Called this morning to have a crack in my finished basement repaired that leaks during heavy rain. I was told the first available appointment is June 25th, which is over a month away. She offered to put me on "standby". No thanks, I can't just sit around for a month and hope that it doesn't rain. They need to hire more people! Ridiculous.

Thank you for your review. Our team has been working diligently as we continue to do our very best to service everyone in need. We offer “standby” as an opportunity should an earlier date become available for us to visit our client’s home. We are sympathetic for the situation this client has and we regret that we were not available within their desired time frame.

As stated above, the overall experience was excellent. They worked very hard after they came later than planned due to a big job before me that needed more time. I felt that they could have been lazy, tired or not motivated to fix my house, but they were not. They worked very hard and took care of everything they were expected to do. Again, very satisfied.
Description of Work: There was a crack in the foundation where our original house and a room addition met. The air conditioners were in front of this area on the outside, and the furnace was in front of the leaking area on the inside. We had to move one or the other. Perma-Seal was able to give me a quote and information on fixing this from the outside or the inside, whichever was better for me. We decided to go from the outside (too much involved in moving the entire furnace) so we moved the air conditioners. It was more expensive to do the work from the outside with Perm-Seal but less expensive for the heating people to move the entire furnace. They did a wonderful job. There was a very large and heavy concrete block which the air conditioner units sat on and the workmen had to move this. It took them almost an hour to remove this block and it was not an easy job. They did it without complaining, they cut them and moved them so they could then do there work. Once that was done, they were finished in about an hour. Cleaned up nicely and were on there way. I was very satisfied with the work, and I'm sure that the next big rain will test the sealing. I'm confident that it will be ok, since they had done some other work on my house for other cracks and I did not have any water from the last heavy rain, when I did have water from the crack they fixed after the rainfall. Very Satisfied.

We used to have water coming in the basement from everywhere including a guiser in the middle of the basement floor. We worked with Frank Palladino and he was great. Very down to earth, no pressure, and very knowledgeable. He made us aware of special offers and we never felt pressured to buy anything. Don't get me wrong, we bought a lot but we don't regret any of it. First, they patched all the cracks, then dug the drain tile. We bought a battery backup and my husband talked to Frank about a problem we had with water coming under the basement door from the outside. A grate that drains into the drain tile was installed, brilliant! They also dug a trench and extended the sump into the yard with a bubbler in the lawn. Little did we know that we'd need all those things. We were bone dry with the drain tile and pump system working fine for a couple of years until this last flood. BUT it was not the system that failed, it was the creek. We were holding our own with trickles coming in under the door while our neighbors had feet of water. The grate caught the water as it came in. The pump was working overtime and the backup even had to kick in. No water was coming from the foundation anywhere. I call that successful. (Eventually the creek came down our back steps and pushed it's way through the door, but that's another matter) I called Frank soon after to have someone come look at the battery backup as it got flooded as well and he was very concerned about the flooding and wanted to make sure the system didn't fail us. He is coming out this week again to discuss a back-flow valve. I highly recommend Permaseal and Frank Palladino.

We used Perma Seal before for our Drain Tile System in our basement back in 2010, so we decided to call them and some other plumbers to get an estimate on the stop valve system. From the start they called us promptly, came out and gave the estimate, they are the ones that actually told us about a coupon on Angies List for members. The experience was good, they explained what we needed prior, called to schedule the work, kept the date and time, called the day before showing up and also the morning of. They completed the work in the 2 day time frame that they explained. It has worked thus far and we have had 3 bad rains since the time of install.

Everything went great. They were on time for the initial proposal. Explained everything that they would do. Even told me about a 10% off cupon if I joined angie list. They showed on the date they promised and completed the work in a reasonable time. They cleaned up after before they left and explained when I could work around the patched areas again. This is my second time using them. I had a crack in my previous house and they did a great job both times.
Description of Work: They came out and examined the three cracks that I found in the foundation walls of my basement. They turned on a garden hose to prove that the cracks were leaking. They fixed the 3 cracks from the inside. They had to dig on the outside to patch around the I-beam where it was also leaking.

