bedroom carpet to the July storms. Brought in Perma-Seal to assess the problem and they found two foundation cracks. I was also considering upgrading my sump pump and battery back-up. Mike came over and really did a thorough inspection inside and outside the house. Quickly identified where the seepage came in and recommended the fix. He was very knowledgeable about my sump pump options and we decided the triple safe would alleviate any future issues of my system not keeping up with these types of storms. Mike costed the job and set up installation date right there at my kitchen table. Due to the high volume of storm-related customers the work was scheduled 4 weeks out, but that was not an issue. Perma-Seal office staff called in advance to confirm the installation date and time an the crew showed up pretty much in the middle of the 2 hour window. The crew members were professional, knowledeable and really very nice. They got right to work and were done in around three hours. I was really pleasantly surprised on the lack of dust during the sump excavation and wall preparation. They really made an effort to keep down the dust and kept the work areas as clean as possible. They tested everything, explained the new sump system and left the work areas spotless. I could not be happier with the installation process. Several days later a representative from Perma-Seal called to follow-up on the work and ask if I had any questions or problems. Perma-Seal is class operation from start to finish and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

When the crew showed up the stated that the sump pit was to big to get in the house. The crew checked with their office and were told to cut the sump pit in half and retape it together in the basement The crew did not have equipment to dewater the hole foe excavation - had to use my equipment The new sump pit did not fit in the newly excavated hole The pumps were initially set to low in the pits - information not passed from supervisor to crew Initial salesman quit the company Lack of detail on contract - first one by e-mail, second one without enough information for crew onsite (pit size, pit depth and pumps level) Poor scheduling Poor ordering of parts Poor followup on details. UPDATE After I posted this report I received a call from John Tomaskovic (client relations Manager for PermaSeal). John was concerned that I was not satisfied with the work performed and asked for details regarding the service and work performed. I explained to John everything I had posted and John asked if it waould be OK to sent out a Production Manager to look at the work. The production Manager looked over the job site, took pictures and asked for my input as to what we thought needed to be done to make this job satisfactory. Long story short, the first crew did work, but not much better than the first. Again John asked for my input an the quaility of work and I said I was not satisfied, but did not expect anything more from PermSeal. John asked if they could try again. I said it was OK to try again, but again I was not expecting anything more from PermSeal. John set up the appointment and again asked if there anything he could do to help. The Foreman arrived on time to do the work, was prepared and very professional (Tony). Tony understood what neede to be done and performed an excellant job in his work and cleanup. One more appointment was necessary to complete the job. John again called to ask how the job went and I relayed my satisfaction of Tony's work. John said he would set up the final appointment and he would ensure Tony would be the foremen perfoming the work. I agreed. Tony performed the last phase of the work on Monday and I am satisfied with the work and very satisfied with the concern John took in the matter and the overall experince with Tony. I believe if John and Tony were the first and only people we had worked with at PermaSeal I would have given at least a "B" grade to the work.
Description of Work: we started discussing the project with PermaSeal in late May of 2011. We agreed in concept to the plan and asked for an estimate th efirst week of June. We received an "estimate" by e- mail 2 weeks later. The estimate had no details of the work or how it was to be done. Iasked for the details and received no reply from PermaSeal until another 2 weeks passed and another salesman called stating the first salesman had left the company. The second salesman had no deTails of what we had discussed with the first salesman so we started from scratch. The second salesman asked questions, took measurements and pictures so we were somewhat confident we were back on the right track. After some further clarification we agreed to have PermaSeal perform the work and signed the contract and put down the required deposit. A date was set for August 23rd. The details of the work were to increase the size of our current sump pit from 19 inch pit to a larger 36 inch pit and provide new pumps and the associated piping tie in. As we were having the plumbing work done we were having PermaSeal raise our outside sump pumps to a higher level. All this work was within the scope of the contract. On August 22nd I called the salesman to ensure we were still on schedule. I was told that if it was scheduled by him, it would start on time. The evening of the 22nd we had a computer call from PermaSeal saying they were scheduled to be at our home the next day and to make sure we would pay the foreman upon completion of the work. The next day instead of workers arriving to the site, we received a phone call from PermaSeal stating that the new sump pit was not at their shop and the work would have to rescheduled. I called the salesman who said the sump pit did not get ordered and had to be repressed. I asked if they could do the outside work and he said he would check. They agreed to send out a crew to perform the outside work and the 2 man crew arrived about 10:30 that morning. At 11:30 the rain started and the crew left. Scope of work that day was to cut some sod for the new drainage line. So after 13 weeks in dealing with PermaSeal, signing a contract, giving them a deposit and scheduling a date to do the work we had some sod cut in our yard! After discussing the situation with both the salesman and his boss we agreed to a new date of September 7th. 3 and 1/2 months after we started this process and 2 weeks after the original install date. On September 6th we again received a computer call from PermaSeal stating they would be onsite between 10:00 am and noon e following day and be sure we were ready to pay the foreman in full at the completion of the work. At 12:10 the next day I called the salesman supervisor to inquire if the crew was going to show up as their window for arrival had passed. He said he would get back to me, which he did and said they were running late. The crew showed up an hour later. The first item of concern from the foreman was that the bigger sump would not fit through any of the house doors or basement windows so he probably could not do that portion of the job. I had him call his boss and I called the salesman supervisor to see what was going to be done and what was there plan to fix this situation. The supervisors agreed that the sump could be cut in half and taped together in the basement before installation. Now a second crew showed up to help and a supervisor arrived to oversee the work. The excavation of the basement floor started by about 3pm and was quickly determined that my sump pumps and my temporary hoes would be needed to keep the new hole as free of water as possible while the workers were digging. Even with the temporary pumps, they were not able to excavate the hole deep enough to place the new sump pit to the full depth. The pump pit that was to be flush with the basement floor now sits up 3 inches above the floor. Before the supervisor left the job site I reminded him that we wanted the pumps set at a level that they would not turn on at this water level, but would be set to a depth just above the current water level. The supervisor said that is what he thought the plan was and he would ensure that would be the case. The supervisor left about 6 pm. At 8:30 pm the workers were finishing the work and were ready to plug in the sump pumps. 2 of the 4 pumps started. The workers were ready to call the job complete. I told the foreman on the job that the pump were not set at the correct level. He was not happy, though he was professional and had his crew reset the level of the pumps. The work was complete at 9:30 pm and we (Please read update on next page)