read above AND i have no d*** idea what year my parents house was built so Angie's list need a I don;t know option
Description of Work: YES my parents are now forced to use them again so they can right their wrong. SOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED I'm writing on behalf of my senior citizen parents, both in their 80's, who hired Perma-Seal. They had extensive water leakage in a basement tool/work room. Mike (?) came out on 4.1.13 and discovered 3 cracks/leaks and estimated the repairs just over $700. The technicians came out on 4.9.13 and said there is only have one crack not 3 that need to be fixed. OH and since you were given a multiple crack discount and now only have 1 there will be no discount and the charge for 1 crack is $500 or maybe it was just under. I felt this was a rip off off but whatever. Well it's 4.11.13 and they have a basement room filled with water. So my disappointed/disgusted 82 year old Mom called to report this. Disappointment now rises.................she is told someone could come back on 4.30.13 REALLY WEEKS FROM NOW? and would be charged $89. REALLY? How about we begin with a second FREE estimate??? What a crock. The first guy wrote a wrong work order, missed the now leaking crack and the technicians verified one crack so everyone was wrong because as far as my did I mention she's 82, Mom could tell the water is coming from right below what was sealed. This didn't happen to me but for it to happen to my parents is infuriating me even more. What I would want for my Parents is that Perma-Seal squeeze them in at NO additional cost to see the cracks as the water fills their home. If the job was miss quoted with a dry space the running water should provide a higher degree of accuracy on the next quote.

We are saddened to hear that this client was disappointed with our service. When our technicians visited the home we repaired one crack, since the other two cracks were located in an area that does not retain water. After our work was completed, we did receive a call to return to the client’s home stating they were experiencing water in that area. We set up our next available appointment for a service call to visit client’s home. In the meantime, on April 12, 2013, our consultant returned to the home for another free estimate to view where the water was coming in from. At this time our consultant determined the client has cove seepage and advised the client of the necessary repair. The client chose not to do the work at this time. Thank you for your review.

I think the pricing was fair because we had gotten a few different prices and they all seemed to be pretty much in the same ballpark. The salesman and workers who came out were very polite. I have to admit, I was a little upset when the leak sprung again. I wasn't very pleased with that, and then, when they came out and repaired it, he seemed kind of surprised that they had just done the job. It didn't seem like there was a lot of communication going on between maybe the office and the actual laborers.
Description of Work: I used Perma-Seal Basement Systems for foundation water-proofing. Shortly afterwards we had the same leak again, so they came back out and I do believe it's fixed this time.

Mike from Perma-Seal came out and provided a full inspection of our basement's foundation. He was very professional and detailed. He said since our basement was finished he recommended removing sections of the drywall in order to see what was going on with the foundation in the main area where we were getting water. Only then did he feel comfortable providing an estimate which was understandable. He did not recommend an exterior remediation. He did provide an estimate for a section of less concern where there was a hairline crack in the foundation. The estimate he provided to correct this was in-line with other companies. In addition to the inspection, Mike provided other material on how to manage water seepage in basements.
Description of Work: We were getting water seepage in a few areas of the basement of our 1931 Chicago Bungalow. We needed a recommendaton on how to repair the foundation where we were getting water in during heavy rains. Since we were thinking about replacing the stairs outside where most of the leaking was occuring, we were open for an exterior remedy since our basement was finished.

When the representative arrived at my home, he was very friendly and quite professional. He quickly diagnosed the problem as being a crack in the foundation near the basement window. He assured us that there was a 95% chance this was really the only problem and that it would not be very expensive to repair. He quoted a price of around $400 and set up a time for the repair man to come out and repair the cracks. Everything happened as described and we were very happy to see there were no more basement leaks after a heavy rain. I would not hesitate to use this company again and I am very grateful to the representative for saving us money.

I contacted Permseal in an effort to determine the source of water in my basement, glass block installation, and replacement of my sump pumps. Dan McGowan came out, on time, and went over the entire basement. He was able to show me the source of the water in the basement (not foundation related), and provide estimates for work on the glass blocks and the sump pumps. I have two sump pumps - one sump pit and a "grey water" pit - both with pumps. Dan was able to advise me that the odor in my basement was due to the lack of seals on these pits, and included the pit seals in the estimate. He also noticed that the sewer pipe had leaked at some point, but would benefit from re-packing. I decided to complete this project first. I called to schedule my installation and spoke with Rosie in the call center. She was awesome, friendly, and very helpful. Scheduling was a breeze! On the day of the installation, I was contacted by the crew and advised that they would be there in approximately 30 minutes, which was within their provided 2 hour time frame. The workers arrived, put booties on their feet to prevent water/mud from getting in the house and got to work. The guys were friendly enough, and demonstrated that the pumps were functioning correctly. Overall this was a great experience. I highly recommend Perma-Seal and their staff. I won't hesitate to use them in the future for the glass block installation.

We called Perma-Seal because our sump pump was running nonstop. They were able to come out the next day and informed us that the floater had malfunctioned and we needed a new sump pump. I talked with them about options and then they got to work immediately. What was great is that they had sump pumps in their truck so I did not have to wait for them to come back at a later time! I decided to purchase a back-up pump in addition to replacing the main sump pump. Of course this increased my cost, but I think it will be worth it in the long run to have a back-up pump. They were efficient with the installation and professional.