I had Kevin come out last August to diagnose the problem of seepage in my basement. At the time, we had other home repairs to do, so we decided to see if it happened again. This spring we had the same problems. I called Kevin to again come out and explain what needed to be done. He spent a lot of time going over how the process works, all the different solutions, etc. He found out I was interested in a battery back up sump. He explained all the different models and the benefits to each. He told me to get other estimates from plumbing companies to compare prices. Permaseal's were by far the best value for the same price. It took a few weeks to schedule the work. Since we now live out of town, I had my father meet the crew over there. He said they were very efficient. It actually cost less than the estimate, because they did not need to dig all the way down. A pleasant surprise!
Description of Work: Permaseal dug out around the foundation next to my home to repair a crack in the foundation that was causing seepage to my basement. I also had them install a battery back-up sump pump.

After one of our major rainstorms this year, we had water leaking not from but around the discharge pipe for our septic system. Also because of the amount of rain one of the downspouts had been overflowing and could have eventually effected the foundation. These repairs have been performed and everything is in order. We received a quote and the work was done on time as promised and at the agreed on cost. GOOD JOB, THANS PERMA-SEAL.

They did a great job. I was concernd about my garage floor and driveway because they were new. The crew made sure that everything was covered and protected before beginning the job. They completed the work in one day. Before they left, the crew chief made sure to answer any questions that we had. The drain line was run 38 feet out from the house as was requested. When they left, you could not tell that the ground was even disturbed.

From the very start, we were quite impressed by punctuality and professionalism. We received appointment reminders by e-mail 1-2 days before, and 1-2 reminder phone calls the day before. Also, prior to the appointment, we received a confirmation by regular mail along with a salesperson's name, contact info, picture, and a colorful brochure describing and explaining in easy language the common basement water problems and solutions. On the day of the appointment, we received a "30-minute notification" phone call that a salesperson was en route. The salesperson was very courteous and professional, and he honestly explained in details what our repair options were. The crack in our foundation was in difficult spot to access, and together, as we talked through it, we were able to come up with a most effective and least disruptive method to get at it to seal it (from garage). We also performed a water hose test together, to find a source of seepage by our fireplace. We then took several days to think about the proposal, and then we had a 2nd appointment to finalize the details. Again, the same punctuality and professionalism, with multiple reminders, as the first time. We signed the contract and paid the deposit. There was absolutely no sales pressure, and no hype during either appointment. The day before the project was scheduled to begin, again, we got reminders by phone confirming the time of the crew's arrival. The crew showed up on time, as promised, and performed effectively, efficiently, and professionally. The foreman was very approachable, polite, friendly, and easy to talk to. We had some additional last-minute requests for the foreman, that were not included in the original contract (additional spill-over areas in the foundation to dig out and seal), and they readily accommodated, provided an additional estimate, and completed the entire project on-time, over 2 consecutive days, as promised. Some of the line items on the original contract were not performed (we looked for, but did not find some of the cracks in the foundation that I was certain were there......my fault), and the central office readily credited back the $$$ for those line items that were not done. Since the project was completed, there were several heavy-rain events, which caused minor-to-moderate (but not severe) street and yard flooding, and our basement has stayed dry. The exterior drain tile system appears to work exactly as it is supposed to. We are quite satisfied and pleased with our overall experience with Perma Seal and the job they performed...so far. With that said, we will defer our final judgement until an opportunity to truly test Perma Seal work comes up. We want to see what happens during a very heavy rain event which causes severe flooding of our street and front and back-yards - a rain event like July 23, 2011, or Sep 13, 2008. Will our basement remain dry then? We shall wait and see.
Description of Work: Sealing a foundation crack, which required breaking up a portion of garage floor and digging down. Installation of exterior drain tiles and waterproof membrane near and around the chimney, which required digging out the foundation along one wall of the house. Sealing many "spill-over" areas in the foundation, which required some shallow digging, and, in one spot, breaking up a small portion of a sidewalk.

From start to finish we were thoroughly impressed and pleased with the staff, service and quality of the work. Anxious to get to the bottom of our water problem, but not wanting to "break the bank", we first joined Angie's list. The search for a provider led us to Perma-Seal based on the reviews of previous customers. When we mentioned Perma-Seal to neighbors and friends they all agreed that we'd made the right choice. We were not disappointed. When we mentioned our busy schedules and desire to do the work quickly, the consultant called into the company and got us scheduled almost immediately even though they had close to a 3-week wait list due to so much rain lately. But they were here within 48 hours. The person (1 person) was in and out within an hour and we had 2 new and functioning pumps. The basement is dry. Then one week later 2 staff came out to measure and put in the new well covers. They actually worked in the rain! We had many questions and learned more than we'd expected about mold, plumbing, electrical outlets, AC/Heating, filters, etc. Everyone who worked in our home was respectful, professional, patient and friendly. Perma Seal will remain our provider for any services they provide for as long as we own our home. And Angie's List is my new "find".

Both of the cracks have definitely been sealed. I haven't seen a drop. They did come back to make an adjustment to the window well drain after some dampness was noticed around the pipe, but it has been dry since then even with the heavy rains.
Description of Work: Installed a drain in a window well, ran PVC pipe from this drain to our sump pump pit. Sealed one diagonal crack that is about 7 ft long, sealed one vertical crack that is about 4 ft long. Not sure about the longer crack but the shorter one definitely went all the way through to the outside of the house. Both cracks were filled and sealed from the inside, excavation was not necessary.

In July of 2010 we were one of many in our neighborhood that got water in the basement after a severe storm wherein 7" of rain fell in just a few hours. Our basement, while dated, was finished and carpeted and all but a few items were lost. We had experienced seepage in the past but never to this degree. After a long and tiring cleanup we were faced with making the decision of redoing the basement and taking a chance on ever getting that kind of flood again or looking into basement waterproofing before the remodel. Our home is over 90 years old and considering that weather conditions seem to be getting more intense these days we chose to get some facts and figures on different waterproofing companies. When Jeff Kowalik of Perma Seal came to our home, we were very pleased with his professionalism and knowledge of his company and the products and services they provide. He showed us samples of the products they would use, explained in detail how the work would be done and how the products would help in preventing water from seeping into the basement. He went over details of the pumps, the warranties, the cost, etc. and then examined the areas in our basement that concerned us and made his recommendations. We read reports on Angies List and had heard from various people that Perma Seal had a good system, used good products, stood by their work and was worth the investment. We called Jeff to set up an install . The crew came on the designated date at the designated time and were friendly, professional and there was no doubt they knew exactly what they were doing. Because they needed to break up the basement concrete in several areas, I anticipated a huge mess after the work was done but their Installation was so efficient and smooth and everything was cleaned up before they left . After re-pouring the concrete the areas they worked on looked great!!! We had this work done in May, 2011. I am writing this in July of 2011 and in these 2 short months we have had 2 severe storms and not any water seepage in our newly remodeled basement! We are very pleased with the experience we had with the Perma Seal people and would highly recommend them to anyone in the need of waterproofing.
Description of Work: Resin injection of honeycomb section of basement wall, breaking the concrete in various areas of the basement to install PVC drain tile, install 2 pumps with battery backups and re-pour concrete

As mentioned above, the crew was prompt, courteous, careful and competent. The job is done and looks good. Of course, we have to "test" the results via a heavy rainfall but we expect to be happy with our new dry basement.
Description of Work: Removed concrete from perimeter of building. Laid drain tile, layered with gravel and then replaced concrete to create a system to keep our basement dry. Removed all materials extracted from the basement, cleaned up after themselves and advised us on best way to prepare for the work. Arrived on time, stayed until the work was done, performed in a professional and responsive manner.

Permaseal came out to fix a crack along one side of the basement wall. They arrived on time (both when providing the estimate & coming out to do the work) & went right to work. Explained the steps & what needed to be done. They were very professional & efficient. Left no mess behind & did a great job. We have used them in the past & would use them again. Update - A small portion of the prior crack continued to leak after perma-seal initially came out to seal the crack. They have since come back out, free of charge - as their work is guaranteed for the life of the home & resealed the crack. No leaks since! Even through the torrential downpours we've had recently.
Description of Work: Waterproof basement - fill crack along one side of the wall.