First let me share a bit of my background. I own a company that works on foreclosed and bank owned homes through the Chicagoland area, we service approx 4,000 homes annually with about 18,000 total work orders, I?ve been doing this about 10 years and I consider myself to have a strong construction background. We complete everything from HVAC installs, roof replacements, and complete remodels. I Recently purchased an investment property that was in less than great shape with the intention of repairing it to livable condition. The basement had water in it and the kitchen floor looked to be sagging a bit so I figured I would get some professionals to assess the situation for me, and provide me with a repair solution. I had always heard through my sub contractors and colleagues a bad rap about Permaseal in regards to prices but I figured I would give them a call as well as 4 other companies and a structural engineer and get their opinion on my crawlspace. Dan from Permaseal returned my call very quickly and came out I think the next day or day after to provide me with my estimate. My first impression of Dan was a good one he seemed knowledgeable and "On top of his game" in regards to what my problems were. Once we got down into the crawlspace he confirmed the issues that I already knew that I had such as the need for a drain time, encapsulation and supporting the first floor. He also did some measurements and told me that my foundation was sinking quite severely, and I would need an extremely expensive "push pier" system to correct the problem. He also said that I would need to install an air purifier system, and install a new more effective sump pump than my 1/2 hp model. After about 10 minutes in the crawlspace, my "situation" was becoming comical to him and with a chuckle and a shake of his head he pulled out his cell phone to take a photo of per his words "One of the worst sinking foundations he?s seen and he just had to take a picture of it". We then went up stairs and he gave me a rough estimate of the work to be done. We were in the ballpark of around $42k-48k depending on what type of poly I wanted for encapsulation, type of sump pump, number of support piers, etc. After the estimate I felt like I was just visited by a tax collector. I think Dan was able to find a need in my house for every single product that Permaseal sells. I later find out that the salesmen work on a commissionable basis, which explained it. After Permaseals quote I had 4 other companies come out the my house as well as a structural engineer, all of them told me that I had no issues with the foundation sinking. I explained to all of these individuals Permaseals? quote and they all unanimously agreed that many of these estimated items were not only unnecessary but overpriced. Long story short I had the work that I needed done for about $5,0000.00. I?m not trying to Bash Permaseal in this review, but I can say personally that the past opinions I had heard of this company I found to be accurate. Bottom line, any foundation repair can be extremely expensive and can be approached in many different ways. From this experience if I were to approach a foundation repair in the future I would first hire a reputable structural engineer to evaluate the problem and determine how to solve it. Then I would have several 3 or more companies bid to perform the work that the structural engineer recommended. That way these companies are comparing apples to apples in their quotes and are truly competing for your business to ensure you get the best buy.
Description of Work: -Estimate for crawlspace encapsulation (My request) -Estimate for drain tile install (My request) -Estimate to dig and re set sump pit and crock down an additional 1 1/2 feet(My request) -Estimate to repair 4 foundation wall cracks with epoxy (My Request) -Estimate to install support beam and weight bearing columns (My request) -Install 9 push piers to correct severe foundation sinking/sagging issue(Permaseals Estimate ) -Install air purification system (Permaseals Estimate) -Replace sump pump with Zoeller pump and battery backup (Permaseals Estimate) permaseals quote for work approx $44,000.00

We are the original owners or our home that was built in 1974. Our sump pump well was bone dry.and we had experienced this same problem about 10 years ago so we had an idea of what the issue was. After calling Perma-Seal a representative visited to inspect the premises, discuss the problem and repair options, and make recommendations with respective cost estimates. He also discussed our experiences with leakage in the basement, sump pump operation, and any historical information on drainage that would help in making a recommendation on how to proceed.. The rep described what would be done, how long it would take, and assured us that the crew would do their best to clean the basement and our yard clean. This was important to us since the job required using jack-hammers to break up almost 200 feet of concrete around the perimeter of our basement and it is extremely difficult to contain concrete dust. They also had to haul away the broken concrete up the basement stairs, install the drainage pipe, pack it with stone and top it off with a concrete finish. The worst part of the project was that we had to move everything from along the walls so the drainage pipe could be installed. We also replaced our sump pump and installed a battery backup for peace of mind. The installation of drainage pipe took 2 full days and the sump pump installation took a few hours. We were able to use our existing well. All appointments were kept as scheduled with the representative and the installation crews. They arrived as scheduled and the work was completed as scheduled. We were pleased at the time the work was done and we have had no problems with water in the basement and the sump pump operation has never been so quiet. We would recommend Perma-Seal without reservation based on our experience. The life-time guarantee on the work was a plus. If we had used Perma-Seal 10 years ago we would not have paid twice to fix our problem.
